3-0 out of 5 stars Dragonballz 1-3
These dvds are ok.l the later dbz movies are much better, 5-10.

there are no super saiyans. they all take place after vegeta and nappa, but before nameck. over all, they get 3 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars this is joey now using aol!
These movies got old. Now that GT is out nobody cares about these. Personally I like Lord Slug when Goku goes 1/2 super saiyan but that's a different boxed set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dragonball Z - The first three movies
[I rate this three and a half stars, actually]

Basically, this is a collection of the first three Dragonball Z movies, on DVDs. For those of you who don't know, alongside the standard Dragonball Z series, 13 movies, 2 specials, and 1 OVA/OAV were released. Most of these were strictly for entertainment, as there is no way most of them could possibly have taken place. Also, none of them are very long (they are about the same length as 2-3 standard episodes.) Read on for summaries of each, and my opinions.

MOVIE ONE - DEAD ZONE

This movie occurs before Dragonball Z begins, probably a year before Raditz arrived.

Here's the basic story. A power-hungry demon named Garlic Jr. is the son of a demon who attempted to become guardian of the earth, but the current guardian did not allow it. To get revenge on the world, he obtains the Dragonballs and makes himself immortal (since Gohan was wearing his Dragonball hat at this time, henchmen kidnapped him.) This is the ONLY time in all of Dragonball/Z/GT someone SUCCESSFULLY makes an immortality wish. Goku goes to Garlic Jr's castle with the hopes of rescuing his son, while his worst enemy (at the time,) Piccolo, is also going to the castle to get revenge on the henchmen that attacked him.

This film could never have taken place, because the Z-crew already knows Gohan here, but they meet him for the first time in the Raditz saga. Likewise, Goku was surprised to see Gohan's hidden power in the Raditz saga, despite the fact that he uses it in this film. Because the film could never have happened, the Garlic Jr. saga of the actual series could also never have happened.

MOVIE TWO - THE WORLD'S STRONGEST

This movie occurs shortly after the battle with Nappa and Vegeta, but before the crew goes to Namek.

Here's the basic story. Fifty years ago, a brilliant scientist was killed in an avalanche. However, his brain was implanted into a cyborg body by his robotic assistant so that he would never die. Their laboratory was covered by ice and snow in an avalanche. Finally, the present day arrives. Kochin (the assistant) uses the Dragonballs to free the lab from the icy prison. During a recent expedition to this area, Piccolo vanished. Gohan returns to see if he can find out what happened to his friend. Also, Master Roshi is taken to the lab (because their data is outdated, it still says he is the world's strongest man.) Bulma is also kidnapped, and an all-out war against these villains begins.

This film could never have occured. After the Saiyan Saga but before the Namek Saga is the only time it could have happened, but Piccolo is alive, so that completely voids the film. Likewise, there was not an intreval of this long between the two sagas.

MOVIE THREE - THE TREE OF MIGHT

This film takes place exactly when Movie Two would have.

A mysterious group of space villains plants a seed on Earth. This causes the growth of a huge tree that drains the life force from the planet, all for a few pieces of fruit. When Turless (a Saiyan who looks just like Goku), the leader of these bad guys, eats a piece of it, his power will become unrealistically high. The Z Fighters set out to stop those who have begun creating havoc on the earth. Also, this film introduces Icarus/Haiya Dragon, who appears in the Garlic Jr. Saga, the infamous "driver's licenses" episodes, and movies 4 and 5.

This film could never have happened because Piccolo, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha - all of whom died in the Saiyan Saga - are alive and well here. Likewise, Turless is a Saiyan - The only surviving Saiyans in the universe are Goku and Vegeta (who doesn't appear in this film.) The fact that Turless looks just like Goku only adds to confusion (there are a ton of conflicting reasons for this.) Likewise, this film, which NEVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED, introduces Icarus/Haiya Dragon. Accordingly, anything else that Icarus/Haiya Dragon appears in automatically never occured.

There you have it - the first three Dragonball Z films. These were done by Pioneer, so the English dub actors are different than the ones you hear in the later TV episodes. Likewise, these DVDs have more extras than the modern DBZ DVDs, but not much. These films are good overall, but for the most part only die-hard Dragonball Z fans will get a kick out of them. I would actually consider holding off on buying these - they will be redubbed and released soon - hopefully with more extras. I hope you enjoyed this review. If you did, please click the "YES" button below.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragonball Z-Movie Boxed Set 1
These 3 movies are some of my favorite movies I have ever seen! My favorite out of the three is The Tree of Might which is about a bunch a of warriors go to earth and plant a seed that makes a huge tree that sucks the energy out of the earth and makes a fruit that makes you very strong. But all in all they are all awesome because all the Dragonball series are my favorite animes of all time if you don't know then DB, DBZ, and DBGT.ANIME FOREVER!

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THESE MOVIES!!!
If you are new to Dragon Ball Z movies you should get these movies, they are good if you've just started collecting DBZ movies. The reason why the first movie is so great is because in the cartoon it leaves out how Garlic Jr ended up in the Deadzone. And in the second one you never would've guest it yep Son-Goku has a twin brother called Turles. And the third movie is a bit weird but it's still pretty cool. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars EVEN EXPOSURE GETS BORING
You know, I keep hearing that Go Nagai is this manga/anime legend. After viewing Cutey Honey and looking at the character designs and reading reviews of his other works, I'm not impressed. To me, it would be like saying Tiny Tim was a pioneer of rock music. It just doesn't add up. The first volume of this collection was fair, but the second disk became unwatchable fast.

The world of Cutey Honey is a strange place, looking like something from Hell basically. Cosplay City, where the action takes place is a gloomy, sunless, place where you would expect to find Lucifer. We do find his equivalent in the uni-brow demon crime lord Dolmek. The city is overrun with crime, even the parents of the preadolescent Chokkei, are involved in the crime wave. The new mayor is trying to change things but even he can't rid the city of crime alone. That's where Cutey Honey comes in.

Cutey Honey is a well-endowed female android whose powers allow her to shapeshift to defeat the evil person of the week. She also has an attraction to Chokkei which borders on the illegal.
In the end she always transforms into a beautiful red-headed warrior with a sword, but before she does that she catalogs all of her guises she used in the episode before she kills her enemy. To transform she has to yell "Honey Flash!" This is a good pun because all her clothes dissolve off her body and she is stark naked as she changes. Her enemies are usually human in appearance until she begins to fight them and then they shoot up something from a syringe and they transform into a demon.

The first disk ends in a confrontation with Dolmek in which the ship she is fighting him on blows up as Chokkei looks on helplessly. Is Cutey Honey dead? Did she win? Did she escape?
Who knows?

When you put in volume 2, unexplainably you are on a different world. The characters are basically the same, except Chokkei looks about 17 or so now and Cutey Honey is asking him about sex. The city has the same name and mayor but it has transformed into a modern looking city with skyscrapers and such. Without any explanation, we have dimensionally shifted to a world completely different than the first volume. This is where my attention span dropped off. It was too disorienting to me. I mean, 2001: A Space Odyssey made more sense to me.

The series was interesting at first but the battles all ended the same way. It followed an unalterable formula. The abrupt change with no explanation on the second disk destroyed any enjoyment. I didn't even finish watching after the 2nd episode on Volume 2.

There are tons of extras if you're a Honey fan. Especially amusing were the sections showing these 3 Japanese actresses portraying characters from the series at press conferences and anime festivals. At one point, they are singing the theme song, and they are the most horribly choreographed 3 people I have ever seen. They can hardly even keep a beat, and their moves are so slow, you can tell they didn't get much rehearsal time. when they act out a fight scene from the show, it looks like William Shatner and Dolemite had a hand in the stunts. There are interviews, trailers, phone messages, and a recording session of the theme song. If you really like Cutey Honey, you'll love this collection. If you're not a fan, I would recommend you not waste your money on these dvds.

For better fan serviced action that actually is of good quality, I would recommend Najica Blitz Tactics on Dvd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This is a great movie. This is a must buy DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greats!
This series and Project A-Ko were what got me interested in anime years ago, and I was thrilled to see this come out on DVD. A very entertaining yet brief (8 episodes) show, that was great if you are a fan of superheroes. Not an overly serious show, but great character designs, artwork, lots of laughs and fan service type nudity, mixed with great action in a villain of the week style format. The only complaint I had was that it seemed as if the 2nd half of the first DVD seems like the climax finale to the series, and in fact was the best 2 episodes. The 2nd DVD just felt like filler episodes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Anime By Master Go Nagai
Go Nagai is one of the best animator's alive, and Cutey Honey is one of his most fun series to watch. Honey is a beautiful android who is able to change into many forms. She reminds me of Naomi Armitage in that she feels very deeply for other humans. Her nemesis is Dolmeck, ruler of the dark world. He controls various demonic creatures that pose as normal humans, and Honey must battle these demons in pretty much every episode. Beautifully done, with a great sense of humor. If you enjoy Cutey Honey, then check out Kekko Kamen or Hanappe Bazooka. If you want more serious anime, then buy the Devilman DVD! He is also responsible for Mazinger and Getter Robo, for you fans of Robotech, Macross and Gundam. I would highly recommend getting as many of his videos and DVDs as possible. They are all very different and unique with great storytelling and animation!!

2-0 out of 5 stars the extras are the only good things.
The DVD version of the frequently-transforming android's adventures is chock-full of extras, like a press conference, crazy interviews, a live-action Cutey Honey performance, phone messages, and a design portfolio. While those are pretty cool, the series itself is boring .... It looks as though ADV wanted to emphasize that New Cutey Honey is for older audiences, so they took the liberty of adding as much unnecessary cussing as they possibly could to the dub and even the subtitles. ...

The storyline is pretty weak- you have an android named Cutey Honey that can transform into any type of person (a samurai, gymnast, wrestler, ninja, etc.) and use their abilities in the situations that they are needed. Each episode features a villain doing something evil, so Cutey Honey is dispatched and fights the bad guy in a very dull and predictable fight scene. The DVD extras are actually more interesting than the anime itself, which isn't a great thing, you know. Stay away from this unless you're a big fan of the 70's TV series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Performing a Much-Needed Duty in the City of Amnesia
If you were at all familiar with Cartoon Network's Toonami block or its late night Adult Swim in the past few years, it's likely that you have at least heard of The Big O. This Japanese anime series flopped in Japan but was quite well recieved stateside. So after its first 13 episode edited run on Toonami a few years back, fans were left hungry for more, and the cliffhanger ending didn't help either. Enter Cartoon Network Japan. U.S. fan response was so great that the cable network entered into a co-production deal with Sunrise Inc and Bandai visual. So now Big O has returned for a second uncut run on Adult Swim, in addition, the new season is airing Sundays at 11 pm starting August 3rd.

This DVD set is a compilatiion of all 13 first-season episodes, which was brought fourth due the show's new beginning. Big O tells the story of Roger Smith, also known as "The Negotiator." He lives in a large mansion accompanied by his butler Norman, who aids not only in housekeeping, but also in keeping Roger prepared for action. He resides in the mysterious Paradigm City, a city where all of its citizens lost their memories 40 years ago. In addition to being Paradigm's best negotiator, he is the owner of the Big O, a gigantic robot, which he uses the protect the city from various threats. However, through his adventures, Roger is digging ever deeper into Paradigm's dark history.

The Big O is a stylish show which mixes noir style and mecha action, with a Batman-like hero all while presenting a mystery into human existance that resembles the Matrix in some ways. The Big O has a visual style that is more American in nature, but is well animated. The voice acting is excellent, coming from the people who dubbed Cowboy Bebop. The music is good, accompanying the noir slyle and action scenes well. The mech fight scenes are not particularly amazing, but they still manage to excite you and hold interest well. Big O is a modern work of art that will interest you to no end with an exciting story and style to match.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big O = Big Robots + Great Story
Every one in Paradigm city lost their memories. Some try to let the past go, but others try to fight for answers. Roger, the negotiator, along with his Mega Deus, Big O, try to find the answers to the lost memories of paradigm without destroying the future. The setting of this series is unknown making it even more of a mystery. Overall this series has accomplished both an excellent story and one of the best robot action animes ever created. This is an anime that will make you think and the action will have you on the edge of your seat.

This is a highly recommended anime that is a great addition to your collection. If you want a preview check the listings on Cartoon Network.
This is recommended for a more mature audience, not because of content but because of the overall story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Part Batman, Part Bond, Part Giant City-Smashing Robot...
That quote from the previews on Cartoon Network pretty much sums it up, but really there's much more to it than that. Whereas other cartoon shows and anime have explored the whole futuristic film-noir thing before, The Big O is absolutely DRENCHED in film-noir atmosphere. And the similarities to Batman are quite understandable, as this show is brought to you by some of the same people who created Batman Beyond. Unfortunately, some of the weaknesses of that show carry over as well. Some episodes have a tendancy to just be an excuse for Rodger to fight yet ANOTHER enemy with his giant robot (much as some episodes of Batman Beyond were just another excuse for Batman to fight yet ANOTHER monster). In my opinion, the best episodes are the ones that focus more on the characters and their development, with less emphasis on fights.

One episode in particular is my favorite episode of any television show I have yet seen. In the episode "Winter Night Phantom", one of the side-characters of the show finds that a spree of mad bombings he is investigating has some strange link to a reoccurring dream he has (one which shows the final scene from a movie where the two characters remind him of himself, and someone else that keeps seeing) , and as he comes closer to catching the person involved, he finds that his memories may indeed be predicting or causing his own future. That episode can be taken completely on it's own (almost like a short film) and carries out it's concept so flawlessly that it leaves me awestruck every time I see it.

Most people who watch this show for more than a few minutes cannot help but be taken in by it. The reasons why should be obvious. There is the aforementioned film-noir atmosphere, gorgeous artwork, and some VERY snappy dialogue. More than that, the English voice actors really pour their heart and soul into this one (with the voice actors who portray Roger Smith and Dorothy being truly sublime). The music suits the atmosphere and mood perfectly, and really gets you into the drama. Sadly though, the music is reused over and over (and Roger's introductory comments at the beginning of each episode are quite similar as well). Some people might think of this as a weakness, but personally I like the way that each and every episode is self-contained and self-explanatory, while still building on previous episode subtly.

The action sequences in this show don't disappoint, and are all done with a slick sense of style. There is some comedy in this show, but it's often subtle, building on the characters and their behaviors.

The plot to this show is frustrating to some and deeply involving to others. Those going into the show expecting to get answers to all their questions are in for disappointment, while those who like a show that raises more questions as it goes along will probably get into this one.

At the end of the day, this show is about a few things more than anything else. It's about great characters, a cool story, and style, style, style. Heck, after I got into this show, I bought a black suit just so I'd look more like Rodger. If you love classic anime, give this one a try. "It's show time!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Full of mystery and suspense
I think "The Big O" is one of the best animes ever made. It has this sleek look to the art and everything is just so clean and smooth. Just by watching the anime, you are brought to a different world where things are always perfect. The music is also great in that it is expertly placed at the right moments for giving just the right feel. It also offers ear-appealing soundtracks throughout the episodes. Overall, I really like this anime because it presents an interesting alternate world and makes me ponder about if a place like Paradigm City could ever actually exist. Personally, I admire the protagonist Roger Smith for his style. Take a look at this anime and you won't regret it. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Have Come to Terms
I absolutely LOVE this anime! There is something intriguing about the story line that makes it impossible not to watch. Roger Smith is a (very fine) negotiator that searches for answers to Paradigm City's loss of memories from 40 years prior. 'Big O' contains some awesome battle scenes with huge Medadeus robots. But with all of this action, I am always in suspense in each episode to see if Dorothy (a pretty android Roger has chose to look after) and Roger will ever let their feelings for one another show. I HIGHLY recommend 'Big O' for anyone who loves action and suspense with a good plot. ... Read more

This early anime series that helped introduce the genre to the United States in the mid-1980s is a curious hybrid. Harmony Gold bought the rights to the 36-episode Super Dimension Fortress: Macross, in which an alien invasion was held at bay by the voice of a girl pop star, but executives felt that American viewers wouldn't accept that plot. Producer-story editor Carl Macek intercut sequences from Macross with two similar-looking sci-fi series from Tatsunoko Studios, Genesis Climber Mospeada and Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, creating a sprawling 85-episode space opera with a completely new story line. A gigantic spaceship crashes into the Earth in 1999; after 10 years of analysis and repairs, the Earth forces relaunch the gargantuan flying fortress--just as the 50-foot alien Zentraedi attack hoping to capture it--precipitating an interstellar war. In addition to two discs (12 episodes) of the Macross adventure, this first collection includes the first video release of Codename: Robotech. Made to promote interest in the series before its debut, Codename consists of the first 13 episodes recut as a feature. Captain Gloval's reminiscences about the characters' adventures ties together the rather choppy film. The supplemental disc also offers a commentary by Macek, describing the origins of the Robotech project and the making of the Codename feature; a portfolio of character model sheets; and selected scenes in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. A must-have for Robotech fans. Unrated; "contains mild animated violence." Suitable for ages 8 and up: violence is restricted to spaceship and robot battles. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars finally robotech has landed
Well it's been a long time coming but Robotech has finally come to us on DVD. I picked up the box set at media play for 40 bucks. It containts 3 DVD's 2 normals and 1 SE. I haven't had a chance to check out the special edition yet.

The set contains the first 12 episodes of robotech. The story line and characters are great. The animation is just what I would expect from a '80s t.v. show. Don't go expecting a Titan AE experience from this DVD. It's like they did an exact transfer from the Master VHS tapes. The quality is good and I couldn't notice any flicker or screen problems but I would have liked to have seen a revamped picture and possibly a transfer to anamorhic widescreen.

I had to change this review a little bit in regards to the sound. When i first played the set it was just on my regular tv since my Dolby Digital reciever was in for repair. I just assmued the whole thing was in stereo. But after looking at the DVD box itslef it says DD right on the back. So it looks like the series does support the DD sound as well.

So now I must give this box set the thumbs up all around!

5-0 out of 5 stars SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM...
With a stroke of success in the 80's, the Robotech: Macross series still has a place for many fans today and shares a strong cult following. Being a fan of the series as a kid, I decided to buy the whole Robotech: Macross series, but I came across the overwelming amount of editions to the series. I didn't know which to buy, so I watched them all. Here are the differences between to different boxsets (all offered through Amazon):

Robotech: the Complete Macross Series
One Boxset: 6 disc

Sells for around $60-$65
Nothing special, picture quality is not great, but bearable. Comes in one compact boxset with all the disc in it. Would not reccomend getting this edition unless you just want a copy of the series and want to spend the least possible amount of money.

Robotech: The Legacy Collection: Macross Saga (Collections 1-3)
Three Boxsets: with 3 disc in each
Sells for around $40 each boxset, entire set around $120-$130
Same picture quality as the above set, but with addtional features. Comes with the most extras out of any current sets, but even then, they are so-so. I would actually recommend getting the above edition as I was not impressed with the extras, some were interesting, but it definately didn't justify the price. Your paying almost twice the price.

Robotech Remastered: The Macross Saga (Volumes 1-3)
Three Boxsets: Two disc each boxset
Sells for around $25 each boxset, entire set around $75-$80
Remastered picture quality superior to both sets above, sound quality much improved. This is the set that I would recommend. The price is affordable and well worth the extra money compared to the first set. Also includes a few bonus footage.

Macross: Super Dimensional Fortress (Sets 1-3)
Three Boxsets: Three discs each boxset
Sells for around $60-$70 each boxset, entire series around $180-200
Macross is the original Japanese series of the Robotech: Macross Saga. The storyline is slightly different with different music and sounds. When it was brought to the US, Harmony Gold added the Macross material with two other Japanese series to make Robotech. Macross is more "mature" and includes several scenes taken out of Robotech. Picture quality is even more crisp than the Remastered Series. I would reccomend only to die-hard Robotech fans. It's pretty expensive and lacks really any real extra features.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved it
What can I say I love robotech and I love the boxset format with a seperate extras dvd. this is one sexy box set. This is what BOTP should have done.

1-0 out of 5 stars A true Macross fan? Don't bother. A robotech fan? Sure.
Originally I had high hopes for this set, after all they used the name Macross on the title. However after popping the DVD in I was severely disappointed. Not only is the childish dubbing still present, it is also the cut, convulated American version. You see "Robotech" is a whole bunch of Macross sagas tied together for America messing up alot of the story line.
If you are interested in the original and pure version you are better off buying the AnimEigo versions, they don't have any special features but it is the true vision of Macross.

5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of a legend
Robotech is a series I missed back in the '80s (as it aired against some of my existing favorite shows on Saturday mornings), but watching this disc, I can easily understand what the "fuss" has been about. While definitely a product of the '80s (note the titles and a few obvious moments of obvious visual and dialogue editing for US audiences), the series has definite depth, and a cohesive storyline that was previously impossible for American cartoons (thanks to problems with airing orders and general meddling from the Big Three TV networks). The narration is concise and, when needed, quite extensive, which helps ease the neophyte viewer into the show while in no way harming the style of the series.

One negative point is that the video isn't restored. Of course, given the nature of this series (a heavily edited and re-edited showing of three very different television shows), I'm not surprised. However, the video is at the same level as the original broadcasts (which unfortunately speaks ill of how TV shows were broadcast in the days before cable was in most of our homes), and everything is included (even commercial bumpers, recaps, and previews). The special features disc is equally loaded, with a special premeire movie (and commentary by Carl Macek, who is for all intents the "creator" of Robotech) and a series of character model sheets.

While certainly dated, with its sometimes primitive animation and now-unimaginable dubbing policies, Robotech is an essential series for all cartoon fans, and (naturally) this set is the best place to start. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An artsy thirteen episode original
Reign the Conqueror is one of my all-time favorites. It's art style, story and music make it a good by for anime fans looking for something a little less repetitive and of a better quality than the avrage anime series. With original and interesting characters this short but content packed series is a great idea for people looking for something different, even withing anime. I recommend that you try this one out.

Yes, Reign has many, many inaccuracies. But isn't that to be expected, in a work of FICTION? Doesn't the box warn you that this is a 20th century Sci-Fi spin on the true story of Alexander the Great? And after all the research I've done since seeing this series, I can tell you most of the inaccuracies were interentional, and probably could not have been executed without knowing what actually did happen, and in great detail. I'm rather convinced that it is not intended to be an alltogether accurate interpretation of the story of Alexander.

I was originally drawn to this series because I love Peter Chung's art style, having been addicted to Aeon Flux during its run on MTV. I'm actually rather fond of the naked leg look. I'd like to point out that the characters are wearing cod pieces, not thongs. Also, keep in mind that in ancient Greece armor did show a lot of skin. And Alexander's (battle) armor looks plenty Greek to me, by the way. In fact, if this were an accurate adaption we'd be seeing a lot more man skin than we already are.

As I was doing research, I was amazed at how much of what was real and really happened was changed and apadted. Ever chracter in the series was based a real person, though their roles might have been changed. Even Cassandra, who wasn't a real person, was at least based on a real figure (one of Alexander's generals, Cassander, though he was not any relation to Aristotle). I quite frankly think that Alexander's personality could not be more accurately expressed. They did an encredible job portraying who he was, and what drove him. I also liked how they used his mother's very real claim that he was indeed of divine blood, that Zeus was his father, taking it one step further and turning it into a prophecy of destruction. And I think that was far cooler way from Philip to loose his eye than in some battle.

I'd like to mention, as well, that there was, indeed a Pythagorian cult. No, they weren't freaky supernatural assassins bent on destroying Alexander, but they did exist.

Frankly, I love this series, and am a bit disappointed to see no sign of an American release of the theatrical movie. I recommend this title, though not to the squeemish or immature. Latent (and historically accurate) homoerotic themes, violence (though not exceedingly gory), some "curtousy" breasts (I'm not explaining that term- those familiar with anime should know what it means), and a plot that adults can barely understand are just some of the "no kiddies" signs. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely spectacular!
I am a great admireror of Alexander the Great. I know much about his life- both history and lore. I, though, was not absolutely depressed about this anime. You could tell that Peter Chung did not try to make an anime about Alexander the Great, but an artistic expression based on Alexander the Great. ONe thing that often ticks me is when someone trys to make something exactly based on a historical figure, and they end up ignoring history anyways. But Reign was awesome! It took Alexander and put him in a different time and place. The art and creativity of the feature is spectacular. In a way, this anime continues a tradition with Alexander stories. Throughout history, Alexander was written about, but things were changed- facts, settings, times, events, appearances, and even race. This continues that.

4-0 out of 5 stars No history lesson from me!
If you want a history lesson on Alexander the Great, Masedonia, the Greek empire, etc. don't watch this anime. Read a book. However, if you want to watch an interesting anime about a real life person, with a new take on the people, places and events in his life, then Reign is for you! I really like this anime, even though I already had some knowledge about Alexander the Great and knew that a lot of what was going on in the series was incorrect. It didn't bother me that things were changed. (That's simply the case in anime. And people deal with it. I mean, Cowboy Bebop's authors didn't have the theories involved in hyperspace completely accurate, but you don't see anyone saying not to watch the series because the physics are wrong!) I really recommend this as an anime for any anime fan. Like I said though, don't go looking for a history lesson here. Just sit back and enjoy it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Bloated and boring, Greek style.
Goodness, what is up in Peter Chung's head? He tends to make his animated works as confusing as possible. Sure, I was too young to have seen his earlier work, 'Aeon Flux', but I have seen 'Matriculated' from the 'Animatrix' DVD, and let me tell you: it was a psychadelic, woozy, "get-high" experience that left me clueless when pondering about the whole point of the story. With "Reign the Conqueror", having Chung collaborated with some Japanese animation powerhouse to make one huge animated project, I don't understand about this one, either.

Here's something I do understand about "Reign." A King and a lustful, snake-fetished woman had a child born by the name of Alexander III, or Alexander the Great, and the woman predicted that her son will be king and rule all of the world. Fast forward to 20 years, and the older Alexander the Great is wiser and understands thoroughly on the art of strategy in warfare. After current events that lead him King of some country, he and his allies set forth to other countries to conquer and be recognize for Alexander's ambition, and to find his true destiny sameforth. At first, I though he was some fictonal being like Hercules, but after minor reference checking, Alexander the Great was actually a real person from the Before Christ era, and that his doing actually influence all greeks of today to see him as an inspiration to their country. If so, then why, in perspective on true events, are there big snakes, huge flying contraptions, visual predictions of a future, blade runner-related world, and such unbelieveable stuff that happened in Alexander's world? I don't get it. Maybe the company that made "Reign" wanted a more "retro"-spective version on Alexander's glorious life, but even so, I find the whole idea improbable.

The art on "Reign"...well, it really comes down to whether people likes this kind of style or not. For me, I like Chung's art style, and its there in this series. The way he makes the world like an average 80s comic book is cool, and the characters are interesting in a awkward kind of way, while at the same, having a "keen" fashion sense. If I WERE against the style, I would say the characters are very, very "Klasky Csupo" ugly, and even the most prettiest woman of the series, I doubt many boys would go ga-ga over her, even if she's in full frontial nudity. The audio (voice acting, music, sound effects) is good, too, but curiously, why did Tokyopop suddenly decided to replace the entire cast with different people on the second half of the series?

As said, this anime is improbable, and worse, it's slow. I thought watching 'Crest of the Stars' was slow, but this anime is Slow with a capital 'S'. There are some standing action scenes in this title, but there's a lot of discussions that can get on my nerves. I don't mind verbal discussions that deal with planning, development, or ideals on the characters, current battles, or approaching future events, as long as it is balanced to any entertainment like action, but here, there's too much verbal discussions going on, and it becomes a total drag afterwards. Another drag is the amount of name-forgetful characters introduced too soon in this series; I had a hard time keeping up with at least three sub-characters in this series.

Going through this nail-biting, lingering pacing of "Reign", I expect some compensation through this patience ordeal, and sadly, it didn't deliver. An anime that's based on a famous conqueror and adding that with the surreal and supernatural, while contributing philosophies may sound cool by first thought, but looking at this, there's too much stuff going on in this series, and in the end, I find it irrelevant and just plain disposable.

Sorry, Alex, I rather stay out of this long session of Greek History 101! ... Read more

When Samurai Jack burst onto the small screen in 2001, it introduced a boldly imaginative visual style to the often dreary realm of television animation. Other series have tried to imitate the flattened, angular graphics pioneered by the UPA studio during early '50s. Samurai Jack succeeds in recapturing the essence of the UPA shorts because creator Genndy Tartakovsky and his artists understand that these highly stylized visuals require equally stylized movements.

The ongoing battle between heroic Jack and the evil shape-shifter Aku simultaneously evokes and spoofs the conventions of anime and Western live-action film. Long ago, Jack nearly destroyed Aku in a duel; in desperation, the wizard hurled the samurai far into the future, where Aku's word is law. Jack fights robots, monsters, bounty hunters, etc. as he seeks to return to his own time, so he can prevent Aku's rise to supremacy.

The writing is sometimes uneven, but even when the material feels weak, the visual imagination never falters, from the flamboyant character designs to the use of split-screen. The filmmakers stage the quiet moments as skillfully as the action sequences, and Samurai Jack offers more exciting storytelling than many big-budget animated features. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Animated Series of All Time
Samurai Jack is great because it combines fantastic writting with a somewhat unique, stylized look and feel. It's nice to see that Cartoon Network is beginning to release series such as Jack on DVD. I don't know will there be any special features but I can give you a basic synopsis of the episodes included. The set will probably skip the 2 hour movie (episode I-III) since that has already been release seperately. Here are the other episodes

IV-Jack, the Woolies, and the Chritchellites-Jack helps a group of supposedly savage beasts called "Woolies" who have been enslaved.
V-Jack in Space-Jack helps a group of scientists who want to escape into space.
VI-Jack and the Warrior Woman-Jack seeks a strange jewel in the desert, accompanied by a mysterious woman.
VII-Jack and the Three Blind Archers-Jack hears of a mysterious island which possess a well that can grant any one wish.
VIII-Jack vs. Mad Jack- Jack must face an evil version of himself.
IX-Jack Under the Sea-Jack seeks a race of amphibians living in an underwater city who have a time machine.
X-Jack and the Lava Monster-Jack is summoned by a Lava creature under the earth.
XI-Jack and the Scotsman-Jack makes a new freind.
XII-Jack and the Gangsters- Jack joins some gangsters.
XIII-Aku's Fairy Tales-Aku tries his hand at propoganda.
XIV-Jack Learns to 'Jump Good'-Jack befriends a group of high jumping creatures.
XV-Jack Tales- Three Tales of the Samurai.
XVI-Jack and the Smackback-Jack is forced to be a gladiator slave.
XVII-Jack and the Scotsman, Part 2-Jack and the Scotsman must rescue the Scotsman's wife.
XVIII-Jack and the Ultra-robots-Jack must fight a group of robots, each with a special weapon.
XIX-Jack Remembers the Past-Jack sadly remembers his childhood days.
XX-Jack and the Monks-Jack climbs the Mountain of Fatoom in search of truth.

In ALL cases... there is more to these episodes than the sum of there parts. Samurai Jack is probably one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerpuff Girls bite the dust!
This is quite possibly Craig McCrackens' best animated T.V. show to ever appear on the Cartoon Network. Unlike his other previous works, "Dexter's Laboratory" & Powerpuff Girls", I believe "Samurai Jack" had more effort put into it. The detail is astounding, the atmosphere is fun and imaginative, and the characters are very interesting. Also, there's no stupid, idiotic (not to mention sometimes ANNOYING!) humor involved in this compared to the crappy 'Dexter' & 'Powerpuffs'. Once you watch the incredible (sometimes computerized) non-stop action, you'll be drawn right in to the amazing world of Jack & friends! Oh, did I forget to mention there's also plenty of blood involved? GRADE A CARTOON MATERIAL FOR ALL AGES! Now, if they could just release the COMPLETE First Season of "Ed, Edd n Eddy" on DVD I'd be even more satisfied. I hope that the Cartoon Network and Danny are up to it though. That's another good show that never fails to be funny compared to some of the other REALLY lame shows on that network!

5-0 out of 5 stars Samurai Jack Lives
I couldn't stop watching this series when it came on. One wouldn't think an adult would like this but it's a great adult animation series. The characters are wonderful. I think only one or two at the most I didn't care for but I still enjoy them all. The animation is absolutely wonderful. I don't know why the second season isn't out on DVD yet and don't why Cartoon Network hasn't run a new series. I hope the producers don't let this character die off in pixel land.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stylish Quality
I absolutely love this show. Samurai Jack explodes with a level of style rarely seen. The action, animation and stories are all fantastic. This is an extremely well done TV series.

The character of Jack is an immensely charismatic hero. His courage, resourcefulness and ethical code serves as a breath of fresh air in today's sea of common, immoral TV characters. This samurai actually inspires me to better myself in the real world. Not many shows have that effect and even fewer cartoons do!

The only special features in this set I liked was getting to see what some of the voice actors looked like.

The chance to own the whole first season must not be missed by Samurai Jack fans. I await the next season on DVD eagerly. Highly recommended to anyone who is interested in the following: samurais, clever plots, style. ... Read more

Shuzo "Shu" Matsutani, a rambunctious adolescent kendo student, encounters a mysterious girl named Lala-Ru in an abandoned factory near his home. When she's captured by hostile mecha, Shu is taken with her to another world, to the unfortunately named fortress-ship Hellywood, ruled by the psychotic King Hamdo. The apparently ancient Lala-Ru can produce vast quantities of water, which Hamdo desires. Shu is imprisoned, beaten, and tortured before being inducted into Hamdo's army of child-soldiers. He doggedly insists that he must protect Lala-Ru, despite her great powers. They escape Hellywood, wander through the desert, and reach a pueblo-like village where they defeat Hamdo. The rambling storyline recalls both El Hazard and Escaflowne. What sets Now and Then apart is the gritty realism of the violence: unlike other anime characters, Shu seems to feel real pain when Hamdo's thugs beat him. Although the rape of the Earth girl Sara is suggested rather than depicted, she has to decide whether to keep or abort the child. These depictions of the brutality of war give Now and Then a grim power many better-written and better-animated series lack. The most interesting segment on the "bonus disc" juxtaposes the animated version of the final episode with the storyboards. "From Then to Now" includes clips from the audition tapes of the actors playing Hamdo (Jack Taylor) and Shu (a surprisingly burly Ed Paul) along with interviews and standard behind-the-scenes footage of the recording sessions. Rated 16 Up for considerable violence, minor profanity, adult themes. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent series that is very brutal and depressing
If you are expecting a mecha series based on the cover illustrations, you are going to be badly disappointed. If you are hankering for a serious and compelling anime series that will challenge you, "Now and Then, Here and There" (NTHT) is a very fine example. This series is a match with "Grave of the Fireflies" in its depressing story.

Briefly, this series covers the exploits of a 15 year old boy, Matsutani Shuzo or Shu, as he is pulled into the distant future when he attempts to rescue a girl, Lala-Ru, from a mechanized extraction force. In this distant future, Shu experiences some really tough ordeals as he continues his attempts to rescue the girl and return home. What Shu experiences is no match for what an American girl, Sara, who has been abducted from the same present that Shu exists and whom he meets, goes through in this series.

Through the course of NTHT, issues like child soldiers, torture, rape and its effects, the micro aspects of war, and even conservation are dealt with. No matter how tasteful some of these issues have been tackled in the series, the impact is no less brutal. You WILL flinch at some of the brutal stuff depicted in the series. Some scenes are absolutely gut wrenching.

NTHT has 13 episodes and none of them are fillers. Each episode follows on from the previous episode with no recaps. The pacing is very good with no significant let up in the story flow. From the first five episodes in the first disc, NTHT builds up the brutal and depressing world in a very unrelenting manner. The second and third discs then advances the series like an unstoppable train towards its cathartic ending. Watching all 13 episodes in a marathon session is not recommended unless you want to be emotionally drained at the end.

This is not an easy series to watch but you will be greatly rewarded when you finish it. For serious anime buffs, this series comes very highly recommended.

The box set is attractively priced and includes an additional disc filled with extras.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost wish I'd not watched this series...
Now wait, don't get the title wrong...I ENJOYED watching this series but it REALLY depressed me. It was probably some of the best anime I'd seen in a long time...nothing since Trigun or Cowboy Bebop has moved me quite so much. Heck, those are almost tame compared to this one (although Bebop and Trigun are still killer). I hardly ever have felt such anger, indignance, sadness or depression over a set of characters and a story. Only at times does Here And Now even have a moment you could deem 'heart-warming' and I think I laughed maybe once in the first ep. when Shu rammed his head into a pipe accidently. That's about it.

After meeting a mystical girl named La La Ru (nice name...ick), a goody-goody boy named Shu is transported into the hellish future of Earth. He is taken captive into the cruel empire of the tyrannical and totally nutty King Hamdo. There Shu faces a whole other plane of reality...one of utter cruelty and depravity. A place where kids are brought up as cannon fodder for King Hamdo's noble war effort to take over Earth. A place where they are taught to kill, follow orders to the T, and die for King Hamdo if necessary...A place where most females are seen as sex objects or only useful to bear more children for future soldiers (that incensed me the most).

Our main hero, Shu, is like a younger Vash the stampede...he hates killing and violence, his motto is "Things will get better...as long as we're alive, good things will happen". As chumpy as he may come across, he's the only ray of light in this series and the only beacon of hope for those he comes into contact with (Nabuco, Sara, Boo, etc.). He stays his optomistic self to the very end, despite the fact that he gets the brunt end of so much brutality (I just kept marveling at his strength every time he'd get beaten.) He's also somewhat unbelievable yet an amazingly good hero. He strives to rescue La La-Rue from Hamdo's grasp and puts up one of heck of fight to keep her away from the king because she plays a very important part as you will find out.

So many different other characters with such distinct personalities, you won't forget them. There's the childish and mad King Hamdo whom you will utterly deplore yet he will also amuse you from time to time by his kooky antics. His cold, unflinching right hand woman Abelia, who for some reason puts up with him. Nabuca and Boo, two soldiers who have been brainwashed for so long into killing for Hamdo but are changed after meeting Shu. The kind Sis of Zari Bars and her loving family. And probably the character that breaks my heart the most, Sara, an earth girl taken from Shu's time as well. Her
plight depressed me the most...

What can I say? I watched this series attentively...seldom did it ever get boring. In fact, I'm the kinda person who gets sucked into something if its good and really lets it get to me. That's what happened with Now and Here...and that tells me its a good anime. I recommend it whole-heartedly, but be warned it will most likely put you in a funk...I know it did me. Oh yeah, this ain't for kids...it shocked me at every turn (I'm 21).

I just bought the VHS tapes separately, but instead of reviewing all three apart, I thought I'd do them together because I think its a cohesive story on a whole.

Anime forever!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a powerful show.....................................
ok this show is powerful! I bought this collection cuz I read some reviews that it was sadder and more depressing then Grave of the Fireflies and some that said it was powerful but not as sad as Grave of the Fireflies. Now I have to say Grave of the fireflies is still the most saddest experience I ever had with watching anything in my life. Now and Then, Here and There is just powerful and depressing and it can be sad but not as sad as Grave of the Fireflies.

Now on to this review. Everyone but 3 of the main characters die. Mostly every1! I was surprised with how 2 of the characters surviving cuz I thought they would be the 2 ta die. The main character like usualy lives throughout it all. But Lala ru why did she just die off like that!? That was so sad! EVery1 died just died with a blink of the eye. Even lil kids like Boo and the girl kill each other. What a sad show. Now that I think bout it this show is evry sad but not as much as Grave of the Fireflies. I think nothin will top that. Buy this movie! Learn a lesson or 2 bout life and stick with Shu's omtimistic personality and you will go far in life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Now & Then, Here & There is a work of art
I have only been an anime fan for a few years. The first weries I bought was Robotech, then Neo Genesis Evangelis, and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. I have to say without a doubt that Now & Then, Here & There is the best of all these other series.
A boy (Shu) is transported from our world Japan to a desert wasteland where a psychotic military leader (King Hamdo) chases an immortal girl (La La Ru) that has the ability to store vast amounts of water in a crystal. He is tortured for countless hours as interogators ask him questions he does not know. Eventually escaping, he discovers that to raise the population of his Army King Hamdo kidnaps boys from villages and girls as well who are raped so that they will become pregnant.
This is not an anime for young viewers. It is dark and disturbing. The only part of it I did not like was the ending where Shu returns to our world Japan. After all he had been through, I figured he had found a new home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intense, powerful.
As the first episode of Now and Then, Here and There opens, we see Shu, the protagonist, dashing downstairs to eat breakfast, which he wolfs down with endless enthusiasm, until his sister tells him she's heard that he's going to ask a girl out if he wins the day's kendo match, at which point he sprays beans out of his mouth across the table at his father, who, without even looking up, lifts up the newspaper he's reading as a shield.

Soon after, he's sucked into another dimension where children are forcibly drafted into an army and forced by the deranged, Caligula-like King Hamdo to carry out genocidal raids on peaceful villages.

And that's what immediately strikes one about NaTHaT: Shu is an unapologetic, goofy, exaggerated ANIME character, yet he's juxtaposed with a relentlessly grim setting--something that I personally had never seen before; contrast it with Grave of the Fireflies, for instance, a similar work in some ways, except that the characters don't clash with the background, because they're a PART of it.

I fear that this sort of cartoonishness in such a dark show may confuse, baffle, and generally turn off a certain sort of person, and that is too bad, because NaTHaT is certainly the best anime I've seen recently. Shu's resilience notwithstanding, there are parts of the show which are simply hard to take. What a lot of reviews seem to gloss over is that it does have its quieter, happy moments, but these only go so far; NaTHaT is not a show that pulls its punches. It's not always fun, but it's necessary nonetheless, both as an unflinching study of lost innocence (the kidnapped children--one of whom appears to be around six years old--are quite a punch to the gut), and as a powerful anti-war allegory (sadly, more necessary than ever right now)--made all the more powerful by the fact that it's far from one-sided.

It doesn't matter whether or not you like 'anime' as a general concept; you should watch NaTHaT regardless. I saw it subtitled, but from a cursory check, the dubbing seems pretty good. Either way, it gets my seal of approval. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fumoffu! Forever
This anime series is a wonderful production featuring the characters from Full Metal Panic in a completely independent storyline. I recommend seeing this series even if you have never seen the original. The general idea of the show is Sosuke is works in a special operations branch that is currently interested in protecting Kaname. However, for all of Sosuke's training, his skills in warfare and gun use will not solve every social problem he encounters. This does not stop Sosuke in the least. Definately the best love comedy ever.

Furthermore, the authors of this Dvd's have included 2 of the unaired episodes in this dvd, but they have appeneded them to episodes 1 and 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars The hilarious side of FMP!
This show cracks me up. It is much more hilarious and lighter than the original Full Metal Panic series. If you are a FMP fan, you own it to yourself to get the FMP Fumoffu!

5-0 out of 5 stars must see for full metal panic fans
This series is a must see for fans of the original full metal panic series. If you enjoyed gundam wing, rurouni kenshi, great teacher onizuka or nadeisco then you will like this anime.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STUFF, beats the first on a funny level
This series is funny and even makes fun of other anime, volume makes fun of "You're Under Arrest", a poke at Indiana Jones (guy swings blade around, Sousuke just shoots him), bullet-time dodging, and brilliant use of military gear (episode 1, Ghillie Suit, for those of you who know what it is). I heard that this series had focused on the school comedy, and I thought it wouldn't be that great, as I enjoyed the first for it's combat, but I was wrong. Hilariously wrong. The directors chose the stories in the manga that used the explosives, running from police, grenade launchers, and Sousuke's favorite Glock 26.

Fumoffu, can actually be placed early in between in the original series, as both were taken from the manga. One focuses on the serious action plot, while fumoffu shows "daily" life in school. The directors wanted to focus on the comedic romance, rather than only the action (which made the first one convoluted as soon as they introduced the Lambda driver). I'd recommend both, and the manga itself, to see where it came from. This series has the destruction, comedy, but sadly no Armed Slave, but one funky lookin' mascot.

5-0 out of 5 stars After you see this series, you will ask for MORE...
I have seen both full metal panic and FMP fomoffu.Let me tell you this second season has nothing to do with the first series, but it has also A LOT of new stuff and if you like humor situations you won't like to miss this one.
Althougt i found this 15 episodes series too funny, i don't recomended for children, because it has some minor nudity and sexual situations. It is not hentai, but some people may find disturbing some of the scenes.
If you haven't seen full metal panic, what are you waiting for??, and if you already did, you won't like to miss this one.
Trust me!!.

PD.- This DVD obviosly doesn't have all 15 episodes.

3-0 out of 5 stars EL FINAL DE UNA SERIE UN POCO DIFICIL DE ACEPTA
EN ESTA SAGA FINAL.. LA SERIE ROBOTECH DA SU PUNTO FINAL, CON UN COMIENZO. NO QUIERO ADELANTAR NADA Y CONTAR EL FINAL DE ESTA SAGA.. PERO EN PARTICULAR PARA MI, ESPERABA UN POCO MAS EMOCION Y SINGULARIDAD EN EL FINAL.

LA TRAMA EN ESTA SAGA, ES MUY BUENA. DESPUES DE LA SAGA MACROSS, CONSIDERO QUE ESTA ESTA MEJOR QUE LA SAGA DE LOS MAESTROS.

EN ESTA SAGA VUELVEN LOS VERITECHS AHORA COMO ALPHAS, Y PODEMOS DISFRUTAR DE LAS MOTOCICLETAS CYCLONS, MUY BIEN ELABORADAS.

EL ENEMIGO. "INVID" UN POCO TONTO, PERO MORTAL.

ESTE DVD NO TIENE LEYENDAS EN ESPAÑOL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best of the three
It wraps the storyline of Robotech in a satysfying way and it has good character development as well as a good plot. I believe that people would probably wonder why didn't they strech the episodes to 36 like the Macross saga when there are so many things that can be said for the main characters. Even though the Macross saga is the classic one it sometimes gets tiring and repeats itself. However, the new generation moves smoothly not only in the robotech main's story but also in the characters' story. Add the coolest mecha in the whole series and you guess why this might be the best one of the trilogy.
One last thing I would like to mention is that this series was like a myth to me when I was 10-13 as I could only watch it in some foreign channels, while I didn't even understand the language well. The series never aired in the Greek channels. The magic about this anime is that now that I am 25 I enjoyed it even more and the magic still remains. It still gave me the chills when I heard the opening tune of Robotech.

5-0 out of 5 stars In a word? Sweet.
Being a relatively new Robotech fan, I was blown away by how good this series was when I first started watching. Especially considered how I've been spoiled by more rescent anime such as Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. The New Generation story is as simple as it gets. Big bad aliens attack and take over the Earth and humans are trying to take it back. But oh it's so much more than that. The action is still amazing even after fifteen years. It's fast, exciting and it still sets the bar for giant robot action. And I mean come on, it's got a motorcyle that turns into power armor! If any shred of childhood remains in you, you have to admit that's pretty dang awesome. Yes, I'll admit the dialoge is clunky and melodramatic, but heck, that's half the fun! In the end, Robotech is really a hyped up cross between Top Gun, Saved by the Bell, and Star Wars. Best of the Eighties all the way!

5-0 out of 5 stars Robotech Is Back Now!!
When I purchased this I had how many episodes comprised the "new generation" I was pleasantly surprised. I remember New Generation the 3rd chapter in the saga of Robotech as being one of my favorites next to the Macross Saga. Scott, Rand, Rook, Lance (or Lancer), Annie and that big Mexican looking dude that reminds me of Hunk of the Voltron series. They all struggle to get to Reflex Point to kick some Invid butt and their adventures are the stuff of nostalgia. I thought I would never see Robotech again after it went off the sci/fi channel but now it's back thanks to fans around the world. Robotech fans rejoice!

The first Inu-Yasha theatrical feature plays like an extended episode of the popular television series. Kagome, Inu-Yasha, Shippo, Miroku, and Sango are pitted not against Naraku, but against the moth-demon Menomaru, who was awakened by a falling shard from the enchanted Shikon Jewel. Menomaru seeks to recapture the power of his father Hyoga, who was defeated by Inu-Yasha's father when Hyoga came to Japan "from the continent" (i.e., during the Mongol invasion of 1274). Only the combined power of Kagome's arrows and Inu-Yasha's sword Tetsusaiga can defeat this mighty demon. Affections Touching Across Time is unusually handsome for a feature based on a broadcast series: When snow falls on Kagome's 20th-century home, the designers evoke the prints of Kawase Hasui. Unfortunately, the images have been compressed to fit the TV format, and there's no widescreen option. Still, it's a must-have for Inu-Yasha fans. 5-0 out of 5 stars Iny-yasha still fighting your daddy's battles!
This is great, yet another demon of inuyasha's fathers time. I've only seen it in japanese with english subtitles, but I'm gonna buy this copy as well. It will be so awsome to see it in english. it definatly takes place after inuyasha has learned to wield the new tetsusaiga. It displays most all of the tv series main characters including Seshomaru(oh yeah).

5-0 out of 5 stars Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time
This movie is great! Even though I've only seen it in Japanese with English subtitles as of yet, I loved it! (It'll be just as good, if not better, in English). About the movie: first of all, neither it nor any of the other 2 movies currently released in Japan have to do with the tv episodes. The story is completely different. I'd say this movie takes place after at least the 54th episode though, after Inuyasha has already learned the Backlash Wave. In the movie, a demon from China called Matenmaru (another moth demon like Gatenmaru) tricks Inuyasha into using Tetsusaiga to break the seal on his "inheritance"--his family's powers--making him invincible (he was already immortal before his ultimate powers were unleashed). Now, it is up to Inuyasha and company to defeat him! In addition to lots of action, there are also some touching moments between Inuyasha and Kagome in this movie. ;) Any fan of the tv show is sure to love this movie!!! (By the way, the second movie is great too--Inuyasha and Kagome KISS in it!! however, they only kiss once, and briefly, and this does not affect their relationship in the episodes at all.) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I would recommend the uncut version, but still a great movie
"Kite" has been one of the hardest movies to find uncut for a long time, and for good reason. "Kite" has scenes of very graphic rape and raw violence and gore. But none of it is gratuitous, it all adds to the amazing story.

"Kite" brings to mind the movie "The Professional," but with a bit of a twist. In "The Professional," a young girl's family is killed and a kind assasin takes her in and teaches her the way of the hired hitman. In "Kite," Sawa's parents are murdered and she is taken in by the man who killed them, he forces her to become an assassin for her and also his sexual slave. Sawa is connected to him by dependence and hate. When she meets a fellow orphan and assassin, the handsome and destructive Oburi, she is given another path.

"Kite" is not for the squeamish or faint of heart. The killings in the film are treated with such nonchalance that it affects you all the more. You are instantly attached to Sawa, despite her unblinking view of murder. "Kite" definitely has heartfelt moments in it too. The calm innocence Sawa and Oburi share together keeps you close to the characters.

I gave this movie a 4 star rating, only because this is the edited version. The uncut version of "Kite" is available now. You can buy it on animecastle.com, and I would definitely recommend the uncut over the cut.

5-0 out of 5 stars A mesmerizing movie!
Wow, this is an amazing movie. This is the "cut" version, but it is still great. I had the fortune of obtaining the Uncut version, and while it has more "graphic" everything, this is still a good version.

This story is about Sawa, a young girl, who was orphaned when her parents were murdered. She is taken in and "adopted" by Akai, the Police Detective assigned to her parents murder investigation. Sawa, reminiscant of "La Femme Nikita" is an assasian of sorts. Ordered about by her keeper Akia, she must do his bidding. Sawa meets Oburi, yet another vigilante such as she, a young man, and sparks fly. They develop a friendship of sorts. While Sawa is a girl of few words, her face and expressions speak a thousand of them.

I absolutely loved this movie. If you love a good Japanese anime, then this is for you. If you love a good action packed flick, then this is for you. The animation is so well drawn, it is mind boggling. The scenes are so realistic, but the storyline is definately NOT for children. I give this movie two thumbs up, and so will you!

2-0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Much
I usually like a little darkness in anime shows; however the uncut version was just a bit too much. Frankly if you get a kick out of men taking advantage of young girls, don't hesitate to check it out. The movie was about a young girl who gets tricked into working for the very man who killed her family. She is trained to be a killer by her family's murderer and goes around killing people. She meets up with another guy assasin who is closer to her age; and of course, they fall in love. Then of course, she is supposed to kill him. In the end they both get revenge on the bad guys; but, like all anime, there is that little twist in the end. Blah, blah blah.
This movie left me feeling dirty and depressed. For anyone who gets their kicks out of sick shows and love being shocked, this is your movie. If you would rather watch a show that has some darkness, but yet some deep meaning, watch "Now and Then, Here and There", "Hellsing", or "Battle Angel". At least there is some discretion used in these movies and series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Director's Cut version
when the print says "Absolutely not for children" they weren't joking around! I'm an adult so the gratuotis sex/rape scenes didn't really bother me. It actually played a part in the movie so it wasn't neccessarily random and pointless that the makers included those scenes. The action is decent and the Sawa reminds me of Matilda in the movie Leon: The Professional. Clocking in at 60 minutes it was all so short. if it was longer and more to it I would definately vote it 5 stars. I'm glad it's part of my collection
