5-0 out of 5 stars I don't want to make a big mulage, or anything
this is a wonderful collection!Great quality--- love the "lost snippets" that we never see due to television chopping these up so painfully! My ONLY complaint is about the previews on Disc 1 -- First of all, why would ANYONE who loves TAGS want to see previews to McGyver and Charmed???? puuuuleeeeeeeease!Secondly, if they MUST put previews, WHY can't we at least fast-forward them?I think it was pretty low for the company to make the previews unable to be forwarded through-- low!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Second Season
For those that complain, about the 7 minutes of advertising - obviously you all don't have the kind of DVD player I have, because I had no problem hitting the fast forward button a few times to 4th speed and I'm there. I'm watching all the wonderful episodes, while everyone else is complaining. My suggestions get some cheese with your wine!
Besides if you all think you can do a better job, by all means do it and stop complaining!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV!!!!
What A Wonderful Set!!! The Added Sponser Spots By The Cast Are Very Funny!!! Lots Of Great Guest Stars, & Terrific Episodes!!! Bill Bixby, Barbara Eden & Alan Hale!!! As For The Paramount Ads....WHO CARES!!!!!!! Ten Minutes Of Ads To Get A Season Full Of Warmth, Heart & Humor Seems Like A Small Price To Pay!!! Keep The Seasons Coming!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not "forced" and I love the DVD!!!!
I agree with David.I had little problem advancing passed the commercials, so I was not "forced" to watch any of them.Of course, Paramount could have been nice and left the commercials off, but their main concern is making money, and lots of it.The inconvience of spinning through the commercials (which takes me approximately 10 seconds) is nothing when compared to the rest of the DVD's content! This is easily the best situation comedy of all time and has never stopped being aired in the nearly 45 years since it first ran on CBS.This DVD will be highlighted in my DVD collection, just as season one is.I especially like the added "original sponsor spots",many of which I don't remember ever seeing before.Does anyone know if these "spots" ran during the first season of the show?If so, I hope they tag them on to the season three set along with the season three spots.

1-0 out of 5 stars Commercialism Destroys The Enjoyment of Mayberry
Paramount Studios (owned by Viacom) has taken their commercialism to an all time low.The Andy Griffith Show has been one of my favorite, most relaxing shows for many years.I purchased the complete 2nd season, anticipating laughs and relaxation. But, hold on.Paramount forces the viewer to sit through at least 10 MINUTES of advertisements on disc one - you cannot fast forward through it - you cannot switch to the top menu. The viewer must endure 10 miserable minutes, watching advertisements for other DVD's (which many of us have no interest in). This was not done on the complete first season.I'm seriously considering the return of this DVD set - I do not like to be exploited / forced to endure 10 unending minutes of commercial trash.I don't even watch regular TV - to avoid commercials. What a shame. What a shame that such a materialistic, moronic company owns the rights to The Andy Griffith Show. This has taught me to avoid ALL Paramount DVD's in the future.Burn me once, shame on you - there will not be a second time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney Is Back
This is a great Set of 8 of the best Andy Griffith Show featuring the unforgettable Barney Fife.

The only down fall is that they don't include the origional theme song.

2-0 out of 5 stars At Least it Has Barney
Call me a crybaby, but I couldn't get over the fact that the music is not the original music. I had to fast forward each intro due to the horrible tune. Yuck! At least the shows feature Barney.

One thing to look out for is that many if these DVDs have the same episodes, just recycled into different packaging. I found this out after I bought "The Best of the Andy Griffith Show" and "The Best of Barney" in an Amazon package deal. Those 16 episodes are the same as the 16 on "The Best of the Andy Griffith Show 16 Episodes". Oh well. (The later DVD set is much better.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible DVD
Please do not waste your time buying this DVD! Half of the feature would not work, the episode would skip and the theme song is some cheap knock-off. I was very disappointed with the whole DVD. I wish someone would come out with the Andy show in seasons like any other respectable show. Please give this show some dignity and respect.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Almost Best of Barney
This DVD has a few bonus features but once you do it once it gets boring I hope this review was helpful to you. NNOOOOOTTTT

5-0 out of 5 stars The best televison show ever made!!!!!!!!
This DVD is one of the best quality Andy Griffith collection out there. I have seen a few other DVDs that the picture and sound quality is so poor its hard to enjoy. The quality here is great considering how old AG Show is. Plus if your a Barney Fife fan like me, you'll enjoy every one of the episodes. This DVD takes you back to the simple life in Mayberry NC, and is one the whole family will watch over and over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sal Mineo's drum playing is outstanding
Sal Mineo plays legendary jazz drummer,Gene Krupa,in this bio pic. This is an outstanding movie Sal's acting is superb, and his drum playing is breathtaking!Sal Mineo was one of the great actors of modern time, and this film proves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME! SAL MINEO ROCKS!
"The Gene Krupa" is possibly the BEST movie in which SAL MINEO was the picture's main STAR~~A huge Box Office hit in 1959! He studied the drums for 18 months(training with the real Gene Krupa) and although he is playing along onscreen to the REAL Krupa's soundtrack, Mineo's drumming is REAL and leaves you breathless. His acting in this film, as always, is amazing, and the supporting cast is awesome! Featuring the lovely Susan Kohner(who also co-starred in Sal's hit movie version of his tv play, "DINO"), James Darren, and apperances by jazz greats, Anita O'Day, Red Nichols, and Buddy Lester, this is a wonderful biopic sure to thrill jazz lovers, and inspire all generations of future drummers. It's also a wonderful treat for the Sal Mineo fan, especially to see him in something so different than his most famous Oscar nominated role in "Rebel without a cause."(Sal Mineo also was nominated for an Oscar and won the Golden Globe for "EXODUS")

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY ON DVD!!!! Release more Mineo flicks on DVD!
At long last, "The Gene Krupa story" has been released on DVD by Sony/Columbia home video. Rather than review the actual film, this review concentrates on the DVD format as I am very pleased with this edition! The DVD is nicely packaged with a color picture on the front of the box. The film's glorious black and white has been digitally remastered and the clarity is just amazing. Even more important, the film is presented in full "widescreen" so you can view the film the way it was originally presented in theatres. This allows you to view the entire scope of the screen, instead of having the left and right sides of the screen chopped off into a crappy traditional "square" television format. You can see so much more as we all know how wonderful wide screen is. Although the soundtrack is still "mono," Sony has digitally remastered it, and presents it on this disc in "Dolby Digital." This makes a huge difference as the sound is deeper, lusher, and does great justice to the music. This is simply a beautiful presentation of this film. There are no "special features" such as behind the scenes or out takes, however it does have an interactive menu complete with chapter search. This DVD version of the film blows the old VHS version out of the water! For me, this DVD gave me a fresh new viewpoint of the film. The widescreen format compliments Sal's drumming so much that the VHS version could never come close to doing. I rate this DVD a 10+ on the scale of 1-10! If you love this film as much as I do, BUY THE DVD! Now, if only "Who Killed Teddy Bear" could be released on DVD..Now that would be a treat! I am concluding this review with some technical specs: Screen Formats: Widescreen Anamorphic 1.85:1 Closed Captioned Language and Sound: English: Dolby Digital Mono Original Release Date in theatres: 1959. Released to DVD in May, 2004

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of Sal Mineo's Finest Performances
For jazz and music lovers "The Gene Krupa Story", is unsurpassed entertainment of the first order and contains some of the best ever work by talented actor Sal Mineo. Sal took on his first real solo starring role in this biography of the legendary Gene Krupa who as the percussionist for the Benny Goodman Quartet became the first real jazz heartthrob developing a legion of besotted fans. A major part of his legend was his innovative playing of the drums and in this film Sal Mineo manages to recreate that special magic, with some of the most amazing precussion work ever caught on screen. Having gained stardom for his sensational work in "Rebel Without a Cause", Sal Mineo was at just the right age and level of acting experience to tackle this major acting role and to his credit he manages all the stages in Krupa's life in a totally believable manner with a minimum of sentiment. Mineo's level of understanding of both the sheer genius of Krupa's ability and also his darker personal side makes for a wonderful screen performance that stays in the mind and makes "The Gene Krupa Story", a viewing experience to treasure.

The film traces Krupa's life from his humble beginnings in Chicago as the youngest child of working class parents who live by the rules of traditional life based around family and the church. We get a very early glimpse of the conflict already existing in young Gene when he brings home a set of drums which his angry father smashes as unsuitable for his son to be wasting his time on. After his father's death Gene however bows to the expectations of his family and joins the priesthood but after a year realises that it is not the life for him. He joins up with friend Eddie Sirota (James Darren) and his band and begins playing in many of Chicago's speakeasies. Eddie has a girlfriend Ethel (Susan Kohner), however soon a real attraction develops between her and Gene. Determined to succeed Gene soon pursuades Eddie to make a stab at work in New York's jazz scene. After a rough start and surviving on little money Gene through the force of his personality and sheer talent , manages to get a break which sees him climbing to stardom as the most electrifying performer in New York's big band scene. However stardom with all its adulation and material benefits also reveals its dark side as Gene begins to become involved in the heavy drug and drinking culture of the musicians world. His success also sees him begin to loose sight of the people who are important to him as he becomes alienated from Ethel who after committing herself to Gene finds herself forgotten. Best friend Eddie also drifts away as he doesn't approve of his friends free wheeling drug laden lifestyle. After being set up on a drug charge Gene's world rapidly crumbles before his eyes and he serves a jail term for possession which sees all those people, like selfish singer Dorissa Dinell, supposedly his lover abandon him in his hour of need. Upon release Gene experiences the full force of being considered a "has been", as he is reduced to performing in strip clubs and gambling houses. The hard times however refuel Gene's earlier love of music for the sheer joy of it and ever faithful Ethel comes back into his life as the steadying force she always was in the hard times. The conclusion sees Gene reunited with Eddie's band and setting out on a new life as the talented drummer that he is but this time with a more level view of what is important in life, which in his case is the devoted love of Ethel.

Sal Mineo is perfectly cast as Gene Krupa and he actually received the wholehearted blessing of the jazz legend to play him in the film. Mineo worked with Krupa to perfect his drum playing and the result on screen is sensational as Sal Mineo gives his heart and sole to his playing. The drum playing was actually recorded by Krupa however Mineo had the difficult task of matching that on screen which he does admirably. Totally devoted to perfecting his craft as an actor Mineo died far too young and sadly saw his star eclipsed long before it should have. This film along with "Rebel Without A Cause", and "Exodus", among others is this talented actors legacy to the movie going public and he will be remembered always for his great work in them. The supporting cast is uniformily fine with James Darren as Krupa's best friend Eddie, the before mentioned Susan Kohner as Ethel, and Susan Oliver in the hard driven role of Dorissa really shining and they perfectly compliment Sal Mineo's work. Appearances by real life jazz performers Buddy Lester, Red Nichols and Anita day also add an authentic ring to the story depicted. Character actress Celia Lovsky also has a memorable role as Gene's disapproving mother who is mystified by her son's obsession with the drums. The photography in "The Gene Krupa Story", is top flight with the often seedy black and white photography highly effective in particular in both Gene's pre stardom scenes and those depicted in his fall from grace when much of the action takes place in seedy "greyish", surroundings. Mineo's supreme concentration on his playing of the drums is a marvel to watch and is guaranteed to leave you breathless.

The great thing about "The Gene Krupa Story", is that you dont have to be a jazz enthusiast to enjoy the story or the music. For any lover of the drums it makes compulsory viewing and the golden age of jazz in the 30's is authentically recreated in this Columbia studios production. For me the best thing about the film will always be seeing the extraordinary talent of Sal Mineo on display. He combines strength and a touching vulnerability in his playing of Gene Krupa that leaves you rooting for him right through. I highly recommend this film to all lovers of jazz/swing and to those that like the less sentimental kind of performer film biography. Enjoy Sal Mineo at his electrifying best in "Columbia's "The Gene Krupa Story".

5-0 out of 5 stars hooray! The Gene Krupa Story
I was stationed on a NIKE Army site between Albany and Sylvester Georgia in 1960-1961. I had the priviledge of showing the movies on our base. Due to staggered duty hours for the troops, I ran the Gene Krupa Story 3 times in one evening with the last showing at midnight. It was the only multible showing of any movie but I was more than eager to run the Gene Krupa Story as I was enthralled with the music and great drumming. Being a musician myself, it was a pleasure to offer it to my buddies no matter what time it was! Ben Shackelton ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Andy and Barney at their funniest!
From the fall of 1960 when the Andy Griffith Show premiered to spring 1965 when Don Knotts left the series,Mayberry sheriff Andy Taylor(Griffith) and deputy Barney Fife(Knotts) were in constant partnership when at the police station in Mayberry. This package contains the first humorous police work on screen, big or small. Later there would be humorous police work on "Barney Miller" and the "Police Academy" movies. Giving Griffith and Knotts moral support are Ronny Howard as Andy's son Opie and the late Frances Bavier as Andy's aunt Bee. Howard later would star as Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and become one of Hollywood's best-loved movie directors. Griffith would star on "Matlock" and Knotts would join the "Three's Company" cast as landlord Ralph Furley. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait...DO NOT buy this DVD
Dismal picture quality (it looks like it was literally recorded off the air by somebody using a consumer DVD recorder). WAIT until somebody decides to release quality sets. I am sure the original masters exist; they are valuable enough that at some point the whole series will be released. MONEY and greed talk. In the meantime, just tape or DVD record your OWN episodes off TV for free...you'll get better quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Antenna quality- Can anyone do any better????? PLEASE
This particular DVD set is NOT of very good quality. But being a true TAGS fan, I'll take what I can get. I still LOVE watching the hilarious comedy while overlooking the poor picture and sound. It's true what they say "You get what you pay for", this set's quality matches the price. For now, this is about the best you can get, if you are willing to overlook the quality. Just pretend it's 1963. It's about the same quality sound and picture as back then, if you had good antenna reception.
But can anyone do any better? PLEASE
Some years ago a company put out the Andy Griffith Show on VHS, four episodes per tape. (Great Quality)
It's time for them to do the same on DVD. PLEASE?
I speak for all TRUE TAGS Fans, when I say, We WILL buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled!
Ok, I am one of the biggest fans of the Andy Griffith show. And I'm even more of a fan of Don Knotts. BUT, this DVD is worthless for one reason - its video quality is worse than broadcast television (I'm not kidding). I bought this at a local store that won't take returns on opened DVD's, so I lost out. What a waste of money. Don't buy it!

If you want a great Don Knotts movie on DVD, buy "The Shakiest Gun in the West". Its absolutely perfect in every way! (as far as Don Knotts movies go)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even have to buy it to know
You only have to read two reviews to know what this is--a piece of garbage.

It is truly a shame that whoever owns these shows doesn't clean up THE ORIGINALS & release them as per-season box sets. Other shows of this era are being released--Why not this one?! Are they so mired in legal matters that it can't be done? I've often wondered.

Can you begin to imagine how many they could sell? You just know that at least a million customers would go out & buy all 5 of the B&W seasons. That's $125 (5 box sets) x 1,000,000 = 125-million bucks at least. 'Not enough return I suppose.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best DVD available for this show!
I grew up just after the shows original run ended and watched this show frequently in syndication. It is a great show that blends comedy, drama and moral lessons. In recent years I have tried to tape the entire 8 year show off of tv and have found that usually several minutes of the show are cut out to make room for more commercials. This really ticks me off!! When a show like TAGS is already made to fit commercials in why do tv and cable stations feel the need to remove 3 to 5 minutes of the show to fit in additonal commericals?

Anyway, I've looked forward to TAGS on DVD and recently my wife purchased this 16 episode 2 DVD package for me. My version does not have the original theme song during the opening and ending credits but rather some poorly done replacement tune. This is a real downer as I, like everyone else, enjoy the original theme song. It helps set the mood for TAGS. However, the shows themselves are fine and the picture quality good. It also has the complete shows.

My version of this DVD has some retro commercials in between some of the episodes. It also has some old cartoons such as POPEYE between the episodes. I rather enjoy these old commercials and cartoons. It reminds me of my childhood when I would watch TAGS in the afternoon in syndication followed by the afternoon cartoons.

So while I eagerly await a boxed set of season by season episodes of TAGS along with the original theme this DVD will tide me over. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Here Be Munsters
This had all the makings of a huge disaster. We had already born witness to the huge travesty that was The Addams Family Halloween reunion special four years earlier in 1977, so there weren't high expectations for this one. While the film is by no means a classic or what one would of hoped, it isn't all that bad at all. It's quite enjoyable and very watchable and makes you just about forget The Addams Family mistake. Well, almost. By now, we all know the story already. The Munsters was an ABC show that ran for only two seasons(1964-1966)and consisted of 70 episodes. There was the man of the house, Herman Munster(Fred Gwynne), his wife Lily(Yvonne DeCarlo), her father Grandpa(Al Lewis), son Eddie(Butch Patrick), and beautiful niece Marilyn(Originally Beverly Owen, then Pat Priest). They resided at 1313 Mockinbird Lane. This 1981 reunion brings back the 3 main players, Gwynne, DeCarlo, and Lewis, while newcomers played Eddie and Marilyn. Comedy legend Sid Caesar plays a crook who has his wax dummies at the wax museum come to life and pull off robberies. Two such wax dummies are dead ringers for Herman and Grandpa. Naturally, our favorite gruesome twosome are charged with the robberies and it's up to Herman and Grandpa to clear their names and stop the madman. The depiction of Herman and Grandpa as a slapsticky comedy team is fun. What is really special about this goodhearted reunion is that the 3 main actors are all in fine form. It was as tho not a day had passed since their final episode in 1966. Gwynne, who was 54 at the time, was as usual, perfection. He knows Herman inside and out and there is not a single difference in his look or performance as Herman. He was fantastic and never got the credit he deserved. Al Lewis is Grandpa and like Gwynne, it was as if nothing had changed. There was definitley noticeability in age with DeCarlo however. Still, she was Lily. There was nothing to write home about the new actors who played Marilyn and Eddie. Obviously the original actors would of been too old to play these roles now. Points also go to the set of the famous Munster abode. It is pretty much the way it was on the series. It was nice to see the house, what we saw of it, in color. The first Munster movie, "Munster, Go Home!" in 1966, was nice, but I liked and enjoyed this one better. Like I said before, it could of easily of been a horrible disaster, but with the fantastically in top form Gwynne and Lewis, the house, and the endearing charm of the film and the series' legacy, it wasn't all that bad. Now, how about a big screen update?.

2-0 out of 5 stars Let me splain sometheen
As far as The Munsters go, this may be the worst thing ever done before Munsters Today. But as far as comparing it to the Addams family reunion movie Munsters Revenge is a Masterpiece.

3-0 out of 5 stars Weak overall, but still irresistible
For those of us who are lifelong fans of "The Munsters," this made-for-TV reunion, while weak in storyline, at least continues the life of the original series sadly cut short after only two seasons. Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis look mostly unchanged and the pair have lost none of their camraderie, and even a noticeably older Yvonne DeCarlo holds up well. Kudos also go to the set designers, who seem to have assembled as many of the original props as could be found for the interior set of the Munster home which fans know so well. [Note, however, that exterior shots of the house are taken from "Munster, Go Home!," with "England or Bust" painted on the family car. By the time "The Munsters' Revenge" was produced, the original house facade at Universal had gone through several unfortunate alterations and must have been too costly to restore and re-dress.] Call this one "for fans only."

2-0 out of 5 stars it is litttle good but still a bad flim
this migt be worth wacing somtimes but not all the time i dint reely care for this the truth about this show is to try to beat with a other monster the addams family which came first before this show this rely is not that good a rip of show that is stupid if you whant somthing that is good go see the addams family you will be glad you did

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD release
The Munsters' Revenge is, as reunion movies go, an excellent outing. The stars look remarkably unchanged (in spite of the 15 year interval)and their typical performances in character leave you feeling they've never really been away - especially with a script which is very reminiscent of the original series and is quite strong in its humour. What a great idea to release this on DVD and let's hope that this encourages the release of more Universal product reunion movies on DVD such as The Return of Ironside, The Rockford Files, etc. Well worth the money. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Why No Season by Season DVD Sets?
The Andy Griffith Show is a pretty good sitcom, it's a shame that this DVD was botched because it does contain some good episodes and I'm also very surprised that you can only find DVD's with a few episodes and that they haven't released season by season sets yet. And what's the deal with not including the original theme song? Hopefully if The Andy Griffith Show ever gets season by season DVD sets they will put the original theme song with the uncut episodes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality - 5 minutes missing from one of the episodes!
I bought this DVD expecting to see some of my favorite episodes, and yes some of the episodes are uncut. But overall the picture quality is terrible, additionally one of my favorite episodes (the one with the English Butler) is missing 5 critical minutes of he episode where the butler talks about how he likes staying with Andy and Opie, but overhears Andy and Barney talking on the porch that night. The scene obviously is missing when the butler just disappears right in the middle of the episode.

Watch TV land instead, and you'll get a better quality result.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disapointing...
The Andy Griffith Show is one of my favorite television shows... This DVD is not one of my favorites!! I bought it at Ross (heh...), I was excited and when I got home to watch it was terrible!! Yes, the shows are uncut, and the original air length, but the picture quality would porably sicken you!!

If you want to see uncut episodes, you might want to buy this DVD, but if you want good quality, might as wee watch TVLand, or... find a different DVD>

2-0 out of 5 stars Great content, poor quality
I've been a longtime fan of The Andy Griffith Show and I was excited to see some episodes released on DVD. Unfortunately, the video quality on this selection is EXTREMELY poor. It looks like the DVD was made from a dirty 16mm film; lots of abberations and gunk throughout. Even more disappointing is the fact that the original theme is NOT on this item. Instead, LaserLight decided to incorporate another version of "The Fishin' Hole" that is clearly not the original song.

On a positive note, this DVD does contain the full, uncut episodes (unlike what we see on TVLand). All in all, this DVD gives one the notion that it was released with the intention of making some quick cash for LaserLight with no effort put forth on their part to present a quality product in return.

I would LOVE to see a company release all of The Andy Griffith Show episodes on DVD that are original, uncut and of the same video quality as is seen with TVLand. When/if that happens I'll be the first in line. For now, however, we have to make do with these cheaply made releases on the market.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some what disappointed
As an long time Andy Griffith fan, I was excited to receive this DVD to show my kids. However, I really was expecting the original source material to be broadcast quality like the episodes that WTBS showed several years ago. (They showed episodes that were in mint condition completely uncut, unlike the ones you see in syndication). This looks like they found some old 3/4" copy that was left in the cellar for a several years. The video is dim and washed out but the audio is OK. The opening fishing hole walk is not consistent in each episode and the whistling just doesn't sound like the original (In at least one it's left out completely). But other than that, you just can't beat the story content of these episodes. And besides, my kids didn't pick up any of that stuff that I found offensive!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Best of Andy Griffith? I've seen better episodes than these!
First of all, there are supposedly 16 episodes in the public domain of "The Andy Griffith Show". I don't know how they became so, or whether it is possible to release more, but this collection is certainly not the best of the Andy Griffith Show. It seems like they randomly chose some of those public domain episodes, and put them on a DVD. Now, a true DVD of the "Best of the Andy Griffith Show" would be all of the Ernest T. Bass episodes, Barney's First Car, The Big House and a few others worthy of being 'the best'. This is just a cheap mix of rather un-funny episodes being called 'best' to get more sales.

1-0 out of 5 stars Duped!
I ordered BOTH the Andy Griffith marathon AND The Best of the Andy Griffith Show. Didn't you say, "customers also buy...."
All 3 shows (yes, only 3) are already on the marathon package!
Obviously, not enough product information is given....
This DVD will be sent back.... Do I even want to consider ordering more of these DVD's? How many episodes were there anyway? OK, let me take a stab in the dark here......more than 15 maybe?????

3-0 out of 5 stars What About Complete Season DVD Boxsets?
The Andy Griffith Show is a great sitcom, funny and enjoyable. I think the other reviewers made valid points in stating that the lack of the original music is a let down. When you buy one of your favorite TV shows on DVD you want every thing intact, the episodes, the music, etc. This show has a great cast of regular and recurring characters, Andy Taylor and his son Opie, Barney, Gomer, Goober, Otis, Ernest T. Bass, the Darlings etc and the actors are all good, Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, etc. I'm glad they put some episodes on DVD but 3 episodes per DVD is not enough and I would really like to see complete season DVD boxsets with the original theme music included! I say just pay the royalty fee and use the original music! Try to make some kind of deal with the person who owns the rights to the music. A compromise maybe?

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
No theme music. "Best of" is a joke. Only 3 episodes. Would have been much better to watch the reruns on TV. Not at all collector quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine with me
First of all, I am ticked off at all the other reviews. You don't buy a DVD to just hear the theme song. You buy it for it's content (the show itself). They didn't include the original theme because the creator of it wanted too much royalties to use it on the DVD. Anyway, the DVD contained 3 episodes, "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs (#93, where eleven stray dogs end up in the courthouse)," "High Noon in Mayberry (#80, where an ex-con comes to settle something with Andy)," and "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man (#87, where Aunt Bee gets drunk from 'medicine')." The bonus features are only interactive menus (on all DVDs) and scene access (also on all DVDs). But like I said before, you buy it for the show and nothing else. The running time is 75 mins, and it is formatted for worldwide use. The picture was great, and the Dolby 5.1 surround sound was awesome. Highly recommended.... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good? Ok. Great? No.
First of all, the famous theme song is NOT played at the beginning of each episode. They play some other music that doesn't fit. Also, on one of the episodes, part of it is cut out, so the end doesn't make sense. These are all good episodes, my favorite being The Big House. However, this probably isn't the best TAGS DVD you can buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mexico - - Take Me!!
This is the DVD I want Next Time.I can Remember Me on Saturday Nites during College in front of the tube watching Love Boat and Fantasy Island.I especially want to see the episode with Marion Ross and Andy Warholl.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE EXCITING AND NEW,COME ABOARD WE'RE EXPECTING YOU!!!
Hey I know this show would be considered hoakey by today's standards, but nowadays it doesn't hurt to indulge in a little guilty pleasure like the Love Boat. I truly enjoyed the show's simple formula, boy meets girl, they fall in love, and by the end of the cruise everything works out. Wouldn't it be great if real life worked out so easily. It's even more fun watching this show in reruns, because you get to look back at all the celebrities who boarded the Pacific Princess (some more than others) hint hint Charro! I also enjoyed the special two-part episodes, like when Julie had her high school reunion, the time when real life designers guest-starred and had a major fashion show, and when Hollywood Legends (Ginger Rogers,Ann Miller, and Carol Channing)appeared in a musical spectacular!!!
It would be nice to include an on camera reunion with the original cast and see how they are doing now. I remember A&E did a really good biography on the show and maybe they could include that on the dvd. Anyways, I hope it doesn't take the studios too long to realize there are still alot of Love Boat fans and release the series on dvd!!! ... Read more
