3-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
Although there are blatant references to "Lolita" (dig Alicia Silverstone in her huge sunglasses and swimsuit gazing up at Cary Elwes), "The Crush" is a suitable thriller despite being very predictable.

The premise is simple: Silverstone plays a fourteen year old who develops a crush on Elwes, who is a 28 year old newspaper reporter and has just moved into an apartment on the grounds of her family home. Elwes is dating Jennifer Rubin, and she's aware of the vibes being sent by Silverstone. But Elwes is either naive or enjoys the attention (you decide!!!) and puts himself into several compromising situations with Silverstone. Silverstone, who's clearly unstable, tightens the noose from then on, and eventually attempts to kill Elwes. The ending, also predictable, is appropriate.

This certainly isn't going to be on anyone's list of all-time best films, but it's worth owning on DVD (despite the fact that there's little that separates the VHS from the DVD). You'll enjoy popping it in every once in a while for a good scare. If nothing else, guys, you'll be very careful who you flirt with after watching this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Scream Queen Of The 90's!
Similar to the role Glenn Close played in "Fatal Attraction", Alicia Silverstone is terrifying as an obsessive teen who is "crazy" about the 28 year old living in her parent's guest house. After being told several times that she's too young for him, and finding out that he already has a girlfriend, she goes on a methodical rampage against the two. Tearing both of their lives apart. Tension builds throughout the film with various scary parts and an exciting, violent ending. Way better than "Swimfan".

4-0 out of 5 stars The Crush... True story
The movie is not only fun but a must see.. and the movie is now in my all time collection! well, I watched the movie years back but I had to recall the story of the movie and watch it again and again, as I am facing almost the same situation.. well I'm 25 and she is 15 and she has a crush on me 'no fun, trust me' and her mother (not father, like in the movie) is almost as same as Darian's father.. I've watched the movie thrice in last two days to understand few things about her moves.. I think you'd enjoy to understand the movie like i do (now) :)its fun and entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Crush
Great Fun! If I hadn't seen it on t.v., I never would have seen it anywhere else. I saw it while flipping through channels and was late to a meeting because I couldn't stop watching it, I had to see what was going to happen in the end.

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch Out!
Darian Forrester (Silverstone) is a 14 year-old Girl rapidly blossoming into a woman at a immense rate. Her IQ is above average and her eye for detail flawless. After earning himself a job working for a decidedly well thought-of magazine, Journalist Nick Eliot (Elwes) scans the neighbouring houses with a room to let. Shaken-up after practically knocking down Darian after she skated into the wheels of his arriving car, he notices that her residence has a guest house to let and after viewing the named house, snaps it up with no more then a few Ums and Errs. After a few days, Darian is smitten with the new lodger and things begin to lead themselves down the wrong path. After a kiss initiated by Darian, Nick backs off, and dismayed by his actions, warns off Darian. Skimpily clad in diminutive bikini's, provocative clothing and breath-taking body language, Darian refuses to take no for an answer and subsequent to attacking his lover, persists to abuse her welcome, with the police having to stand in within the concluding half hour.

Suffocating and thought-provoking, this a tall-tale that mirrors many a headline currently splashed on newspapers worldwide. Shapiro's direction is at times warped and the pacing does have its flaws, but yet it seems to work out and leaves you fulfilled with the end product. By far Silverstone's Best role yet, with only 'Clueless' to contend with, while Elwes's appeal is strong, and sporadically exasperating, is every now and then overruled by his 14 year-old counterpart.

A great movie with bright sets and a proficient script, this is in no way Cinema at its best, but yet a worthy edition to your home library. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A DISNEY CLASSIC COMES TO DVD!
One of the truly great Christmas films at long last comes to DVD. Ed Asner, Fred Gwynne, Rene Auberjenois, and writer/director Alan Shapiro and his talented crew make this Dickens-esque family perennial a must-see. Do yourself a favor and get a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Made-For-Tv Disney Movie!
This wonderful Christmas film debuted in 1986, and stars Ed Asner as a mean crook named Horace McNickle who escapes from jail- his partner in crime got off, and he wants revenge. When he escapes, he meets some kids who live in an apartment building who are faced with a grim Christmas. Their parents are struggling financially, and may be evicted if they can't make the rent. The landlord is Rene Auberjonois (Odo from Deep Space Nine), and has a son who is the "bully" played by Zachary Ansley (The Journey of Natty Gan). Asner is following the clues left to him leading to a fortune, and he enlists the children (who have no idea that he is an escape convict- they even think he's Santa!) to help him find it. There is a great scene where Ed is on a train and has a supernatural experience, very Scrooge-like, which changes his life forever.

As the movie progresses, the mean are transformed and all begin to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. I remember watching this on the Wonderful World of Disney which at the time was hosted by Michael Eisner (the current President of Disney). I am delightfully surprised and glad that Disney is releasing this great film on dvd. If you want to see Ed Asner in a role like never before, get this movie in time for the next holiday season. You won't regret it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not much like the Tv show, but still a great movie
I know that "Flipper" is only averaging 3 stars because a lot of poople don't like it much because it's not anything like the Tv show. I grew up watching Flipper the Tv show and it was always one of my favorites, but I still have to say that this movie is a good movie even if it's not all that much inspired by the Tv show. The main theme between the Tv show and the movie are basically the same, both are mainly about the story of a boy befriended by a dolphin named Flipper. However, there are a few differences. In this movie, there's not a Bud character, there's only Sandy, unlike the show. Also, Flipper won't be saving anything or anybody in this movie.

In "Flipper" the movie, Sandy (Elijah Wood) has to stay a summer with his uncle, Porter (Paul Hogan), although he doesn't want to and he doesn't even know his uncle. Sandy doesn't exactly get along with his uncle that lives mainly off of Spaghetti O's at first. If it wasn't for Sandy befriending Flipper, there's no telling what would've happened. Flipper befriends Sandy, which leads to Sandy making more friends including Kim (Jessica Wesson), Sandy getting along better with his uncle, and even some adventures and misadventures along the way.

Even though "Flipper" isn't much like the old Tv classic, I still thought that this was a great movie. It has its drama throughout and it even has a few adventurous parts such as an encounter with a hammerhead shark and busting some criminals. It also has good underwater photography and pretty good acting. I recommend anybody who used to watch Flipper the Tv show or anyone who likes dolphins or just likes good movies to get "Flipper."

5-0 out of 5 stars Flipper is 'flippin' fun!
Imagine spending an entire summer with your 'lowlife deadbeat, loser, hippie dropout' uncle. Unfortunately for Sandy, this is exactly his impending vacation.
Sent to the Florida Keys from Chicago, Sandy (Elijah Wood) is expected to 'blow Chili Peppers laminates' back home for a bleak stay with his salty Uncle Porter (Paul Hogan).
But just at the zenith of holiday horror, Sandy befriends a feisty, orphaned dolphin, Flipper, accompanied by a local girl, Kim, commencing what is to become a 'total blast' of an action-packed vacation of his life.
'Flipper' is the story of friendship and high-tide sea adventure driven by an exciting and emotion-charged story. A Universal release directed by Alan Shapiro with brilliant underwater photography, 'Flipper' is a must-see movie. "You're going to flip over Flipper" (American Movie Classics) and "Splash out on a copy of Flipper - great for old and young alike" (New Weekly).
Recommended for the young and the young-at-heart, and being one of my all-time favourites, 'Flipper' is as 'flippin' fun as it is heartwarming.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and not for kids
The name of the movie is misleading. Very little is about flipper. It's about a boy, an older man and their problems. Not much of their behaviour that I would call good guidance for children. Even worse, the movies' first scences have dolphins shown as they are being shot by sports fishermen. I don't see how that can be entertaining to kids.
Sorry, but this one shouldn't be allowed to have the name "Flipper" on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Flick
I originally bought this movie for my 9-year-old daughter who is a huge fan of both dolphins and Elijah Wood. I didn't expect, however, that the entire family would enjoy it as much as we did! The story was interesting, suspensful and heart-warming. The acting was good -- not cheesy at all (as was another reviewer's opinion). The only complaint I had was the occasional (and unecessary) profanity ... which from what I could tell would be the only reason for it's PG rating. Otherwise this a great movie for the entire family and I would highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Anoying Aussie + A Dolphin + A Cute American = Cheesy
This one is for fans only. Fans of Paul Hogan (he stays the same wya he ALWAYS is...), Animals (or just Dolphins), Elijah Wood or Happy Movies will all love this! (But few others).
The Story of a Boy, Sandy (Wood), with a sad life. After being forced to spend the summer with his Uncle Porter Ricks (Hogan) - getting paid $100 a week "just for the summer" - He finds a dolphin and saves it life. They become good friends and after finding out the water is being polluted, he has to save the day and his friend!

If you hate cheesy movies, you'll hate this one. But For Fans of Elijah Wood: He is alful hot in this flick and he takes his shirt off (i love the bit where Flipper whacks him in the butt and he falls in the water and his shirt comes off), and also he's so cute with the wet look! :D
Fans of the Annoying Crocodile Dundee (I'm begging you to belive me.....not all Aussies are like that!) will like that he stays the same way he always does. Haters of him will hate that fact. he is discusting.
Although cheesy at times, it's a nice happy theamed movie which will keep the kids quite!
