Until you've seen NASCAR: The IMAX Experience, you haven't really seen NASCAR. Even without the advantage of a gigantic IMAX screen and 70-millimeter 3-D projection, this 48-minute IMAX film is a perfect primer for newcomers to the sport of stock-car racing. Like all IMAX films it's aimed at a mainstream audience (hardcore NASCAR fans won't learn anything new here), so it covers a broad spectrum of general history, technical information, and pure high-speed adrenaline, from NASCAR's origins in 1947 to the oval-track highlights of the 2003 season. While Lonesome Dove director Simon Wincer captures the action (including some amazing mid-pack and cockpit footage during actual races), Kiefer Sutherland narrates an informative survey of season-long activities, from car building and safety measures at Mooresville, North Carolina, to pit-crew practice, transportation logistics, constant danger and its effect on drivers' wives and families, and the aerodynamics of drafting. Interesting trivia (each tire costs $389!) is included along with driver profiles and a compilation of memorable race finishes, but it's the IMAX footage that makes this a thrill-a-minute DVD, perfect for anyone who's just beginning to enjoy the world's fastest (and fastest-growing) sport. --Jeff Shannon ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It..
Unlike some of the other detractors of this DVD. I don't care about it not being 3-D or whatever.I was let down in a big way.I am not a big NASCAR fan, but I do live&breathe motorsport , so I thought "what the heck, this looks good". While it served as a decent documetary, with interesting facts and so on. I felt the "action" portion of the program is what let me down.Simon Wincer missed the mark as far a I'm concerned. The hodge-podge editing of multiple tracks/events as one raceday seemed contrived. Just my humble opinion.

3-0 out of 5 stars a visual knockout but it could have had more racing footage

There would be no point in denying that "NASCAR: The IMAX Experience" loses a little something in its transference to the small screen. However, it's still an eye-popping documentary for both diehard racing fans and those viewers who know little or nothing about the sport - although the hardcore aficionados might wish there had been a little less talk on the soundtrack and a little more action on the racetrack to make the experience a more compelling and complete one.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, especially considering the fact that the film was originally shot in the 3-D IMAX format. One might reasonably expect that the movie would be little more than a succession of speeding cars and hurtling objects aimed directly at the stunned eyes of the audience. Not so, for the movie actually spends far more time on the nuts-and-bolts, behind-the-scenes aspects of NASCAR than on the racing itself. The film provides a brief background on the organization's less-than-savory moonshine roots, then proceeds to fill us in on various aspects of the sport itself, including the construction, specifications and testing of the cars, the training of the pit crews, the loyalty of the fans, etc.It also takes time out to honor the memory of the late racing great Dale Earnhardt, although due to the film's rather meager 49 minute running time, the tribute, like virtually everything else in the movie, comes across as a little more halfhearted and perfunctory than, perhaps, in all good conscience, it should.

To get most of the racing shots, director Simon Wincer strapped his camera crew into vehicles of their own in order to provide audiences with an experience as close to the real thing as possible. The majority of these sequences come in the last ten minutes or so of the film.As with all IMAX productions, the clarity and beauty of the picture is, indeed, a wonder to behold, with the colors literally leaping off the screen in many-hued splendor.Even without 3-D glasses and a two-story sized screen, this is a great visual experience. Now if they could have just shown a little more racing...

5-0 out of 5 stars Vrrrroooooommm !!!!!!!!!
Wow.From Boogedy, Boogedy, Boogedy to the Star Spangled Banner (which gives me chills when i watch it) this movie ROCKS!!! I loved to get up close with the racers and feeling like you are actually along for the ride! The quality of this movie is unlike any other I have seen...I am so impressed with this DVD! NASCAR fans-- I HIGHLY recommend it!!! You wont be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Enjoyable
As a huge NASCAR fan, we had to rush out and see this IMAX film. While I had never seen something like this before, the experience itself was fascinating. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the driving scenes had to be created using special equipment. It's not like they filmed this during an actual Daytona 500. Even if I had known this BEFORE going to see it, I still would have gone...because it was a rather cool experience.I'm not quite sure how you will get the same effect at home - unless, of course, you have a heck of surround sound system and a mammoth TV!

4-0 out of 5 stars No 3D??!!
I don't understand why they couldn't have released this in 3D.The Imax movie, Santa vs the Snowman, was and so was Spy Kids 3D.Other than that, it's as great as the four times I went to see it in the theatre. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for racing fans
I was initially put off by the title and the artwork on this DVD, believing it was aimed at hard-core racing fans. After reading numerous reviews praising the quality of the sound and images, I decided to buy it as a "show me why DVD is so great" disk. And in that regard, I certainly wasn't disappointed; it is a spectacular showcase DVD.

What I didn't expect is how much I enjoyed the human interest story of the Andretti family. The movie takes you into their world, and places racing in perspective: technological, historical, and social. The story arc gently draws you to the racing track, immerses you in the raw excitement of driving at over 200 MPH, and then eases you back out to the real world, your heart still pounding. While the cars are unquestionably exciting, this isn't just about sitting in the cockpit. It's really about the people who do this, from the driver all the way back to the car's designers.

In the "Behind the Scenes" video (an outstanding piece in its own right), the director points out that you couldn't invent a story like this, that no one would believe it. Without giving away anything, the finale of Super Speedway is more touching, more emotional than any Hollywood fiction. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money and time.
Boy was I disappointed when I watched this! IMAX films are generally designed to wow viewers in their exclusive massive theaters with hundreds of speakers and a monster sound system. But the story-line, dialog and every other aspect of the films are are pretty sterile, contrived and basically boring. Well take away the big theater and what you get is the lame story and only a glimpse of the films visual and audio impact. (Yes, I've got all the cool stuff, 42" TV, DTS, 200W/channel...blah blah blah). There lots of IMAX-y shots that start at a distance then slowly zoom in. In the IMAX theater the crowd goes ooh and ahh. At home you go huh? And don't expect any real racing excitment. They show a few random clips of a race, then wha-la the winners are spraying champagne. The dialog is presented as if it's genuine, but it's obviously scripted. The test track footage is pretty cool and the engine sounds are good but inconsistent, they have to turn them down so you can hear the lame dialog. Mario Andretti is of course way-cool, he can't help it. And if you're into it (I'm not) there's a handful of old clips of horrific crashes, most of which someone was killed (neat huh). These are not filmed in IMAX. I haven't watched the making-of bit yet but I'm sure it's more interesting than the main feature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!
This DVD is a must have for your home theater. I bought it on the recommendations here on the website and was not disappointed. The clarity is amazing. I am using an Optoma H56 projector onto a 92" Da-Lite screen and it is one of the sharpest programs I have ever seen. Nearly HD. The sound is even more mind boggling. The music and the sound effects are great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Incredible footage...
This is an incredible DVD. The images are absolutely the cleanest. As clean as you can get on an HDTV without an actual HDTV signal - almost 3D. The racing and testing footage was spectacular. I have an Hitachi 65" HDTV(WS) but the DTS and 16:9 function would not work on this DVD - each time I selected 16:9 WS and DTS it would lockup the DVD. I watched it in 4:3 fullframe in the 16:9 std mode on the TV and the audio in DD 5.1 EX with no problem. That is the beauty of Hitachi WS televisions. They will take a fullscreen 1.33:1 and expand the image without distortion in the 16:9 std mode - although I prefer movies in WS. Do not use the 4:3 expanded mode - it creates distortion. I have no idea why the 16:9 WS function would not work along with the DTS audio and I tried it several times. I am returning it for another. I know there is nothing wrong with my system because we watched Cheryl Crow - Rockin the Globe in DTS before watching SuperSpeedway and the Eagles Hell Freezes Over in DTS after that - it must be the DVD disk. If you like racing - it gives an incredible feel - at times "almost" as if you were actually driving...

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!!!
This is a must see DVD. It's everything the previous reports have to say about it. It's simply AWESOME if you do indeed want to show off your HD surround sound system get this DVD NOW. The visual and audio propertys are breathtaking. Every audio visual dealer should be required to use this DVD as a selling point for its products. Very highly recommended. ... Read more

The 2004 Formula One season was one for the history books, and this annual Season Review DVD preserves it all for glorious posterity. Not only did Michael Schumacher score his record-setting seventh World Driver's Championship (13 wins in 18 races), but he and Ferrari teammate Rubens Barichello scored 1st- and 2nd-podium finishes throughout the season, taking the Scuderia to the Constructor's Championship by an untouchable margin. Barichello had a stellar and emotionally moving season that also saw the addition of two glorious new circuits (China, Bahrain); the "walrus tusk" nose on the new BMW Williams racer (eventually abandoned mid-season); the amazing Monaco race, where Jarno Trulli won and Schumacher spectacularly failed to finish due to an avoidable tunnel mishap; Ralf Schumacher's near-tragic shunt at Indianapolis (and his late-season recovery); Kimi Raikkonen's mounting frustrations in the unreliable Mercedes McLaren (and partial late-season comeback); the rise of Jenson Button and Takuma Sato as future F1 superstars; and rule-changes in engine use and qualifying that revamped the grid with equal parts controversy and approval. Even with Schumi's dominance, it was a fantastic season by any standard, setting the stage for tumultuous personnel changes in 2005.

The 2004 Review is better and longer (3 hours 14 minutes) than 2003's DVD, with such welcome additions as cockpit radio samples, improved camera angles, and throttle/brake indicators. It's still expensive, however, and although the race-by-race coverage is fantastic, one wishes for more interviews, expert commentary, and behind-the-scenes news. This is a no-nonsense summary, so you don't get as much background as you do on ITV or Speed Channel coverage, and some amusing details--like the missing diamond from Jaguar's "Ocean's Twelve" car--are conspicuously absent. Still, there's no better DVD available for F1 fans, and that makes the 2004 Review an absolute must-have for your motorsports video library. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review of 2004
This dvd is a great record of the 2004 F1 season and is even better than the excellent 2003 review DVD, continuing in the tradition of the seasonal reviews released on video for the past 20+ years. If you have the 2003 DVD get this, if not I also recommend the 2003 DVD.

It captures all the major action throughout the season and the great racing that occurred throughout the field. Although Ferrari walked over the opposition there was still lots of good racing and that is all covered here; From Trulli's maiden win in Monaco to Raikkonen's crushing win at Spa. The footage is all of excellent quality and shows incidents that weren't always shown during the TV broadcasts, such as DC and Barrichello colliding during the Japanese GP. In addition to the season review there is the option of watching each race separately with the complete footage of every pole position. The only complaint would be a lack of interactivity, however it's far superior to the previously released 2000 season, which lacked the ability to play the complete season.

Overall a great DVD, top quality, and is recommended for anyone with an interest in F1 and/or motor racing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fairly comprehensive review of the 2004 season
As others have mentioned, this review of the 2004 Formula One season provides more in-depth coverage than its 2003 predecessor. The 2003 review runs 145 minutes whereas this version is 194 minutes long, allowing time for fairly comprehensive coverage of each race, reviews some of the controversies (Jenson Button's attempt to jump ship from BAR to Williams) and looks at the new venues at Bahrain and Shanghai. The crystal clear footage provided by DVD surpasses even that of the original broadcast footage I saw on cable TV. There is more in-car footage than has been included in past DVD's, including Jenson Button's complete qualifying lap to take pole position at Imola. That footage is terrific-- in fact my major and continuing criticism of these year end reviews is that more of this dramatic in car footage should be included. Nothing conveys the speed, handling, and yes, car to car racing that takes place in F1 better than seeing it from the driver's perspective. My wish is to someday have in-car footage of either the complete pole winning lap or a complete race lap from each circuit included. Still, the coverage is in depth and well done.

A smaller quibble is that, in such a tightly-controlled sphere of influence as Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One fiefdom, any official review will present the sport only in its best light and offer, at best, muted criticism of of its subject. This is most apparent in coverage of the US Grand Prix where there is no mention at all that the controversial decision to repeatedly parade cars through shards of carbon fiber behind the safety car, rather than sufficiently clean the track of post-accident debris, likely led to the accidents of Fernando Alonso and Ralf Schumacher. Likewise, the scandalously slow response of medical crews to Ralf's serious accident is not mentioned at all. Instead, all that we are offered is the rosy commentary "Ralf receives the undivided attention of the medical team!"

This review is comprehensive, with excellent video and sound from each race as well as a good amount (but not enough) of in car footage. I recommend this to any F1 fan.
CORRECTION: It turns out my review is mistaken on a major point! What I thought at first was simply a chapter listing turns out to be an additional feature that does not appear when simply playing this disc all the way through. When you go to the "Event by event" menu listing, not "Play All," the listing "Pole!" shows you the pole winning lap at each course! This is great-- just what I've wanted to see. I'm not sure why they didn't make this great feature more obvious. Or, maybe I'm just extremely slow. BUT, I take back my prior comments. It's great to see the in-car camera view of a complete lap of each course, driven in anger, with DVD clarity. Also, at the innaugural China GP, there is a race lap with Michael Schumacher that starts with him spinning out, then trying to rejoin, with graphics depicting braking, throttle, gear selection, and rpms. More in the future please!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best DVD so far.
Clearly, this F1 2004 review is much longer than F1 2003 review. However, it is better because the grand prix of each race are longer. Also, it covers each incidents happens in each Grand Prix. They don't miss any of them. The bad thing about F1 2003 review is because it is a bit too short. So, if you want to watch a F1 review, watch this instead of F1 2003, I guarantee this is the best F1 review.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best F1 dvd so far
I also own the 2003 F1 Review, so I will compare this to that one. I loved the 2003 dvd, but it could have been better. I think that this 2004 dvd really came through for me. It has everything that I wanted that wasn't on the 2003 dvd. There are new camera angles and more explanation of exactly whats going on. So you don't have to be a huge F1 fan to understand whats happening. But there are some terms used that a new fan might not get at first but as you watch more you'll catch up. This dvd is just bigger and better than the 2003 dvd. You get to ride along with Jensen Button for one lap and you can watch his RPMs hit almost 19,000! Of course the main attraction here is Michael Schumacher and he doesn't dissappoint as he takes the competition to school almost every race. Its just so much fun to watch these cars rip around the tracks. I used to be a casual NASCAR fan but after watching this dvd I just can't stand to watch boring, lame oval racing. This dvd is awesome and if you are a F1 fan you need this dvd. If I could afford it I would buy it for you. It really is ashame that F1 doesn't get more coverage in the USA. These cars are so high tech that its almost insane. And the sound! I could write a book about how crazy F1 cars sound. Everything is here and this dvd does not dissapoint. I would give it 6 stars if I could. ... Read more

Michael Schumacher's historic sixth World Championship is just one of many memorable highlights in the Official Review of F1's eventful 2003 season. Compiled from official broadcast coverage including excerpts from post-race interviews and qualifying pole-winners, this annual survey offers concise summaries of all 16 races from Australia (where Finland's Kimi Räikkönen scored a pivotal victory for McLaren) to Japan, where Rubens Barrichello secured a win for himself, the constructor's championship for Ferrari, and all-time greatest honors for his teammate, the über-German Schumacher. Brazil was crazy all around, with sporadic rain, frequent tire changes, a spectacular wipeout by Renault's Fernando Alonso (who still earned a third-place finish), and a judgment-decided victory for Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella. (Better use of graphics and narration would clarify race-to-race transitions, but knowledgeable F1 fans probably won't notice this forgivable flaw.)

"Schumi" scored an emotional victory at San Marino just hours after his mother's death, and won again in Italy (including his fastest-ever lap), Austria, Canada, and the rainy-day U.S. GP (while brother Ralf won the European and French GPs). Ferrari's new "shark-vented" F2003GA debuted at Imola; Juan Pablo Montoya challenged the championship with a win at Monaco (where 2002-to-2003 track changes are shown in split-screen from the cockpit of JPM's Williams); and Alonso's first-place finish at Hungary made him the youngest-ever GP winner. Despite numerous revisions in regulations and Ferrari's mid-season protest over apparent Michelin tire-width violations (judges dismissed the claim while Michelin corrected its tire size), the 2003 F1 season achieved its commercial goal with huge crowds, wacky highlights (remember that kilted loony on the track at Silverstone?), celebrity appearances, climactic races, intense competition from Williams, McLaren, and Renault (to contrast Ferrari's dominance in 2002), and the amazing achievement of Schumacher, now indisputably the greatest driver (statistically speaking) in the history of Formula One. --Jeff Shannon ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Schumi
Heres one great DVD for the F1 fans. It covers the full qualifying laps of the pole sitters and the main events in the race. Actions made off and on the track. It even covers the controversy of the Michelins tires being a little too wide. Well arent we all great to see Schumacher trying to work his talents when his car is no better than his rivals. Raikkonen scored his maiden win and so does Fernando Alonso whos two years down the road from his age. Making Alonso the youngest ever driver to win a grand prix. Raikkonen almost winning the championship pondering what it would have been if he had scored points in races he retired such as Canada and Spain, which would make him the youngest f1 driver to win the championship. but he didnt do that of course and Schumacher took his 6th world title barely. Raikkonen and Montoya took it to the wire. And its great to see the making of a new Schumacher, Alonso win his first race. Overall a great video, wether you like it or not its the only way to see these guys, champion in the making battle and find glory in what could be the best years of their career.

4-0 out of 5 stars 3 way race for the championship
2003 was full of drama absent in recent years. Schumacher wasn't winning all the races and Juan and Kimi were strong challengers right up to the last couple of races. The nit-pickers moan and groan about minor points. The picture is clear and crisp, the sound is adequate, and it's fullscreen!

3-0 out of 5 stars Wasting the DVD's Potential
As a fan of Formula One, I can't help but think how good this DVD could have been. Basically, what you have here is a VHS tape on DVD. Sure, the video and sound are better, but this disc makes almost no use of DVD's possibilities. For example, the overwhelming wish of F1 fans is for more in-car footage. Nothing conveys the feeling of speed, the agility, and, yes, the wheel-to-wheel racing that does take place in F1 like the car-mounted cameras do. And yet, all we get is a very basic, sequential report of each race, with all the standard footage including snippets of in-car video. For all it's deficiencies, the year 2000 review video did offer an "interactive" feature allowing access to race, pit, in-car, and telemetry views. The ideal season review disc would offer in-depth coverage of each race as well as access to separate driver's view video featuring the start and at least one full lap of each course. This disc is worth having for the Formula One fan, but future year end reviews will hopefully make better use of this format.

3-0 out of 5 stars Yet another mediocre DVD
The DVD mastering is poor. The transfer is solid, good colors, but the video itself- most of which appears to be taken from the lame world feed- is not the greatest.

1) Qualifying is close to all in-car, an improvement over the 2000 DVD. As to how the FIA can manage to govern the most technologically advanced cars on the planet and yet use big ugly low-resolution cameras that drop signals around trees is another story.

Don't hit chapter + during qualifying or you'll be treated to 5-10 seconds of a black screen. The menuing on this DVD is very peculiar, though not as overdone as the 2000 DVD.

Qualification shows JUST the pole-lap; no other highlights. If you're looking for the spinout that cost Raikkonen pole at Montreal, you need to look elsewhere.

2) The vast majority of the image is from the world feed, so it looks pretty weak. If you taped all of the races on VHS, you're not going to get much better with this.

3) Audio is front-channel only, probably stereo.

4) No practice highlights either.

Is it worth it? For completeness, maybe. if you're looking for a reference quality Formula One DVD, you've still got some waiting to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars F1 is da bomb! Simply the best!
I've been eagerly awaiting the 2003 Review. There's woefully little available on Formula One racing; like soccer, it isn't nearly as popular in the US as in the rest of the world. Yet F1 drivers are among the highest paid sports performers in the world. If you like extraordinary cars and the best driving, check this DVD out. You will not be disappointed! ... Read more

An impressive visual encyclopedia, The World's Greatest F1 Cars covers the first 50 years of Formula One racing. The DVD begins with the stories of the Bugatti T51 and the Delage GP, which were basically stripped-down sports cars. Grand Prix aficionados will be thrilled with the detailed footage and narration on 103 cars ranging from early models like the Alfa Romeo 158, in which Giuseppe "Nino" Farina roared to the first F1 world title, to the Lotus 72 Ford (1970), which was the first car to try to achieve better aerodynamic downforce through body design, to the modern Ferrari 1996-2000. The DVD can be watched as a whole or can be broken down car by car. Also included is a "Classic F1 Experience" in which you race along via a camera mounted above the driver's helmet. The World's Greatest F1 Cars is an amazingly thorough ride through F1 history. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

'The World's Greatest Formula One Cars' is a great DVD. It is about all of the best Grand Prix cars that have ever raced in Formula One, cars like Ferrari, Cooper, Lotus, McLaren, Brabham, BRM, Williams and many others. There is a lot of information on cars that even raced before F1 including the 1930's battles between Mercedes Benz and Auto Union. The DVD starts with the Grand Prix Car from 1920 and continues right up through the years until it reaches Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2000. There is a lot of great footage on the DVD including the famous battle between Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Arnoux for second place in the 1979 French Grand Prix. This is a great DVD and any fan of Formula One should buy it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars full of information
This is a great reference dvd. It lists just about every Ferrari ever produced, from the F1 cars to the GT & sports cars. Unfortunately, 4 hours is not enough time to do justice to these cars. The footage is great & includes a race from the 50th anniversary celebrations at Silverstone where about 40 different versions of the 250 took part.
The technical specifications are interesting but not really worth reading all of them.
recommended for any lover of great cars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insight into a driver's passion!
This DVD has actually been available for a couple of months and parts are already being televised on Speed channel. This is a great way to gain insight into a driver's life. The interviews with his family and the old photos are terrific. You realize that Tony had a passion for all things racing since he was a baby. His generous spirit in regards to his charitable works is admirable. I would love to see more of these DVDs of other drivers. FYI-Dale Earnhardt Jr's DVD is being released by the same company around February 2004. ... Read more

Two best selling films from award winning directors David Wallace and David Wood, now on one DVD. First, The Road Racers. Pure road racing from the Emerald Isle. From the crackle of racing engines at full power during 'unofficial practice' to the spectacular rider's-eye-view of racing on roads barely wide enough to take a car - this is the real thing! Award-winning producer David Wallace skillfully documents a hectic Irish season starting at the Northwest 200 through the Cookstown 100 to the finale at Carrowdore. This highly acclaimed production takes you behind the scenes and into the lives of road racers Frank Kennedy, Mervyn Tobinson and Joey Dunlop as they prepare to tackle the twists and jumps, telegraph poles and pillars on public roads - at breathtaking speeds. In V Four Victory, you can experience the rider's-eye-view with legend Joey Dunlop. In 1983 Joey Dunlop and the Honda V4 were not only F1 World Champions, but were almost untouchable on closed public road circuits like the famous TT course. This film is a wonderful tribute to the fearless skill of Joey Dunlop, the greatest pure road racer of all time and the cameras capture him in action at the TT and on the mighty Dundrod circuit at the Ulster GP. Unmissable race action is followed by some of the most stunning on-bike footage ever recorded as producer David Wood strapped a full-size 16 mm camera on top of Joey's fuel tank and filmed 'Yer Maun' on a blast around the TT course. The resulting footage is an awesome record of Joey's speed and talent. Exclusive features on this DVD include interviews and profiles on producers David Wallace and David Wood, and a photo gallery. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny Car Summer / Wish I'd Been There
I remember when this flick came out at the DRIVE IN!! If your a drag racing fan you'll like this DVD. If you are a true funny car fan you'll watch it again and again. Not a super slick promotion but a real look at what it was like before big coporate sponsor deals and multi-million dollar truack and trailers. Check it out I think you'll like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Christmas Gift from Mom
Just like the previous person. I also saw this at a small theatre in Illinois when just 5 or 6. I grew up at a local dragstrip (BYRON.) And witnessed "Snakes" and "Mongoose's" cars.
Plus all the others in the video. I mentioned the film to my father in late August and asked if he remembered taking me and my brother to see it. He sure did. He loved taking me and my brother to the races. My father and I still attend the races together. I love it. My mother found this film on your site(AMAZON.co) and had to buy it for me for Christmas. Was I surprised. I have watched it three times already. Awesome! I wish I was a little older in those days. All I remember is the awesome paint jobs on cars like the Hawaiian and Showtime. Also the Army Tank Wheelstander. Thank-you in helping me relive my childhood.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting..........
I saw this movie in 1974 or '75 at a theater on a Friday night. I was about 5 or 6 years old and never forgot it. Glad I found it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Movie about a Legendary Drag Racer
I first saw this movie/documentary about "THE FIREMAN" Jim Dunn at a Drive-in Movie in the early 80's. This movie follows this Legendary Drag Racer around the country during 1970 when he domenated the Funnycar class with his innovative rear engine direct drive 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. This type of setup was several decades ahead of it's time and now the main stay of all Top Fuel Dragster's today. This film also contains footage of then very young Mike Dunn drag racing his bicycle in parking lots and he even dropped a cute as he eliminated the competition. Mike Dunn drives a Top Fuel Dragster today and his dad Jim Dunn is still an Owner/Crew Chief of a Top Fuel Funnycar Team. Jim Dunn is probably one of the most over looked Legends in Drag Racing today. If you want a film that documents this Legendary Drag Racer in his hay day then you'll want this movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid introduction to funny cars
My wife and I saw this on television when it first came out and were delighted with it. More a documentary than a drama, it is an excellent introduction to racing in general and funny cars in particular. Well worth it. ... Read more

Like any good documentary, Speedo finds layers of meaning beneath its simple, entertaining story. With genuine affection for his subject, filmmaker Jesse Moss aims his camera at the wild and wacky blue-collar life of Ed "Speedo" Jager, a gas-station mechanic from Long Island, New York, who's determined to become the demolition derby champion of America. As he bolts together his latest wreck for demo-track competition, Speedo's raw language and homespun wisdom reveal a man who's uneducated but sharply in tune with his goals, desires, and responsibilities as a father. Moss's camera captures it all, from the volatile aggression of pit-lane competitors to the disapproving wrath of Ed's soon-to-be-ex-wife and punk-rock aspirations of his teenage son, who yearns for a wreck-worthy car of his own. By the time Ed finds a supportive new girlfriend, Speedo reveals a perfect match of family man, good-hearted woman, and the pursuit of happiness on the demo-derby circuit. Without a hint of condescension toward his working-class hero, Moss has crafted a memorable portrait that's purely American and yet universally appealing to optimists of any class. --Jeff Shannon ... Restrictor plates and penalty controversies notwithstanding, NASCAR Winston Cup 2002 is a riveting, action-packed survey of one of the most memorable seasons in recent Winston Cup history. Opting for breadth over depth, this officially authorized DVD covers all 36 races in the Winston Cup season, from Rockingham, North Carolina, to Homestead, Florida, placing special emphasis on the Holy Grail of NASCAR, the Daytona 500. While each race is allotted only a few breathtaking minutes apiece, the race summaries are quite thorough and the images... well, you'd have to actually drive the cars to get any closer to the action. There's racing drama everywhere, as seasoned pros like Sterling Marlin face off with younger upstarts like Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart--the latter being the season's ultimate champion. Multi-car pile-ups add to the thrill, along with abundant interviews, pit-lane excitement, in-cockpit cameras for virtually every driver, and crash footage that will have you reaching for a sofa seatbelt. The bonus disc, "Road to Daytona 2003," provides a thorough study of pre- and post-season development and testing, adding greater dimension and drama to the biggest race of them all. Although it's preaching to the choir, Winston Cup 2002 is thrilling enough to attract new converts to the increasingly popular world of NASCAR. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better late than never!
First off, let me expand on the previous reviewers review! This is definitely for you if you are a Nascar fan. However, I am a big Nascar fan, do I love the sport?, YES, do I eat, sleep and crap Nascar? No. This DVD is primarily your basic 2 hour overview of the Nascar 2002 Winston Cup season. That's it. It shows fastest qualifier, winner of each race, and some interesting moments from a couple of races! That's it! They don't dwell on one particular race at all. Because at 120 minutes and 36 races, including the pre season festivities before Daytona, that leaves only about 3 minutes or less to summarize each race! And to me, that' not enough, I like to see certain highlights, off track moments, etc. As for the bonus footage, the interview with Tony Stewart is actaully pretty priceless. By the way I am being sarcastic! Tony's interview is definitely worth viewing (all 12 minutes of it), because he looks to be on drugs. His comments include, I love racing, I am competitive, I don't have problems with other drivers, I love sports interviewers, I am not that crazy driver who decked every reporters lights out!!! I mean it is so well scripted and rehearsed it makes you want to puke! Tony is soo tame during the interview it makes you wonder if he really does shave his legs. As for the bonus DVD, it's OK. Just a 45 minute feature on the bid Race and the events leading up to it. My bottomline, this is not essential. You don't release a DVD of the 2002 Winston Cup season right before the 2003 Winston Cup season is closing. It just doesn't make sense!!!!! If this would have came out in November/December of 2002 it would have been better because the season was still fresh in our memories. As for me, it's no big deal. If you are a Nascar fanatic and need to own everything Nascar, then by all means give Nascar 20 more dollars!

Better than an all-day pit pass, Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Any Given Day offers an all-access invitation to a week in the life of NASCAR's reigning superstar. For fans of "Little E," this professionally made home movie is Jr.'s way of saying "thanks for your support" while giving those same fans an idea of how challenging fame can be when you're the heir to NASCAR royalty. Without a single mention of Dale Sr.'s fatal accident in 2001, it's clear that Jr. bears the burden of his father's racing legacy, added to the punishing demands of an exhausting public-appearance schedule, boring photo sessions and TV commercial shoots, practice and qualifying runs, and weekends devoted to pursuing the Winston (now Nextel) Cup championship. And yet, this day-by-day video journal also shows Jr. enjoying the prime of his life, kickin' back or hunting with his buds (the "Dirty Mo Posse"), hangin' with his shop crew, getting fitted for expensive suits, or relishing a tour of his new and secretly located home in North Carolina. Oh, yeah... there's also some NASCAR action, including Jr.'s win at the Checkers Auto Parts 500 (Nov. 2, 3003) and loss to Michael Waltip at Talladega. Overall, however, Any Given Day is a revealing look at the pros and cons of fame and fortune, with Dale Jr. keeping it real in a whirlwind of high-speed living. Even if you're not a fan, it's a behind-the-scenes NASCAR portrait you won't want to miss. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME DVD TO HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION
This is a great DVD to watch over and over again and get the true meaning of being a superstar. You go behind the scenes and really see the fast action in Dale Jr.'s life. IT'S A MUST HAVE!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dale's Life, or why I wouldn't want to be a NASCAR driver.
First a disclaimer: I am not a regular NASCAR fan. I just picked it up to see what all the hubbub was about.

First and foremost, this is a fun DVD. No question. The concept of "a week in the life" is a great one and the film itself, the "story", is well executed and really engagaing. I must say he shows a lot of class in picking a race that he didn't win to go into detail at the end. You have to figure that with number of cars and races, driving team lose more often than they win, so showing that is being real. And the music is worth the price of the DVD alone. The man has great taste in music. And the extras are fun too. If Dale Jr. ever wants to give up racing, he has a solid career ahead of him producing music videos and MTV reality shows.

Dale is mellow and funny and when he's talking to the camera you really feel he's being straight forward about what his life and racing are like. When he's hanging out with friends and family, you see the terminal, albeit charming and fun, teenager he is. The charm with which manages to needle, prod and harasses everyone and not get his block knocked off it is obvious someone is a professional youngest sibling. :D All kidding aside, you can see a lot the goofing around is blowing off steam. The amount of patience and commitment to his duty to the fans and his sponsors totally belies his boyish rambuncousness during his "downtimes". God knows, I would hate to have to live with the amount of media and PR he has to. Good Gawd! It's insane. You almost feel the relief with him when it finally gets to race weekend, and then you've gotten to the best part. I wish they could have spent a little more time on the cars, the tracks and racing in general. As a newbie you do learn a lot, but it leaves you hungry for more.

Which I suppose is the point. Sneaky NASCAR.

For the non-NASCAR person, despite the fact that it was made for NASCAR fans, the video is a great introduction to the world of stock car racing and you will be sure to get sucked in. Definately worth checking out.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
If you are a Dale Jr fan, this dvd is for you!! I'm a hardcore fan and I loved this.It shows the other side of Dale off the track, him with his buddies and just hangin out.He lets you into his life which it pretty neat considering not many other drivers have done that.In the hidden footage you even get to see his cat Bud which adorable!!!He shows off his new home and the shop.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love Jr!
This DVD was well worth every dollar. it is really cool! it does have great footage of dale on and off the track. He takes you to DEI in the garage where they work on the cars. you see the crew as well. it features his friends and drivers such as tony stewart and the Victory Junction Gang commercial with Kyle Petty. you go to thanksgiving dinner with the earnhardt's which is cool because kelly and kerry are in it. awesome. plus you get a tour of his new house! great bonus features. it proves that he is a real genuine guy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Dale Earnhardt Jr. DVD - Well Worth Buying
The DVD was excellent. My husband and I are big Jr. fans and enjoyed this DVD very much. It really gives you a perspective of what its like to be Dale Earnhardt Jr. and what his life is like in and outside the track. I would recommend this DVD very much. 3-0 out of 5 stars THIS DVD WILL DISAPPOINT CORE (spelled o-l-dt-i-m-e) FANS
Although the title of this DVD is NASCAR Adrenaline, I believe it should be named "NASCAR Light".Using the words "NASCAR" and "Adrenaline" together invokes images of nose-to-tail or side-by-side racing, bumpin' and bangin, and yes, wreckin'.This meager effort, instead continues NASCAR's recent trend to generate a larger fan base via an enhanced focus on political correctness.

This trend has manifested itself in the "pussifying" of the sport via rules changes, censuring drivers who dare to speak their minds or, gasp, express anger. All this is the name of the almighty buck.

The above comment aside, this DVD does not include scenes from the wealth of archival footage of many truly awesome racing and, yes wrecks.Richard Petty's slide into the end of the pit lane wall, Bobby Allison's career ending crash, and some wrecks from the beach days at Daytona or the early days at Darlington are painfully omitted.More conspicuous in it's absence is in-car camera footage from the "upside down" wrecks, which is guaranteed to create viewer vertigo.

Finally, although it is an unfortunate result, death is a fact of the sport; no wrecks that resulted in driver or pit crew death were shown.Any true NASCAR fan will agree that "rubbin' (paint) is racin'" and that sometimes drivers lose their lives. Ignoring this fact does not make it go away.I'm not advocating a "Faces of Death" type orgy of the macabre. More simply, I would appreciate a more realistic portrayal of a thrilling, exciting and, yes, violent sport.

After viewing this DVD I felt the way I did after viewing the NASCAR IMAX film, "WHERE's THE BEEF?" ... Read more

First off let me just say that this video is a bit dated, it follows Rusty thru the 2001 season.Other than that this is a very good insight into the highs and lows associated with NASCAR.This video shows the life of the whole whole team, not just the driver (these guys can make a pit stop in 13 secs. but they sure can't sing kareoke.)Very well shot and edited, with lots of interviews. 4-0 out of 5 stars real rush
I have to admit the first one was good but not really good but part 2 and 4 are really good Im looking to buy the other one right now.If your in to street racing you will like this and all the other. It is the best of all the import racing videos that I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
Mischief is the first of 3 volumes. Its packed with tons of action including burnouts, donuts, bikes, and hot imports. If your into street racing than this is the video, you might also want to check out the other videos from mischif coming soon. Its the best 60 min. video ever. This is the real fast and fuious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Guilty Pleasures
Don't listen to the complaint about less than average film quality. While I can't object to this, to get movie quality shots, you would need movie quality equipment. This would have to be set up, adjusted, and prepared; things that would be nearly impossible to do to catch shots of street racing. This a sport that is a fast-paced and on the moment, and leaves as quickly as it comes. The only thing that can realistically capture this kind of footage is a handheld camcorder. While you may complain about the quality of the picture, this is the best it could get for this particular type of film. If you were to ask me, I would tell you that this is extremely entertaining. It's rough and gritty appearance only adds to its underground appeal. To the those that would judge this harshly, consider this one of those guilty pleasures that you watch but don't tell your friends about. To everyone else, this a great film to watch and great fun as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
They got it right on the cover. It says "This video blows" i guess I should've heeded the warning. I would've been better entertained by dropping my money in a paper shredder.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, but NOT excellent

This DVD is good in the respect that the "sling-shots"are vintage~But it really fails to bring back the great days of early Drag-racing.Picture qulity is excellant~narration was non exsistant~If you like the old "Rails" the movie is good
