Ah, the sensitive male of the 1990s. He's nowhere to be found in this wan comedy about three divorced dads and the weekend each spends with his kids. It opens with the ritual of the divorced: mothers handing off kids to dads in neutral territory, the local McDonald's. Then the three buddies at the center of this film (Paul Reiser, Randy Quaid, and Matthew Modine) go their separate ways. Reiser is looking for a way to win his ex-wife back (and comes across as a hangdog drip); Modine is the group's womanizer who chases a variety of females, while seemingly ignoring his kid. Quaid has the film's only comedically fruitful role as the group's most cynical member who goes on the world's worst blind date with the hilariously off-the-wall Janeane Garofalo. Harmless, occasionally funny, but unremarkable. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie to just sit back and laugh
If you're an adult with a relationship of more than 12 months under your belt, you'll appreciate this movie. It's a borderline 'chick flick', but it's from a guy's point of view, so it's not too bad.

Used to watch this with a long-term girlfriend in the mid 90's and with buying the DVD I remember why we liked it so much. And why she's an ex-girlfriend.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for famlies with seperated parents
This is a movie that kids from seperated famlies will "get" and love.Boys and girls.A family movie for the not so "normal" family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Touching, Love Randy Quaid and Jeanine G.
So glad this movie is out on DVD - it's got all the little warm fuzzies, funnies and poignancy that I love about a movie.Randy Quaid and Jeanine Garafalo are great..they are so funny together! This is definitely a cute movie that I'll enjoy watching over and over again.

4-0 out of 5 stars The DVD has no closed captions or English subtitles
The Anchor Bay DVD has no closed captions or English subtitles. If you need them, you're out of luck. Too bad; it's a fun movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little known comedy.. dated but very entertaining
I came across this VHS sometime ago and bought it hoping to find an Odd Couple pairing of Paul Reiser and Randy Quaid.I got so much more. This is a hilarious look at fathers and how they struggle to survive after becoming single with children. The movie is incredibly funny and the Jeanenne Garafalo/Randy Quaid date is worth the rental fee itself. The movie is slanted from the perspective of the father but is definitely a romantic comedy that all will enjoy.I have been waiting for this to come out on DVD for some time and will definitely do a release date purchase. ... Not even the executives at Disney could have predicted the runaway success of this live-action movie inspired by Jay Ward's goofy 1960s cartoon character. Not only did George make a killing at the box office, but Disney's marketing wizards turned it into one of their best-selling videos. It's hard to begrudge the movie's success, even if this is the kind of mindless entertainment that caters to the lowest common denominator. In any case, it's obvious that kids love this movie, in which the idiotic George (Brendan Fraser) repeatedly swings into trees and attracts the attention of a lovely jungle explorer (Leslie Mann) who decides to call off her engagement to a wealthy snob (Thomas Hayden Church) in favor of the vine-swinging hunk with an elephant named Shep (that thinks it's a dog) and an ape named Ape (with a proper Brit voice provided by John Cleese). Filled with slapstick gags and some funny special effects, the movie can be a bit of a trial for adults, but it's a hilarious treat for its intended audience. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A review from Mr. Entertainment Lover
Hee Hee Hee.... What a silly movie! Yes it's dumb and stupid! Still that's what makes it so funny. I have it in my video collection to watch on a day I'm bored. In this film George falls in love with a beautiful women named Ursala. However her nasty mother and her mean boyfriend won't allow it. From then on it's madness and comedy that will keep you laughing. John Cleese does an excellent job as an ape named Ape and Bredon Frasier is good as the bumbling George. This is a movie for the whole family!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for a kid flick...The Review...
Well, first off I would like to "admit", the first viewing of this film did not go over well with my friend and myself. I thought it was boring and just plain dumb. It lacked something I like to call, PLOT! Well, those times have changed and I have sort of soled-out! Just kidding, it is better than before, though weak in thought. I first saw the film when it was on television and now I rented it on DVD.

The movie stars Brendan Fraser who plays the title role, George of the Jungle. He is not really musculer but I guess neither was the original character. This film is like Dudley Do Right, but this is MUCH, MUCH better! If you are stuck having to pick which of the two to watch, see this w-a-y before you see Dudley Do Right. The film is about George of the Jungle, he looks for love in a girl named Ursilla, a woman from America and George just can not understand why he starts having all of these feelings for another person. His mate. John Clease does an OK job of playing the voice for the character An Ape Named Ape. Ape is George's mentor and guide through his life until he leaves the "Heart of the Jungle."

This is an over all good film, GREAT for kids. If I was a little youger when this film came out, I would of loved it. If you liked this movie I would suggest the following movies, Dudley Do Right also starring Brendan Fraser, 101 Dalamations both the original and the remake and a host of others.

Hoped I helped, Have a good one!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is so stupid you have to buy it
If you have labeled movie shelves at home, you'll have to cut this DVD into thirds. One 3rd would go in stupid, another in funny and another in classics. This movie is so stupid its funny and its extreme stupidity makes it a classic! Ha! Ha!

4-0 out of 5 stars So stupid it's funny.
George, who I'm assuming was raised by apes, is the king of the jungle (lol, NOT). Somehow he manages to meet Ursula, who has a wierdo for a fiance, and George falls in love with her. She takes him back to the city and he does all kind of wild stuff.

Meanwhile, two poachers in the jungle run across Ape the talking ape and manage to capture him. So this brings George and Ursula back to the jungle so George can save his best friend.

So stupid that it's hilarious, but I'm sorry, I can never take Brenden Fraser seriously again.

5-0 out of 5 stars where is the widescreen version???
I love this movie - the wit is funny, the sight gags are funny and the characters are endearing - very hard to do when you are creating a movie from cartoon characters. But where is the widescreen version?? The whole reason for buying a DVD is having the chance to see the movie as it was originally envisioned. If I want to watch full frame, I'll watch television. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ducks are back and tougher than ever!
D2: The Mighty Ducks reunites most of the cast members and some of the members (in the first movie) are missing like Hans and Charlie's mother. Gordon Bombay who coached Discrut 5 in the first movie (and chagned the name to Ducks) is now playing minor league hockey. Until one player gets in the boards and another player sends him down on the ice injuring his knee. So he heads back to his hometown and reunites with one Duck. And the player is Charlie (Joshua Jackson). But then this man named Tibbs (Michael Tucker) who works for Hendrix shows up and hires Gordon Bombay to coach Team USA in the goodwill games. And the team is the ducks memebers. And some new members are add to Team USA. The new players are Luis (Mike Vitar) who needs to learn how to stop skating, Dwayne (Ty O'Neal), Julie "The Cat" Daphne (Colomine Jacobson), Ken (Justin Wong) and Hormnes. Also know as Dean Portman (Aaron Lohr).

4-0 out of 5 stars The Ducks Have Returned.....
The Mighty Ducks was a great movie put out by Disney, and this, the sequel, is no exception. D2 picks up a year after their initial season. In this movie, The Ducks are chosen to represent the USA at the Junior Goodwill Games. In been selected, the team must face off against the best that the world has to offer, and at the same time show the world what they have to offer. In the process of the tournament the Ducks face many challenges that need to be overcome and actually learn what it takes to be a team; all thanks to some "school-yard puck" masters. Typical Duck hyjinks are present throughout the flick, and it was nice to see a lot of the original cast again, from Coach Bombay to Charlie, and of course Goldberg. This movie is a nice family feature that a person of any age would enjoy. If you love hockey, this movie is a great watch, and if you're up for a great watch, this movie is for you. Just remember to watch out for "The Flying V."

5-0 out of 5 stars american film classic
this movie rules cause it reminds me of my fun childhood where i did nothing but eat mcdonalds and watch disney movies like this. i like when they goto LA and they meet the new crew of badass 14 year old hockey players. and that one kid gets a friend and mr. bigglesworth ahhaha calls them the smash brothers. the icelands guys are scary but the assistant coach is hot. thats why gordon bombay AKA emilio estevez went to eat ice cream with her but the smash brothers saw him and they got mad. she was like greenland is full of ice and iceland is very nice. thats her line in the whole damn movie.
i like the cowboy kid from texas who has the rope on a DAMN HOCKEY RINK for some reason. and he doesnt know how to say rodeo drive in beverly hills. and then golberg says he's tori spellings cousin so he goes into this expensive store and gets all the models to wear clothes for him cause he says its for his mother. but then he says how about bikinis and the lady throws them out.
charlie is a downer in this movie. not like d1 where hes this cool kid, or liek in d3 where he meets the girl at his new school and hes like i love pizza and Slayer (yes the metal band) and i dont smoke. o my god thats so annoying give me more golberg scenes.
best part though is when team USA plays the ghetto kid from good burger and kenan n kel. and the goals are trash cans and they play on top of a building. i had no idea ghetto LA had a street hockey scene. and they he shows them the knuckle puck and all the team USA kids are like 'no way man!' and then some team USA kid tells kenan's bro that kenan has a big mouth and he looks at him and hes like 'ya he does have a big mouth doesnt he'.
this movie is a classic. i loved and still love every minute of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Movie!
I never saw the first movie but I saw this sequel with my nephews when I was babysitting them when my sister and her husband went out. I didn't think I was going to like this movie but I wound up liking it and thinking it was a cute and enjoyable with with good acting from Emilio Estevez and the rest of the cast and I recommend this movie to fans of cute family movies and hockey movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE!
I love this movie! For all us girls there are hot guys in it. Well anyway, if you like hockey buy this movie and you won't be dissapinted! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, as in Ahwesome
Martin Lawrence strikes gold in this brilliant comedy. This movie only proves the idea from three wise men (W, G, and J) have been saying for a month, that Martin Lawrence is probably in the top five funniest people to ever live. The way he dances and says the phrase, "ahhhhhhhh" is just to funny for words. Danny DeVito teaming up with Martin was also pure goodness. If anyone disaggrees with my review I just have to say grow up because it is year 2002, its about laughs not cries so its good. Peace Out and buy Black Night on DVD, April 16th 2002.

3-0 out of 5 stars AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IT ITSELF POSES.
Starts out with good timing, and some decent laughable banter from Martin Lawrence. Nothing laugh out loud funny but pleasantly amusing schtick. The central premise is actually quite interesting (billionaire stealing a ring from a petty robber etc), but the film fails to take advantage of it, choosing instead to lapse into numerous plot-holes, cliches and mind-bending stupidity. There's even a gay, dog-loving detective who adds fart humor to the mix. And all this leads to a climax that takes a quantum leap of logic and rationality. Perhaps a worthy rental if you're into slapstick, but overall a skippable fare.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby
Not the Best movie, but worth seeing. if your looking for a movie to make you laugh alot than thi isn't it. But its alot better than some other movie out there so just give it a chance

1-0 out of 5 stars Formula Martin Lawrence comedy
Film students, listen up: the formula for a typical Martin Lawrence film goes something like this. Find a comedy script and remove anything that smacks of cleverness and genuine humor - we don't want to upstage Lawrence's own 'natural ability' to provide laughs simply by showing up and looking cross-eyed into the camera. Add to the cast a sexy black woman/love interest who in real life wouldn't give Lawrenece himself or the character he's playing the time of day. Create lots of scenes that defy any semblance of reality and let Lawrence mug his way through with half-assed imitations of Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and just about any other black comedian you can mention.

Speaking of which, I can't imagine Bernie Mac actually found this script funny enough to make an appearance. Believe me, you won't either. Everyone's obviously in it for an easy paycheck. Do yourself a favor and don't encourage them any further.

2-0 out of 5 stars A dud
This lackluster comedy simply fails to deliver sufficient laughs per hour to justify spending the time to watch it. Martin Lawrence, who is normally a funny guy, just isn't on his game in this flick. Danny DeVito is better, but the material doesn't give him much with which to work.

There is a lot of talent wasted on stereotype bits that are more insulting than comical. William Fichtner's flamingly effeminate detective would only be funny to homophobes. John Leguizamo's Arab imitation is less humorous now than it might have been before September 11.

The only really funny bit in the film is a strictly visual gag by Stephanie Clayman as the sign language interpreter. Without virtue of a solitary line of dialogue, she single handedly produces all the most hilarious moments in the film.

This film is a dud. I rated it 3/10. Martin Lawrence fans are likely to be disappointed. ... Read more
