4-0 out of 5 stars not too demanding, but effective
I've got about half a dozen yoga DVDs and I find that this is the one I use the most often because it is not physically demanding, but is really effective.

The Rodney Yee program (AM) is shorter and focuses mainly on stretching out the back; I find it really helps when I've got any kind of lower back problem or just at stretching me out and getting me ready for the day.

The Patricia Walden program (PM) is slightly longer and focuses more on standing poses; it also has a very good deep relaxation at the end.

The only disadvantage to these Gaim DVDs is that they are programmed so that you have to play a longish commercial for all of their other products (what exacly is "organic clothing" anyway?) before you can start your workout. If you use the DVD regularly, the commercial gets really annoying after you've seen it about 20 times.

But all in all, this is a very useful DVD. It's accessible for beginners but also useful for people who've been doing yoga for a while but are looking for a short, focused, effective workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD - new yoga enthusiast
I never understood the appeal of yoga before. I bought this DVD, and now I see why people love yoga so much. I had tried another yoga tape and other exercise tapes before, but most were not nearly as good as this one. I am now hooked. There are two 20 minute yoga segments. The first is called "AM Yoga" with Rodney Yee, and the second segment, called "PM Yoga", is with Patricia Walden. Both segments were terrific, but I especially enjoyed the "AM" segment with Rodney Yee. I found that during his section I could listen to Yee peacefully talk me through the poses without being glued to the tv screen. It allowed me to really enjoy the DVD more. When I was finished with his 20 minute segment, I felt so relaxed - it was surprising...I am looking now for other Yee DVD's. On the second segment, it wasn't as easy to follow the instructor. I imagine it would be easier to follow after a week of sessions to get used to it. Still, this is an excellent DVD for anyone curious about the appeal of yoga and looking for an excellent intro. You won't be doing any moves that are too advanced or aerobic in this DVD, but it is extremely relaxing. Also, the 20 minute segments are great for busy people who don't have endless amounts of time to fit in exercise. This is a great investment overall.

2-0 out of 5 stars Falls Short, just like the length
I just bought this DVD along with another Yoga DVD. This one is more of a meditation and relaxation video than a workout video. Most people say the segments are each 20 minutes long, but that's only if you do all of the meditation. The workouts are actually 13 minutes for the AM and 18 minutes for the PM. The other video I purchased has so much more to offer with more than one routine and much more length. If you don't want to spend a lot of time working out, press stop when you're ready. This video is over before you know it. In addition, the PM section wakes you up more than the AM, so I'd reverse the order when using. Definitely go for a Bryan Kest video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and relaxing...
Works for both my small boy and myself. Relaxing, easy to follow, and not too long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD!!
I do the PM part of this DVD each morning and can't believe the difference it makes in my body after just 25 minutes of yoga. This DVD is perfect for those who are not very flexible (me included). What I can't figure out is why the woman in the PM part is in the middle of a sandstorm while Rodney Yee (AM part) is in an idyllic beach setting! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the moderatly overweight/moderately out of shape
I just got this DVD today and finished the workout a few minutes ago. I can definitly feel the burn in my abs, and I can tell my arms and legs will be a bit sore tommorrow! I am a 20 yr old college student, about 30 lbs overweight, not toned at all and pretty much out of shape but not completly (I can jog a 12 min mile and then I have to walk for a few minutes before I can even think of jogging some more). I found this video to be at a good level for me, and I think if I was less or more in shape it would still be good. I could do all of the exercises, although I could not get the full range of motion on a few (that was in part because while Denise reccomends 3-8lb weights, I only have 10 lbs). Denise talks constantly, and I found that motivating, although I would definitly not buy a yoga or other relaxing workout from her! The first 20 minutes uses free weights and the second 20 minutes uses a stability ball and free weights. The DVD does not pause in between the workout sections, but it is clear that if you only want a short workout, the time when Denise gets her stability ball is the time to stop the DVD. I did the first 20 min, made a 10 min phone call, and did the second 20 min. I am pretty sure I could have done the tape straight through with only a quick water break in the middle, although I was definitly breathing hard and sweating light-moderate. (The workout is not exactly cardio, but since I am out of shape, the effort of lifting weights and switching positions brought up my heartrate to where it would be maybe a minute or two into a slow jog)I also really liked that there were many excersizes to work each muscle and very few reps of each, so the muscle was worked for enough time without the movements getting to repetitive. I also liked how a boring movement such as arm curls with weights was made a little more bearable by rocking back in forth. Overall, I liked this tape and I feel it really worked my muscles, and as I strengthen I can increase the weight and range of motion and still be challanged.

5-0 out of 5 stars gotta be one of the best
Denise Austin is very motivational and unlike other exercise dvds I have used, she uses the most efficient techniques to work on my exact problem areas, and all within 45 minutes! I love the combination of stretching, pilates, weights, and balance ball. I never stick to exercise dvds but I think I will this one because I totally see the difference!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Effective!!!
Denise Austin is THE fitness icon of today! She is fun and motivating in this video. I am a Certified Personal Trainer and would highly recommend this video to anyone interested in getting fit without paying a huge sum of money! Denise Austin is easy to follow and using the ball and/or dumbbells is a great way to tone and burn fat. The video is about 40 minutes long and although it is not a "cardio" workout I could still feel my heart rate getting up there. If your thinking about purchasing this DVD, buy it!! I promise you will see results!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this video!
This video tape not only toned all of my problem areas, but gave me energy and confidence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Okay She Has an Annoying Voice...
It is not a cardio workout nor is it advertised as one. It is two separate twenty minute workouts. 1-20 minute using only weights and the other using weights and the stability ball. I use this to tone and for the abdominals. I use Jane Fonda Step Aerobic or Billy Blanks Cardio for a CARDIO workout. I am working out and really don't care about her voice. I can ignore it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not for True Beginners
My goal as a 39-yr old, fairly athletic man was to learn yoga basics before I embarassed myself in a class at the Y. I wanted to learn some breathing exercises, which were never mentioned here. I wanted to learn positions too, and at one point Rodney said he would show introductory versions of his more difficult ones (imagine some tripod thing, but angrier), but that never came. He told me to move my "sip" bone. I'm guessing occipital, but how about a little help here? Beginner, hello.

For intermediates this is probably a great workout-Rodney knows what he's doing. As a beginner, it wasn't for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video for building strength and flexibility
I was somewhat worried when I bought this dvd that it would just be Rodney's "Total Body Power Yoga" dvd in different packaging. It turned out to be a great purchase, just what I was looking for. The first routine mixes sun salutations with arm balancing poses, at 20 minutes it is a perfect invigorating warm- up to start the day with. The second routine is a great way to stretch out and relax after a stressful day or a long run. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Less than what I had expected.
This workout is far from spectacular. It starts out with brief instructions from Denise on what she means when she says certain things and how your form should look. The first 20 minutes segment is comprised entirely of pilates moves. She takes you through a very typical pilates routine - scissors, leg circles, etc., nothing special here. The second segment is supposed to be tougher, so she says, and combines the same basic pilates moves with some yoga. The whole process is very relaxing. There's no corny music and she does a good job of not talking too much. I did noticed a strengthening in my midsection (or "powerhouse" as we have come to know it) but it's nothing that a good series of crunches or other ab work wouldn't do.

I would not recommend using this dvd as a means for transforming your whole body. It's not that tough unless you're a beginner, and after that there's no way to make it more challenging. I found that I was no longer challenged after only about a dozen times using the dvd. What good is a workout tape if it's not going to stand the test of time? Because of this, I use it more as a second workout of the day or on those days where I barely exercise at all, either out of laziness or time restrictions, as it is pretty quick. If you have realistic expectations, this can be a nice addition to your collection, as it has been to mine, but I would not recommend this dvd as part of a bigger, serious pilates agenda.

4-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this video.
First off, I have to say that I love most of Denise Austin's videos and I also do her Fit&Lite and Daily Workout on Lifetime TV. I exercise in general for about 3-4 hours a day, so I'm not exactly a beginner, but I absolutely love the pilates to firm my legs and abs. The first part of the video seems easy to me, but the second part is more challenging.

I would not recommend, however, doing the second workout if you don't know some basic yoga principles, but its great if you do.

The only real problem I do have w/ the video is that she does tell you when she changes sides.

Other than that GREAT VIDEO!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 20mins To A Dancer's Body!
I've been a fan of Denise Austin's work for over two years - working out with her has always been fun and motivating, and I am always happy with the results I get with her videos.
This Pilates workout has certainly brought great results to my body - and it only took two weeks to get it. Denise puts together two segments into 20 minute workouts, with the first workout working mostly on the abdominals and lengthening the body to get a long, lean look. The second brings more of a challenging, more complex workout that combines Pilates and Yoga poses to create a more intense workout for the body.

I found this workout to be totally effective and worth every penny, but here is a WARNING: I would NOT recommend this workout for beginners. You would need to be at least intermediate in Yoga, or another kind of flexible exercise. If you think you're pretty flexible, this workout might work for you. But I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wasn't used to working out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great pilates workout
Thank you Denise for introducing me so nicely to Pilates, I loved your workout, it's working wonders on my tummy and legs, I wish people would give your voice a break, I enjoyed doing the workout from beginning to end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Post-Baby
I have had two c-sections in the past three years. I bought this video during my second pregnancy. Anyone who has had a baby or had a c-section knows that your abs loosen up and lose some of their strength. I had never done Pilates before trying this video but had heard a lot of good things about it. I find this video very relaxing and challenging. I have now been doing this video three times a week in conjunction with other exercises. My abdominals are better than ever and I was able to tell a drastic difference in how my abdominals were responding with this video than I had after my first c-section where I just did traiditional crunches. I recommend this video to all my friends who are mommy's and they love it as well. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good speed, great instruction!
While other reviewers may have found this workout too fast, I like the speed of this DVD. It's similar to the speed of transitions in other power yoga videos and ashtanga yoga classes I've taken. I also think this is a great workout for new (but not brand new) yogis. I've been practicing yoga for about 6 months, and I find the sun salutations at the beginning make me break a sweat. During the remainder of the workout, I have time to get into each pose, focus on it for a few breaths, and then move to the next pose.

I also LOVE the level of detail Rodney Yee gives for each pose. It's really easy to do poses wrong when you learn from a video, because there's no one to correct you, but Rodney Yee gives great instructions throughout the workout. He also consistently tells you when to breathe, which is key in yoga.

The only reservation I have about this is the overly-formal instructor voice-over. While some people may like this format (so there's no instructor talking, chatting, and joking while demonstrating the poses), I find it disconcerting to have a disembodied voice tell me to "bring your sacrum to your pelvis." ... My what? I had to look up sacrum to figure out what he was talking about, and even after I did that I couldn't figure out how to bring it closer to my pelvis. A few less formal tips would be helpful. Also, I usually like instructors' chattiness, because it gives me the illusion that other people are doing yoga with me. I definitely miss that in this DVD.

Overall, though, this is a great DVD, and a good workout for the near-beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Power Yoga Workout - EXCELLENT Quality
I purchased this dvd after reading several reviews. I was looking for a challenging workout, as I've been practicing yoga for about 5 years now. I've been taking ashtanga classes about once a week and going to bikrams classes on and off so I think I have a pretty good experience level. This dvd definitely wasn't one of the most challenging workouts I've done but it was excellent for a dvd. I read the other reviews for this one and I think there is something to be said if you are a beginner. Most yoga dvds are out to try and create a workout for everyone so they do gear towards beginners more by having extra instruction and guidance. I don't think this is the case with this workout, it's really more for intermediate levels. You have to have some sense of proper alignment and where you are at in your practice. I think if I had tried this when I first began I could have gotten hurt because I didn't know how much to push. I really liked the fact that this workout was over an hour, most yoga dvds are about a half an hour, barely enough to really get a workout. I also found that I was incredibly relaxed after this workout. I did this right before going to work and I felt fantastic for the rest of the day. I'd recommend this to anyone except the absolute beginner, it's a must for your collection!

1-0 out of 5 stars Aerobics & Yoga? PLEASE!!!
Having practicing yoga for years (not only the exercises, but also the philosophy), I didn't care for this DVD at all. IF you want an aerobics DVD, then by all means get it! I felt the tape lacked in safety (especially when it comes to your back, and DEFINITY NOT for anyone who's ever had back problems.) The warnings are occasionally there, but are usually seem to have been throw in as an afterthought, and at times after doing something that could have caused serious problems. It also lacks the basic principals of yoga & seems to have used to "Yoga" name and a few poses (which are not executed correctly) to promote an aerobics programs that I feel lacks in safety & in common sense health principals... IF you are interested in Yoga, or even really in your health, this DVD is NOT for you! I'd strongly recommend either viewing Patricia Patrick's shows on PBS,buying her tapes which are available through Amazon.com "Priscillas Yoga Maintenance Routine" and "Ready,Set,Stretch" , or waiting for her DVDs to come out very soon!!!

I have used this video and was seriously unimpressed... IF you want a cross between yoga and aerobics, try some Tai Chi - you'll get better results and I believe will be a lot safer.. some of the 'bouncing' in this video can do serious harm to people IMHO.

4-0 out of 5 stars Speedy yoga
Yeah, ok...so I'm not exactly as flexible as Rodney, but I found the pace a bit fast. This is definitely for the more advanced yoga-sters and it will give you a work out. Also, if you have a bad back or previous injury, watch out for some of the more strenuous "rolling" poses. I found it difficult to get in the breathing, which is the most important part of yoga. I like the routine though. Several of the poses are repeated so if you mess up the first one (or feel a bit wobbly), you have a chance to tighten up. By the end of the hour-long session, you will feel very relaxed and you will have earned the gallon of water you will consume. So kudos to Rodney for a great workout routine, but I may need to pause it now and then.

The importance of the breath is familiar to anyone who practices yoga, as is its significance in the pursuit of a deeper, more meditative state. But it never hurts to be reminded of that connection, especially as yoga's growing popularity has turned it in a more active, less contemplative direction. The title of this DVD program pretty much describes the content; it consists of two approximately 30-minute sections, one ("Conscious Relaxation") devoted to several easy, relaxation-inducing poses and the other ("Conscious Breahing") focusing entirely on the breath itself. (Also included are an 8-minute "guided meditation" and an interview with instructor Rodney Yee.) It's unlikely that you'll break a sweat, and you won't "go for the burn," as yoga practitioners seem intent on doing these days--but you might reach a place of stillness that's considerably more profound. Note: The use of certain props (mat, blanket, pillow, chair) is recommended. --Sam Graham ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very relaxing...
This is a great DVD if you're looking for deep relaxation and some breathwork. Rodney Yee has a soothing voice, is very knowledgeable, and provides good imagery to help you get in touch with your breath. The DVD is broken into 2 segments, one with relaxing yoga poses and one with breathwork, which is nice if you don't have a ton of time to practice or want to work specifically on one or the other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for release and relaxation
Outstanding guded relaxation and breathing for stress release. With a home BP monitor my blood pressure can be reduced from 20 to 40 points after using this DVD. I start at the Relaxation Pose (prone position) and continue on to all of the breathing exercises for a great 40 minutes of relaxation. I know nothing of Yoga and there are no cross legged positions in this, though Rodney Yee does use them, they are not a part of the routines. The person who said there are no sub menus must be referring to the VHS tape (which I have) because the DVD has an excellent series of menus and sub menus and you can start exactly where you want. Have no difficulty with focus as another reviewer does, besides, once you've run through the DVD once for a visual, you have your eyes closed all the time anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional meditation practice
This is a wonderful practice. You have your choice of three different relaxation techniques and three different breathing practices. You can do individually or mix them. I had previously said there were no submenus on this DVD (I was referring to a different Yee DVD). This one is lovely. The menu choices are exceptional! Other people producing DVDs could learn from this example. This is well worth the money and you can use this practice over and over again to gain insight into your own being. Enjoy!

See my other dvd reviews on amazon. thanks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good content, poor quality
I'm not sure if it's just my copy of the DVD, but the video quality is rather poor. Slightly out of focus in general and extremely blurry in many areas. But since I don't really look at the screen as I follow along with my practise, it only really bothered me the first time I watched it all the way through. Content-wise, it's really excellent and I found it very easy to follow with clear explanations at every step. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aerobic and spiritual workout
I have tried about 5 different yoga workout tapes, and these are by far the very best. The biggest benefit of Kest's is that he gives you time to stay in the poses, and paces it like a master. Rodney Yee's tapes are so stupid by comparison; he races through the poses like a science nerd who has no patience for dopey beginners. Kest, on the other hand, is very patient and persistent. His comments are encouraging and reassuring. He is a real human. While I agree with most of the other reviewers who say that it is not for beginners, it is not necessary to be Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, either. I had worked with Susan Deason's tapes, which were great preparatory workouts for this, for about 3 months. After that I felt I needed something more powerful and fat-burning (hate that word). You can stop worrying about weight loss and all that bunk that the consumerist gurus obsess about. Kest's approach has a spiritual side that makes you stay involved in the workout from a personal growth point of view; this guy has a wonderful system. My body is going through miraculous changes already, after 3 weeks; my waist is thinner, my torso is lengthening, my breathing and sense of well-being have improved by about 100%. Bravo, Bryan Kest!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best yoga workout EVER!
I'm serious, folks - I've tried lots of different yoga tapes and Bryan Kest's series is by far the best of them all. I do think you'd need to have at least some working knowledge of yoga poses (ie: you've taken at least one or two yoga classes in the past or done a Rodney Yee tape or two) to begin with tape 1. But even if you don't, Bryan is a wonderful instructor who puts anyone at ease with his calm reassurances that you can do this at your own pace and take breaks when you need to. As he says repeatedly throughout the series - this is your workout, you do what you need to do.

Tape 2 is my favorite and I've already had to replace it once because it got warped from how much I used it. It's a full 50 minutes of make-you-sweat yoga with challenging poses and variations. At no point do you feel like the workout is too easy. Bryan keeps it flowing throughout from one pose to the next. There are a lot of sun salutations, though, so be forewarned.

I still have to try Tape 3. I love tape 2 so much though that I feel comfortable sticking with it. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking to be challenged and taken out of an easy comfort zone with yoga. Kest is truly a master and makes anyone feel like they can do this too.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite power yoga!
This set was the first set of yoga tapes I purchased several years ago, and it is still a favorite, joined by the Power of Hatha Yoga Ultimate Series with Naader Shagagi. I've been doing yoga for some time now and am still even challenged by the first one, so I can interchange all three. The greatest part is that this doesn't feel like the "fad"-type power yoga -- Kest's soothing voice and reminder to only go as far as you can while remaining equanimous keeps the tone down but makes this a powerful, yet smooth-paced workout. Great for both beginners and those more advanced at yoga!

4-0 out of 5 stars Erotic power yoga 90s style
The good point about this tape is the price, that you have 3 practices, and that this is REAL Power Yoga..This stuff hurts..I can almost guarantee if you do these tapes daily you will see results...yesterday the UPS man told me I had nice arms, and I am positive I am now leaner as opposed to that bulky weight lifting nautilus look I had.Ok,Level 1 is for Total Newbies,Level 2 is the HARDEST,and Level 3 although hard is NOT as hard as level 3...My butt is sore everytime I do the tapes....I myself as a former fashion student love the lighting and music, but here is the thing I find made it hard for me to concentrate in the beginning...Bryan Kest is a long haired stud muffin and we see 90s video type shots of his lovely face, him in a leather jacket, and him doing handstands half naked in black tights..Wonderful,but nothing to do with the instruction practice...Also,Mr.Kest is perpetually shirtless during the class, showing off a beautiful body (obviously from yoga) wearing strategically sexy yoga attire, and adjusting a cast of women with 6 pack stomachs and gym god men..I do not think I am being immature for noticing this (I am 39)..but it does give the tape am erotic vibe..Now I have gotten past it,because this is a must have for a collection,at a decent price...I would recommend this tape along with Roddney Yees Power Yoga (make sure you get the 75 minute tape) and also watching Steve Ross on Inhale on The Oxygen channel at 6 am,and in 6 months you WILL see a new body as long as youre also watching your diet and adding cardio .

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!
I used to go to the gym, but after trying Bryan Kest's yoga tapes, the gym just seemed so monotonous. This is one of the best workouts I have ever done. Sweat like crazy, and after only a few times of doing it, I feel more energetic than ever. My muscles are definetely toner too.
Immature people who comment about Bryan's physical appearance or the way he touches his students are so lame! Shouldn't you be focusing on practicing your poses rather than looking at what Bryan's wearing? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner Series
Bryan Kest is a gifted teacher and inspiring man. This series is perfect for the beginning Yogi. Kest provides plenty of explanation at the start of both the Step-by-Step and 20-Minute Beginner series. You enter each workout with an understanding of the movements and in the right frame of mind. Once I had listened to the intro a few times, I just jumped straight into the workout on my DVD player.

I found the Beginner workout challenging and was thankful for Kest's voice guiding me throughout. As I was new to yoga when I bought the DVD, the series helped my body become familiar with basic Vinyasa flow movements. I found the flexibility and strength starting to improve in my arms and legs just after doing the workout a few times.

I highly recommend this tape for the beginner Yogi! It's gotten me hooked on yoga and I've already started doing some of Bryan Kest's other series! I've also noticed how yoga is affecting other parts of my life. I find myself feeling more calm and relaxed after each workout than I have felt in a long time!

3-0 out of 5 stars If you have done any Yoga at all, don't bother.
Bryan is inspiring and he has a lot of good things to say. I just wish he would say it in the first session and then let me practice yoga in the rest of the sessions(four included on this DVD).

I've done Yoga on and off for years and recently got into power yoga. This is waaaaaaaaaaaay to slow and by the time you feel any heat, you are done. If you are a beginer it would be pefect for about 2-3 weeks and then you'll need to move on to something more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga in Nature
The stunning beauty of the red rocks and panoramas of Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona Arizona makes this video one of the most beautiful yoga workouts to date! The blue mats are just striking against the background and that makes this quite visually pleasing.

If you love exercising in the evening, this workout is perfect to promote a general feeling of well-being and relaxation. Suzanne Deason has created a calming escape you can enjoy for 45 minutes.

While I can't say for sure that you will lose weight while using this particular video, I know you can condition your body with Yoga and Pilates.

I like the combination and have many DVDs and videos. So, I recommend this in addition to all the other workouts you own. Variety seems essential in keeping us all motivated!

The theory behind this workout is that yoga can be used for therapeutic applications. Being overweight has a lot to do with an imbalance in your body's physiology and an internal disconnection between the mind and body.

If you think about when you overeat it might be when you are feeling stressed. It is much easier to keep to your healthy nutrition plan when you feel calm and in control. I also have come to believe that when we are stressed, our bodies pack on the pounds.

So, this workout gives a calmness to your being and in this way you help to control the bodies healing process.

There are four workout levels:

Complete Workout - For anyone who has experience in yoga. All you need is a yoga mat.
Slightly Modified (1/4) - To build strength and stamina.
Partially Modified (1/2) - When your flexibility improves.
Fully Modified - If you have tight hips or hamstrings, you can use a strap, bricks
and a blanket.

All the workouts contain a 10 minute "Body and Breath" warm-up section to loosen the muscles and heat the core. The breathing cues are excellent and you will find yourself enjoying the deep cleansing breaths.

This is followed by "Active Yoga Conditioning." A mirror behind you is helpful at first until you learn to moves. Or you can just do some backwards and still see the screen. Many of the poses where chosen with larger bodies in mind. This is great for people who are just starting yoga. You will notice that three of the instructors are definitely more like the "normal size" woman.

It was comforting to me to see women who modified various poses as I often have to. Instead of feeling like I could not do the poses, I felt I was reaching a level that was comfortable for me. You may also find you can do some of the poses from the advanced level and some from the modified. You feel so proud of yourself when you can finally feel comfortable doing most of the advanced poses.

Finally you enter the 14 minute cool down phase called: "Balance and Relaxation."

During the workout you might notice a Personal Instructor Icon. On my DVD control I had to select the "ok" to get this feature to work. There is also a nice way to get to various workout levels. You just press the "angle" button.

Once you watch the complete workout/combination workout, you can then figure out which level you are at. After watching the combined workout, you will more than likely enjoy just working out with one instructor. You have the choice of four instructors.

I find that my yoga and Pilates workout "moments" have become so healing and nurturing. If you wish to make your setting even more comfortable and are familiar with yoga, I would recommend a nice duvet/comforter covered in a soft fabric. Once folded in half, this gives you a nice soft padded space on which you can place your yoga mat, etc. If you need props, there is information in the pamphlet that is included with the DVD.

Think of exercise as your own private mini-vacation and suddenly exercise is something you start to look forward to. You could also walk for 30 minutes before starting these exercises or walk in the morning and do this video at night.

An exercise program for the entire mind/body/spirit connection. The 16-page full-color pamphlet also contains a mini-nutrition guide, tips on healthy eating and a weight management guide.

Develops concentration, patience, body awareness, muscle tone and a sense of emotional calm.

If you are new to Yoga, this might be the best place to start. I can also recommend "Pilates Conditioning for Weight Loss" with Suzanne Deason.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video
Excellent video with 3 sections to the workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should simply be called Yoga conditioning. Soothing.
I'm sure the marketing gurus felt they had to include "for weight loss" in the title. That really doesn't belong. This DVD is more about the smooth, gentleness of yoga. This isn't power yoga. Please read the other reviews regarding the slowness of this DVD. I like its calmness. The music is soothing too. I'm turned off by quick, fat blasting yoga. Fast yoga is like slow aerobics. I like the poses and the length of time they're held. Deeson gives excellent instruction. She's very thorough, even to the point of telling you when to breathe. I don't think that detracts. Her voice is soothing. My only problem with this DVD is that I can't access Deeson's further studio instruction in the modifications. According to the help section of the DVD, it states press the enter button when you see the icon in the corner, which looks like a solid white. On my screen, it's not solid white and when I push enter, nothing happens. Maybe my DVD player is too new or there's a problem with the DVD.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehhhh ok
I wasn't crazy about this video. It is good for beginners, but for someone who has practiced yoga before, it just didn't hit the spot.

It WAS painfully too slow (like another reviewer said) and also even the most advanced yoga person performed modified yoga positions that I felt watered down the yoga quite a bit--I did not get even the stretch that I wanted.

The idea of using different views is nice, but I wouldn't recommend this video to anyone I know.

2-0 out of 5 stars maybe for a couple of pounds, not for the very large
I understand that i may have missed out, but as an absolute beginner, and someone who is very overweight (over 100 pounds, i admit it) I was only able to make it about 15 minutes through the workout. I found that there was little explanation of what was going on, and often, by the time i could see what i was supposed to do, they had already moved on to the next position. also i found that certain body imperfections made it near impossible to do some of the poses correctly, even on the beginner level. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Workout
Normally, I would give Denise a completely glowing review, but this workout was a bit different. Things I greatly enjoyed were the program: 25 minutes of cardio, followed by 10 minutes segements of arms, legs and abs. Also, the DVD version came equipped with a resistance band, which is necessary to participate in the workout. My criticism is that the whole DVD seems either rushed or was a production after-thought. The music is pretty generic and Denise's spoken introduction is part of the workout, you can skip it manually, but it isn't its own chapter. That's kind of annoying. As for the workout itself, it is very good. During the cardio, you jump around and sweat, all the while using the resistance band for simultaneous toning. The moves are simple, yet effective and the band is a wonderful piece of equipment to weave into your own personal home workout routine, it makes your muscles adjust, as weight routines cause muscle memory over time and your muscles grow accustomed and don't work as hard. Her workout group is made up of people who are thin and fit, but don't look super-ripped or sickly, which is nice and semi-realistic, not intimidating like others can be. She recommends a 6 day schedule, but I think that people who have been working out for a while or have some sort of fitness savvy can decide for themselves, though it is nice to have some guidelines for those just starting out or unsure of how to go about things. She jumps right in, so there is no real explanation section. While the moves are not extremely difficult, there are just barely enough reps to get it right, but that is something that will resolve itself over time. And my last bit of criticism is that Denise seems either tired or a bit disinterested in the workout, she didn't seem as into it as her previous videos. However, she does take the time to really explain the mucles being worked and proper form on her fellow workoutmates. I would like to think of this review as overall a positive one, I just think that if I were to read a review, I would like to know of the negative aspects, to make a well-informed decision.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fat-Burning Sensation!
Taking the intensity up a notch was something I really wanted to accomplish after I finished working out to the same workouts that Denise Austin did everyday on Lifetime TV. Her new video, "Power Zone: The Ultimate Metabolism Boosting Workout" has done just that. Using resistance bands during the whole workout, Denise brings the intensity up efficiently and effectively....enough that I was sweating in less than 10 minutes into the workout! During the entire 25 minutes of cardio, you're burning OVER 300 calories! I am serious - with the resistence band, fat gets a powerful punch!
Denise has you do 25 minutes of cardio, then 10 minute segments each for your legs, thighs, buttocks, and abdominals. After working out with Denise for over two years, I have to say that this workout is the best and most effective that I ever used. Although, I do have my disappointments in this one. I noticed that Denise seemed hurried and uninterested in the workout in some points of the video. The moves are quick and fast-paced and if you are doing the workout for the first time, you may feel like you're not able to keep up. Of course, you will get used to the moves in time - after the first workout I got used to it, so it's not something tremendously serious that you need to think over. Denise's workout mates on the video can annoy you enormously if you let them - they seem like they're in a trance during the whole workout and look more like fake supermodels than workout mates (you notice in many exercise videos that workout mates seem more tolerable and real - like mothers who workout or someone from the street who is fit.. but these women on this workout video seem like they have fake personalities).
Other than that, the workout is great - you definitely feel like your muscles were worked hard enough and that you had a real, complete workout.
Recommended fitness levels are at least intermediate. You need to have at least SOME exercise experience - if you are just starting out, I would recommend Denise Austin's Xtralite Exercise videos that are available at Amazon instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Workout!
The people who gave this DVD negative feedback must not be doing the video correctly! I am a Certified Personal Trainer and would recommend this video to anyone who wants to tone up and lose fat. Within 10 workouts, I could feel and see results and I've been working out for years and years! Denise is tremendously motivating and encouraging. The total video is about 55 minutes long, however the way the segments are set up, you can choose to do each section separately. Remember...give it 100% and you will look and feel better! Buy this DVD...it is so worth the money spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Workout DVD
I have been using this DVD for about a week and this is really a good DVD. It is really a good workout for those who hate to go to the gym and it is cheaper.

This well-designed program combines fast-paced yoga moves for fat-burning, hatha yoga poses for strength and flexibility, and stability ball exercises for core conditioning in three segments that can be done in one 60-minute session, or separately. Segment 1 builds patterns based on strong yoga poses such as the Warrior and Balancing Stick, adding lifts and lunges at a fast pace so that you're breathing faster and working the muscles simultaneously. Segment 2 is strength training by holding poses. Segment 3 focuses on core strength with a stability ball. Some familiarity with yoga is helpful--Austin doesn't give much instruction about breathing or the fine points of the poses--but not required. Although Austin talks nonstop, as always, her voice is quieter than usual and more fitting for this workout. (The repetitive, rhythmic music, however, is distracting rather than supportive.) Recommended for intermediate exercisers because no modifications are shown, and many of the poses are challenging. --Joan Price ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, but not yoga!
I'm a big Denise Austin fan, so I was prepared to love this video, but I've got to tell you--I'm pretty disappointed. This was a good workout, but there was very little yoga to do with it. While the postures and moves are based in yoga, it seems a stretch to call the workout itself yoga; there is no emphasis on breath, there is no emphasis on posture or correct form. It is definitely not a beginner workout. It is a good aerobic workout, and yes, all of my muscles feel it today, but if you're looking for a good YOGA workout that will yield the same results, try Crunch's Yoga videos--they're great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Give your muscles a new challenge.......
As an experienced intermediate exerciser, this workout was a little something different. It begins with a faster-paced 30 minute yoga workout that does increase your heart rate a little and challenges your muscles. Sometimes however, the faster pace interupts the usual flow that yoga has, and you kind of stumble into the moves the first few times. For safety I recommend practicing the moves by pausing the vcr throughout the first section the first time using it. Honestly, I do wish Denise held the stretches longer. I can feel the strength and flexibility benefits though, and after the first time, I had a mild soreness the next day to show I'd challenged my muscles, but no lasting pain of any kind. The second workout on the tape is a 15 minute strength and flexibility workout, where poses are challenging and held longer. It challenges the arms as well, which is good, to provide balance since the first workout used mainly the lower body muscles. The tape also includes a workout for abdominals and total body conditioning, which recommends a "stability ball", this portion gives your abdominals and back a good workout. All in all, this video can add something different to your workout routine, once you get used to the rushed pacing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
I absolutely love this DVD. The workout is quick (30 mins or 15 mins segments)and invigorating. I would not recommend this DVD to beginners, however. Many of the moves need to be familiar to have the best effect. I would recommend Denise Austin's Yoga Essentials for someone who wants to learn the basic moves in yoga. Once the basics are learned, following along with this DVD is easy.
I do wish there were alternative exercises for those who do not have the exercise ball in the 15 min ab segments. I skip this part.
Contrary to all the negative comments about Denise's perkiness, I find her helpful and uplifting, and she keeps me on task. The reminders about body positions are necessary.
I will recommend this DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to yoga and tool to get in condition
If you enjoy Dennis Austin, then definately try this video. As a beginner to intermediate level exerciser, I found this video to be challenging and enjoyable. I appreciated Dennis's encouragement and marveled at the simplicity and effectiveness of the movements executed over time. I used this program as the foundation for my routine over a 10 month period and after a while, added other videos for variety, however, I always came back to this as a favorite. Thanks Dennis for helping me achieve my fitness goals beyond what I thought I could do! Now that summer is getting too humid for my outdoor routine, I'm upgrading to a DVD version. Rene King

1-0 out of 5 stars Crikey!
I've never written a review before, but I feel very strongly about this workout video and think everyone should know about it. Why? 'Cause it sucks. I'm not joking. Denise Austin is like a mad woman in this video... she's all over the damned place and her voice is constantly grating. Yap-Yap-Yap... Yoga is supposed to be relaxing, but this woman is like a crazy dyslexic hurricane who's all over the place. I'll probably give it another shot... the workout itself looks cool, but it's just too damned fast. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the usual Rodney Yee..
I had Rodney's original Back Care video and I bought this DVD to use for business travel so I could play it on my laptop in my hotel. It was WAY too slow moving for me. I plan to return it to Amazon. I was very disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good DVD
This DVD has really helped me with my back problems. The excercises shown are gentle and useful. I have chronic back pain, and in order to avoid, and not take pain killers, I do yoga. I have used this DVD, and as soon as I finish one of the three routines, my pain is gone. The only thing that I don't like about Rodney's approach on this DVD is that he shows some very weird excercises, and sometimes you feel like you aren't doing anything. The first routine feels like you didn't do a thing. The second routine is great. The third one has a lot of akward positions, for which you need a chair and a king size pillow. I have never been to a yoga class where you need such items, so I find it weird, and not too effective. However, overall, it is a good DVD (but he has a better DVD, try the Yoga for Athletes, also from Rodney. It is excellent.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Three workouts focused on maintaining a healthy back
Excellent yoga instructor Rodney Yee offers this 3-part workout focused on strengthening back muscles to maintain a healthy back. He utilizes props (blanket, bolster, chair, brick, strap) to make the poses more gentle and accessible to those at all levels of fitness (although absolute beginners should stick to his previous video, Back Care Yoga for Beginners).

The first 16-minute section concentrates on simple stretches to warm up your back muscles. Poses are done either while lying on the floor or in a seated position, and Rodney uses a blanket to increase range of motion. The second workout is a bit longer (around 18 minutes) and places greater emphasis on strength moves. It begins with simple backbends (eg, cat pose) and moves on to standing poses modified by use of a chair; it ends with a series of lying stretches. In the final workout, Rodney uses a wider variety of props, including TWO chairs and both the blanket AND the bolster. This is a slow-moving, approximately 16-minute practice which focuses on relaxation through practicing a small number of poses for a longer period of time.

At times, Rodney's reliance on props is a bit distracting, particularly while you are trying to relax during the final section. However, he always allows ample time to relocate the props inbetween poses, and his use of the props is definitely beneficial at some points, such as during the second practice. Rodney's manner is extremely calm and relaxing, and his voiceover is always perfectly in sync with his on-screen performance. One minor criticism is that he doesn't offer mirrored instruction, but this is easily ignored given his otherwise excellent cuing. Overall, this is a very good workout by a master yoga instructor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original
I was disappointed in this DVD. I also own Rodney Yee's first back care workout "Back Care Yoga for Beginners" (1998, VHS), which is much better. "Yoga for Back Care" relies too heavily on props, moves very slowly, and doesn't cover enough poses. If you're looking for a good back care workout, go back to the original tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gentle and Excellent
I checked here for reviews before buying this. There weren't any, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. And since no one else has posted a review, I finally decided to in case anyone else would like a user's opinion. When I first tried this routine, I didn't think it was going to do much. It is very conservative. But it is also very safe. It avoids some of the front bending and stretching postures that can be dangerous for low back problems. Yoga Journal's routines often go in and out of postures faster than I like, and at first I wasn't sure I liked that aspect of the routine either. Ater doing this routine for about a month, though, I can say that my low back discomfort has eased off greatly. This DVD gets the credit. It is an excellent combination of equalized stretching on both sides of your body, plus relaxation for your upper and low back. The entire workout runs nearly an hour, which I don't always have time for. But it is broken into three segments, so you can do one or two only. Still, make the time for the full routine if you can. It's worth it. You don't need to do it every day. A few times a week has been enough for me to feel the benefit. Finally, the setting is beautiful, the production quality is high, and Rodney Yee is a pleasant presence (important for something you listen to over and over again). I highly recommend the DVD for anyone looking for back-related flexibility, relaxation, and restoration. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Focus on Pilates
While Denise Austin becomes completely absorbed in her routine, you start to feel she has left and gone off to workout planet. Ok, so this is about working out core muscle groups and has a focus on Pilates.

However, this is NOT a relaxing workout. I found Denise talks way too much and is overly interested in giving the viewer compliments when she should be maybe focusing on explanations and then giving the viewer a break to actually enjoy the move. From the minute she starts talking, she doesn't stop. It is like one of my very long reviews. So, I'm also guilty at times.

Still, I just felt overwhelmed with her verbosity. Then, I found her facial expressions and voice to be more attuned to a fast paced aerobic workout (widened eyes are not relaxing for me - they signal flight or fight) and I just could not relax into the moves.

Perhaps she is trying to be more expressive and I was looking for a more withdrawn approach. It is like she is playing for the camera instead of teaching the moves. Some of the exercises were just impossible or very uncomfortable. I really think there are a few moves you will dislike intensely. I skipped them.

Basically, this is an ok workout, but not at all a spiritual experience. If you are serious about Pilates, get the Winsor Pilates workout.

This has Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi moves. It is 45 minutes and requires a very long resistance band. It is for intermediate students who are already in good condition and who enjoy a fast paced routine. Unlike other Pilates exercises, many of these are done while standing, which I felt made them less enjoyable and less efficient.

Not recommended as the first Pilates workout you try. This has some creative moves, but I really did not feel I was getting the workout I wanted.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok for a Pilates tape
I bought this tape thinking that Denise Austin has a good rep and would like to try pilates. I started the tape and the begining was great. Then we got to mat work. Most of the main workout involved a exercise band, which I didn't have. It didn't say anything about a exercise band on the box or I would have been delighted to get. But overall, the workout was VERY hard, for me being a beginner. I would reccomend it for an advanced pilates person WITH a band.

3-0 out of 5 stars for pilates-experienced only
Overall this a good workout, with a caveat: a beginner should start with a different instructor, such as Moira Stott, who gives a much more thorough explanation of what you're doing, why you're doing it, how to avoid strain and injury, and modifications for your particular situation. How can Denise talk so much and say so little? That said, it is a good head-to-toe exercise program. Just turn the volume down and listen to music instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Easy, Fast Results
I had never even seen Pilates before I bought this video, so I really didn't know what to expect....except for Denise Austin. When I was pregnant, she had the only pregnancy video out; I did that every day for my entire pregnancy and always felt terrific. At 6 weeks after birth, with doctor approval, I was ready to lose the weight (20 LBS from size 7 back to 4). I did so in three months with another Denise Austin video, Sizzler. She is fantastic! Unlike other videos, she gives you motiviation, makes you believe YOU CAN DO IT. She looks great and is a great teacher, going slow enough to pick up the routine in about two to three viewings. I have been going to the gym for the last 6 years, faithfully, working out 90 minutes a day for 5 days a week (cardio and weights). I have better results with Denise Austin videos.
This is an easy to follow video, but a great workout. THANKS AGAIN DENISE!
Okay, if you need one critical comment...often she says "okay, last one" or "just two more" and she keeps going while she's talking, giving advice. But after doing the video workout a couple of times, you know she's going to do that and you just keep going.
HIGH RECOMMENDATION!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Pilates Workout Out There!!!!
I read some of the reviews on Amazon before I purchased this, and I thought some were kind of harsh.....turns out they were dead on! I wonder if Denise Austin really knows what she's doing at all! 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Bryan Kest on DVD for some true Power Yoga
I am so happy to finally have a Bryan Kest routine on DVD, and a good one at that! He hasn't lost his touch for creating a routine where I can get my dose of authentic yoga alongside a physical workout. I really like his knowledge about both of these important things in my life: getting my head on straight, and working non-competitively on all the physical benefits of yoga like strength, toned muscles, stamina, etc. Thanks to Bryan for all his expert guidance!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Challenge for Beginners
This DVD is a good investment for a home collection. All of the poses are attainable, nothing too fancy, but the workout is great. It is an especially strong leg workout. I have been doing this DVD for a year now, and have not tired of it. It was my first DVD and has proved a good foundation to get into other types of yoga. I highly recommend it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Totally disappointing
I have been practicing power yoga for two years and I found Brian Kert's dvd totally disappointing. Power yoga isn't a simple physical exercise- and this is the way Brian sees it, or at least this is what his video presents. It's not all about building muscles in every single part of our body; if this is what yoga is then why don't we all work out at our local gym instead. Yoga is all about physical and above all spiritual equininity. In order to get in touch with our inner part and feelings yoga should be practiced in a relaxing place with an instructor who can make his students relax and LET GO, not tense throughout the practice! Brian Kert isn't a professional yogee, he is instead a common trainer for body building and working out with the only difference that he uses some yoga poses instead!!!! So sorry Brian, but if you can't teach yoga stick to the things YOU are good at!

5-0 out of 5 stars TRULY INTENSIVE, TRULY CHALLENGING!
Well I just did this Intensive Body Sculpting program for the first time and it was really tough! Tough in a good way but tough!

After almost 8 years of daily yoga practice, years of classes and with a collection over 70 yoga videos that I rotate day by day, it still amazes me how my body, mind and spirit, are continuously challenged in new ways.

Depending on the sequencing, rate of flow and length of time the asanas are held in a given practice it can feel like the first time one has practiced yoga..

This particular program is a power yoga flow that will challenge you especially in your lower body, particular the legs and hips. Don't worry though, you're whole body will be challenged, but those legs and hips should be REALLY burning. If not, I salute you and want to know what you're eating, supplements your taking and congratulate you on superman/superwoman genetics :).

Of course, to be truly doing yoga and not just exercise, there is much more than the physical practice involved, the mindset is crucially important. Bryan really goes into all this in his introduction. I personally like his introduction and feel it's helpful to listen through it before each practice to prepare you mentally for what is to come (that's just a personal viewpoint of course). All that being said, there is no doubt that if you do this program you'll be doing a VERY physical practice.

Anyway....., This program which is about 50 or so minutes (once the intro is over)is pure Kest. I have his older videos "Energize, Tone and Sweat" and this is definitely up there with those in terms of challenge. Those are EXCELLENT videos by the way and highly recommended.

The primary difference is that on this program you do a really long series on one side (primarily standing poses though not exclusively) before moving on to the next. I have to admit that I had to take breaks and go into child's pose on more than one occasion because I was getting so fatigued on each side before the sequence was over.

I will definitely try to do this program on a regular basis because it definitely brought to light many areas that could stand to be strengthened. Not only that but it is one heck of a practice to use to develop one's in the face of a physical challenge.

If you are looking for a full body workout which will push you to the max I highly recommend this. I don't think I would recommend this as a first video for a brand new beginner because I think that it's too intense, but if you buy Bryan Kests "Original Power Yoga Set" you should in time be able to work up to this one by using the other programs first.

Other good preparatory programs I would recommend are:

Rodney Yee's Power Yoga For Beginner Series (Flexibility, Stamina and Strength-3 tape set) which are challenging but not as long or as tough (though the Strength tape is actually very tough compared to the other two). These are also only about 25 or so minutes long so very easy to fit into one's schedule.

Baron Baptistes "Hot Yoga" three tape set are quite challenging along with his "Soul Of Strength Live", "Core Strength" and "Unlocking Athletic Power". "Power and Precision" is also an excellent program. The "Core" and "Athletic" programs are pretty short, around 25 or so minutes while the others are longer (45-60 minutes).

Sherri Baptiste Freeman n (Baron's sister) has a very different style of yoga that is still quite challenging with her program "Baptiste Power Of Yoga" which I highly recommend.

Rainbeau Mars "Sacred Yoga" set is a 4 tape set that really covers all bases, from a wonderful beginner tape thru to very challenging (but not as hard as the Kest Stuff). These are also reasonably short, around 30-35 minutes or so.

Total Yoga's Flow Series are another set that builds incrementally from it's "Earth" program (the easiest) to "Water" (more intermediate) to Fire (incredibly tough,).

Of course Bryan's earlier set that I mentioned is also fantastic, but even the first one is pretty tough (Energize) so you may want to check out one of the others to work up to it.

Namaste

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Workout!
This routine is awesome! In under an hour, it worked my upper body, quads, and abs. It is a yoga routine and exercise video at its finest. You don't have to be an expert yogi to do the moves but the moves are challenging enough and the workout smooth enough for people at all levels to get something out of it.

Bryan Kest does talk for about 5 minutes in the beginning before he begins the routine but his words help you transition from whatever you were doing before into a mindset for yoga. Whether you're standing, like in the video, or in child's pose at the beginning of your yoga session, it is always important to calm and clear your mind before starting your practice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Effective Total Body Workout
SUPER FUN CARDIO FAT BURNER! I just don't understand the hostile reviews to this video. It's tough-going if you are not as advanced in aerobics as weights. Yet the moves are easy to follow and executed in three progressively harder levels, so who cares that she cues on the move rather than four counts before. Bottom line is that this workout is effective and it covers almost everything.
