5-0 out of 5 stars Leslie's Best Exercise Video
I like several of Leslie Sansone's walking workout videos, but this is her best. From best to worst, here's how I rank the five I own:

2-MILE WALK -- her best video. Good pace, lots of variety. Not too hard for a beginner. It has a mileage gauge, which helps keep me going. (1996)

MIRACLE MILE -- a 1-mile walking workout in 15 minutes, plus a cool down and stretches. Great for those days when I haven't much time but I want to get some quick exercise in. Also good on days of cramps, if tired, etc. (1996)

WEIGHT LOSS WALK -- has 3 20-minute segments of 1 mile, 1.5 miles, and 1.5 miles. Excellent for variety. Handy for those days when I want a different distance. Segments can be done alone or combined for a wide variety of distances -- up to 4 miles. A mix of familiar and different movements. Some of the exercises are a little goofy but it's good variety. Don't like the silent gaps between songs. (1993)

Not recommended:
PLUS 40 WORKOUT -- A 2-mile workout, not nearly as good as "2-MileWalk". Has silent gaps between songs. (1989)

WALK & FIRM -- Leslie with hand weights doing safe and simple exercises. Unfortunately, I really can't get into it, and I've never finished the video. (1998)

Leslie's videos are hard enough but not too hard for people just getting back into exercise. When I use them daily (especially mornings) I find I'm much less hungry all day. I've lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks. I try to exercise daily but usually do so 4-6 times a week. I feel better, sleep better, and have better posture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good way to exercise
I bought this video, the "40 plus Walk Aerobics Video" and "Firm Up Fast" as a starter course. I found the "2 Mile Walk" and "Firm Up Fast" to be a good pair, for the following reasons. Leslie Sansone is a very engaging person with just the right amount of encouragement to keep me going. In the 2-mile walk, she does a better job of anticipating changes in steps and motion than in 40+, so it's easy to follow. The people in the studio with her are well synchronized, in contrast to the 40+ workout, where the disorganized bouncing and odd facial expressions (details! details!) are enough to throw me off stride. Leslie starts her count on the left foot in the two-mile walk and right foot in 40+, incidentally. As an over-weight, over-60 beginner, I can easily work up a sweat in the lunges, which occur in the first 3/4 mile and are too fast-paced for comfort, but it never gets any harder than that. I haven't noticed any weight loss after the first four weeks, but I haven't been paying much attention to dieting, either. I have noticed my pants fitting looser, however. The testimonials from happy walkers at the start of the video are annoying after the first time, but one can fast forward past them. Firm Up Fast gives easy exercises that still raise a sweat. Bottom line: I'm still motivated to use these two to exercise, and that's the main purpose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick, Easy, and Painless
This is one of the BEST exercise videos I've used. It's easy on the joints but works out the whole body with a friendly group. Leslie is motivating but not loud; just offers easy encouragement. The 30 minutes goes by quickly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and Effective
This is my favorite excercise video. I've been using the VHS tape version for years, and now I have it on DVD! Naturally, the DVD version is much more convenient to use as I can go directly to the portion I need without fast forwarding or rewinding the tape when I'm done.

For a klutz like me, Leslie Sansone has been a God send. Even when I've been at my heaviest, this video was possible to do. And yet even though it is easy with no complicated dance steps, it certainly works! No matter what my level of fitness is, this video gets my heart pumping!

Leslie is upbeat, positive, and encouraging. When she smiles directly at the camera and says "Good!" I feel she is talking to me! The exercisers who join her on the video are regular people, not all of whom are at the peak of perfection, which makes me feel right at home. Finally, the exercises take very little room, so I can do the video in a spare bedroom or in the living room.

I've never gotten tired of this video, but just to expand my exercise horizons, I've also ordered several more Leslie Sansone DVDs.

4-0 out of 5 stars A place to learn about meditation and yourself.
In this tape Rodney Yee Takes you through an easy to follow set of poses That Quiets the mind and body. This video will help you to acheive the inner stillness we all look for.Rodney Yee is by far my favorite of the Living Arts Instructors. He has great ability, clear instruction, a soothing voice, and kind eyes. All his videos seem to move right along so it will keep your interest. The only problem with this tape is that it should have ended with a few min. of music so you can stay in the stillness if you like. Instead it Goes right into a commercial for the Yoga Journal Series. Otherwise this tape gives you the foundation to begin a meditation practice. However You will want a book to go beyond the tape.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good beginning
Rodney Yee is one of the best professional Yoga teachers out there today doing videos. He knows his stuff. Witht this meditation video you never feel lost and you understand the basic principles. This is an excellent tape for the beginner that can't get to a class.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect start to building a meditation yoga practice
In this video, master yoga instructor Rodney Yee guides the viewer through gentle yoga poses designed to allow you to focus your attention inward. The practice is divided into 5 segments:

1) Mountain. Rodney describes this as a "quiet flow series," and it contains about 12 minutes of simple stretches to warm up the body.
2) Garden. This 13-minute section focuses mainly on hip opening postures such as twists and forward bends performed while sitting on a chair.
3) Tree. In this section, Rodney spends 10 minutes reviewing 4 basic seating postures used for meditation: cobbler, hero, sage, and lotus. Each pose is practiced with and without a block for variation.
4) Wind. The purpose of this section is to concentrate on breath while in reclining postures; 10 minutes.
5) Sky. In this final 8-minute section, Rodney leads you through a seated meditation. His soothing voiceover instruction reminds you to turn your attention inward and to focus on your breathing.

Although I tend to concentrate on postures rather than meditation in my own yoga practice, I found this video to be enjoyable and restorative. I particularly liked the third section, as Rodney's breathing instruction helped me to really feel a tingling sense of deeper relaxation in my body. Rodney is an excellent instructor; his beautiful form while practicing is a perfect compliment to the gorgeous background scenery. This video would work well for anyone looking to add the benefits of meditation to their yoga practice without having to simply sit quietly in a lotus position.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
I was reluctant to try something that involved meditation, because I'm more interested in flexibility and posture than meditation. But this has been an excellent introduction to getting comfortable with yoga, and I am now dedicated to branching out into more challenging tapes. Because the emphasis is on breathing properly and relaxing deeply, my body actually feels better in a totally new way: like I worked out at the gym, but without strain and with only the flush of circulation and relaxation. Yee is an excellent teacher and speaker: after several viewings, his voice is still calming and the settings are still beautiful (Yosemite Park) -- not that I see them, because my eyes are closed most of the time. Only one session requires a block to sit on, but I am now dedicated to practicing yoga regularly enough that I made the investment in one. For someone looking to "get started" with yoga at home without strain, this is the perfect tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
This tape is awesome. He goes at a good speed and it's not too difficult. Great for beginners. I've never done anything like this. It leaves you feeling good. I have a really hard time winding down and this is a huge help! Check it out. You'll be happy you did. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Best for Beginners
The problem with reviews for exercise videos is that they are predicated on the health & fitness level of the writer. That being said, I'm a fit 40 year old male runner with little prior pilates training. To me, Ulitmate Pilates seems best suited for beginners but I think advanced beginners & intermediates would quickly tire from Kathy's constant instruction. I guess I like my pilates to be a little more meditative SO I CAN concentrate on my form & breathing. The other issue I have with Kathy's sessions is that they don't flow very well from one move to the next. In addition, there are some redundant moves between the 2 dvds. Using proper form, I didn't feel either workout was that difficult or taxing. I got a much better workout from Ana Caban's Pilates Intermediate Mat Workout. Pilates Workout for Dummies is a much better intro IMHO.

5-0 out of 5 stars ultimate pilates
Excellent pilates workout! Kathy is a great teacher and you will guarantee get a good workout!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout
I was a little leary of buying Kathy Smith's pilates due to the fact that most of her videos contain a lot of aerobics, jumping and bouncing. I was pleasantly surprised though with her knowledge of pilates. I feel that the combination of these two DVDs will help you to re-shape your body. If done properly, you will absolutely feel your muscles working.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Workouts For Abs and Lower Body
This DVD set is a combination of the Pilates for Abs and Pilates for Lower Body workouts. The two workouts are packaged together in this set.

Kathy Smith's Pilates for Abs workout is a challenging workout for the abdominals. This DVD is great for both beginning and more advanced work outs.
The Pilates philosophy is all about perfect repetitions every time, so you're not going to be doing sit-ups for the entire workout. The movements are isometric and difficult if you maintain correct postures. This workout focuses on the shoulders, ribs, abs, and engaging your hamstrings.

Kathy has Leah working out with her, and Leah demonstrates more advanced versions of the movements when you are ready to move up to that level. This feature will keep you using this DVD over time.

While the workout only runs 20 minutes, I find it a great complement to an existing routine of cardio and light weights. I combine this workout with a 30-minute cardio segment for a well-rounded day.

The Pilates for Lower Body workout runs a little longer. It has a 6-minute warmup and a 25 minute workout. It is just as challenging as the Pilates for Abs workout.

This is a great combination of workouts! A must-have for Pilates enthusiasts! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title...
I mistakenly assumed with a title of "DISCOVER Tai Chi" that Mr. Cole was going to teach me the traditional moves of Tai Chi. This DVD appears to be an individual's idea of an aerobics program using Tai Chi moves. I've only been stationed in one place that offered lessons and fell in love with Tai Chi, but only had time to attend for the first few moves. I've read a couple books describing the art, but thought I'd benefit from being shown the moves. This is definitely NOT the aide I was looking for.

This guy is probably a great modern dancer and aerobics instructor, but he races through his moves with little instruction or explanation of what one should be experiencing; proper breathing, stance, muscle concentration etc.

Don't recommend it unless you're bored with your current workout and know Tai Chi well.

5-0 out of 5 stars First one thing and then the other
I found this DVD at the public library and liked it so much that I ordered it for myself. This is a very good workout and it took me a good month before I could do the entire sequence in one session. And Tai Chi, if done in the right mind set, lends a certain clarity to your entire day. I am still amazed that Tai Chi is such a good workout. You can really feel the heat from following Cole's regimen.

An important note though; please take a Tai Chi class, even just one, with an instructor before jumping into the DVD. There are certain things about posture and stance that no DVD can instruct you in.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it..
This is a great dvd for the beginner. After doing it a few times, you pick up the moves easily, so it doesn't bore you to death with explanations of how to do the actual moves. So in this aspect, its' great.

I would like a more advanced work out like this, so hopefully the next level will be coming out soon. But there is really nothing else out on the market.

There is the workout to music, once you learn the routine, which I use all the time now.

Great product just wish the next level was available. Scott are you listening?!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Find. Destress and break a sweat!
I love this video. I discovered it at the library and loved it so much that it was overdue for 11 days. The moves are very easy to learn. Had it down for the most part the first time I followed the tape. I felt invigorated, refreshed, and could not believe the workout I got. There are a lot of hand movements, but you are primarily working the thighs. Great for beginners or inconsistent execersisers. The instructor is also great.

2-0 out of 5 stars A beginner who thinks this DVD is not for beginners...
I bought this DVD with hope that I would lose a few pounds and learn a little Tai Chi. I did neither.

In terms of actually learning Tai Chai, this DVD falls short. I found that Mr. Cole did not give explicit instruction. It seemed that I was expected to either know the Tai Chi forms before hand, or to follow his lead and "pick it up". The pace of the exercises, are fast - meaning that Mr. Cole switches from one form to the other with little advanced warning or preparation. There is a nice feature on the DVD that allows you to jump to a specific form, so I guess if you chose to redo an exercise you would be able to do so relatively easily.

I gave this DVD only two stars one for the quality of the DVD and the other for the artistic touches. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout & (a good) Ouch Ouch Ouch for floorwork!
This video starts out slow, but then takes you further than other Leslie Sansone videos. The only ones that really give me a good workout are 2 Mile Walk and 1,2,3 Mile Super Fat Burner and the later starts out slow, too. That is great if I don't have the energy at first, because you will get some energy that carriers on long after the workout. I do the jogging, but there are times I don't and do the walking alternative. The music is upbeat and everyone looks great, which really helps inspire me. At the end of the workout there are outer thigh and glute floorwork. I was surprised on how effective it was for a Leslie Sansone video, and I have done some Firm tapes to know what a challenge is. There is also abdominal work at the end, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Longer and faster-paced
I really enjoy doing Leslie's tapes. I was a little disappointed in this one, though. It's a bit longer (45 min.) and faster-paced (has a jogging aerobics section with a walk aerobics alternative). Usually the people in her videos are club members...this one has the walk aerobics instructors (who all look great). For a longer video, I thought it used a lot of the same steps too repetitively. Even her shorter videos really vary the steps so you don't get bored.

I will use this video because it is easy and you do exercise for a longer period at moderate intensity, which Leslie says we need to do for fat burning. However, I find myself substituting other of her walk aerobics moves when I'm tired of doing knee lifts and side steps.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this one.
I have 3 other videos by Leslie that I really like, but this one just doesn't measure up. First of all, it is very amateurish compared to later tapes. There are gaps in the music that are distracting. Also in her "Walk Away" and "Express" videos, there is a friendly back and forth between her and the people exercising with her. In this one, Leslie just talks and talks alone, which is very dull. Another thing: they jog in this one, not just walk, but for some reason, I got more of a workout with her Walk-Away-the-Pounds 3-mile tape, than with this supposedly 4-mile tape. Overall, I wish I'd left this one in the store.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring - No Time - Distance Meter
I am just trying to get back in shape and using videos to do it. This is my second Leslie Sansone video, third low impact aerobic video. I don't really like it. I have her 2 mile walk and love it. It made me want to get more of her videos but I think I will stick with her stuff from 1996 on.

I feel that the 2 mile walk gave me a better, more varied, low impact work in 25 minutes than this did in approx. 40 min. The 2 mile walk does a few more different types of moves and I also feel that it changes them up more to make it more interesting. The timer on the two mile also keeps me going while this video I was just waiting for it to end. I have only used twice and can't get into it. I don't look forward to it if I have decided to put it on.

The set is very cheesy. There are gaps in the music. It does have some jogging segments but during it I feel the low impact option feels like it just drags on. I have not tried the toning section at the end yet.

I am still willing to give other Leslie Sansone's videos a chance because I truly love the 2 mile walk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Beginners
I bought this video because I had heard so much about them and I was looking for something different. I found this workout to be extremely easy and I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting to exercise or someone who is very overweight. None of the movements are complicated and for the most part it is very easy to follow. However, if Denise Austin is too perky for you, Leslie will really get on your nerves. She does alot of giggling and as mentioned in another review there are alot of inside jokes. I make the workout more intense by adding some hopping to the moves and by jogging when she is marching. I think the toning segment at the end is very good though. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Billy Will Make You A Conquerer!
I bought this tape set after using the "old" Tae-Bo tapes for about a year. Since starting Tae-Bo, I've lost over 40 lbs and have a lot more energy.

The Beginner Tape explains all the moves - I highly recommend watching this first.

The Basic Tape is a great 30 minute workout, however there are a couple of minor goof ups: Billy seems to have trouble keeping the exercise counts consistent on each "side" when you're working out. In one spot, Billy starts a new movement before the complete 8-count from the previous move is completed (and his workout buddies in the background get confused). There is another point in the video where Billy tells you to work the "other side" but he promptly starts the exercise on the same side already done. And sometimes when switching to the "other leg" he doesn't do the exact same exercise after the switch. These problems are all minor, and I've come to anticipate them as I watch. Also, the Tae-Chi style cool-down session on the original Tae-bo tapes is better than the one on this tape. It's almost as if Billy runs out of time, and doesn't want to go over 30 minutes. This tape is ALL cardio. No floor work for legs, buns, or abs.

The Advanced Tape is truly for individuals with a high fitness level. Although I seem to find that the original Advanced Tae-Bo tape gets me breathing and sweating a little harder than this "Live" version. Still, this is a killer workout, and not for the timid. I use ankle and wrist weights when doing the Basic Tape, but this one is killer all on its own. The cardio portion is followed by a grueling floor portion for legs, buns, and abs - and you will be watching the clock praying for time to speed up. I keep the VCR display counter on the screen during this tape so I can keep an eye on how long the torture will last!

To be honest, I really don't use the 8-minute tape. I've watched it once, but 8 minutes of cardio, no matter how intense, is simply not enough to maintain a good fitness level. Sure - it's better than nothing, so if you're in a rush then pop this tape in. But you're better off committing to at least 30 minutes a day.

Minor problems aside, this is certainly a workout video worthy to be added to your collection. I suggest getting the original set (where Billy claims he will "make you a Conquerer!), as well as this "Live" set, so that you can keep variety in your training. I find myself using the Beginning and Advanced tapes from both sets on a regular basis.

I've enjoyed these tapes, and my wife and I have both enjoyed the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo is Brilliant!
Everyone should give Tae Bo a try. Approach it with confidence and determination. Read online Tae Bo discussion boards for support and success stories to keep you motivated. But when you commit to working out, do it for spirit rather than your physical hopes. As Billy says, let the rest fall into place.

This particular set is a great set for Tae Bo fans or Tae Bo beginners. Although the instructional workout can be boring, you really need to watch and work along with it before doing your first workout. It will hopefully help you complete your workouts safely and effectively.

The basic workout is a great workout that beginners will find challenging. Eventually you may be able to move to the advanced tape, but take your time and build your skills, confidence, and endurance first. The 8-minute workout is not really something you should use on its own. I would suggest doing the basic workout and the 8-minute workout back-to-back as you progress between basic and advanced. Just try out various ideas to see what is best for you.

And don't get discouraged if even the basic is too tough for you to complete when you begin. Take your time and focus on completing the moves you make as cleanly as possible, work on good form.

Approach Tae Bo with the a determinded and strong mind! You will feel great!

2-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo is Excellent, but skip this one
Tae Bo is an excellent way to get fit and Billy Blanks is a master motivator, but skip this one. Billy often times seems like he's making it up as he goes and loses track of his count and excercizes. Moreover, the constant yelling of his assitant with the headset gets very annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best, most varied Tae Bo workouts available
I own the Basic and 8-Minute workout videos from the original Tae Bo Live VHS set. I started with the 8-Minute tape, thinking that the shorter length would make it easier, but that is NOT the case! Instructor Billy Blanks jumps right into this workout with a very short (2 1/2 minutes) and fast-moving warmup; he moves much more quickly than his usual warmup pace here. As the title suggests, the main part of the workout is about 8 minutes long. Billy covers only a few types of punches (jabs and uppercuts) and includes only one kick sequence at the very end. However, there are a lot of standing moves to target the abdominal area, such as knee lifts and heel touches. Billy then leads you through about 2 minutes of static holds for more core work as well as balance, and the workout ends with approximately 1 1/2 minutes of Tai Chi type cooldown moves. Thus the entire workout lasts about 14 minutes.

The Basic workout is the toughest basic Tae Bo I've encountered so far, but it is also the most interesting, as Billy includes a greater variety of punches and kicks as well as more punch-kick combinations. This workout begins with a 4-minute warmup and then moves right into punches, placing an emphasis on your waist during the moves. At one point, there is a particularly tough arms segment requiring you to hold up your arms for what seems like forever--my shoulders were screaming! The legwork is also challenging, as you will perform several different types of kicks--including front kicks, side kicks, back kicks, and roundhouse kicks--in several different combinations. Although a few of the combinations were a bit hard to follow, I really enjoyed the variations that Billy included in this workout. This workout also contains some static holds (about 1 minute), and it ends with an extremely quick 1-minute stretch; the entire program clocks in at 31 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ready, set, go buy this one!
Lilias Folans "Flowing Postures" series is what I encourage beginners and the yoga curious to begin with. No matter how "in shape" we may look and feel without good posture we are out of shape. The posture supports our entire body. The first video has gentle movements to tone and build strength in the upper arms w ithout building large muscles. Strong toned long lean muscles is the message here.
.
"serenity now" features slow, rhythmical breathing with relaxing postures that will help you to unwind and quiet that inner chatter. Come on you know you think too much . This will help you get centered while in the background beautiful, soothing music is playing.

As you gain strength and balance move on to the last video a wonderful cardio workout. Lilias is my favorite instructor . I first discovered her in the seventies on PBS. I think if not mistaken. She had a show either really late at night or really early in the morning. Which can be one and the same I suppose.

5-0 out of 5 stars yoga homework
I've been attending a yoga class once a week for awhile. Before I received this set, I was stiff at the beginning of each class. I couldn't remember all the positions or the order in which they should proceed. With this set and another Lilias 2 box set, I can practice 6 days a week and attend my class on the 7th day, fully prepared and flexible. Lilias is the WOMAN. I practiced with her in the 70s on a PBS station and feel that I've reunited with an old friend. I can only hope that I've aged as gracefully as this gentle woman. I love these tapes and hope you will also.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's made a difference in my life!
I never thought I'd be able to do yoga because of an old back injury. Most yoga videos have too much twisting and strain for beginners or the skittish folks like me. But Lilias Folan's yoga series is wonderful. The four tapes give me enough variety so I never get tired of these routines, and they have made a real difference in how good I look and feel. They're designed so I can make them more challenging as my conditioning improves. My wife, who is in good shape, also enjoys these tapes. It's truly Yoga for everyone! Lilias has a warm, non-intimidating manner, and unlike some of the popular yoga videos, it doesn't waste time on fancy settings and show-offy postures. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stress reduction you'll want to stick with
After being sedentary for a couple of years (grad school combined with a full-time job will do that to you), I decided it was time to exercise again. I tried a few tapes but Lilias's were the ones that really hooked me. I love the variety of the tapes -- I do all four over the course of a week and feel that I'm getting a good all-over workout. I always feel completely de-stressed after doing the tapes, and I'm quite a high-strung person. If I have any complaints, it's that "Serenity Now" is perhaps the least relaxing of the four. I'd been hoping for something a bit more meditative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga For Everyone
Why is this video set so wonderful? 1. There are four tapes. One concentrates on the mind, the other two on specific parts of your body and the final on cardiovascular fitness. We all know if your mind isn't into it, sometimes you just can't push yourself to workout. It's true a run or vigorous workout does wonders for releasing stress, but you must get yourself to the workout! How many times do you decide to just sit and vegetate rather than make it to the gym or go for that run? With the "Serenity Now" video, you can calm your mind and also give your body a gentle workout that may precede the more intense three videos in the series. The "Legs and Buns" video and the "Arms and Abs" video both concentrate on specific muscle groups and parts of the body. They contain intense yet peaceful, flowing postures that really work muscles you don't even know you had! The "Cardio Challenge" video is much the same and concetrates on a series of repetitive postures, beginning slowly and quickening the pace so you're performing flowing exact movements that will definitely get that heart rate up and make the brow sweat a bit. The key here is that they're intense but they don't involve a lot of jumping around. You can obtain just as good a workout through the peacefulness and serenity of yoga than if you were to take an aerobics step class with loud pounding music and twenty or thirty others jumping around you. 2. Lilias is not concerned with fancy footwear or body baring leotards. She is a beautiful woman and not your average every day gym rat in your local workout meat market. She has a very calm presence and one that's soothing and encouraging as well. She speaks in a pleasant, calm voice and warns you of problems you might encounter while going through the combinations of poses. Her demeanor belies the tremendous strength, agility and ability with which she performs the yoga poses. It's clear she's been doing this for years and years. In fact, when I was younger, I would watch her series on PBS as she had a yoga workout program on there for quite some time. 3. You don't need 1000 square feet of shining hardwood floors to use these videos. In fact, the exercises are completed barefoot and in comfortable clothes that allow movement, not restrict it. The postures are completed in a small space so you don't have to move that coffee table! 4. You don't need yoga mats or a block although you may find these things nice to have as you advance in your practice. Lilias suggests using pillows or a belt in place of the former and these work just as well. 5. The videos appeal to a wide range of people. I am a housewife and freelance writer. I am not athletic but manage to stay fit with my daily routine and by eating sensibly. My husband, on the other hand, is an army officer who runs quite a bit. I would say he's in prime physical condition. We started doing the videos together and not only do they appeal to the both of us and they're something we can do together at the end of a long day, they get his heart rate up as well, and they're much less taxing on the joints compared to running three or so miles a day as he's done. 6. The videos are short but provide the necessary daily workout time period. Each video is around 35 minutes in length so you're not saying, "I have no time to do an hour video." Just 35 minutes works wonders. They're such fun and I feel so good after doing one, I often do another and sometimes another. 7. They really do work! I'm not going to fib here. I don't enjoy exercise unless it has to do with swimming. I've never subscribed to high (or low for that matter!) impact aerobics, gym memberships or jogging. I've tried a few other workout videos but they were either too long or involved too much jumping around or were just plain boring. The day after I completed one of Lilias' videos, I could tell a difference in my body, and just this morning, after doing the "Cardio Challenge" with my husband last night, he awoke to pleasantly sore and taut muscles- a sure sign it's working! And, look how long yoga has been around. In my time in Nepal a couple summers ago, I never saw an out of shape yogi! 8. The pleasant background music, lovely postures with beautiful names AND a different "cool down" for each of the videos adds to the appeal of this series. Above all, if you find you need something different in your life in the way of exercise, and you're looking for a way to simplify your life (time to go to the gym...money for a membership or classes) and bring more peacefulness and serenity to your presence and being, these videos are definitely for you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates at its best!
I bought this DVD because I was getting sick of the other DVD's that claim to be pilates workouts. This pilates work out is very imformative and very beneficial. I am actually seeing results from this workout after only 3 weeks. Karen also keeps you motivated to continue. Not to mention the benefit of getting two 50 minute workouts for the price of one. Beware that you need a resist-a-ring for one of the workouts though, and those can be difficult to find. Great, great workout and I would recommend it to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for lower body, back, and abs
I bought this DVD along with the Kathy Smith: Pilates for the Lower Body DVD, and this one is a much better value for the money, giving two 50-minute workouts ... compared to Kathy Smith's one 1/2 hour workout ...Kathy Smith's video does give a better introduction to Pilates and working the "powerhouse" (abs pulled to the navel, pelvic floor pulled up, and gluts held in tight), though Karen's video does a better job of integrating these moves all together, with an emphasis on stretching and toning and an awareness of posture. I recommend renting Kathy's video to get the basics and so you can see how you can get away with not needing the resist-a-ring, and then using Karen's video to tone inner thighs and work the abs. There really isn't much of an upper body workout, though I like the workouts nonetheless. I think an intro to Pilates should be added, and agree that better chaptering to move to some of the sections that you like best could improve navigation. I also found that scanning backwards too quickly got me back to the first DVD menu and not to the start of the workout, which can cost precious minutes in a tight morning routine.

4-0 out of 5 stars need resist a ring (what a deal)
Hello everyone, I am new to pilates and found this tape very easy to understand and helpful. I watched the tape and found out about the resist a ring. It's not an inexpensive item. But if you have a TJMAXX in your area they sell them for $14.99.
Hope this helps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hurt my lower back
I did this dvd last summer for a month and saw some results but I hurt my back severely. I hated pilates and gave up but now I really like Crunch pick your spot pilates and yoga tapes.
Ana Caban and KAren Voight tapes really aggravated my back. Be careful!

3-0 out of 5 stars More of a leg workout
This video is a descent workout if you aren't really wanting pilates. However, I don't feel that it is a total body work out. It is more of a work out for your legs and abs.. It will leave your legs sore, but you need the pilates magic cirle in order to have any benefit from this video.
Also the ab and back set isn't much different from the total body set.
All in all it will give you a work out-just mot much for the upper body and not what I would consider pilates. ... Read more

Pilates focuses on strengthening the core or midsection, so a Pilates-based abdominal workout is a natural. The first of the three 10-minute sessions led by instructor Keli Roberts utilizes many of the classic Pilates moves: curls, leg circles, the 100, criss-crosses, a teaser sequence, and swan dive. The second set combines some traditional mid-section exercises with Pilates resulting in a mix of sit-ups, the can can, leg stretches, scissors, and rollups. Stabilization is the goal of the final and most difficult series, starting with rolldowns from a standing position, pushups, and rollups back up again. Other exercises use the plank and side positions and require both skill and balance. Fortunately, one of Roberts's assistants demonstrates modifications. With so many variations crammed into each short set, beginners may benefit from watching the exercises first and making liberal use of the pause button as they learn. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great option for working your abs and entire midsection
Quick Fix Pilates Abs is an excellent exercise video for targeting not only your abdominal area, but also your entire midsection, or "core." The tape consists of three 10-minute ab programs which become progressively more difficult. Instructor Keli Roberts jumps right into the workout, offering good form pointers but not much detailed instruction. Therefore, prior familiarity with Pilates is a must for this workout, especially given that there are several challenging, intermediate/advanced level Pilates moves included (some modifications are shown).

Program 1 contains a classic Pilates matwork sequence, although the exercises are not performed in the traditional order. Keli alternates more accessible, beginner's level Pilates moves such as leg circles and the hundred with more challenging moves such as the shoulder bridge, the rollover, and modified teasers. In Program 2, there is a greater focus on obliques, beginning with the can-can and then moving through most of the exercises in the Pilates "stomach series," including single and double leg stretch, scissors, and criss-cross. This program also includes moves to work your back such as swimming and back extensions. The third program is the toughest by far, and it includes some quite challenging moves. This section begins with two sets of push-up and then continues with plank work both from a push-up position and from an elbows down position. This is also the only section which includes exercises from the Pilates side kicks series; these exercises really work not only your abdominals, but also your outer thigh/hip area.

It's important to note that there are no warmups/cool-downs included in this workout: each program is a full 10 minutes of intense toning work. This would be a very good video for anyone who enjoys Pilates and wants to some very different, concentrated Pilates routines.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Pilates Core"
First of all, I really think this workout should be called "Pilates Core" rather than "Pilates Abs", because that is exactly what it is. Don't get me wrong, this is a great workout, and you can get an excellent intermediate ab workout if you just do the last 5 minutes of workout 1 and the first 6 minutes of workout 2. The rest of the DVD seems to focus on core rather than just abs. There are three 10 minute workouts. Workout #1 is called Classical Pilates. This workout begins with some slow crunch type exercises, but then it goes into several minutes of single leg circles and some bridge type exercises. The last 5 minutes offer great exercises for the abs: hundreds with legs bent or out to 45%, criss-crossing leg lowers, and teasers. Workout #2 is called Core Combination. The first 6 minutes contains some more great ab work: crunches (halfway down, all the way up), roll downs, single and double leg stretch, scissors, and slow moving bicycle type exercise. After 6 minutes, you begin to work your back, glutes, and hamstrings with the swimmer. Then you do some cat back arches and some balancing table top exercises where you reach your right arm and left leg straight out and then repeat on the other side. Workout #3 is called Stabilization, and, to me, felt a lot like a core rather than an ab workout. It starts with standing forward bends, then you get into the plank position (here I thought, "Ok, here comes the ab work", but I was wrong because you begin to do pushups!). Then you lay on your stomach, stretch your abs, and do the breaststroke. This is followed by some table top exercises and some excellent core work while on your side. There is also some more plank work where you alternate lifting your legs.
Overall this is a great core workout, but if you want to focus on abs, you will have to work around some of the stuff on this DV

4-0 out of 5 stars Quick & Effective
I just received this dvd but already i know that i am going to enjoy it. i have been doing pilates for 7 months & some of the exercises in workout 3 i had to modify (more for balance purposes than anything else). the three 10 minute sections go by quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
I am a personal trainer and I'm thrilled to find a DVD with new and different ab exercises! The exercises are challenging for the intermediate exerciser and modifications are shown to make it easier for the beginner. Another great workout from Keli Roberts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout
I'm new to pilates and found I actually could do these excercises. (I tried another program and it was way beyond me.) I love the "Quick Fix" series as they allow you to mix up your workout. I recommend this as an addition to your routine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fitness DVD
I would consider myself an intermediate or advanced level in step aerobics. I was skeptical of a 30 minute workout because I wasn't sure it would be intense enough for me to feel as though I got a high quality workout. This workout is awesome! I guarantee you'll be working those muscles and burning fat and SWEATING by the time you are done. It is a fun workout, but you will definitely feel it the next day. I do the 30 minute workout and follow immediately with the "special feature" 10 minute abs routine at the end. The first time I did this extra abs routine I couldn't even finish it! But, I quickly built up my strength and it is now one of my favorite ab routine around. I highly recommend this fitness DVD! Plus, you just have to love Tamilee, don't you?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!!
I have basically grown up watching and exercising to Tamilee, so I knew that when I bought this DVD I would not have any regrets. Even if you don't have a step right now (like me), you will still get a great workout!! I was sweating by the end of the 30 minutes. It is not at all boring or hard to follow. And she is not annoying like a lot of instuctors you see on TV or DVD's these days. I have raved about and recommended this DVD to my boss and my friends. I can't wait to try her "Tighter Assets - Cardio Blast" DVD. My only complaint is that there is not a buff burnette amongst the blondes!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Full body work-out in 30 minutes
I love this DVD! It is so easy to follow and combines cardio with free weights, lower body and some ab work. Tamilee and Jessica use a step but Cindy doesn't. What I also love about this work-out is that it's only 30 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!
When I did this workout for the first time, I was really feeling it the next day...especially in my obliques, buns and thighs. I have this on DVD, which includes her 10 min. ab workout as a bonus. Tamilee proves that you can get a great workout in just 30 minutes, but it is mostly lower body. So, I do her "I Want Those Arms" workout (included on the "I Want That Body" DVD) first, to work my arms and shoulders and serve as a warmup, since this workout has no warmup. I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser, and I use a 6-inch step. I rotate this workout with Tamilee's Tighter Assets Cardio Blast, Tamilee's I Want That Body and The Firm (the latest ones), all of which I highly recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
This is an escellent DVD for people seriuos about their fitness. Excellent for intermediates and advanced. Not for beginners Though. The only star she lost becasue she does not give enough instructions and is kind of hard to get right the first few times.
ALthough 30 minutes, but you will break a respectable sweat. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite Leslie tape
While I love Leslie's walking tapes, this is not my favorite. Her fat burning 3 Mile with the 2-lb. weights is a much better workout IMO. Also, her 4 Mile Super Challenge is a great workout. This one was a disappointment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good i use it every other day.
I have almost all of her tapes, This one is good, i dont care for the Stretchie, i like the ones with weights better I think they work harder. but this one goes well with my others. I use it a bit because i can do it in the bedroom Its easy to follow. and works you moderate level. try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video!
I love this video! I usually walk 3 miles outdoors--but due to cold weather I have moved my walk to the den. This video is a good workout and easy to follow!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun And Challenging!
I just tried Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pound Express 3 Mile Advanced Walk and it is definitely a winner. I could feel the glutes and hamstrings really getting a deep workout. The atmosphere is very colorful, the exercisers are dressed the same and there are all shapes and sizes of people whom appear in the dvd. Leslie is soooo encouraging and excellent with the cueing of new moves. I am looking forward to doing this one again and again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Exercise Program!
This exercise program is great. You don't even realize that you are walking 3 miles, the time goes by fast, and you won't get bored, because you are always switching steps, but it isn't confusing like some video exercise programs I've done. You maintain a nice pace throughout, and the warm-up/cool-down times are good. I highly recommend this tape. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Preschool Workout with a Tiny Bit of Flair
This video was not at all what I expected, primarily because I expect something that has "bellydance" on the cover to, well, relate to bellydancing. Aside from a cheap-looking "Arabic" set, this had nothing to do with bellydance and everything to do with bouncing up and down over and over. In bare feet. Yes, a high-impact workout without shoes and yes, it is as uncomfortable as it sounds.

The cueing is possitively awful. Often times the person cueing will tell you to "get ready" for something that the dancers are already partway into doing. And even when she doesn't do that, her counts are very off-beat and distracting. The majority of the moves are never explained, so you have to try to keep up with what the instructors are doing while trying to figure out HOW they're doing it.

The "dance" is basically a bunch of jumping, with some sexy arm and hip moves thrown in at times. It reminds me of the dance class I was in when I was 5 -- lots of jumping with very little actual dancing.

Finally, my superficial reason for disliking this video. I expect a fitness instructor to look fit. Yes, we all have our flaws, but most of us know how to cover them, especially if we're in the spotlight. Apparently these girls disagree, as one of their stomachs hangs over the waistband of her pants. And I'm supposed to expect a "slim down" to come of this? Granted I have a bit of a stomach, too, but I'm also not telling people that if they do my video they'll be "slim."

I was very excited about this video since all of the previous reviews were positive, but I've found it doesn't live up to its hype.

If you're looking for something beautiful and fun that will teach you how to bellydance, you'll be disappointed, as well. If you're going to be happy just jumping all over the place (it IS a calorie-burn, at least), then you may not mind it so much -- but a jumprope is a lot cheaper and just as effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I love this DVD! It does give you a workout. I have the Twins Basic Dance Video so I knew how to do some of the moves. The moves are easy enough so that someone who has never done bellydance before can catch on. The sound is great, video quality is really good. It even has some footage of Marina dancing. She is not as good as the twins but it helps you to see dancing in action. The twins have done a great job. They are both very beautiful & elegant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workout!
This is the best workout video/DVD I have ever done. In less than two months, the Bellydance Fitness for Beginners: Slim Down has depleted all the pudge in my waist. I have noticed a difference in my posture due to my stronger abdominal muscles, which has also increased my confidence. My friends and family are completely envious of my new change, and have also started this workout.

The Slim Down gives a good cardio workout that you don't have in the Basic Moves, Hips, Buns & Thighs, and Arms & Abs. By switching movements frequently, you still get an excellent workout all over, and it is not as tedious feeling as Fat Burn.

The best part about all of the Bellydance Fitness for Beginners is they do not require much floor space, and you can do them anywhere that you can take your DVD player!

I do recommend trying Neena and Veena's Basic Moves before progessing to any of their other workouts, just to get a feel for the motions before they are thrown at you in a faster paced set.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Workout! It's helpful to know the moves first.
This is indeed a fun workout. The only recommendation I would make would be to learn the bellydance moves first from their Discover Bellydance series(Basic moves, Beyond Basic Dance, Mystic Dance). I found it a bit difficult to keep up with them because I didn't know the moves very well...so I went back to the Discover Bellydance videos to learn them. But once you know them, Veena and Neena will put those lessons to work on your body in an upbeat workout! And, yes, I do agree with a previous reviewer...a sports bra is definitely helpful for the well-endowed as you will be shimmying and bouncing quite a bit.

4-0 out of 5 stars So fun!
Ok, so I was skeptical as to whether or not I would like this workout DVD. I was pleasantly suprised. It was so different from my usual work outs that I found myself having fun (mostly laughing at myself). The steps are simple, though for the coordination-deficients out there (me), you may have to pause the video once in a while to practice the move before continuing.

Sometimes the camera does closeups at inopportune moments -- this causes you to see only the hip movements, but not the foot placement, for example. That can get annoying.

I was a little dissapointed that the "trailers" did not have videos from Neena and Veena's series. Instead it was for some other woman. Also, they weren't really trailers but segments from those workouts. This was sort of nice because it gives you an idea what the "flavor" of the workout will be, I assume.

In short, after trying this video, I definately intend on buying other Neena and Veena workouts to spice up my usual work out home routine!

By the way... I don't mean to be crass, but I suggest wearing a heavy duty sports bra for the well endowed. The workout requires a lot of bouncing. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Shake those hips!
This is a fun dance workout if you enjoy Latin dance music and really get into the dances: Salsa, cha, cha, samba and merengue. I am a good dancer so I found the steps very easy to learn. You just have to let yourself go and get into the enthusiasm of the dancing. I find it to be an intermediate kind of aerobic workout. beginners can just do the first 20 minutes. I do work up a sweat. Do it in work out clothes you feel kind of sexy in, not lumpy sweat pants. It seems to help me get into the spirit of the video which is definately sexy! I gave it 3 stars because Kathy Smith herself looks a little awkward to me doing this video. She is not wearing the right outfit for it either. She looks like she is going on shopping errands in her modest sweater set. The dancers around her look much more natural and sensual as they dance. But, that's just my opinion. Her moves are stiff compared to the other dancers, so I prefer to follow the other dancers. They are more fun to watch. Other than that, it is fun to do as a break from my other videos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for a "Light Day" Workout...
I am yet another Kathy Smith fan and I admit this is not one of her more rigorous videos. However, I am NOT a dancer and am not at all coordinated, but I like Kathy so I bought and tried this one -- and I really enjoyed it. I didn't feel clumsy like I usually do dancing {or attempting to!}. I think that, if you view this routine as a workout to do on an 'easy' workout day rather than a hardcore cardioblast, you'll really enjoy it. As the other reviewers have pointed out, the time DID fly! I personally do a lot of tough aerobic exercise videos plus strength training -- I push myself and my body a lot. I like to work out 4-7 days a week, doing both early morning and early evening routines in a single day, and I like to alternate difficult routines with lighter cardio that still works the heart and muscles but is a bit more relaxing. That is also the recommended way to work out - tough days/easier days. So for that kind of fitness mix, this video is a great addition -- fun, fun, fun! But if you only work out 3 days a week, perhaps you should stick with some tougher routines like Smith's Aerobox {great!}, her Kickboxing tape, her Peak Fat Burning video, Karen Voight's Energy Sprint, Tae Bo Advanced, Step Reebok Intense Moves, etc. So "chill" a bit, think of this as a Ricky Martin primer, and enjoy! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS FUN!!!
At least I thought so! I keep up a very tight workout schedule, and "mix up" my workouts to include weights and aerobics. I just tried the "Latin Rythym Workout," and it was great...all I need now is a partner! I would say that I am an "intermediate" in aerobics, and believe it or not, I was having such a good time (as were my animals watching me!) the time flew by and the first section was finished before I knew it. My heart rate was mildly elevated, but as with most aerobics, once one knows the moves, or keeps it up, one can "pump it up," so to speak. I went right into the second section, and could not finish because the dancing kept up-tempo, and as I really "got into it," I felt that I had "had it," so to speak. If you are looking for something a little different to add to your aerobic routines, try the Latin Dancing...the dancers are excellent, and one has to give Kathy Smith an "A" for keeping her workouts fresh, plus she's actually pretty good! A live band really adds to the atmosphere, and one can make the most of this workout. Mainly, this workout is fun. It is perfect for beginners, and as one progresses, one can really get into the moves and "dance" to the whole tape. What is even better, if you are ever invited to go "clubbin'," you will NOT be left behind since you are learning some of the most popular and fun Latin dancing steps: The Merenge', the Cha Cha, and the Salsa. Very fun, effective, and truly an added "spice" to any workout for beginner's to intermediate. Just be ready to get those hips and legs movin'!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun work out
I'm not much of a dancer, but I enjoy doing this one because the steps aren't overly complicated. I expected not to get much of a work out and was pleasantly surprised to find myself sweating after the first time I did it. It's not like her killer, butt kicking step work outs but some days I just want something that isn't killer and this tape is it. Plus, it's fun to do.

I do have to agree with other reviewers about Kathy's twin set. It's pretty, but it does kind of stand out. The blonde behind Kathy is very into the work out and quite a good dancer, but I found her to be kind of distracting(I also think she has a set of work out videos of her own somewhere). The guy in the back looks like someone they just pulled in to make the other guy feel less outnumbered. He's not even doing the squats when everyone else is and he's out of step in a few spots.

Clara and Ashley, the dance instructors, look like they're having a good time though.

All in all I would recommend this tape to anyone who wants something a little different(and the music is pretty good too).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout
I think that this workout was pretty good. Because it didn't FEEL like working out, I didn't think I was doing anything. However, after I found myself out of breath and sweaty, I discovered it is a pretty good workout. It was just that it wasn't boring, which made it different than other videos.

My only complaint about this video is that the music was somewhat stale and Kathy yelled too loud. There was only one good song in the dance workout sequence. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite KV video!
This is my fourth and favorite KV video! Both the AM and PM workouts are wonderful! The AM workout is ultra energizing and leaves you feeling refreshed and ready for the day. The reps are tough but Karen really inspires you to keep going and to feel the burn! The PM video is really my favorite. I sit all day at the office and this video has some truly wonderful stretches that leave my aching body feeling relaxed as well as strong! I recommed this video for anyone - probably intermediate level and above - who needs something quick and effective in the morning and something effective yet relaxing in the evening. I also liked the PM yoga moves a lot more than the straight up yoga videos (I don't have enough balance for those). The PM yoga stretches are a nice intro to yoga, so you might also consider this video, if you are thinking about trying yoga.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video to stretch, tone, sweat and make exercising FUN!
I got this DVD in a Karen Voight combo pack and it quickly became my favorite new video. In the past I've really enjoyed Callanetic's videos (Callan Pickney), but I found this video refreshing and upbeat. I do also recommend Callanetics, but found that she's not very motivating, and it's nice to have Karen be someone to keep you going through the tough moves - but not in an overly cheery or annoying way! I sweat tremendously in this video and feel like it gives me an excellent overall workout. I like to do the am portion in the morning, along with the first 10 minutes of the pm video (abs) for a very complete workout in 35 minutes... I like yoga (the second part of the pm video) but usually do it at a later point, or with friends. It's a wonderful video and highly recommended for anyone who wants a good challenge and wants to feel like you're getting a thorough workout!

4-0 out of 5 stars Tough but good
Man, I was sore the next day. But I know once I'm able to do the whole thing, and all the reps with her, I will be in shape. The steps are kinda tough to get (especially the double punch and kick thing), but I think after trying a few more times I'll get it down. I don't give it the fifth star for the reason of the camera shots. They switch back and forth sometimes which can be visually confusing, and they did this blur thing when I was trying to get one of the steps right... But she vocally cues everything well, especially during the yoga section (I hate it when I'm in the downward facing dog position for too long because the instructor hasn't said to switch - and hi! I can't see you!) Overall a very challenging video - and that's the point right?

5-0 out of 5 stars Energized and Encouraged!
This is my first Karen Voight workout DVD and I really enjoy doing it! I've done several other workouts and after a while I'd loose interest in them. With Karen though, I have felt and seen immediate results! I look forward to working out every morning and evening! She keeps you moving, focused and motivated!!! I have benefitted greatly from both the AM and PM workouts.I would definately recommend this to anyone who is tight on time, but wants the benefits of long hours at the gym. Enjoy!!!!!~

1-0 out of 5 stars Only if you're a professional dancer
I tried. I really did. But I just could not 'get' the moves in this workout. I'm about as uncoordinated as they come, so I'm sure some of it is me; however, I found that I simply could not contort myself into the positions necessary. Cross this foot over that foot, then kick yourself in the rear. No thanks. I nearly fell over several times just trying. ... Read more
