4-0 out of 5 stars Two of the men who made the Marvel Age of Comics....
I am a bit sentimental when it comes to the great artists and writers of the Silver Age. It's great that a few films do exist where you see them working on the craft that they enjoyed all their lives. Stan and John were great friends and they enjoyed working together, and as long as this film continues to exist, we can see them working and talking with each other and see how any and every idea for a story that they had, they put on paper.

Buy it for that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Simply a look at the science of their art.
Sure, John Buscema and Stan Lee would be the obvious choices for a comic book team, but this DVD does not do them justice. When you pop it in, you feel ready to create a masterpiece, with pencil, paper, and of course, an eraser. A big one. This movie is simply OK. It is great to see them in action, but it simply states the measures, how many heads tall characters should be, etc. In the end, it feels like this was designed to teach people with degrees in both computer sciences, and art. There is no way a blossoming artist could even compare to these guys.

On a final note, this book/movie is for the pros, but is fun to watch also.

4-0 out of 5 stars Smilin' Stan and Big John Comin' at ya!
This was a fun tape for me, because I grew up reading these guy's comic books, and I bought the book version of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way years ago. I mainly got the video so I could hear artist Buscema's voice (which is great; he sounds like a character from the Sopranos scolding you for not drawing right). But all they do is read the book word for word from a teleprompter while John pretends to draw over some photocopied enlargements from it's pages! He's literally making these theatrical "drawing" motions without touching the pencil to the paper, while writer Stan Lee pontificates in his endearingly overblown and gratingly nasal Brooklynese. It's great. The original book was just Buscema's comic book drawing course, to which Stan wrote some psuedo-hip "Marvel" patter as a way of marketing it to a wider audience, and this is undoudtedly another scheme to cash in a little more, which must have taken the old partners part of a whole day to do. In fairness, they do some things in video that are pretty good, like superimpose the rough drawing over the finished one to illustrate how it develops. These two are real American characters, and if you liked the book, and you read comics in the '60s, you'll probably get a kick out of this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better then Mutants, Monsters, and Marvels DVD.....
I actually like this film. It showed Stan and John doing what they did best, the writing and drawing of comics. It's also something of a lost art form because then, the writers and artists at Marvel worked hard to get the books out on time. The rat pack kids who work there now do not bother. They do not know the meaning of "hard work."

2-0 out of 5 stars Stan and John Create Surface Tension
When this d.v.d. first caught my eye, expectations were high and the price was low. However, when I finished viewing, the price was too much. Stan Lee and John Buscema are two of the greatest comic book creators that have ever lived, but this d.v.d. just isn't good enough to meet their standards. It offers much in the way of comic book jargon, but displays each element of the business very poorly. The main focus of this 'visual' video is a verbal instruction. There is a very limited amount of important hands-on drawing, barely even enough to teach a learning artist anything. I think that "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" could have been done a lot better and should offer a great deal more. Unless you are an avid comic book fan, I do not recommend purchasing this d.v.d. And, even if you are, I would give it some serious thought. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good info, bad editing
The information presented on this video was really good and I will have to watch it over and over just to get it all. There were many helpful tips that could only be learned by experience which David shares with you.The quality of the video is not so good.It is shot with a low quality camera (I am guessing a consumer grade video camera). The audio is worse. The audio at times is so full of distortion at times it is hard to understand. There is also keynote text on the screen when major points are given.I would have not had them up as long.I found at times I could have read the text 4 times over and I just wanted to see what he was doing rather than reading.

If you can get by the bad sound a not so good final editing and just learn from this.It is a very good teaching tool.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little good, a little bad
First, the bad: my copy of this DVD had some technical problems; the audio was fuzzy, although understandable with some concentration on my part; there was considerable pixellation (picture breakup) in the segment on casting the young girl in a leotard, to the point of being unwatchable; the segment on casting from a silicone torso mentioned in the description was not on the DVD; there was nothing about actually making a casting from the molds created - the DVD would be better titled as Molding the Female Torso. Now, the good: the technique demonstrated for molding from a nude model was clearly presented; I was able to make my first fully successfull mold by following the instructions. The segment on creating a patinaed surface was also worthwhile. I probably should have returned this DVD in hope of getting a better quality replacement. Overall, I would recommend this DVD for its educational content, but be aware of the aforementioned problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I can Exotic Dance!!! :-)
Great video!!! I was surprised by the whole concept. Not only does it teach you some great sexy moves, but it helps you learn to feel more self confident about yourself. In the video, there are these "real" women that share their experiences and tips how to do certain moves. I think the video is very different, very new and teaches us "regular" women that we can be sexy, for ourselves and then for our mates. My video was not 23 minutes long, it was a whole hour and is really amazing!! It is very tastefully done. There is no nudity and there is a ton of stuff to learn besides just the dancing part...I love it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
I was really uncertain about buying this video , when I read some of the reviews. I couldn't imagine how it could get one or two stars and then have other people wishing they could give it more than five. So, I decided to give it a try.
I loved it. Plain and simple. If you read the description, you know it's not an aerobic workout. I wasn't looking for one. I was looking for something for me. This was it. It went slowly enough for me to master the basic moves. I felt as though I knew the women in the video and they were brave enough to share their stories. They weren't some paid actresses or something spouting off lines. These women were like me, that was so reassuring.
If you are (...)confident and have a great body, no this isn't for you.
If you are like me, a woman who feels a bit insecure about my body after kids, less than sexy (...) and wanting to heat up the bedroom scene after 13 years of marriage, this video is definitely for you!! You don't have to be thin, fit and beautiful...actually, it taught me that I am beautiful, just the way I am.
Thank you, for an amazing awakening in my life! And my husband thanks you too!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth it
I wouldn't recommend this video. Stripping is turning out to be a lame fad, and it isn't exactly 'empowering'. I would recommend the Kama Sutra or Sensual Yoga.

1-0 out of 5 stars dissatisfied
I would expecting something new and different. Everyone could use a little spice and sensualness in their life. What I got was moving your hips around in a circle... and that's all. Don't waste your money, folks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sexy Workout
After trying belly dancing, I thought I'd take it to the next level and see if I could learn to let out the inner goddess in other interesting ways. I use a variety of exercise tapes and this one is perhaps the most exotic. What I was really looking for was a good workout with creative dancing.

This is not a video you will watch each time you want to "dance exotically." This is a video to teach you the basic moves.

I learned about 5 new moves that I was willing to add to my workout routine. Sometimes I just play music and make up my own moves. Sort of a dance routine that is flexible. It is more for my own relaxation and exercise. So, for that reason, I felt this was worth purchasing. I can tell you, I worked out muscles that none of my other workouts have touched.

I didn't really realize how much I was exercising because this video covers a lot of ground. You learn to walk, do hip rolls and then move to the floor to do various moves on your back. I loved the idea of pretending you were in a field of flowers. In many ways, this workout is also about letting out the inner joyful child who dances in fields of flowers.

The only problem with watching this video is that is it so fun to learn these exotic moves, you want to keep doing them all day long. LOL Look, I was never allowed to dance as a child. This is all new to me. For people who have been dancing all their lives, this might seem rather basic.

I would not suggest that you try this workout one day and expect to dance for your intimate partner the next day. You will be way too sore. Even if you have been using workout videos for years. Take your time. Watch this video a few times and then suddenly, weeks later, surprise your partner with a totally sexy new you.

The main benefits of this video:

You will release your inner goddess and let her out to play
You will achieve a new level of self confidence
You will spice up your relationship and amaze your partner

This workout also shows you how to maintain eye contact, let your guard down, try out new and exciting moves and use body language to increase your sensuality.

There is no nudity in this video. The women are all wearing workout clothes. They do use shirts to show a strip routine, but it is pretty calm. This is not really what you would see in a strip club (not that I've ever been to one, I just have seen women dancing in movies, and this is not quite at that level). This is more a series of sexy moves that you can incorporate into your own dance routines.

This really is a workout for everyday women. Many of the women in this video are just like you and I and they are not the type of women you would see dancing. So, that made me feel comfortable and even more confident.

So, give this a try. The worst that can happen is that you can hardly walk the next day because you have worked out your entire body. I had no idea this was such a great form of exercise. Look, I can't handle "fancy footwork" and I could actually do this video!

I agree with some of the other reviewers who said they would like to find a "solo" instructional video. This teaches you the moves, but it would be fun to find a video that was more of a workout routine. One you could use to workout to for an hour.

"The Art of Exotic Dancing For Everyday Women" is sexy, not slutty. That is an achievement in itself. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Never Mine
It may motivate you to learn more about Feng Shui but it will not teach you anything. It's like a long TV info-mercial. Try borrowing it from your local library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money and time
This tape is not as great as it may seem. I saw this tape on PBS last year and thought it would be a good tape with a lot of helpful information...WAS I WRONG!!!!!! this tape runs about 60 mins and for the first half of the tape it is filled with testimoies of how feng shui has helped them. If I am not a beleiver, I would not have purchase the tape in the first place!this tape spends to much time trying to convince you that feng shui is real. I was hoping the tape would provide me with more useful information. for those who saw this on PBS, you already saw the entire tape! There is nothing new on it. This tape is a huge disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this on TV and wanted a copy of the video ...
I saw this video as a program on PBS-TV (Public Broadcasting Service) and liked the practical, easy-to-understand suggestions. Especially convincing were testimonials by ordinary people who describe how Feng Shui principles of organizing their homes and offices made a difference in their well-being, health, and business success.

Included with the video is a bagua, an 8-sided drawing that is demonstrated in the film and used for locating areas in a house or room where aspects of one's life (career, marriage, children, self-knowledge, etc.) are being impacted by "chi" (subtle energy). Also included is a list of Feng Shui remedies that were explained in the video (mirrors, wind chimes, plants, etc.)

Useful, practical advice from two recognized experts of the Black Tantric Sect of Feng Shui, Deborah Gee and Lin Yun -- very well done!

4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy into the Philosophy.
However, the presentation is understandable and you will know more about Feng Shui. I didn't need to be convinced of the practicality of Feng Shui or to know about Lin Yun's experience, I needed to see more examples of how the Ba Gua fits different homes and landscapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Started a Passion
I saw parts of this video on Boston's PBS station. I found the video in the library, and after watching it, I bundled my son off to buy mirrors, crystal balls, windchimes, and plants.

A few months ago, I rearranged the furniture in my livingroom to make it appear more spacious. Prior to the rearranging, I never spent any more time in the livingroom than was absolutely necessary. Since then, you can't get me out of there.

There are dark corners and sharp bends in my house that have grated on me whenever I came near. My instincts told me to buy mirrors and lights to reduce these irritations. After viewing this film, I thought, "I'm not waiting a moment more."

One other thing - the type of Feng Shui that is presented is based on the entrance to a room, not its actual geographical orientation. Not only does that eliminate the need for compasses (well discussed in the video), it makes for a quick and easy understanding of Feng Shui.

I am convinced that Feng Shui will work. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat basic
I must admit that I had expected more from this DVD. It's not a bad DVD - everything is quite professionally and neatly done - but the material presented is probably not very useful if you are an amateur photographer, i.e. not a total novice.

If you are about to buy your first digital camera, or if you've just bought yourself one, this DVD will definitely fill in some blanks, but if you're expecting very in-depth technical information about digital cameras and digital photography - the stuff you won't find in the manual - then you will likely be a tad disappointed. This is not the learning tool that will take you a significant step closer to being a hard-core professional photographer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Photography Captured Volume 1
This is an excellent dvd that helped me learn much more about considerations and improving results. I have had a digital cam for 4 years and thought I was pretty good, but this is much more complete than others I've seen. I am glad I made the investment, my pics improved immediately. Good job guys, looking forward to Volume 2

4-0 out of 5 stars Got me over the hump
I've always been interested in taking photographs. The part I hate is all the technical details and having to read the manuals. There has always been this barrier to understanding how to REALLY use my camera (a Nikon 880) well. It's loaded with features I knew nothing about. I've never taken a class and didn't know an f-stop from an aperture. This DVD certainly helps clear things up a bit and I think my photos are getting better. Can't wait for the next volume!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful DVD
I've been shooting digital photography for a few years and on the advice of a friend I bought this DVD for my wife who was interested in getting in digital photgraphy. It brought her up to speed on the bascis of how the cameras work and how to use them very quickly, plus I've found a couple of tips to be very helpful in my photography. I would recomend this DVD to anybody getting into digital photography or who has been shooting for a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Camera? (Yes or No) DVD player? (Yes) Curious?
Whether or not you own a digital camera, this DVD will put you on the right track to getting the most out of this amazing technology.

I've owned a 35mm Canon (actually two) since I was 16. Yikes, that's 20 years now. When the lens on my EOS Rebel broke last summer I bought a Nikon 995 instead. I can honestly say I've shot more photos since the Nikon purchase than in the prior 19 years.

I spent hours if not days deciding which camera was right for me; and weeks figuring out how to get the most out of it from the manual, books and websites. I wish this DVD was available last summer because it's all here. And the quick tips section has already improved my 'eye'. In fact, if the producer is reading this... how 'bout a DVD of just tips... please.

The quality is great. The information relevant, and way more 'readable' than most books. As a volume 1, I'd recommend this to anyone who's new to the digital side of photography, and curious about what makes it different (and in my opinion better). Then again, the tips on composition alone were worth the 30 bucks. Bring on volume 2. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
I couldn't disagree more with what the previous reviewer wrote. In fact, I take great offense to his insults and out right rude tone and vulgar language in his review.I purchased this title from the original web site over 5 years ago and have literally made and saved thousands of dollars using this technique.I have leant this video to friends who have only ever praised the contents. The painter in the show is just that, a painter. Not an actor. That's what I personally love about the video. He is real. The fact that amazon.com chooses to call him the 'Actor' doesn't and shouldn't offend anybody.

It was only by chance that I happened on to this page and was pleasantly surprised to find this title is still available. When I read that negative review I couldn't help but think that this guy must have some type of alternative motive for wanting to completely trash this DVD.Maybe he actually has another competing title that he would rather have people purchase.I don't know.

What I do know is that my vhs copy of this lesson has been played dozens of times by friends and family alike. It is for beginners and pros.It does convey plenty of information in a logical and clear manner. It's not a Hollywood Blockbuster production... IT IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO that costs $20 bucks for goodness sake.I have purchased virtually every single video that professes to explain anything about faux painting, some costing 5 times as much, and I can say with all honesty, this is by far one of the best that I have in my collection. If I hadn't mastered the technique already, I would gladly purchase the DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars I was a no painting rookie - Now I am a faux,sponge Expert!
