It really is a pretty exciting saga. The first two DVD's have the strange emergence of the monster Buu and includes the most fighting in the saga. The end of the second DVD is unexpected and pretty amazing. After that, the rest of the five DVD's detail how Babidi and Majin Buu (and later this will actually change, but I won't spoil) are destroying the world while the warriors watch and prepare from a far. It really makes the viewer wonder about the monster Majin Buu. This series makes him a sort of "weird" villain in the way he acts, not as one-sided as some of the previous villains and does a good job of making what will happen in the next two sagas make more sense. A great watch, it is very exciting. I highly reccommend it.
The Majin Buu story is the last part of DBZ, before Toriyama retired. And one can tell he was already wearing himself thin. The Majin Buu Saga begins when the demon, Majin Buu is unleashed, and the Z Fighters must prepare themsleves for battle with him. Meanwhile Majin Buu goes around destroying the Earth. Haven't we seen this somewhere before? Oh yes! Majin Buu is practically a clone of Cell! Going from one city to another, destroying everything, while the good guys try desperately to strengthen themselves. THis leads us to the many annoying flaws of the Majin Buu saga and whole story: 1) By the time Gotenks is ready to face Majin Buu at the end of the saga, Buu has already killed 2/3 of the Earth's population. Maybe Goku should ask himself, "these earthlings are such wusses! They run around panicking in the streets just before Buu kills them. You'd think after Cell and Frieza and Vegeta and Piccolo and all those villains, they'd've learned by now! Hm. Is it even worth the effort to save these idiots?" Seriously, after so many villains try to destroy the Earth, I figured the human population would be less stupid and scared. 2) Before the Majin Buu saga, we just all of a sudden hear of this Babidi guy who's trying to ressurect Buu. No connection to past villains (like Cell), no revelations of Goku's past (like Vegeta). Just some random demon we've never even heard of. 3) lesser flaws. It's been increasing since the Piccolo saga, but by now we hardly see any of those cool anthropomorphic animals that coexisted with humans back in Dragonball. Those guys were so cool! And what happened to Tien!? He was the second coolest Z Fighter after Vegeta, and he's missing! Good Grief! Well, I have been brutal in exposing the saga's flaws, but it has it's bright side too. We do see a lot of character development, including a real noble turn for Vegeta. Plus, we get to see Goku fight Buu as a SS3; one of DBZ's best scene's. So, even though the story is wearing thin, we still see that our heroes haven't lost their shine. That would bring the saga up to 4 stars. So why does it only get 3 stars? Because those cheapskates at Funimation released it as a 7-disc set! C'mon! The RR Army saga was released on 2 discs, so I imagine this saga could easily come in 3 or 4 discs. But I'll just wait patiently for that before buying this saga. If you are new to DB or DBZ, don't start with this one. I'd recommend the King Piccolo, Piccolo Jr, Saiyan, or Namek Sagas. Those are definitely Dragonball's golden age. However, if you're a seasoned fan, by all means, go for this flawed, yet fun, saga. Or you could wait until Funimation release a 4 disc set. It's up to you.

Revolutionary Girl Utena is 39 episodes long, but for several years only the first 13 episodes have been available in the States. There are three reasons for this. First, the sex. We see teenage characters who are sexually active in some way, even though we don't see what they do. Second, and more important, there are some pretty obvious displays of gay sexuality, including one character who is a lesbian and knows it. Third, there are open discussions of brother-sister incest, including a younger girl who has a hopeless crush on her older brother. Let's handle these three things one at a time. 1. The sex. In terms of its frankness about teen sex, Utena is more graphic than any US-based cartoon for tweens but far less so than Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So, if Buffy doesn't bother you, this show might not either. 2. The gay themes. This show never judges people for being gay, and the entire series is clearly about finding out what you want and staying true to your own ideals and desires. The main character, Utena, seems to like only boys at first, but she also kind of wants to BE a boy--strong, assertive, and able to defend other girls who are being persecuted or pushed around. In short, this is not a show about traditional family values. 3. The incest stuff. Incest is NEVER presented in a positive light in this show. Quite the contrary, is is portrayed as a tragic reality that is neither imaginary nor safe. The show's insights into the dynamics of family desire are very, very radical, and if you don't even want to THINK about these isues, don't watch the show. However, if you want to see a show that takes the issue seriously and will give you food for thought about what incest MEANS, you are in for a revelation. [Note--The Black Rose Saga also has hints of teacher-student sexual relations, and these are handled similarly. The reality of such relations is acknowledged, but there no sense of sexiness, much less of approval] This middle segment of the show, The Black Rose Saga, is the least interesting one. It's sort of a lengthy pause between the first arc, which handles the development of Utena as a "prince," and the last arcs, which deal with two basic questions: what does it really mean to be a "prince," and what would it take to revolutionize the world? However, even though it's a pause, it's still an interesting portrait of some minor characters and their own struggles, which are often different from Utena's. In terms of its overall take on sexuality and desire, Utena is more radical than ANY show in the US, including Xena, OZ, Queer as Folk, etc. In terms of its sexual politics it just might be the most radical TV show, ever. By the time the series is over, the show has pretty much completely revised the whole idea of how men and women are supposed to relate to each other and what it means for them to desire each other. From the simple image of a prince on a white horse, an entire new fairy tale emerges that suggests women, and men, are headed toward a very new future. I can't say more without spoiling the show. I write all this becuase US fans of Utena often attempt to downplay these issues and say that the characters aren't "really" gay, etc. Fine--but the characters aren't "really" straight, either. They are complex, powerful, and often tragic individuals who are trying to figure out what they want in life. I think we need more shows like this, both for teen viewers and for the rest of us. But make no mistake, this isn't just some adventure cartoon with cool fight scenes, and it will try to make you ask questions about your own desires.

Fruits Basket (called "Furuba" by fans) is the story of Tohru Honda, a high school student who has lost both of her parents. Her mother died only a year before the start of the series, and Touru misses her so much that she always carries her picture around with her. Tohru was living with her paternal grandfather until he began renovations on his home, so he asked her if she'd mind staying with some friends for awhile. Touru didn't want to impose on either of her friends, so she decided to set up a tent in the woods until the house was finished.. until one day she stumbles across the home of her classmate Yuki Sohma, and accidentally discovers his family's BIG secret - when "huggled" by someone of the opposite sex, they are cursed to turn into the animals of the Chinese zodiac. Tohru ends up moving in with the Sohma family as a housekeeper/cook in exchange for room and board, and she is introduced one-by-one to the rest of the clan (some of whom are.. VERY.. unusual). Now, you might be telling yourself "I've seen this before, and it's name was 'Ranma 1/2'.." - and you have NO IDEA how very wrong you are. Fruits Basket is a one of a kind series that manages to take a premise that could very well have followed the same path as Ranma (namely, relying on perverted jokes and accidental transformations to convey most of the plot and comedy), but instead becomes a chronicle of truly believable characters struggling to belong and dealing with what life has given them, both the good and bad. Over the course of its 26 episodes, Fruits Basket has made me laugh harder than any other anime I've ever seen, and then it goes right ahead and takes me on an emotional rollercoaster ride until I'm bawling along with the characters onscreen. But no matter what happened, it always leaves me with a smile and a feeling that if I could just have an ounce of the inner strength that these characters display, I would be all the better for it. Don't let me mislead you into thinking this is merely a cheesy tearjerker - Fruits Basket has PLENTY of high-energy martial arts battles, slapstick comedy, and wacky plot twists, but underneath all of this lies a deep emotional current that EVERYONE can connect with. If you've ever been jealous or angry with your family, undergone the loss of a close relative, felt completely alone, watch the people you love leave you behind, or have simply been misunderstood, you will regret missing this series. The true power of this series is found not in the comedy, but in the relationships between both family and friends. On a more shallow level, the characters are mostly rather good-looking, the animation is attractive - no amazing special effects, of course, but consistently high quality and well-suited to the story, and the music is very beautiful. Overall, this is a series for everyone to see, from the shoujo (girls') romance fans to comedy lovers to drama affectionados. You will NOT be disappointed - by episode 26, I guarantee you'll find yourself upset that ANOTHER season doesn't exist (yet). ^_^
As a note I consider the Fruits Basket DVDs to be really the first truely amazingly done DVDS, at the time (Or at least to my knowledge) most Anime discs had 2-5 episodes and th only features were textless endings (Can you say crappy and boring?) but Fruits basket has not only previews for other Funimation stuff, but interviews, a documentary of the "eye catches" (Which are explained in the documentry) and even behind the scenes footage. AND 6 episodes per disc, and the disc has 3 regions, any fan of special features would freak out, why the only way they could get any better would be is if it came with a poster or something rather. Overall I suguest Fruits Basket to anyone who is willing to give it a chance, the anime has elements from many genres and is a perfect balance of Comedy and Character devolopment. Buy it today.
After watching the first three episodes I pulled a complete 180 (although the tortured pasts are still there). Fruits Basket is an utterly charming story. It's rather hard to describe without delving into trite phrases. It's sweet but not saccharine; gentle but not dull; funny but not banal. It's not all fluffyness and light. Occasionally tragedy strikes (or was unearthed). All of the characters are developed and are so fleshed out that you really feel it when they hurt. This is the one anime that has almost made me cry, and it was over a character that up until that particular moment in time I seriously disliked. However sad events become, Fruits Basket always ends on an uplifting note of hope. I normally reccomend anime to people whom like a particular genre. However, I believe that Fruits Basket has a universal appeal. I have yet to meet anyone whom has seen this series in its entirety who has not liked it. If you want a change from action/sci-fi/fighting/cheesy romance/anything anime, Fruits Basket is a wonderful way to go. Tohru's eyes are still really, really big though. Don't let it get to you. ;P

Now on to the bad points, the back of the movie box claims that this movie is a sequel to the Street Fighter II V series, however this is not the case. In fact Chun-Li is reintroduced to Ryu and Ken (yawn). This movie has character designs by Yoshihiko Umakoshi the result is that the characters look the way that they do in the Street Fighter Alpha games which in my opinion isn't nearly as good as the character designs in the Street Fighter II movie or the SF II V series. The fact that this is a Street Fighter movie I expected the fight scenes to be equal to or better than the fight scenes in the previous SF movie or television series, but unfortunately the fight scenes aren't that great. Also, I was a little upset that some of the Alpha characters that were in the movie like Guy, Sodom, Rolento, Adon, Vega, Dhalism, and Dan, had roles that were short-lived and corny. The story wasn't fully realized by the writer's in my opinion, because it had the potential for being so much more than a story fit for a Saturday morning cartoon show. The characters were also in many cases repeating the same tired lines over and over again which was very annoying.
All in all, a great film

This series was originally released as 4 DVDs. It was later discovered that two versions of the show existed, so ADV decided to release the second version as a box set. The material in this version is a little more risque than the original (i.e. it's not for kids). ADV redid the subtitles for this release, and by all accounts, the new subtitles are more accurate. However, there is no English dub on this version. If you hate subtitles, this release isn't for you. If subtitles don't bother you, this is a great value--you get over 4 hours of animation.
I'd have to agree with the other reviews. At first I was under the impression that this anime would have typical "Love Hina" or "Chobits" style storyline to it. It does in some ways, but the overall story follows a different path. A path that slowly but surely grabs your attention & keeps you locked in. What I mean is, the first 2 or so episodes feel like any other anime out there, but as the story progresses there are a surprising/interesting plot twists & very good character developement. The humour, as with most Japanese anime, is always a bonus side-dish ^_^ The ending once again, is some-what abrupt, but by the time I saw episode 11, I knew they'd pull off an abrupt ending. We're left to answer most of the questions for ourselves... so keep in mind that this anime focuses on the theme of "love/relationships" & "journey to self-discovery". Rather than asking what happens, think about what the characters did to overcome their problems & as a result the direction the story was going close to the ending. Once you do that the answers should come naturally. If you keep that in mind, the ending will feel a lot better. You'd say to yourself, "Ah! So thats what they were going for/getting at! ^_^"... that or I could be crazy, watch it & you be the judge! Anyway, (final notes...) I think the network that was airing the show might have put then on the cutting block or they might have had too small a budget to pull of anymore than half a season's worth of episodes. In any case, if you like romance with a side of naughty humour, you must see this show. And yes, at first, I too said "WTF?^^ MATE" cause the ending was all like "THEE EEND!!" Done reading my essay? Good. Now hit the "BUY" button. Hehee.. hope this review helped.

Kintaro usually thinks with his libido. For example, when he sees a beautiful woman who turns out to be a swimming instructor, he gets a job as an instructor, even though he doesn't know how to swim. After he is exposed, he tells her he will beat her in a swimming race if she will give him a job while he's training. He fantasizes about her, and as in other episodes, he especially has a fetish for the toilets beautiful women sit on. She thinks Kintaro is a scumbag. The interesting thing is that he improves the training program at the school and actually revolutionizes their methods. In the end, the swimming instructor falls in love with him, but he disappears, on to another adventure even as she realizes her mistake about him. Most of other 5 episodes follow a similar pattern. He gets a job around beautiful women, they think he's scum, until at the end he has changed their life. Just like GTO, even though the character seems perverted, in the end there is no sex. He helps out a sofware company, becomes an anime gopher, chases a motorcycle chick, saves a virgin from her caddish fiance, and has to deal with a yakuza mob boss. This dvd was really funny. The voice actor doing Kintaro overacted as needed and the women were drawn in ways that actual humans could never be proportioned. Some people probably couldn't deal with the sexual humor on display here, but at least Kintaro is honest with his urges, and in the end knows exactly what he is doing. The real Kintaro has a heart of gold. This is a good price for 2 dvds.

Anyways, on to my review...The video quality is not of the usual dvd quality seen in more recent dvd anime, due to the age of the film. However, the second disc, since it is newer, has better animation and artwork. The story is pretty good and is one of my favorite anime of all time. However, the story seems unresolved in this dvd set and hopefully there will be future plans in continuing the story (I've heard rumors of a tv series of 3x3 eyes). The romance within the story is also well done. All in all, this anime classic should be watched by all anime fans. Despite all of the obstacles it had on its way to America, 3x3 eyes finally made its way here and hopefully many will come to appreciate this.
The mini-series begins the saga of Yakumo, and his quest to make Pai, his demon-acquaintance, human. A strange bond develops between the two of them, binding them together through thick and thin. Their journey takes them to Hong Kong and back to Japan, where they finally become separated-how they get back together is a story in its own. The animation is great is some places, and lacking in others-but the strange plot and crazy characters make up for it. The music might seem a tad familiar to any one who has seen Braveheart-you might even swear that the producers of Braveheart borrowed it from the anime :) 3x3 Eyes is, however, extremely gory, which is critical to plot. But the gore is well done, and a vital part of enjoying the anime, in my humble opinion. ;) The series is truly superb for any otaku or anime-fan, but perhaps a little too much for someone just getting started on their anime fix.

Unlike the earlier movies, the CG elements are not always totally obvious. (Some are, some aren't. Better than the previous movie, at least!) The music fits the scenes well. The new characters were likeable, for the most part. Annie and Oakley made interesting and entertaining additions to Team Rocket. The DVD also includes the "Camp Pikachu" short, which was one of the better mini-movies, and several addition features. The best of these was "animation stages", which let you really get a good feeling of how the movie was put together. Scouting videos from Venice are also on the DVD, and are a nice touch! All in all, if you're a fan of Pokemon (or have someone in the family who is), I highly recommend this DVD!
The movie does not emphasize on the "one person who saves all" perspective, which means Ash, to my surprise, does not play the major role here; his significance in this movie is far less than that of Latias and Latios, the two legendary guardians that protect the city that looks almost identical to Venice. Unlike Pokemon 2000, Ash does not takes his enemies out with Pikachu, his courage and bravery in this movie cannot prevent the destruction of the city. This reflects that the word "heroes" in Pokemon Heroes does not refer to Ash and his gang, rather, it focuses on Latias and Latios' sacrificial actions (especially Latios). Like all other Pokemon movies, the graphics are beautifully drawn and rendered. When Ash is running away with Latias in street alleys near the beginning of the movie, the first person view of the scenary mixed with 3D effect is truly breathtaking! It is comparable to Miyazaki's Spirited Away's 3D rendering, and to some degree, better than that of Spirited Away's. The background musics give the audience a sensation of Venice's (though the city is not Venice in the movie), and musics can be heard most of the time throughout the anime, which do not create boredom because they match up with the atmosphere perfectly. Pokemon Heroes is truly an amazing film, anyone who loves Pokemon animes should watch it, and anyone who's bored of the protagonist saving the entire world should watch this for a change, it will not give you disappointment!

DO NOT GET THE REGION 4 DVD FROM AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!! You can not play this on any American DVD player unless it specically says that it is multi-region. That is going to cost around 200 dollars! It may work on your computer, but I rather watch it on my TV. I am almost positive that they will release the same DVD set you can by in Australia in America in the region one coding. We just need to wait a while. The company is almost done releasing all the Dragonball series on DVD and only have the Tien and Pilaf Saga left. Just be patient and it will eventually come out in America.

Amazon.com Intimations of a new threat posed by the distant Robotech Masters serve as a lead-in to the second part of the epic. A planned 65-episode fourth installment in the saga was never completed, but the first four episodes and some additional footage were combined into the feature Robotech II: The Sentinels, the final installment in the Robotech continuity. The supplemental "Elements of Robotechnology III" disc includes The Sentinels, a trailer for it prepared for the 1987 Toy Fair, and a rather self-serving commentary by writer-director Carl Macek. Members of Gen-X who grew up on Robotech will delight in retracing these romances and battles; it's a classic, of sorts. Viewers accustomed to the more rapid pacing, dynamic action, and sophisticated direction of recent anime will tire of the endless shilly-shallying. Unrated; suitable for ages 8 and up: Mild violence restricted to spaceship and robot battles. --Charles Solomon Reviews (17)
This disc is focused on the Harmony Gold\Tatsuko studio's sequel to Robotech right after the Macross Saga ends called The Sentinals. Unlike Codename Robotech, the video quality here was extremely well. The audio commentary by Carl Macek is sadly a text he read from one of his books explaining the Sentinels. The rest of the extras center around the Sentinals. Inluding bios on all characters, mecha design sheets, character models and promotional film with additional footage. The only extra that seperates itself from the Sentinals is the two International Clips which both feature Minmei. The Sentinals is the story of the surviving crew from Macross along with new ones that build the SDF-3 to establish piece negotiations with the Robotech Masters. While Rick contemplates getting married to Lisa, the Robotech Master's people are having some trouble when the Invid come searching for the Flower of Life. Overall, great episodes, great extras, how can you argue? A must have for any anime fan. Note: Look for an Astro Boy and Godzilla toy box in Episode 35.
Set in the 21st century, Robotech was the most popular of the Americanized Japanese anime series to hit American TV waves during the 1970s and 1980s. Known for its cutting edge animation, high tech battle scenes, futuristic weapons (planes, tanks, motorcyles that transform into robots), cool alien invaders, and realistic and compelling storylines, Robotech swept an entire generation and helped put Japanese Anime forever on the map of American pop culture. Robotech's sweeping saga spanned three generations, weaving together three separate actual Japanese anime series. The basic story premise is that the earth became forever changed when a mysterious alien battleship crashed on earth. The people of the world, now knowing that they are not alone, end all wars and unite to assimilate the advanced technology and prepare for the inevitable alien invasion that is sure to come. As the story unfolds mankind would go on to become embattled in an intergalactic struggle, battling three separate alien races over the next 60 years.
