4-0 out of 5 stars Good Pilates workout for targeting the lower body
In this video, Kathy Smith offers a very good Pilates workout which specifically targets the lower body. She begins with a 6-minute instructional section which addresses fundamentals of Pilates. In this section, Kathy provides excellent descriptions of basic Pilates concepts such as breathing techniques; the c-curve, pelvic scoop, and neutral spine alignments; engaging the hamstrings; and the Pilates powerhouse. This is a great introduction if you have never done Pilates before, but once you are familiar with Pilates principles, you can skip over this section.

The actual workout consists of 25 minutes of Pilates mat work. Kathy begins with classic Pilates exercises such as the hundred, leg circles, and shoulder bridge; her assistant, Lija, shows modifications for each exercise. After doing several moves lying on her back, Kathy flips over to lie on her stomach for some work more targeted on the hamstrings and glutes (for the exercises done while on the stomach, Kathy's instructors are dubbed in via voiceover, which is a little odd given that she uses live instruction for most of the workout). The final section of this workout is performed while lying on your side for the Pilates side kick series. Kathy leads a particularly tough sequence of moves in this series, and you will really feel the work in your outer thigh and hip areas especially. The workout ends with a seated mermaid exercise to provide a nice stretch. If you enjoy Pilates and would like to specifically focus on your legs, hips, and behind, this video would be an excellent choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars You¿ll feel you leg muscles getting leaner and longer!
Of course, Kathy looks amazing!!! Kathy provides an excellent breathing guidance though out the workout. Also the name of each pose is written out so you'll get familiar with common terminology. Initially, Kathy shows the beginners variations and then does the more advanced version herself. On the other hand, her assistant shows the advanced variation the entire time. This is great because the workout could be adapted for any level of flexibility.
In terms of intensity of the workout, one really feels how the leg muscles get involved. I was happy to see some new Pilates exercises that have not been provided in other Pilates workouts (I've seen Denis Austin's and Jennifer Kries'). It's about 30 min and your legs muscles would feel really stretched. One has to be aware of the core muscles as well, so one gets to work the abs at the same time.

One has to be aware of hers/his posture while doing the exercises otherwise one might not get the real benefits. Kathy says in the DVD that "if it feels easy, then you are doing something wrong". If you do them carefully, you'll feel your muscles working.

It is a great workout for lower body and I could see how it helps elongate the muscles. In the future I would probably combine it with another lower body segment and do the Pilates one at the end to stretched the muscles and relax them as well.

I really liked the workout and I am happy I got it. One definitely needs something that focuses on working, relaxing and lengthening the muscles at the same time. That will prevent you from bulking up.

You'll feel you leg muscles getting leaner and longer! Great Pilates workout! Excellent guidance by Kathy Smith!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout
This is an excellent beginning Pilates video. Kathy uses common metaphors to help you relate to the various muscles and poses. She also constantly reminds you of the proper breathing cycle, which is very important in Pilates. It is easy to follow and understand, but you really feel the muscles being worked.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a great workout!
This is the first pilates video I have bought and I love it. It's only 30 minutes and it's perfect if you don't have a lot of time to exercise. The instruction is great and even after a few workouts I'm already starting to notice a difference. I do think it's for beginners so I can see myself needing a more advanced workout eventually. But a great workout overall.

3-0 out of 5 stars a little too slow for my taste.....
i purchased this DVD because it is difficult to find tapes that focus just on the lower body, and i love pilates. i imagine this DVD would be fine for beginners, but i found it to be all instruction. after the tape was finished, i felt as if i learned a lot, but it was not a very good workout. she seemed like a good instructor though. very slow. so sorry. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful and delicately intense yoga video
I love this video. I purchased it a few years ago after taking a series of classes; so I already knew a few poses. As I could no longer afford to take classes, I started looking for a good, soothing video from which to develop a daily routine. This definitely was it: the program moves from a gentle stretching phase to a more vigorous series of poses and then back again. All of the routines emphasize a continuous flow between poses (no jumping around here!) Few of the poses in the video are out of reach for the average beginner and, even more importantly, the video stresses doing only what is comfortably within your range of motion - unlike some live classes!

The only reason I award this video 4 stars instead of 5 is that I found the duration of each segment to not be long enough - the stretching was over before I was sufficiently warmed up, and the more vigorous routines ended before I had had enough, forcing me to divorce my attention from meditating through each pose to locating the remote and rewinding the tape (I'd really love it if these were on DVD). Still, I would recommend this video to anyone who was either developing a passion for yoga or just interested in a deeply relaxing yet invigorating workout!

4-0 out of 5 stars Do beginners by Walden first, if you're an absolute beginner
Very beautiful visually, but that is not what counts after you have used the video every day for a couple of months. The second part is wonderful. The third part I really dislike doing 3 back bends in a row but they say what you dislike is probably what you need to work on. The fourth part is very relaxing though I don't use a bolster(as suggested) and cannot bend all the way to the floor on a front bend sitting. My only Big complaint with this video is that Rodney Yee comes on directly following the relaxation pose, which is the last part of the tape. Either you must reach for the remote control and ruin your state of relaxed mind or else listen to him giving the benefits of doing the video....I prefer Patricia Waldens relaxation at the end of "For Beginners" Overall though practicing this video daily is wonderful: giving you a healthier state of mind and leaving you energized.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR BEGINNERS
I have been doing yoga for 18 months so when this video said it was beginner/intermediate, I figured I fit into that category... he doesn't tell you how to do the poses. Plus it left me feeling really frustrated with my lack of flexibility with the yogis on the video. It really wasn't a good experience. I invested in props to help me through but he goes so fast that you can't keep up. Start somewhere else first- I doubt that most average people will ever approach the level on this tape!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL,, AMAZING!!!
hello, i hve been pactising this video for a while now, before i started this video i was on Patricia Waldens begginers video. ayway, i would just like to say tha this is the most beautiful video in yoga, and the 5 sections are perfectly upto scratch!!
i now find the moves challenging, yet fulfilling.
i have more energy, flexibility, postue and muscle tone.
i would definatly reccomend this, however begginers should use a video for begginners, but once you know the moves, its simple!!!
my sister tried yoga and loves it too!
i am going to train to be a yoga teacher, i have a pssion for yoga, and this video is amazing!!
also, the people who give this a bad rating, im afraid are the ones who are still very much begginners and find it too challenging for them.
i definatly reccommend this video!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Separate practices to meet different needs through the day.
I've been practicing yoga with tapes for about 9 months now and consider myself to be an advanced beginner. This tape was very different from any of the others I've tried, mainly because there was no narrative instruction. The instructor, Rodney Yee, simply states the name of each pose, assuming that you are already familiar with the poses. Therefore, this tape is NOT for beginners who have never done yoga before. However, for those who have already learned the poses elsewhere, the difficulty of this tape is at a beginner or advanced beginner level.

The five sections of the tape are designed to be performed throughout the day based on your needs. The first, Awakening, is 9 minutes of mostly floor stretches and moves very slowly. The second, Centering, is 7 minutes of relatively easy standing poses and is designed to be used in the morning. The third and longest section (15 minutes) is Creativity. This section is designed to be done during the day for energy, and it moves much more quickly than any of the other sections. Although I enjoyed how Rodney flowed from one pose to the other, it moved a little too fast for me--for example, you must very quickly move from downward dog to a standing pose such as proud warrior. One interesting thing was that the standing poses weren't just done on one side of the body and then the other. For example, instead of doing proud warrior left and then proud warrior right, you do proud warrior left, then side stretch right, etc. in a whole sequence before eventually going back and reversing the sequence to do the moves on the other side. Again, I liked the flow, but it moved very fast.

The last two sections really are meant to be done together. First is Reflection, which contains 11 minutes of seated forward bends for tranquility. Finally comes Surrender, 4 minutes in relaxation pose. This is the only time which Rodney provides more instruction, as he leads you through a guided relaxation. At the END of the tape, Rodney talks about the purpose of the workout as well as how to modify the poses, so it would probably be helpful to watch this section first. The scenery is a beautiful beach setting, and the music is softly new-agey (flutes, etc.). For the three middle sections, Rodney has 1-2 others performing the routine along with him.

Although I liked this video, it doesn't really meet my personal needs. I think this workout would be best for someone who can purchase a DVD version, which would make it a lot easier to move between the different workouts. If you are someone who would like to do different types of yoga routines at different times of the day, this tape would be for you. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Love all the workouts but not this one
Well I hate to admit to it but I don't like this workout at all! It was not challenging for me and the bag is the pits. The bag doesn't stay inflated and you can only tap it while working out. I just felt it was a total waste of workout time. Other than this I love all the taebo workouts or at least all the ones I own and I do have qutie a few. Sorry Billy but this one is not a winner.

3-0 out of 5 stars NOTE: "Contact" means barely touching.
Ok, I'm giving this a so-so review. It does get me sweaty, and it is a nice change from my other workout, but the bag is for the birds. It hasn't leaked water on my carpet yet (knock on wood), but it IS basically just a big balloon with a water-filled base. You can't hit it with any force at all -- you have to just lightly tap it. And did you notice the bag you get doesn't look as nice as the one on the front of the box? Minor point maybe, but the ones on the DVD and box cover look more rubberized with a matte finish, while the one I got is shiny like a cheap inflatable raft.

During exercise, the bag turns out to be more of a distraction than an aid, in my opinion. I waste more concentration trying not to hit it too hard than doing the exercises themselves, and I especially hate the sequences that have you crouching on top of the bag while hitting it. Bleh. And what are you supposed to do with that thing when you're not using it? With the water in the base, it's HEAVY. I just drag it next to the wall for everyone to admire because it's too heavy to move to another room. :-p

The workouts themselves definitely get my heart rate up, though, and Tae-Bo is still a lot more fun than leg-lifts, so I'm giving it 3 stars overall. My advice: Skip the "contact" version and get a regular Tae-Bo workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice for a casual day
I was really excited to see this offered in the store and the price wasn't so bad so I bought it. My main problem with this set is the bag; I had a very difficult time filling up the base with just the right amount of water. Once I got over that hurdle I did the first dvd. Take my advice and skip this one, this is the one that has the awkward moves. The second dvd is much better but it is not a very "intense" workout. I use it when I'm too lazy to do something hard and want a fun little workout. I still have to re-inflate the bag ever so often because it'll just fall down when I punch it(I guess air leaks out.) So give it a try if you want to mix up your routine and like the novelty of hitting a bag at home.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this set...
I stopped teaching contact bag classes last year in order to be at home more with my family so when I saw that Billy had come out with a contact series I was thrilled. I was skeptical about the bag because it was "inflatable" but I thought I'd give it a try. Well, it ended up leaking water all over my brand new carpet after the very first workout! And it was A LOT of water! The workout isn't very intense because the bag is just not sturdy enough to handle it and some of the moves he does have you bending and twisting the bag all over the place. (which is what contributed to the slow leak mine developed, I'm sure) These workouts might be more intense if performed on a "real bag" but this plastic blow-up one just doesn't cut it. I found myself so distracted over worrying about the bag that I didn't enjoy the workout. Don't waste your money on this! You'll only end up with sopping wet carpet like I did! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Flexible & Effective Workout!
I really enjoy Leslie Sansone's 2 Mile Walk video so decided to try her Walk off Weight video. I love it! The workout is divided into 3 sections plus a cool down at the end. The set is a living room with comfy couch and coffee table. Not lavish but I think the intent is to show you can do this in a small amount of space in your home. Behind Leslie is a window that is fun to watch as one minute it is storming and the next its a calm sunny day! Leslie is the only exerciser in the first section. It is a nice slow 20 minute 1 mile walk perfect for a day when you are tired but want to get moving. The next 2 sections are each twenty minute 1 and 1/2 mile walks. Leslie leads several other exercisers with enthusiasm and the steps are simple to follow yet vary enough to keep the viewers attention. You can do 1 segment, 2 or all 3 depending on your mood and needs. I pop it in after dinner or lunch to get in a quick walk. The music is upbeat but not intrusive. If you are looking for a very low impact workout that offers flexiblity and you enjoy simple stepping movements I think you will enjoy this video!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Exercise Video
I like several of Leslie Sansone's walking workout videos. From best to worst, here's how I rank the 5 I own:

2-MILE WALK -- 5 STARS. Her best video. Good pace, lots of variety. Not too hard for a beginner. It has a mileage gauge, which helps keep me going. (1996)

MIRACLE MILE -- 4½ STARS. A 1-mile walking workout in 15 minutes, plus a cool down and stretches. Great for those days when I haven't much time but I want to get some quick exercise in. Also good on days of cramps, if tired, etc. (1996)

WEIGHT LOSS WALK -- 3½ STARS. Has 3 20-minute segments of 1 mile, 1.5 miles, and 1.5 miles. Excellent for variety. Handy for those days when I want a different distance. Segments can be done alone or combined for a wide variety of distances -- up to 4 mies. A mix of familiar movements and different exercises, some of them a little goofy, some of them fun. I don't like the silent gaps between songs, but I recommend this exercise video. (1993)

Not recommended:
PLUS 40 WORKOUT -- 2 STARS. A 2-mile workout, not nearly as good as "2-MileWalk". Seems somewhat amateurish. Has silent gaps between songs. (1989)

WALK & FIRM -- 2 STARS. Leslie with hand weights doing safe and simple exercises. Unfortunately, I really can't get into it, and I've never finished the video. (1998)

Leslie's videos are hard enough but not too hard for people just getting back into exercise. When I use them daily (especially mornings) I find I'm much less hungry all day. I've lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks. I try to exercise daily but usually do so 4-6 times a week. I feel better, sleep better, and have better posture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This is a great workout! I do the walk away the pounds for abs 3 miles, but when I want another mile this is a good choice. It is a lot more choreographed--meaning more dancelike than the other Sansone tapes. It is a good de stresser and I felt very worked out at the completion of the tape.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy a different one!
I loved the 1 mile, I loved the 2 mile, I loved the 3 mile... I hated this. Well, I need to qualify that: I hated the 6-7 minutes I had this playing, until I had had enoughand took it out of the DVD player. First, she is alone, at least in the beginning (do more people join her in her living room set later?), which is weird. Then, as mentioned below, she directs you according to the leg she is using, which will throw you off completely--you have to either follow what she says or ignore that and mirror her. She is sort of hopping (literally) around, even in the first 6-7 minutes, which I didn't like--it's *walk* aerobics.

I love Leslie's other stuff and suggest that you just find a different one of hers and avoid this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout & (a good) Ouch Ouch Ouch for floorwork!
This video starts out slow, but then takes you further than other Leslie Sansone videos. The only ones that really give me a good workout are 2 Mile Walk and 1,2,3 Mile Super Fat Burner and the later starts out slow, too. That is great if I don't have the energy at first, because you will get some energy that carriers on long after the workout. I do the jogging, but there are times I don't and do the walking alternative. The music is upbeat and everyone looks great, which really helps inspire me. At the end of the workout there are outer thigh and glute floorwork. I was surprised on how effective it was for a Leslie Sansone video, and I have done some Firm tapes to know what a challenge is. There is also abdominal work at the end, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Longer and faster-paced
I really enjoy doing Leslie's tapes. I was a little disappointed in this one, though. It's a bit longer (45 min.) and faster-paced (has a jogging aerobics section with a walk aerobics alternative). Usually the people in her videos are club members...this one has the walk aerobics instructors (who all look great). For a longer video, I thought it used a lot of the same steps too repetitively. Even her shorter videos really vary the steps so you don't get bored.

I will use this video because it is easy and you do exercise for a longer period at moderate intensity, which Leslie says we need to do for fat burning. However, I find myself substituting other of her walk aerobics moves when I'm tired of doing knee lifts and side steps.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this one.
I have 3 other videos by Leslie that I really like, but this one just doesn't measure up. First of all, it is very amateurish compared to later tapes. There are gaps in the music that are distracting. Also in her "Walk Away" and "Express" videos, there is a friendly back and forth between her and the people exercising with her. In this one, Leslie just talks and talks alone, which is very dull. Another thing: they jog in this one, not just walk, but for some reason, I got more of a workout with her Walk-Away-the-Pounds 3-mile tape, than with this supposedly 4-mile tape. Overall, I wish I'd left this one in the store.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring - No Time - Distance Meter
I am just trying to get back in shape and using videos to do it. This is my second Leslie Sansone video, third low impact aerobic video. I don't really like it. I have her 2 mile walk and love it. It made me want to get more of her videos but I think I will stick with her stuff from 1996 on.

I feel that the 2 mile walk gave me a better, more varied, low impact work in 25 minutes than this did in approx. 40 min. The 2 mile walk does a few more different types of moves and I also feel that it changes them up more to make it more interesting. The timer on the two mile also keeps me going while this video I was just waiting for it to end. I have only used twice and can't get into it. I don't look forward to it if I have decided to put it on.

The set is very cheesy. There are gaps in the music. It does have some jogging segments but during it I feel the low impact option feels like it just drags on. I have not tried the toning section at the end yet.

I am still willing to give other Leslie Sansone's videos a chance because I truly love the 2 mile walk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Beginners
I bought this video because I had heard so much about them and I was looking for something different. I found this workout to be extremely easy and I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting to exercise or someone who is very overweight. None of the movements are complicated and for the most part it is very easy to follow. However, if Denise Austin is too perky for you, Leslie will really get on your nerves. She does alot of giggling and as mentioned in another review there are alot of inside jokes. I make the workout more intense by adding some hopping to the moves and by jogging when she is marching. I think the toning segment at the end is very good though. ... Read more

If you are tired of the canned enthusiasm, confusing routines, and sometimes dangerous directives of the latest wave of fat-blasting, kung-fu-fighting, contortionist fitness trends, introduce yourself to Jennifer Kries, the most refreshing instructor to hit home televisions in the past decade. Kries has developed an impressive array of videos and DVDs devoted to what she calls "three-dimensional toning," focusing on "improving the body's efficiency and functionality rather than just changing its appearance."

Perfect Mix is split into three 20-minute segments, each emphasizing a different fitness goal but sharing the same movements and methods. The first segment, "Core Contouring," uses traditional yoga and Pilates moves to focus on improving total body strength. The next section, "Metabolic Booster," is a cardio boost, using light weight training to burn calories while working different muscles groups throughout the entire body. Finally the yoga-based "Rejuvenation" segment brings down the heart rate and promotes flexibility and mindfulness.

Kries is a patient and surprisingly empathetic instructor--she is hyperaware of her own freakish flexibility, and constantly reminds viewers to "listen to your body and never move to the point of pain." Because she is so focused on breathing and precision of movement, the best thing about the DVD is the ability to use slow-motion controls to really improve your form (this is a no-frills DVD, with a music-only option, which is peculiar; the point is not to stare at a TV screen, and the teacher's vocal guidance is usually an essential part of that process). Kries moves through the routines rather quickly, only doing a few repetitions of each exercise, and while this prevents boredom it also makes it easy to skimp on the moves and not give the full attention needed to really feel the workout. When done correctly this is the perfect class to follow a long hard day at work--it is both energizing and invigorating without being physically and mentally exhausting. --Daphne Durham ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Why hasn't anyone mentioned the terrible video quality?
Yes, this workout is pretty good. The yoga and pilates segments are interesting and different, and they really feel effective. But why hasn't anyone mentioned the terrible video and sound quality?? This DVD looks like it was filmed with a home camera. The video is grainy, sometimes blurry, and very hard to look at. It gave me a headache! The sound is also bad. At times it sounds like she is talking into a cup. Also, the Pilates segment has no music until halfway through.

But it's not just that. She spends a lot of time sitting and talking about the moves you are going to do. This is great - the first couple times you do it. After that, you are ready to just get to the workout and not have to sit and listen again. It's not really convenient to FF, you always go too far and have to back up.

So, although this isn't the worst workout I've ever done (it's actually a pretty decent sequence) technical problems and slow pace hamper this DVD down. If someone already has it, go ahead and do it a time or two. You'll like it. Just don't waste your money on it, because you won't do it enough to get the value out of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, no-nonsense workout!
You don't have to be a dancer to do this routine! This workout is challenging yet not overly strenuous. I really like Jennifer Kries' friendly, professional style. Her cuing is easy to follow and her form is impeccable. The music in the Metabolic Booster section is very motivating! It can definitely get you into an aerobic state even though it's low impact enough to be done barefoot. The good news is, the 'no dialogue' music-only option is nice if you have the routine memorized; the bad news is, this DVD is not in stereo. However, it's an excellent overall workout that can improve your flexibility, strengthen your abs (and other muscles!), and the yoga section is both energizing and relaxing without getting too fussy. If you're new to Pilates, this DVD is a good choice!

5-0 out of 5 stars a "perfect" workout!
I am so glad I ordered this DVD! I think Jennifer Kries gives great instruction, and unlike some new pilates videos out there being marketed by any fitness guru, Jennifer Kries makes certain that you understand proper breathing and "navel to spine". She also gives little reminders about form, that I found helpful.

The core segment is classic pilates exercises with some yoga poses thrown in. Jennifer gives great instruction, and actually tells you when you *should* be feeling the work in the abdominals (and she was right!), she takes time to stretch between more difficult exercises, and shows ways to modify harder exercises.

The booster segment is tricky the first time- and yet I still managed to do it. Although the movements are fast- they are graceful, and the cueing is excellant. This segment is alot like Jody Hoegstedt's "balletone" if you have it- only with weights. I definitely got my heart rate up, and felt like I had a good inner thigh workout.

The last segment is titled "rejuvenation" and it is a relaxing yoga series. I sometimes skip the booster if I have already done cardio that day, but I *never* skip the final session. It is lovely, and I enjoy seeing how flexible Jennifer is, it gives me something to aspire to.

Some have said this is advanced... This was my second pilates tape (I also have Denise Austins "Pilates for Every Body- different than this, but loved it, too) and because I am fairly flexible from yoga practises, I did not feel like this was too difficult. I felt challanged, and got a great workout, but did not feel overworked or strained. I felt lifted and relaxed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Stop Talking Already
This is a terrible video. I enjoy exercise videos but this is one of the worst. The instructor doesn't stop talking. It's nice to be guided through postures but she doesn't shut up. She also takes atleast five minutes of each segment and tells you how to breathe. It felt like a Lamaze class. The first segment is Core Conditioning. It concentrates on your abs and lower spine. It's not half bad and she does explain things nicely, which is good if you've never done Pilates.
The second segment, Metabolic Booster, is ridiculous. She's jumping and dancing all over the place. You'd have to watch it quite a few times to get the moves down. The last segment, Rejuvination, is based on yoga. Again, she babbles on for about five minutes then finally takes you through a few common postures. Thankfully I only rented this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Goddess Challenge
Jennifer Kries is definitely the Pilates goddess of the workout video/DVD world. Not only does she create challenging Pilates workouts, she gives perfect instruction and teaches you to respect your body in a new way. This is her New Method style workout. It is a combination of Pilates, Weight Training, Dance and Yoga.

Workout 1 - Core Conditioning - Classic Pilates routine and Yoga moves. You will recognize all the basic Pilates moves with the roll-ups and modified roll-ups. Jennifer gives a lot of advice on modifying, but I just have to say that I have my own secret ways for getting from the flat-on-back position to the bending over one's legs position. I'm not sure she would approve. While Jennifer shows each position, she gives even more "breathing" instructions. I love "rolling like a ball" and the challenge of making each exercise so precise.

Workout 2 - Metabolic Booster - Light weight training segment to increase cardiovascular strength. I love this almost "dance-style" workout. Jennifer is working out with four workout partners/instructors. The music is motivational, the colors are inspirational and the setting is so classic. You flow through the stretches like a dancer and then learn to get fancy with the weights. You are moving fairly fast so it is advisable to really learn the moves before increasing your speed. I found that once I was distracted by anything, I had to refocus, rewind and begin again. This is the most challenging weight workout I've ever done. Not only does this push you to the limit of your coordination, you are also moving in a very creative way. I love this section because it will be one I will be perfecting for months. Your arms will feel toned and the addition of the weights also helps you burn extra calories during the cardiovascular moments.

Workout 3 - AM/PM Rejuvenation - Yoga-based workout to release tension and promotes flexibility. You will recognize all the basic yoga moves and there are a few variations with an added dose of creative appeal.

Breath of Fire is an exercise I've recently seen in many yoga workouts. Jennifer almost seems to relax into this workout, although she is still just as precise. Her personality comes across especially well in the newer videos. She not only talks the viewer through the exercises, she is very comfortable with the entire process.

I like the way you can actually hear Jennifer breathing in various exercises, it reminds you to breathe! She teaches some breathing techniques I've been seeing in a number of yoga workouts. It only took me about three videos to get that breathing technique under control. Ironically, the secret is to let go of control.

This workout is the most challenging Jennifer Kries workout I've ever completed. If you do all three workouts one after the other, there is no need to do any cardiovascular work before starting this routine. Normally, I'd suggest walking for about 30-40 minutes, but with this workout, you don't need any additional exercise. You will strengthen and tone your entire body in 60 minutes. "Perfect Mix" has all the elements of a full-body workout and stretch. I noticed immediate results in how toned my body felt and also in my posture. Jennifer has the perfect body and now we know why. It takes intense determination and when you do this workout over a short period of time, you will almost become addicted to the demanding aspects.

Intermediate to Advanced.

The workout you need to move into an entirely new realm of fitness. If you have working out for a few years and want to test your strength, "Perfect Mix" will invigorate and energize you. I highly recommend this workout.

P.S. If you are noticing a problem with the sound, try buying a pair of RCA headphones. I think the problem might be with an "older" TV which can't handle the sound on this video. I have noticed that a few movies and workout DVDs that are newer are not
working (sound quality is iffy and muffly) on my older TV. I first noticed this with a STING DVD and now with Workouts DVDs. It might be time to buy a new TV. If your TV was not originally set up for DVD, then you might want to consider that aspect when determining sound quality on a variety of new items appearing on the market. If you have the choice between DVD and VHS, I'd go with the DVD. This video sounds amazing on the RCA cordless headphones, so I figured out that it was my TV, not the quality of the video. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute WORST Leslie DVD
The absolute WORST Leslie Sansone DVD.Done live in her studio there are many things I didn't like. I got this thinking it would have thoughtful geriatric material - it doesn't.It was the same stuff she does on her other DVDs except less coordinated, badly scripted, and poorly taped. I am a big fan of Leslie and I have over a dozen of her DVDs.ANY of Leslie's DVDs would be a better choice than this one.It was quite a disappointment. ... Read more

Sculpt and stretch your lower body with this set of three 30-minute, beginning-level workouts for the legs, thighs, hips, buttocks, lower back, and abs. Lower Body Yoga with Suzanne Deason presents a gentle series of yoga poses. A separate segment shows less flexible exercises how to modify the poses using a block and strap. Pilates Lower Body Workout with Jillian Hessel targets the abs, thighs, lower back, and buttocks with a slow-paced series appropriate for novices. BalanceBall Lower Body Workout again features Suzanne Deason in a gentle workout focusing on the core muscles of the abs and back using a stability ball, with some lower-body exercises that use the ball for balance but rarely for resistance. The workouts take place in peaceful, outdoor settings. Also included are interviews with the instructors. Recommended for beginning exercisers looking for a variety of approaches to their lower body, abdominal, and lower-back muscles. --Joan Price ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars what's going on?
the instruction in this tape is lackluster. I've been doing yoga for a few years, and am familiar with all the yoga lingo, but found this DVD hard to follow (you do a lot of work on your back, and can't see the TV, so you rely on their spoken directions, which aren't that great. All, in all--my lower body feels slightly worked out, but mostly my neck aches from straining to see the TV.

1-0 out of 5 stars To many people
The introduction they could have done with out and Dr. Lam has people to help show the movements. Way to much distraction when there are that many people in a video. I didn't learn a thing from it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good excecise but not easy to follow
This is my first Tai Chi video so I have nothing to compare with. Overall, I liked the excercies and I liked how he broke every move into multiple segments to make sure the viewers get it. But his explaination of each move is not very clear and sometimes lacks details. For example, he should point out when a movement requires shifting weight or bending knees. These details are ommitted from time to time. He also needs to incorporate more breathing instructions into the movements. I was able to follow it, but my mom (whom I bought the DVD for) was confused by the instructions. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Leslie's Best Workouts....
Leslie is the queen of walking workouts. Her tapes leave you with no excuse not to exercise. They are simple, you can do them at home rain or shine and they are quick.
I enjoy many of Leslie's tapes but found the Walk Away The Pounds for Abs tape to be less than her best.
The walks are Leslie's usual walks with easy movements, sidesteps, marches etc. This particular set includes a l mile, 2 mile or 3 mile walk on one DVD. A resistance belt, recipe cards and a small booklet with a suggested walking workout schedule. The problem is with the WATP's belt.
The tapes are marketed as walks that work your abs. You put a velcro belt around your waist and pull on the resistance bands attached to the belt. One band per arm. This does not work your abs at all. It works your arms. Sadly it also strains the muscles in your back. Not a good thing.
The ab belts are not well made and many folks have been sad to discover theirs have broken with just a few uses. To rectify this the manufacturer of the belt now makes them so the bands have a very light resistance. This way there is not a lot of tension on the bands, so they are less likely to break. Naturally, this also means your arms are not going to get a workout either.
You could do the workouts without the bands and just use light weights but why would you when Leslie offers so many other workouts to choose from.
Unless you want a sore back skip these tapes and select something else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great all around workout!
I first discovered Leslie Sansone's workout videos at the local library. I tried them all and liked the walk away the pounds for abs the best. She does not incorporate any intensely difficult steps and she is a gentle but uplifting instructor. She has a fit but not perfect body and the music is "canned" but with good beats. Her laughter is infectious and her smile is warm. All these elements help me to put my DVD in and ENJOY the workout. My husband bought me the 3 DVD set with belt as a Valentine present - and I really like them. The ONLY regret I have is that the DVDs are not set up by chapters - I can't jump ahead to the cool down by clicking to it, I have to "fast forward" just like a video. That's unfortunate. Other than that, I like having all three "videos" on DVD so I can choose whatever I feel like doing. The belt is an easy way to add variety to the workout and I also use 1.5 lb hand weights when I'm feeling super strong. I have gone from 210 lbs to 177 eating healthy (NOT the Atkin's diet), smaller portions and exercising. Leslie Sansone's DVDs are a great investment for a beginner or a moderate exerciser. Good luck to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of an excellent set of workouts
I have used several of Leslie Sansone's walking programs, with weighted balls, stretchie, and the 4 mile power walk. They are all wonderfully invigorating, but I love the abs program the best. I never feel exhausted after completing the workout, and my whole body feels the blood flowing and the energy level rising. For years, I walked for 45 minutes a day outside, and on a treadmill in the long New England winter, listening to books on tape to keep the boredom away. But these workouts utilize the upper body as well as the lower, and really do get the endorphins flowing. Of course, being able to keep it up during the winter, and to vary the level among the the 1,2,3, and 4 mile walks is very helpful in terms of sustaining motivation. I am 57 years old, mother of three grown kids, and a bit overweight. This workout is helping with weight loss, but more importantly, my whole mind set has been improved by the exercise regimen, and I actually look forward to my workout session each day. I can't praise Leslie highly enough for her style-minimal chit chat, pleasant and sincere in her manner. Particularly for those who have had a hard time finding a program that sustains the will on a long term basis, this is the best!!

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOXED SET IS THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL WATP!
I PURCHASED THIS BOXED SET THINKING THAT THIS IS THE NEW "WALK AWAY THE POUNDS FOR ABS" SET -IT SAYS SO IN THE TITLE ANYWAY. I GOT THIS BOX WHICH CONTAINS ONLY 1 DVD AND 1 AB BELT. BUYER BEWARE! THE 1 DVD CONTAINS ALL OF THE WORKOUTS BUT THEY ARE ACTUALLY THE ORIGINAL WALK AWAY THE POUNDS SET! SO IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE ORIGINAL WATP THEN DO NOT BUY THIS BOXED SET! IF YOU WANT TO BUY "WATP FOR ABS DVDS" - JUST BUY THE 2 SEPARATE DVDS (WHICH YOU WILL ALSO FIND HERE IN AMAZON) BECAUSE THOSE 2 SEPARATE DVDS ARE THE NEW WATP-ABS. THE BOX TITLE IS WRONG! IT SHOULD BE NAMED "WALK AWAY THE POUNDS-ORIGINAL EDITION" BECAUSE OF THIS BLUNDER, I GIVE IT 1 STAR!

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works!!!
This DVD really works--the only bad thing is that the belt stretches out in a few months, but you can get a replacement for about $20 from Leslie's website. Also, in the 2 mile version, when Leslie does one excercise 24 times on one side, & 19 on the other, so I just count them as I do them & do 24 for each side. In 2 months I have lost a few inches ... from doing this video--it's well worth the price. ... Read more

This 1990 light-intensity workout, designed for beginning exercisers over 40, is extremely simple: many repetitions of marching in place, walking forward and back, step-touches, and low kicks. Leslie Sansone, chipper and cute, leads a 20-minute low-impact routine, with a five-minute warm-up and a five-minute cool-down. The workout is quite repetitious: you might march for more than 100 beats, broken up only by a few arm variations. Then you might kick 32 times. Considering all the workout videos Sansone has made, it's annoying that she cues her own left and right rather than yours (you're facing her, therefore her right is your left) and she incessantly chants the wrong "right, left, right, left." This video is for beginning exercisers who wish to keep the intensity low and don't get bored repeating the same four moves for half an hour. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fuels motivation
I checked this video out at the library along with the regular two-mile walk.I absolutely love it.Yes, it's from the early 90s and there's a little too much hairspray and thick black eyeliner, but Leslie's enthusiasm and encouragement make you tend to forget about it.Now I look forward to getting up in the morning and exercising before I even start my work day. Before, it was the last thing I'd think about doing, and then it wouldn't get done at all and I'd be disappointed that I let another day go by without taking better care of myself.I found the regular two-mile walk too difficult; I thought I was going to keel over dead by the 3/4 mile mark because there were so many lunges, but the over-40 tape is just right for those of us who've kept saying "I'll start working out tomorrow."If it's a little too easy, just add some of the arm movements or knee lifts and kicks when she's instructing just marching in place (like a couple of the people in the tape do), or add some wrist or ankle weights. As Leslie says so often (to paraphrase), it's not about fancy moves, it's about keeping moving, keeping your heart rate up, changing your body for the good.I've just ordered this tape and I'll definitely buy a few more just for variety.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Video has helped me loads!
I am 46 and bought this video years ago, but only since Jan. have used it everyday since..Yes, as some other reviewers say, Leslie does get off on the wrong foot, but she is so totally REAL, not like some of these others that are so false..She is ditzey and fun..It DOES get repetitious, but then I let my mind roam as I do whats best for me..combining this tape and Weight Watchers diet, I have now lost 65 pounds..I will continue to march along with Leslie, she's the greatest!

5-0 out of 5 stars very motivating for the beginner
I love this video as it's the perfect introduction to exercise.I am really out of shape, and the more strenuous of her videos was really discouraging to me as a beginner. This is a good workout, and I don't dread doing it as I have other videos. In fact, I like Leslie's enthusiasm for walking and exercise; it helps keep me motivated.

The only downside is that the camera focuses a lot on some of the walkers who "march to their own drummer"; that is, they aren't in step with Leslie at all.I try to ignore the screen when this happens, because it really throws off following the music.(the woman on Leslie's left with the black hair, white T-shirt with yellow print is the worst offender. She's very enthusiastic, but is nowhere near to keeping the beat of the music.)Still, this is a great exercise video, and I recommend it highly for those needing help getting started.

5-0 out of 5 stars Join in the Fun and Get the Results you are looking for!!!
I began using this video about 4 months ago and really am greatful I did.I could hardly walk at the time and couldn't side step at all without my knee giving out.Now I can and have bought other video's of Leslie's and am really seeing some positive results.I would highly recommend this one to anyone who says they don't like to exercise or don't think they can..You'll be surprised at yourself..Leslie makes it fun and possible for you to strengthen muscles and burn fat and do it in the privacy of your own home.YOU CAN DO IT! I have bought 3 of this particular video and passed them on to others that love it too and are seeing results.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Done
This video if completely inferior to 2-Mile Walk -- also by Leslie Sansone. There are many awkward transitions and clumsy moments. Very disappointing. I never use it. I use the 2-Mile Walk Video a lot -- it's very good. Buy that one instead! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Workouts. Poor Quality DVD.
The Power Walking System by Leslie Sansone consists of Power Walk 3 miles, Power Firm and Ask Leslie. The Power Walk is typical Leslie fair. Sidesteps, marches, small kicks etc. She adds light handweights during the walk to increase intensity. You are told when each mile is completed so you can end your workout at 1, 2 or 3 miles. It's a nice workout and the handweights make it even more effective.

The Power Firm is a series of leg exercises. Leslie herself uses 2.5 pound weights. Since Leslie is pear shaped and already has a larger lower body than upper body I wonder why she elects to use the weights. To decrease body size in your lower extremities you are better off using less weight and more repetition. If you want to bulk up these muscles add weights.
Leslie leads you through standing leg exercises, inner thigh and outer thigh work - a short simple routine.

Ask Leslie consists of short questions and answers with Leslie.
Overall I really like the walk but agree with other reviewers, that the DVD skips in about 10 places and this is very annoying.
As you are walking suddenly the DVD will pause and then resume. It does as one reviewer notes breakup the rhythm of the workout.

Overall if you can put up with the skipping, the Power Walk walking workout is a good one and the Power Firm workout a nice bonus.

1-0 out of 5 stars Video quailty is terrible
You may as well pick up the cheaper VHS, because that's as good as this looks. They just made the chapters fall every five minutes rather than at logical intervals. The DVD producer should be ashamed.

1-0 out of 5 stars LOTS OF GLITCHES!
THIS DVD (BY UNICORN STUDIO/LEISURE ENTERTAINMENT) HAS A LOT OF GLITCHES WITHIN THE ENTIRE WORKOUT AND IT IS RATHER ANNOYING.I HOPE GOODTIMES STUDIO RELEASES THIS DVD IN THE FUTURE.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I am new to exercising and I found this one to be easy enough to actually stick to.However, it's very repetitous.
My favorite is still Denise Austin's Indoor 2 Mile Walk.I'm so out of shape right now that this is a good "easing my way back to loyal exerxcising" with Leslie.Denise's is pretty intense and for the moderate exerciser to give you a good sweat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great walk workout
I love this DVD!I've started doing it everyday and the workout is so good!Since I've pretty much memorized all the moves, I put the DVD in my laptop and do it while I watch TV in the living room.It goes by so fast and I can't believe I've actually walked three miles! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and enhancing.
This dvd and the whole series are great for working on isolations and just refining your moves in general. This particular workout and the pilates are my favorites. She works on stomach isolations and glutes.I'm an intermediate bellydancer and was able to do most of the exercises, and others were challenging, but not discouraging. The dvd comes with special features which includes a bonus mini workout, a solo performance, a performance by her entire troupe and circle dance. Her students in the video are very talented and the workout motivates you to get to their level.Oh, and strangely there is a random part where she talks about her pregnancy.
I recommend her pilates dvd in addition to this one over this one. ... Read more
