Best known today as the series that helped launch Johnny Depp to stardom, Stephen J. Cannell's 21 Jump Street was also one of the first hit programs for the fledgling Fox network, a status that lasted for most of its five-year run (1987-91), thanks to its engaging mix of youth culture and police drama. As outlined in the pilot, Depp's baby-faced Ofc. Tom Hanson is transferred to the special Jump Street division, a unit that utilized young cops to infiltrate juvenile crime. Unlike many of Fox's youth-oriented shows of the period (i.e., Beverly Hills 90210), Jump Street took its stories seriously, and addressed numerous social issues in its episodes; though some of the fashions and slang seem dated, the program remains entertaining decades later. The Jump Street set compiles all 13 episodes of the debut season, including the two-part pilot; the solid extras feature commentary by co-star Peter DeLuise, as well as interviews with fellow Jump Street officers Dustin Nguyen, Holly Robinson Peete, and Steven Williams (whose Captain Fuller replaced Frederic Forrest's Jenko halfway through the first season), as well as the prolific Cannell. --Paul Gaita ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 21 Jumpstreet Where Are You?
I watched the first 4 seasons of Jumpstreet and it was good. This was the first show on the Fox network to be a hit. This show pulled higher ratings than Married with Children before the departure of Johnny Depp and newcomer Richard Grieco. This show deserves to be on dvd!!!!

I'm so glad 21 jump street is coming on dvd. i've been waiting for it for a long time. I recently discovered this series and they stopped showing it on public TV so I was bummed out, but now I can buy it! yey Depp!

5-0 out of 5 stars Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They have all these ridiculous shows on coming out on (i.e, ALF) DVD, finally a show with more substance (I'm fibbing, I just love Johnny Depp). I'm looking forward to buying this on October 26..........

5-0 out of 5 stars 21 JUMP STREET!
21 jump street was my favorite TV series in my childhood..and I became Johnn Depp fan since 21 jump street...*_*....With this DVD my Johnny Depp collection is complete!! ^.^....Hope all seasons will release soon!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Doug Penhall is the man!!!
How could anyone not love this show? The cast was awesome. Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson... but my favorite was Peter Deluise. That guy was both a stud and a riot.

I also must acknowledge the honesty the show brought to the air in terms of showing how emotionally hurt the school kids who got arrested were when they were busted by people they once thought of as friends. Some of the kids understood it was truly for their (and societies) own good, and others did not.

My favorite episodes involved Doug Penhall marrying Marta (a beautiful girl from El Salvador), and the pain of his wife being deported and murdered by their government once she returned home- extremely touching (and not what one expects from a teen cop show!)

This is one of my favorite series ever- and I really encourage everyone to go back and relive the first season. It's really a fun ride!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cadet Kelly
Kelly is a prissy, artistic teen who can also be a little bit of a smart aleck. When her mother re-marries and breaks the news to Kelly - they're moving and she's going to be attending military school at their new location - she is miserble. But could she be the one to turn military school into a place of fun, fashion, and friends? Most likely not. Will she be able to handle the fact that her stepdad is the HEAD of the school? She's not sure. And finally, will she be able to turn her stepdad into a "father" before the new baby arrives? As Kelly often says, she has "to do everything".

This is an entertaining, feel-good sort of movie. It's definately not worthy of an Academy Award or anything like that, but I like to watch it sometimes whenever it's on the Disney Channel.Christy Carlson Romano does a great job as the mean "Captain Stone", as does Hilary as the funky, fun "Kelly".Overall, this movie is simple, but it's still good.I recommend it to Hilary Duff and Christy Carlson Romano fans, as well as to girls who love a good tween movie. But, I ALSO recommend that (unless you don't have cable) you watch it on the Disney Channel, because then you can view it for free!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Great family movie-- have seen it on the Disney channel and extremely glad it is coming out on DVD.Must see!Hilary Duff does a great job.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent

Good for ALL ages!

Description

Johnny Depp ruled as TV’s hottest young actor in this third season of the hit series that shot him to stardom. Depp stars as undercover cop Tom Hanson, who along with fellow officers Harry Ioki (Dustin Nguyen), Judy Hoffs (Holly Robinson Peete) and Doug Penhall (Peter DeLuise), tackles tough cases of teen pregnancy, drug dealers, child molestation, army desertion, racism, homelessness, murder and more, including the introduction of Dennis Booker (Richard Grieco). Steven Williams co-stars as Captain Fuller in the Fox-TV sensation co-created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell (HUNTER, PROFIT) that Entertainment Weekly still hails as "too cool for school!" 21 JUMP STREET – THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON contains all 20 explosive episodes – including the unforgettable two-part cliffhanger finale in which Hanson wages a one-man war against the street gang that shot Ioki – featuring such guest stars as Bridget Fonda, Peri Gilpin, Dom DeLuise, Larenz Tate, Christopher Titus, Mario Van Peebles and Kelly Hu. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best
You'd be hard pressed to find a better collection of top-notch Star Trek episodes anywhere. Picard is one of the best Star Trek captains ever and Patrick Stewart the best actor to appear in the series. So right there you've got a winning combo. Add to that some of TNG's most interesting, thought provoking, and emotionally compelling episodes and you just can't loose.

Included on this DVD are the episodes:

The Big Goodbye
Sarek
Family
The Drumhead
Darmok
The Inner Light
Tapestry

Combined they not only provide a well rounded study of Picard but show off the heights to which TNG sailed. Anyone who is a fan of the show who didn't get the complete series on DVD or would like to be introduced to TNG should pick up this DVD collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a fine set for non collectors.
I cannot understand the attitude of collectors that call this set "double-dipping". After all,you don't have to buy it,do you? No-one is twisting any collectors arm.
If you are a non-collector that just wants a "best of" series then sets like this are fine.
For example, there maybe fans that don't want to buy the largely mediocre first season of Star Trek:The Next Generation, but do want the Peabody Award winning episode "The Big Goodbye" from that season which is on this set. If that is the case, then this set is ideal for them.
In fact, one of the things that has been neglected by studios is that "best of" sets would be a good idea for fans of TV shows that don't want all of the episodes. I think that would be a very good thing.
"Best of" sets do have their place for fans that don't want to waste money on bad Trek episodes like "The Way To Eden,Angel One,Q-Less,Bride Of Chaotica" and other stinkers from the various Star Trek shows. I could make a bigger list of the bad episodes, but this review would take up too many pages.
Wouldn't it be nice if fans could buy the best episodes on any television series on one DVD set? I think that would be a great idea that would be embraced by some buyers.
This set also has a non-Trek documentary narrated by Patrick Stewart called "From Here To Infinity" which makes a nice extra.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yet another Star Trek DVD double-dip hose-job to be avoided
Sigh... once again Paramount tries to pull off the ol' dreaded DVD double-dip ploy (read my SYLT guide on this annoying phenomenon at www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/guides/guide-display/-/3CVFIEG84F2PF/ref=cm_aya_av.sylt_sylt/002-6135121-8178428) on the Trekkie crowd by releasing NextGen DVD sets based on a theme (like this "Best of Captain Picard" dealie) after having put them out in full-season sets over a year back (as of this writing)! Come on, now-- everybody knows that you're supposed to put the theme-based stuff out BEFORE the full-season sets if ya wanna squeeze the maximum amount of 'double-dip' buckage outta the fans! Take the distributors of the 'South Park' DVDs for example: they put out a couple single-disc volumes-- many of which had some kinda theme to 'em-- and THEN they put out the full-season sets. They did it this way because they knew they wouldn't make nearly as much of a killing the other way around! So remember: if you're gonna hose me and my fellow Trekkie DVDphiles, you may as well do it in a way that gets you as much of that filthy lucre as possible! Remember: the inferior product first, and THEN the 'new-and-improved' product! Just a little lesson in marketing for all of ya's out there!

As for the bonus 'From Here to Infinity' documentary show (narrated by ol' chrome-dome himself) that's to be included with this set: I've seen it, and found it a bit of a bore. Stewart narrates without any of the emotion or character he put into his most famous pop-culture icon. And it didn't help that the script he was reciting contained few cosmological factoids that I found even remotely interesting. Oh well-- there's always the Discovery and Learning Channels if I wanna see some truly interesting space docs...

With the release of Wiseguy on DVD, one of the best TV series of the 1980s gets a new lease on life. Long before Donnie Brasco brought similar drama to the big screen, Ken Wahl brought charisma, credibility, and chutzpah to his small-screen role as Vincent Terranova, a handsome 30-year-old agent with the FBI's Organized Crime Bureau. As conceived by cocreators Stephen Cannell (of The Rockford Files and The A-Team fame) and Ken Lupo, Wiseguy followed an innovative "story-arc" structure, allowing Vinnie's deep-cover missions to last only as long as necessary to bring each case to a sensible conclusion. Since copied by countless TV shows, this unique approach to storytelling attracted a devoted following of viewers addicted to the self-contained plots that forced Vinnie, his sourpuss OCB handler Frank McPike (Jonathan Banks), and disabled covert liaison Dan "Lifeguard" Burroughs (played by double-amputee Jim Byrnes) to achieve their objectives within 6 to 10 hourlong episodes.

Season 1, Part 1--the first of six Wiseguy DVD sets--includes the entire nine-episode arc (plus pilot) in which Vinnie infiltrates the New Jersey mob family of Sonny Steelgrave, a silk-suited kingpin played by Ray Sharkey in his finest TV role. Their brotherly relationship poses a moral dilemma for Vinnie (giving the arc its dramatic core and primary source of suspense), and Wiseguy earned its reputation as a well-written series that favored character-driven tension while providing the requisite pulp fiction (i.e. occasional murder and mayhem) that kept viewers and advertisers happy. While the DVD packaging gives bogus equal billing to Annette Bening (who appears here in one pivotal episode), her pre-stardom appearance is indicative of the show's consistently high standards in writing, casting, and stylish direction. The styles may be dated (including poodle-puff hairdos for women, including Bening), but there's not a weak episode in the bunch, including the stand-alone shows (involving domestic crises for McPike and Burroughs) that allowed character growth beyond the story-arc structure.

After the intense "Sonny Steelgrave" arc of first-season episodes, the producers of Wiseguy faced the challenge of topping themselves, and they did it by casting a relatively unknown New York stage actor named Kevin Spacey, who proceeded to chew up the scenery as only a future Oscar®-winner could. But Spacey's not the only reason for the giddy success of the "Mel Profitt" arc, which finds OCB agent Vinnie Terranova (Ken Wahl) teaming up with sociopathic assassin Roger Lococco (William Russ) in an effort to infiltrate the global drugs-and-guns empire of the Proffitt siblings Mel (Spacey), a "manic-depressive genius with acute paranoia," and his codependent sister Susan (Joan Severance), who keeps her incestuously devoted brother happy by injecting home-brewed narcotics between his toes (hence giving Spacey his trademark line, "Only the toes knows!").

TV audiences in 1988 had never seen such a twisted sibling relationship, and there's plenty of eccentric chemistry between Spacey and then-newcomer Severance, who later developed a loyal male following as a B-movie sexpot. Completing their triangle of terror is Russ, playing Lococco as a tormented Vietnam vet with a massive chip on his shoulder, luring Vinnie into a life of luxury and lethal behavior, thus complicating matters considerably for Vinnie's covert handlers McPike (Jonathan Banks) and Lifeguard (Jim Byrnes), who grow increasingly worried as Vinnie gains Mel Profitt's hard-won trust. The quality of these 12 episodes remains consistently high as the Profitts reach "psychotic critical mass," leading to Mafia connections and a new direction for Vinnie's loving mother (well-played by Elsa Raven). Through it all, Wahl (who proves himself a man of few words in a sparse one-episode commentary) maintains his strong presence as a leading man, generously allowing Spacey's rising star to shine. Wiseguy still had some highlights in its future, but the "Mel Profitt" arc represents the series at its best. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wiseguy - Change in themes
I just finished the Sonny Steelgrave arc and was disappointed with only one thing. In the last episode of the Arc, when Sonny and Vinnie are in the theater, they changed the background music from the original. They kept Good Lovin', but replaced Nights in White Satin with some nondescript instrumental track. Other than that, the set was great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent show for teens, good messages, and morals
this show is as close to reality as possible in Jr. High. Hilary is a great role model for young girls, and msot girls went thru or are going thru what Lizzie does in these shows. And of course girls will love this, but so will boys becaue Duff is SO CUTE and Lalaine is SMOKIN' HOT, I mean she sizzles in the screen, magandang Pinay!!! So buy thsi dvd it is great and full of life's lessons and great family values.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie McGuire sends a bad message to young people...
This show is just plain-out pathetic! Not only does it teach girls to be stuck up little b**ches, but it also sends a bad message to every young individual overall. The show mostly tells us that you should try and be better than everyone else and act snobby and stupid. (When really you should be ORIGINAL and be YOU! Not some other little punk!) And now, after many of those viewers (who are probably around 8-12 years old) watch this dribble, it will only send them the wrong idea and our next generation will be a COMPLETE major pain in the arse! Believe me, I'm 18 years old and can easily tell from this stuff. I'm SO glad they stopped the show a long time ago before it warped more young minds. Sorry, Hilary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wack, except for Haylie's cameo
This DVD is kinda wack because the episodes are lame and pathetic, I guess the Erik Estrada one is funny in a way, but still wack. I should give it 0 stars, but I give it one star because of Haylie Duff's cameo in "Xtreme Xmas" she has like a couple lines in it. Haylie rules!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie McGuire: Star Struck
This DVD features the episodes:

01. Here Comes Aaron Carter - when Aaron Carter does a video shoot for "I Want Candy" and Lizzie and the gang sneak in

02. Lizzie in the Middle - where Frankie Muniz comes to town and hangs with Lizzie

03. Xtreme Xmas - where Steven Tyler helps make Lizzie's Christmas parade float by singing "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town"

5-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie McGuire rules
i watch lizzie mcguire everyday and this dvd would be a great gift for a girl whose growing up. (between ages 10-14) it's great because it's really funny and teaches you stuff at the same time. i also recommend the lizzie mcguire movie dvd with this item. It's a classic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie McGuire Rocks!
This DVD features the episodes:

Misadventures in Babysitting

Between a Rock and a Bra Place

Rated Aargh

Party Over Here

5-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie Mcguire is fine!
I just want to say that some people think that Lizzie Mcguire isn't for people under thirteen, and that's not true! It is mostly for those pre-teen girls. It's not really for guys, or girls under the age of ten, but not because there's something bad about it, it's just that there's this episode about Lizzie getting a bra, and about five or six episodes where she has a crush on somebody. I don't recommend it for boys of any age though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not what it could have been--but far better than nothing.
I suppose one should start out with the 'bad' here.

Cons:

1. Merely adequate visual and audio. While certainly serviceable, the overall quality of the presentation isn't what one has come to expect from the DVD format.

2. No continuity of episodes. It's bad enough that the episodes are being parceled out like this, but it's as though the episodes chosen were purely at random. The episodes have nothing to do with one another. They're not even from the same season!

3. Severe editing. The credits for each episode have been expunged here. All one gets is one credit crawl at the very end of all the episodes only covering one of the episodes shown! Very poor choice there (and one would think it would violate SAG bylaws...). Also, one doesn't get to view the opening credits before each episode; it too is only shown once for all four.

The only 'extra' consists of a new music video featuring Hilary Duff's first single, "I Can't Wait".

Pros:

It's "Lizzie McGuire" on DVD! :-)

At the end of the day, one gets the feeling that Disney rushed this project in order to cash in on the current "Lizzie-Mania" that has swept the land. But they've had so much time to get all their ducks in a row, one should (and does) expect better from the product. Disney knows that the fans will eat up anything "Lizzie" related right now--sub par or not.

However, barring an expanded version at some point, this is all we've got, and as such is worth buying. A flawed "Lizzie" DVD is better than no "Lizzie" DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars HILLARY IS "SO YESTERDAY"!
save your self money and your child's sanity! don't buy this DVD! as a teenager myself i strongly oppose of hillary duff/lizzie mcguire. her shows are very perdicatible! her parents are very liberal. how does lizze and ethan always get together as friends? they hardly ever talk to each other. isn't there one tv show on earth where the guy is cute and smart. and the main lead is NOT a blond. u gotta be blond and blue eyed to get a guy and that is exactly what hillary does. don't buy hillary duff products. it is a waste of money!!! ... Lizzie McGuire, played by Teen Choice award-winning Hilary Duff, is a winsome eighth grader with a unique sense of style and burning desire to be popular--a condition that resonates with pre-teens everywhere. This quartet of episodes from the television series (which inspired the feature film) finds Lizzie climbing to a new pinnacle of popularity. When Lizzie signs a modeling contract with Teen Attitude Magazine, she gains instant popularity at the expense of true friendship. In the second episode, desperation over an upcoming vote for "best dressed" tempts Lizzie to lie and outspend her budget in the quest for notoriety.Meanwhile, Lizzie's brother Matt becomes a prisoner of his own instant fame.Lizzie takes being a role model a bit too far in the third episode and almost winds up losing her uniqueness while Matt's Dad takes a beating trying to help Matt earn a wilderness badge. When Lizzie sets a new school record for the "Presidential Fitness Challenge" in the fourth episode, she quickly gains a reputation as a "dude"--a reputation that just might end her chances of ever getting a date.Matt, on the other hand, suddenly finds himself praised for a newfound academic prowess--too bad the praise really belongs to a mischievous monkey. Im in love with Hilary Duff. Only 16 years old and she is a superstar, how I wish I were her so much! Kind of depresses me...

4-0 out of 5 stars Lizzie McGuire DVD's
even though i am a great fan of Lizzie McGuire and have been since the show came out in 2000, when i purchased volumes 1 and 2 of the series, i was annnoyed that it only came with four episodes on each dvd. each episode is only about 25 minutes long, so i was really suprised when disney chose to only put four episodes on each dvd, why not 6 or 8 episodes as it is worth it for the price that you are paying. overall this is a great show for all kids, and you can never get bored of rewatching these for episodes!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this show

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kids Show On Television these Days!
If you asked me what the best show on television for kids is, I would have no, and I mean absolutely no hesitation, in saying that it is the Lizzie McGuire show. It features a young girl having to deal with the issues of Middle School and how she manages through her struggles, by choosing to do what is right in the end. Sometimes, she temporarily masses up and ends up getting the consequences of her actions, and does what is right in the end.
Eight episodes were released on DVD on December 9th. They are bundled as "Fashionable Lizzie" and "Growing Up Lizzie." These DVDs make great Christmas presents and if you buy both of them, you might consider buying another Disney DVD title (such as the Lizzie McGuire Movie), because Disney will give you another DVD for free. This offer expires at the end of December though. Again, these are great DVDs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Why only four episodes?
I was excited to hear Disney was going to release some of the best episodes of Lizzie McGuire on dvd, but I am upset about how they are going about it. The first thing that made me mad was the fact that there are only four episodes on each volume. In England, theres six. Also, The UK versions are in the order the episodes were filmed. In the UK, Disney will have eventually released the entire series on dvd. All 65 episodes. I hope Disney releases all the episodes on dvd in the U.S. And I expect more than just four episodes on volumes 3 and 4. ... Read more

Wes Craven's name is prominently displayed on the promotional material for Don't Look Down, but the veteran horror filmmaker did little beyond executive-produce and lend his marquee value to this 1998 made-for-TV thriller. It's too bad, because Craven might've made something from this bland creepshow; in its current form, it's competently made but completely forgettable. Megan Ward stars as Carla, who is left with a crippling fear of heights after her sister falls to her death from a cliff. To combat her phobia, she joins a controversial support group, but soon after, members of the group begin dying in mysterious falls. Carla believes that she might be the next victim and suspects that the killer is her sister, returned from the grave to avenge her death. Decent performances and direction can't overcome a surfeit of red herrings and false scares, and Don't Look Down is best reserved for non-discerning suspense/supernatural fans. Artisan's full-screen DVD offers no extras. --Paul Gaita ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
A different Craven movie is a thriller and not a horror movie has almost no gore.

3-0 out of 5 stars DIZZYING FILM
Poor Wes Craven...since his main claim to fame is the Freddy Kruger series, you'd think he'd try and do more on his own, instead of adding his name to films to obviously attract his fans. Fans of Craven certainly won't enjoy this "suspense thrilelr", as there is hardly any gore, no demons in the night. However, if Craven had taken this on himself and had a higher budget, and a more fitting cast, DON'T LOOK DOWN could have really been an effective shocker.
As it stands, Billy Burke steals the show as Megan Ward's sympathetic husband, who is trying to help his wife through a devastating fear of heights, caused by the untimely death of her younger sister. Megan Ward is reminiscent of a high school thespian, using overblown theatrical gestures and speeches to play Burke's wife. However, for a made for t.v. thriller, it's entertaining and particularly chilling to those with a fear of heights.

3-0 out of 5 stars as good as it can be
i liked this movie but it was boring. nothing special.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit in with Wes Craven films
This film just doesn't blend in with other Wes Craven films. While it has a nice story line, minimal blut & guts, I do not think this is what true Wes Craven fans were thinking when they happened upon this. I saw the blood on the front cover & read the back and thought it would be a "normal" Wes Craven film, such as others with blood & gore, a decent plot, but all the horror I look for in a Wes Craven film. I was greatly let down & would like to let people know if you are looking for a horror filled flick, this is NOT the film for you. This has minimal gore, minimal violence and a high ability to bore you if you are seeking horror. However, if horror is not your thing and a good plot with some mild depressing losses (the loss of a sister) is what you are looking for, then here is your film!

5-0 out of 5 stars DON'T LOOK DOWN!
THIS IS THE BEST WES CRAVEN MOVIE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT HAS MINIMAL GORE AND RELIES MORE ON STORY AND ACTING.
THE STORY IS VERY GOOD AND THE MOVIE KEEPS YOU ON EDGE.
THERE'S NOT MUCH MORE ONE CAN ASK FOR!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This unparalleled TV comedy should be on DVD by now !!!
So I'm reviewing a DVD that doesn't exist (yet). The main reason I'm writing anything at all is to urge anyone who stumbles upon this to enter your email address above, requesting to be informed by Amazon should this title ever actually make it to DVD. There's no obligation to buy, but entering your email address will count as a vote toward convincing the studio to release this incredibly clever, outrageously funny and stingingly accurate TV show from 1999 (Fox). The 13 half-hour episodes, plus a few bonus features, would fit nicely on 2 discs. Starring Jay Mohr and an outstanding ensemble cast, plus some big Hollywood names playing, and satirizing, themselves, it's as good as any TV comedy I've ever seen. I've been a huge fan of The Honeymooners, Barney Miller, Taxi, Cheers, Bosom Buddies, Seinfeld, Friends, Sports Night, Arrested Development, Scrubs and, recently, The Office (the Steve Carell version - haven't caught the British original yet). If your TV comedy tastes are even remotely close to mine, you will absolutely love Action. ... Read more
