5-0 out of 5 stars If you have no time or are a beginner, buy this
8 minute arms are fast and easy, and you can do it without weights or with weights (or soup cans if you don't have weights). 8 minute legs are easy, and you use your chair or couch, perfect for the beginner. 8 minute abs are a bit difficult, definetly work your way into those. 8 minute buns are not for the weak kneed, you definitly need an exercise mat. All the workouts are so fast, it doesn't even feel like your working out.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think I like it...
When I looked at the title, I thought - what the hey - only 8 minutes. I can do that.

I rec'd it from AMZN a couple days ago and brought it home, popped it in the DVD player and away I went. So far so good.

The workouts are fairly precise, SHORT and short. Short is good for those of us who don't care to work out except for a nice walk outdoors.

The lead guy is tolerable - he's built which makes me have the illusion that if I do these workouts 8 min. each day I'll become buff :) His outfit often takes attention away from the video though....it's white w/ black stripes and suspenders - straight out of the 80's. The music? Blechhhh. Corny corny corny. BUT - you're not getting this for the music - you're getting this because it's ONLY 8 minutes a day, which if I can handle it? Anyone can :)

The "legs" workout is alright - I've only done it once so far. The "buns" workout rocks. Really felt the results, especially the next day. The "arms" workout is just OK without weights, but adding even 2 or 5 pounds to each arm really makes a big difference.

One of the best things about this is that it's short but it also has a constant countdown in the corner of the screen. It keeps track of how many seconds you have for the current exercise and how many minutes total you have left for your workout. I really like that.

I plan on alternating "buns" and "legs" every other morning and doing "arms" each day regardless.

All in all I would recommend this DVD set. I also ordered the Winsor pilates DVD and will enjoy seeing the difference in presentation and results. BUY this - certainly doing 8 minutes a day is much better than doing nothing at all. If not for your physique, for your self esteem :)

5-0 out of 5 stars 8 Minute Workouts Review
Terrific! These are virtually perfect. Who doesn't have just 8 minutes? If I don't have time to workout I can at least find 8 minutes to do one of these workouts.

Each of the two DVDs includes bonus workouts that range from 10 - 20 minutes long. So if you don't have time to do a full workout, you can do a 10 minute sample and one of the 8 minute workouts. This is a great addition to the DVDs.

I highly recommend these. The 8 minute buns and abs really take some time to build up to their level, but since the exercises are not timed to the background music you can work at your own speed! And they have minute and second countdowns in the lower corner of the screen so you can take a 5 or 10 second break until the next set of exercises starts! These are AWESOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD
I have tried many other workouts but this one gave me the best results in a shorter amount of time. Each workout is 8 minutes long so it is easy to fit into your busy day. I have had knee surgeries on both knees and cannot do most of the excerise programs on the market but with the 8 minutes workouts I have lost one inch off my waist, legs and buns in 6 weeks. This DVD is excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I was Looking For!!!!
on the days that i go running i like to come back and do a quick toning exercise... just so i feel like i covered all the bases. i was bored with doing the normal crunches and am not familiar enough with free weights to put together my own routine. these videos are perfect.. eight minutes is a perfect amount of time and it's nice to have some instruction. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout
I use this video three times a week and I love it. I stretch out before I turn the video on, then I work out for a half-hour and quit. The video is almost two hours, so I get four work outs before I have to start the video over again. I like it because I get a better variety than my normal taebo videos, and they are all the more advanced workouts. Only buy this video if you are in pretty good shape, or you will get frustrated from the start. A couple of times during the video they seem to cut the reps short, and you have only worked out one side of your body. But other than that one flaw, this is one of my favorite workout videos, and has kept me in shape over this long winter.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad son bad!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not effective
This DVD makes you sweat BUT not effective. They have put many different classes on one DVD and it jumps from one exercise to the next very quickly. There are some routines that are only done on the left or right side...not both. Don't waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another addition to TaeBo
I am in my mid-twenties and have worked out to TaeBo Live series about 6 months before trying these. So I consider myself to be in fair to average "shape", and I still had a very tough time with the floor exercises that come at the end of each workout. The grueling but rather effective floor exercises are when I felt the actual abs and glute muscles 'work' the most. You will be on your feet the first portion of these workouts doing traditional TaeBo moves. These Ultimate Abs and Butt are both advanced workouts compared to my experience with TaeBo. In other words, if you try these having not worked out in a while or are out of shape, they'll be considerably difficult to finish (especially the floor exercises). You need to have completed at least the TaeBo Instructional and preferrably the TaeBo Basic programs before you attempt this. Billy Blanks is a good motivator, but it's slighty annoying that he doesn't finish each repetition set with you (you'll see). He demonstrates the movement several times then moves around to the other class members that are working out as he "cheerleads" them and the viewer to complete the reps. I would rather see him complete each workout as the viewer has to do. The upbeat music is in tune with the exercises and is motivating. These workouts are not perfect and while each movement is adequately demonstrated sometimes the reps move too quickly which can be dangerous to keep proper positioning. The reps for each side for example left and right leg are NOT always even. Lastly, this is a series of several different classes worth of exercises (supposedly the butt and abs targeting portions) assembled as a complete workout. That is to say, you can see Billy's and the class members outfits change every few minutes. That is different from the TaeBo Live programs which are start to finish taped workouts with the same people exercising. That difference may not bother many people, but I prefer the live style. Though not suggested in/ on the product, I think that you will need an exercise mat to be comfortable on the floor for as long as the abs and butt floor exercises take (better for back of head, knees and general comfort). You luckily don't need any special equipment, but a chair to hold on to for the standing part of the workout might help. The butt workout is around 40 minutes, and the abs workout is just under an hour. Overall, I don't regret purchasing as I got two different, complete workouts on one DVD, and I would recommend this product given my guidelines above. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a beginner / starting out
Almost 10 years ago, I got these in video form.As a beginner, who had a total lifestyle change to include my diet, Mrs. Fonda's Personal Trainer series really helped me lose weight, tone up, and be fit. I lost 20 lbs and have kept it off.I also had success after I had my son when I used her videos in combination with a 2 mile run 5 days a week. I also recieved complements on how my body looked, many people would ask me if I was a gymnast!:) Her workouts and fitness philosophy are right on.I highly recommend this series for anyone just starting out. They are easy on the joints, and have three women who demonstrate basic, intermediate, and advanced levels in each workout, as well as lead some of the workouts, so its not all Jane. The workouts really have some great basic moves for learning about the body in toning and stretch. The aerobics get the heart rate up, and the moves are simple. The aerobics section does require a little bit of space, enough to walk about 5 paces in each direction. I've moved up in my fitness level, but I still use this series for toning, stretch and when I just want to burn a few extra calories. I alternate my workouts with other videos like Gilad, Kaehler, and the 8min(ABS/BUNS)etc series, and I recommend these too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A remarkable lady indeed!
[...] If shoppers have something against Jane Fonda and wish not to buy her films or fitness videos that's fine but they should not be publicly allowed to encourage others do to the same.

Yes Miss Fonda made mistakes in the past for which she has profusely apologized on national television and in her biography `My life so far'. But whatever one's feelings, it is impossible to deny this woman's talent, intellect, complexity, dynamism and the contributions she has made (and still continues to make) to our society. Through her humanitarian work, Jane has more than made up for her past mistakes. She is a gifted vital figure, always challenging and dedicated. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and inspiring women of our time. A truly remarkable lady indeed!

Regarding her fitness videos, buy them without hesitations. I have used all of them except for a couple. They are very safe, beautifully made and if used correctly, extremely efficient. Jane huge range of videos has something for everyone whatever your age and fitness level. Jane is very motivating and a great example that we can stay fit and strong for ever if we look after ourselves. I would recommend Jane's video to anyone wanting to become fit, strong and healthy and stay that way.

Jane Fonda is back with a biography `My life so far' and a new film `Monster in law' with Jennifer Lopez. Welcome back Jane and whishing you all the best!

4-0 out of 5 stars To the point and worth it.
I'm a dude and was only interested in getting right to the abs, wihtout the fluff and without the care to "fastforward" using a VHS. I'm already fit and just needed an extra "side" to get me motivated to do the abs more.

Pros: Good 15 minute workout. I recommend recording the DVD audio to tape/CD/Mini-Disk (one that you use in the gym) and listen to it while doing your abs on the floor. Great way to focus on the abs and to focus your attention. 3 workouts which get progressively harder. (I don't watch the buns.)

Cons: The DVD's audio is not properly leveled. You'll notice its volume levels rising and falling in some areas. She get's 4 stars for it!! Not to mention she goofed on the count in one of the excercises. (Where was the editing crew?!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay video
This video isn't too bad. I was a little dispointed. I think the abs part is better than the buns. There are two things that bother me about this tape. The first is that many of the workout routines require a good balancing abilty. I would prefer to just worry about the workout instead of thinking about having to balance. The second annoyance I have is that several times throughout the workout, she says "one more" or "last one" and then will do 3 or 4 more reps. It is a great ab workout, but as I said, the buns part is disapointing

4-0 out of 5 stars THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL!!
I am not usually a fan of exercise videos because I feel like they never work! However, this has changed my mind! I was doing it for about a month off and on before I bought it and now I do it everyday. I can't believe the changes I am seeing in my abs! The one thing I would say is I don't care for the warmups so I usually do my own cardio for about 10min. Like riding my recumbent bike and some stretches. I am a 26yr old male so if your a guy don't worry this is not too corny and it really works!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the purchase....
Tamilee Webb is very focused throughout this workout. There are 3 ab exercises and 3 bun exercises. Different workouts with maximum results. If you are a fan of her I Want That Body DVD, which is top notch for ab and arm workouts, you will not be disappointed. She reiterates about the importance of taking care of your body, performing cardio exercises and addressing the other parts of your body that is not addressed in this DVD. If you are looking for cardio, get Billy Blanks, this is not a cardio workout. It is a focused workout for specific muscle groups, listed above. Finally, there are plenty of bogus DVD workouts on the market, this is not one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamilee Does it Again!
Maybe I'm biased because I own most of the "Buns, Arms, Abs, Legs, etc. of Steel" videos and then got hooked on the "I Want that Body" workout but the "Quick Toning - Abs & Buns of Steel" is another hit.

There are three 10 minute abs workouts that include a decent 4 minute warm up and a quick 3 minute cool down for a total 17 minute workout. This is great for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of time for a workout but needs results. I've been working out for most of my life and couldn't believe the burn that I felt from some of the new ab moves. This is a great way to keep those muscles challenged.

The bun workout is the same format as the abs and has equally wonderful warm ups, excersizes and cool downs.

One other nice quality of this video is that the video goes almost immediately from the FBI warning to the menu. No long introduction that shows all of the sponsors' logos.

I did at least one section of this video a day and ate a healty diet and I noticed a difference. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good basic stuff
If you're looking for a how to belly dance this is not the DVD for you. If you expect these women to tell you how many "aerobic certifications" and "how many repititons" then this is not for you. That being said, if you've been to aerobic classes, you should remember proper body positioning so you don't hurt yourself. This is a basic assortment of issolated belly dance movements arranged in a traditional "aerobic class" style with the goal of getting you to move. The fact that it's belly dance makes it fun and does serve as a distraction from the muscles screaming "I can't move this way!" I particularly enjoyed the arm segment because it worked the muscles I need to sustain these moves in my dance (snake arms being the bain of my exsistance). As I continue to work with this DVD, my arms are grudgingly cooperating and I have found that my abs are starting to get with the program too. I also liked the hips segment for the same reasons.
I gave this 4 stars because the voice over track was off a little in my copy. Could be my DVD player but I loaned it to a friend who had the same problem. Also the instuctions weren't always accurate with the moves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really fun workout!
I've been working out for about 6 months now and lost a total of 35 lbs through diet and exercise. I've tried many different workouts - Richard Simmons, Tae Bo, Mari Winsor Pilates - and this is one of the funnest workouts yet! For a beginner this would be a great video to try because it's fun and goes by quick. I've found that videos like Tae Bo, while great, get boring after a while. This is a great way to mix it up a little bit! I have been using this and The Method Afro-Brazilian dance and really enjoy it! The voice over doesn't bother me - I can see how it might be difficult to talk while doing these moves. Neena and Veena's wonderful physiques make me want to do even better - and now I've developed an interest in Bellydance! Don't worry if you're more heavy set - it's still fun and no one's going to be watching! And - the only way to get those beautiful belly dancing bodies is to exercise - you gotta start somewhere! Try this video!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really enjoy this one
My biggest problem was trying to find a work out that I liked. This is one of them. I do it everyday and I feel real good about myself. For a person that has not worked out in long time this is a good one to get toned. It is not really for cardio. So if you want something more fast paced you might want to check out different routine, but for toning it is pretty good and fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars best workout tape I've tried
My aerobics videos experiences are by no means diverse, but after just a week this is already my favorite DVD, and has actually gotten me to stick to a routine of working out first thing in the morning because it's so enjoyable.

Gone are the obnoxious perky shrieks and whoops like I hear from Kathy Smith and crew; the voiceover doesn't bother me, and the music is soothing, not cheesy and thudding. The relaxed tone almost leads me to believe I'm not even doing much work--which I assure you is NOT the case. The first couple of rounds of these two workouts made me sore, sore, sore, in some places I didn't even realise I was sore until I did the exercises again. There are very few segments of the workouts that I truly "dread" (all who have done the leg lift in Arms & Abs will know exactly what I mean) but I've seen remarkable improvement in my muscle tone and flexibility in just a few weeks. I'm not as clumsy as I used to be, and just in day-to-day activities find myself with better posture and muscle usage.

And no, these workouts will not teach you HOW to bellydance, but the moves are nice and I'm confident that when I start taking actual bellydancing classes this fall I will not have nearly as much trouble with either moves or endurance. Some of the moves took me several exercise sessions to figure out, but they've all been worth it. I feel great and can't wait to try more routines with Neena and Veena, who are beautiful and talented.

5-0 out of 5 stars FIVE STARS
Very good workout. First time my tummy & my thighs where burning the next day.
On the DVD there are several preformances by the twins at the end. Different style by both of the twins. I htink there are about 4 or 5 dances.
Its worth it to me just for the preformance footage.
AWESOME workout & not overly strenious. You will be sweating by the end. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Workout!
I just bought this DVD and first used it today. The workout is pretty simple and easy to follow along with. Just make sure that the stability ball you buy is big! I made the mistake of assuming that it would not really matter what size ball I got, and the cover of the DVD did not specify. But It was very hard to do some of the steps with a small ball-almost impossible. Also I did not really like the butt and legs section of the workout, some of the moves were too complicated and I was doing them all wrong so I didnt feel anything in my legs. The Abs part was great though! I think I will just do the warm up and abs part of this video over and over and skip the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for bad backs
I recently bought this video to use with my stability ball and am very happy with it. Normally, the exercise videos annoy me (don't forget to breathe....) but this one doesn't. It is very specific, which is great so that I don't accidentally hurt myself. It is also really good for bad backs...the exercises are tough but don't put stress on your back at all. I would highly recommend this video. The only thing that I wish was different about it is the length. I would rather have a longer workout than just 20 minutes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Easy
I am in shape and have extensive experience w/ fitness...This is an easy routine on the ball. You can feel some results if you work it hard, otherwise, good to do if your sick.

3-0 out of 5 stars Happy w/ my investment
I was lucky enough to go into Costco and buy a kit that had "BLT" and "Strong and Streamline" DVD's that included the body ball, the green genies and a workout matt for just over 20 bucks. Heck I was hoping to just find the ball at that price.

I also bought the book "PowerSculpt: The Women's Body Sculpting & Weight Training Workout Using the Exercise Ball" and I have gotten more use out of the ball with that book. I highly recommend that book.

With BLT I can do the stretch in the morning before I get on my Nordik Track Elliptical for 20-30 minutes and then either do an ab or just the stretch.

For me the lower opening squats are fun and burn, but I don't know if I walk away feeling like I got a good workout. It is more of a mini workout and a great way to get ur body moving arround before you sit in your car and then at work. The abs I feel in my upper abdominals only. I need the DVD in the morning to keep me on schedule... or I would never leave for work.

It is NOT an aerobic workout. Nor is it a serious workout.

All said, I love my body ball and I have just ordered another DVD "Quick Fix - Stability Ball Workout" and "Pilates on the Ball" in an effort to find the perfect body ball workout. I wish the author of "PowerSculpt: The Women's Body Sculpting & Weight Training Workout Using the Exercise Ball" would put out a video w/ the workouts. I have been into Pilates for over a year now and I am looking forward to my exercise ball to take me to new levels.

1-0 out of 5 stars B.L.T. = boring, low energy, tiresome
I regret buying this. The workout is 25 minutes long, and doesn't come close to breaking a sweat. (The abs and legs routines are about 10 minutes each, followed by 5 minutes of stretching.) I'm reintroducing myself to exercise and thought this would be a fun way to start, but it's not, especially since i feel like i'm not accomplishing anything. (I suspect intermediate and advanced exercisers will feel even worse.)

Karen Voight is a better trainer than most. She doesn't suffer from hyper-perkiness that can irritate exercisers. However, her counts often feel "off" to me, which is either a result of bad editing or bad musical selections. All in all, this isn't worth the money I spent on it. Find yourself a better, longer and more challenging DVD - this is coming from a couch potato, which should tell you a lot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Who'd have thought it?
That stretching could tone you up so much, even improving definition?? I love Miranda, she is barking (in a good way) and her workouts are excellent. I'm a chronic back pain sufferer, so I use her Back Pain Relief DVD (amazingly fine) and like it so much I bought this as well, which has two 30-minute workouts that the brave could do back-to-back for a REALLY hard hour. Not that I'm that brave... It has something in common with isometric programmes like Lotte Berk's and the Bar Method but I find it even better, and I do feel that stretching is helping my back issues as well. Really terrific, great value and good fun. Oh, and because Miranda isn't some kid, I do feel this programme is encouraging for all. ... Read more

Description

Belly dance is perfect for sculpting buns & thighs since so many moves are driven by the glute, thigh, and hip muscles.

If you are familiar with bellydance, these exercise sessions will help you improve or polish your technique by encouraging a consistent focus on incorporating glute contraction in your hipwork. Glute work added to hip isolations and combined moves helps increase your hips' range of motion and make accents sharp and expressive.

If you are new to bellydance, learn and practice belly dance steps during this workout, then follow Neon as she demonstrates a choreographed 2-min. dance! The dance can be accessed separately for review before leaving for a dance club or party. Personal trainer Andy Troy, CSCS offers exercise safety tips throughout the program.

Each of the three 15-min. exercise/dance sessions includes: 3-min. warmup; 9-min. exercise session; 2-min. dance sequence (2-3 reps of each move/combination from the exercise session arranged into an attractive choreography); 1-min. cooldown.

* Onscreen graphics offer visual tips to the use of glutes and thigh muscles in bellydance.

* During the 2-min. dance sequences, graphics of the move trajectories serve as visual cues;

* A progress bar shows the number of reps for each move, plus marks the rep you are currently performing.

* Anatomy of belly dance movement -- comments by personal trainer Andy Troy CSCS

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sequel to her "Abs" video
I got both Neon's DVDs from her fitness series, "Abs" and "Buns and Thighs", I've reviewed "Abs" ("Bellydance for Body Shaping: Abs") and everything I said about that DVD applies here. Neon has an excellent understanding of bellydance isolations technique and so her fitness videos use isolations very creatively and ingeniously to result in a lot of toning work in the areas she targets.
I am very impressed with both DVDs, and use them in my workouts. I love it that every single movement in her fitness videos is an actual dance move. I don't like mixing crunches and bellydance undulations.
She serves her fitness routines in 15 minute installments (3 on each DVD) ending each routine in a drum solo choreography. I love her choreographies, and her style, I must admit I am a fan. Neon moves in a way I've never seen anyone move like this, she is fluid to the max like she has no bones, but you can only see that on her performance DVDs. Her fitness routines are beginner intermediate, although a few moves on both DVDs are closer to "intermediate-advanced" like the 3/4 sideways travel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good exercise for novices
Over the past couple of days, I've been doing the workouts on Bellydance for Body Shaping: Buns and Thighs. The DVD is broken into three short workouts, each of which focuses on the glutes and thighs.Neon's warmups incorporate squats, lunges, and stretches, and then she teaches a short choreography which could also be used in performance or out clubbing.

Although the movements do indeed work on the advertised muscle groups, if you are already in shape, you will not find the exercises demanding. However, if you are new to exercise or to the isolation work of Middle Eastern dance, you may find these exercises challenging.

Personal trainer Andy Roy offers safety tips during the video so novices will not injure themselves.

Neon makes use of diagrams which show the shape and direction of each of her movements. In most cases, this can clarify thingsto viewers who may otherwise be mystified by unfamiliar movements. However, I noticed at a couple of points that the directional arrows were pointing the wrong way, and that threw me for a loop.It didn't take me long to figure it out, though, so it's not a very big deal.

On the negative side, Neon's costume is a dark red, and her background is black. There are times during the video when it is difficult to see exactly what is going on because she fades into her background.A more brightly-coloured costume would have made her movements easier to see.

Also, considering the video appears to be aimed more toward novices, I think her demonstration of the hamstring stretch would have been better shot from the side.To someone unfamiliar with the stretch, her forward lean might not make much sense.

All in all, I would recommend the video to people on their way to getting in shape, and also to dancers looking for an opportunity to practice their moves. If you're already in great shape, you will want to find something much more demanding.I didn't break a sweat during these workouts, and my heartrate only accelerated slightly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!!!!!
If you are serious about getting in shape but you don't have a lot of time then I definitely recommend these routines, especially when you include Abs & Arms. Unless you are already in excellent shape you will definitely feel the burn, in a good way. After about a month and a half I definitely notice the difference, I can now complete the leg workout non-stop, and can hold my own during the bun workout. I alternate days of these isolated workouts and some sort of cardio work, so my results are probably going to take longer than those more dedicated to these particular workouts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy, but great work out!
Once you look passed the cheesy instructor and the 90s haircuts and pay attention to the excercises... you'll get a wonderful work out!

And it's great for people who have a busy day... just wake up a little early and dedicate 8 minutes of your life everyday to this DVD series and you'll start noticing the change within weeks!

5-0 out of 5 stars A workout that BURNSSSSS!
This workout REALLY BURNS... Even after 3 weeks use, I pant & sweat as soon as I finish the workout. I dread putting the DVD into the player because I know I'll pause every now and then & consume lots of energy.... Yet, I recommend it and raise two thumbs up for this DVD! Very time convenient!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money...
They spent about 8 minutes and 8 bucks putting together this cheesy video. Production is not as good as some school video projects. There are two very bored people in the back who look like they don't want to be there. The 'person' in the front is a pretty boy in shorts made of tights material. They are extra tight to show off his little package that the camera man zooms in on from time to time. This guy is way to in love with himself. I might like this video if I was GAY.

I gave it a whooping 2 stars... If you could tolerate watching it you will get a good workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I love these 8-minute workouts! I have both the buns/legs and arms/abs DVD. It's super easy to squeeze in one or two 8 minute sessions in the morning before work plus they really do seem to work. Best of all the people aren't annoying or boring. One thing that's really cool is that there is no counting -- they tally reps by time (eg: 30 seconds doing this, 1 minute doing that, etc.). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ready, set, go buy this one!
Lilias Folans "Flowing Postures" series is what I encourage beginners and the yoga curious to begin with. No matter how "in shape" we may look and feel without good posture we are out of shape. The posture supports our entire body. The first video has gentle movements to tone and build strength in the upper arms w ithout building large muscles. Strong toned long lean muscles is the message here.
.
"serenity now" features slow, rhythmical breathing with relaxing postures that will help you to unwind and quiet that inner chatter. Come on you know you think too much . This will help you get centered while in the background beautiful, soothing music is playing.

As you gain strength and balance move on to the last video a wonderful cardio workout. Lilias is my favorite instructor . I first discovered her in the seventies on PBS. I think if not mistaken. She had a show either really late at night or really early in the morning. Which can be one and the same I suppose.

5-0 out of 5 stars yoga homework
I've been attending a yoga class once a week for awhile. Before I received this set, I was stiff at the beginning of each class. I couldn't remember all the positions or the order in which they should proceed. With this set and another Lilias 2 box set, I can practice 6 days a week and attend my class on the 7th day, fully prepared and flexible. Lilias is the WOMAN. I practiced with her in the 70s on a PBS station and feel that I've reunited with an old friend. I can only hope that I've aged as gracefully as this gentle woman. I love these tapes and hope you will also.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's made a difference in my life!
I never thought I'd be able to do yoga because of an old back injury. Most yoga videos have too much twisting and strain for beginners or the skittish folks like me. But Lilias Folan's yoga series is wonderful. The four tapes give me enough variety so I never get tired of these routines, and they have made a real difference in how good I look and feel. They're designed so I can make them more challenging as my conditioning improves. My wife, who is in good shape, also enjoys these tapes. It's truly Yoga for everyone! Lilias has a warm, non-intimidating manner, and unlike some of the popular yoga videos, it doesn't waste time on fancy settings and show-offy postures. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stress reduction you'll want to stick with
After being sedentary for a couple of years (grad school combined with a full-time job will do that to you), I decided it was time to exercise again. I tried a few tapes but Lilias's were the ones that really hooked me. I love the variety of the tapes -- I do all four over the course of a week and feel that I'm getting a good all-over workout. I always feel completely de-stressed after doing the tapes, and I'm quite a high-strung person. If I have any complaints, it's that "Serenity Now" is perhaps the least relaxing of the four. I'd been hoping for something a bit more meditative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga For Everyone
Why is this video set so wonderful? 1. There are four tapes. One concentrates on the mind, the other two on specific parts of your body and the final on cardiovascular fitness. We all know if your mind isn't into it, sometimes you just can't push yourself to workout. It's true a run or vigorous workout does wonders for releasing stress, but you must get yourself to the workout! How many times do you decide to just sit and vegetate rather than make it to the gym or go for that run? With the "Serenity Now" video, you can calm your mind and also give your body a gentle workout that may precede the more intense three videos in the series. The "Legs and Buns" video and the "Arms and Abs" video both concentrate on specific muscle groups and parts of the body. They contain intense yet peaceful, flowing postures that really work muscles you don't even know you had! The "Cardio Challenge" video is much the same and concetrates on a series of repetitive postures, beginning slowly and quickening the pace so you're performing flowing exact movements that will definitely get that heart rate up and make the brow sweat a bit. The key here is that they're intense but they don't involve a lot of jumping around. You can obtain just as good a workout through the peacefulness and serenity of yoga than if you were to take an aerobics step class with loud pounding music and twenty or thirty others jumping around you. 2. Lilias is not concerned with fancy footwear or body baring leotards. She is a beautiful woman and not your average every day gym rat in your local workout meat market. She has a very calm presence and one that's soothing and encouraging as well. She speaks in a pleasant, calm voice and warns you of problems you might encounter while going through the combinations of poses. Her demeanor belies the tremendous strength, agility and ability with which she performs the yoga poses. It's clear she's been doing this for years and years. In fact, when I was younger, I would watch her series on PBS as she had a yoga workout program on there for quite some time. 3. You don't need 1000 square feet of shining hardwood floors to use these videos. In fact, the exercises are completed barefoot and in comfortable clothes that allow movement, not restrict it. The postures are completed in a small space so you don't have to move that coffee table! 4. You don't need yoga mats or a block although you may find these things nice to have as you advance in your practice. Lilias suggests using pillows or a belt in place of the former and these work just as well. 5. The videos appeal to a wide range of people. I am a housewife and freelance writer. I am not athletic but manage to stay fit with my daily routine and by eating sensibly. My husband, on the other hand, is an army officer who runs quite a bit. I would say he's in prime physical condition. We started doing the videos together and not only do they appeal to the both of us and they're something we can do together at the end of a long day, they get his heart rate up as well, and they're much less taxing on the joints compared to running three or so miles a day as he's done. 6. The videos are short but provide the necessary daily workout time period. Each video is around 35 minutes in length so you're not saying, "I have no time to do an hour video." Just 35 minutes works wonders. They're such fun and I feel so good after doing one, I often do another and sometimes another. 7. They really do work! I'm not going to fib here. I don't enjoy exercise unless it has to do with swimming. I've never subscribed to high (or low for that matter!) impact aerobics, gym memberships or jogging. I've tried a few other workout videos but they were either too long or involved too much jumping around or were just plain boring. The day after I completed one of Lilias' videos, I could tell a difference in my body, and just this morning, after doing the "Cardio Challenge" with my husband last night, he awoke to pleasantly sore and taut muscles- a sure sign it's working! And, look how long yoga has been around. In my time in Nepal a couple summers ago, I never saw an out of shape yogi! 8. The pleasant background music, lovely postures with beautiful names AND a different "cool down" for each of the videos adds to the appeal of this series. Above all, if you find you need something different in your life in the way of exercise, and you're looking for a way to simplify your life (time to go to the gym...money for a membership or classes) and bring more peacefulness and serenity to your presence and being, these videos are definitely for you. ...
