This Is So Cool--Facts can be Fun!!
And it's even educational! I was so pumped (now that I have a DVD player) to hear that they were releasing a big-time anniversary edition of Schoolhouse Rock in its entirety. I've had four of the videos for years, but this set is so much better. Disc One has all of the original songs--you can play them in order, randomly, just the top ten--and an all-new song about the Electoral College (inspired, no doubt, by the 2000 presidential election). The way you can navigate your way through any and/or all of the songs is very easy and great for when you don't just want to hear about grammar (or history, math, etc. . .).

What really puts this over the top, though, is Disc Two, with a bucket load of extras: the lost "Weather Show," a new computer three-song set, a making-of feaure, top 20 countdowns, an interactive trivia game, music videos by contemporary artists, audio commentaries, Emmy Award footage, etc. . . . I can't wait to explore even more than I got to last night! This will be such a great tool for my 21-month-old daughter (who will know how a bill becomes a law and how to use a conjunction in a sentence!) and a ton of fun for me in the process.

The video quality isn't MONSTERS, INC., but it doesn't have to be. The old animation holds up just fine, as does the audio, which audiophiles could probably complain about if they want to poop the party for the rest of us. What really stands up to the test of time, aside from the basic content, is the music. These guys (primarily) did some really good arranging, little of it in the rock 'n roll genre, ironically. Jack Sheldon delivers some spectacular jazz vocals on several of the more famous tunes. Complicated yet catchy melodies are the strength--that's why we all remember "I'm Just a Bill" and "Conjunction Junction"--with great backing vocals and instrumentation to boot. The contemporary artists' renditions didn't hold up to the originals, but they were pretty interesting to hear. The interactive stuff will be great for kids hearing these songs for the first time. The interviews and commentaries are really interesting, especially in hindsight. Great new additions, discoveries, and formats all add to the charm of the original forty-six songs. How they managed to get all of that factual information into essentially a music video, while keeping the kids (and me) entertained, is still a mystery to me.

Bottom Line: You'll be hard-pressed to find a better combination of education and entertainment. If there are any factual inaccuracies, they are minor enough to overlook and could actually spark interesting conversations. The basic content is right on-the-money. The fact that they'll actually be talking about and be interested in the grammar, history, science, and economics is important enough to overlook any minor flaws.
The fact that my daughter, who two years (and a couple of months) old, actually knows that "Wow!" is an interjection, a fact that most of my juniors (I'm a teacher) wouldn't know off the top of their heads, speaks volumes. . . !

Schoolhouse Rock totally rocks!
I'd been waiting to see if I'd get this for my birthday, but I couldn't wait anymore. I bought it today and had to pop it in. These great animated shorts helped kids learn multiplication, science, grammar, american history and money. You want an explanation of our national debt? - watch Tyrannosaurus Debt :-).

The first DVD has all the original shorts categorized by groups, you can play them by group, or play them all in order or play them all or shuffle. If you choose a particular group, you can pick the ones you want to play in the playlist or select the Play All button. I was having a blast seeing remembering how many of these I could still sing.

The 2nd DVD is the Extra Credit portion of the set. You can watch with Captions or Audio Commentary. I really had fun with the "Earn Your Diploma" Trivia and the Arrange A Schoolhouse Rock song. The Earn Your Diploma gives you a set of questions to answer to each group (Science, Money, etc). When you get them all right, you get a clue which when you solve all the groups you can then solve the Master Jumble to become a Schoolhouse Rock Graduate. The Arrange A Schoolhouse Rock Song has 3 of the Schoolhouse rock songs mixed up and its up to you to get the lyrics in order. When you get them right, the song clip will play. The music videos section was funny - the first 3 had the original animated shorts but the music/voices were redone by Better Than Ezra ("Conjunction Junction"), Lemonheads("My Hero Zero") and Deluxe Folk Implosion("I'm Just A Bill"). I didn't care for the last one by Goodness ("Electricity, Electricity"). That was just a music video but that one doesn't take away from the rest of the DVD.

I saw one review here getting a little too deep in reviewing the american group. I say, don't worry about it - these were meant to help kids learn and I can say they definitely did me good. This collection was well done and it's worth the price :-)

School House Rock
I learned more from this as a kid than in school. To expensive on Amazon, I got it cheaper at my local Vons grocery store.

Wow! Hurray! Hey! Hallelujah!
Yes, I'm using all the Interjections from SchoolHouse Rock to sing it's praises. I grew up with Schoolhouse Rock, but to be honest I thought about it only when my husband and I laughed nostalgicly about memorable songs like Conjunction Junction. Then, he bought the 30th anniversary edition for our daughter (he was trying to qualify for free shipping when he was buying the Tripletts of BelleVille!). So, it can be said that neither of us anticipated how fantastic this DVD would be -- STILL! My 3 year old LOVES it, and I can't say enough great things about the creative lyrics that teach grammar, numbers and how the body works (maybe I should reach into my bag of adjectives, which my daughter charmlingly calls "magictives"). It is the one DVD we own that I don't feel any apprehension about evil or scary characters, dark plots or questionable character influences (which are startling present in many videos for preschoolers).

If you're wondering about getting this video, wonder no more. It is a timeless winner that won't disappoint (unless you're looking for dark plots and questionable character influences!)

Disappointed
I ordered this video because we are living overseas and couldn't find a live class in English. I'm giving it 2 stars because it's better than nothing, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. The production quality is quite low - the volume fluctuates and there are are very few visuals. It's just a film of the instructor talking to about five couples on a bare stage. Both my husband and I found the instructor annoying, especially her whiny impressions of women in labor. Putting together a DVD class is a great idea but could have been done much better, especially considering the price.

good basic info
This dvd provides good basic information if you cannot attend childbirth classes from a hospital. But the instructor is annoying, and the person with the camera is too. It was worth the annoyances for me, though... cheaper and far more flexible than the hospital classes.

BEST TRAINING AID OUT THERE!
I've had this DVD now for just a few days and my dogs can already sit, stay, go potty, down etc. Best training aid I've tried yet. Only problem is getting a lowfat treat, I don't want my dogs getting fat. I also suggest you train your dogs seperated from each other, and use a variety of treats. I use everything from cat food pieces to hot dog chunks. My dogs love me! They can hardly contain themselves, They are so happy! I even trained my cat to come and sit using the same methods. Get this DVD you won't regret it.

Absolutely Positively WORKS - and it's soooooooo easy!!!
WOW! HAS THIS TRAINING WORKED!!!!!!!!

Our Border Collie pup is now 15 weeks. I've been using the techniques from this DVD for 2 weeks now, and had IMMEDIATE results.

I'm using a clicker in conjunction with training treats, which has been an unbelievable success. We've even SURPASSED the skills on the video, and have come up with new ones of our own, using the same techniques, with no difficulty.

One tip: because you use SO many treats for "payment/reward", I decided to go to a well stocked pet store and look for a soft, small size kibble food to use for treats. I found one that is low cal/light - as I don't want to get off on the wrong foot and accidentally pile the pounds on a growing puppy (very hard on joints/growth plates to have an overfed pup).

There is no time wasted in this training dvd with small talk or lectures... they get right to the point in a clear, precise, no non-sense manner.

These gals have a very gentle technique: soft voices, smiling faces, all of which they present in a calm/peaceful atmosphere. Clearly, they have a genuine affection and respect for dogs - and that translates into training US to be the same (more compassionate and patient dog owners).

This program is extremely suitable for young children to use as well. I highly recommend it.

Love it - its nearly on repeat
Get this! I have watched it on repeat over and over and its useful as soon as you get the puppy (crate training, toys) to later on for basic training such as sit, heel. Don't get the Puppy Smarts video - its so simple and costly in comparison. Doggy Cuts was fun too, but its not easy to use in DVD format. But it really beats reading a book when you are staring at your pup to see another pup getting trained.

Try this before spending a lot of money with a trainer
Read the other reviews and decided to get this DVD, and were very pleased with it. In fact, it was better than we had thought an instructional DVD could be on this subject. It is professionally done, and easy to navigate. Really appreciated that they used a wide range of dog breeds, as well as different ages and temperments. Saw immediate, positive results. Plus it was fun to watch casually, and then apply their advice as the circumstances permitted. Our young daughter would get so enthused from the video, that she would immediately want to try out tips right away. Yes, there are certainly times when a trainer/behaviourist is valuable, but why spend good money on one of them for many basic and mid-level training methods that you can get from this video? Then, if a trainer does work with you and your dog, you are not wasting time and money on simple training tasks. Also, it may help you assess what sort of trainer might be best for your dog, if you subsequently decide you need some extra help from one.

Amazing results, even on my strong willed dog
This DVD has been amazing for me and my dog ginger. Ginger is a Jindo mix, a hunting breed that is known for being strong willed and difficult to train. I've bought a few books and where they have failed, this DVD has succeeded. She has gone from pulling on her leash and having very selective hearing to understanding how to walk on leash, heel, sit and we're working on other commands.

The DVD is clear and shows you exactly how to do things with real dogs, unlike books that spend half a page telling you just how to hold a leash and end up just confusing. ... Read more

Baby Mozart has saved my sanity
I had picked up various Baby Einstein tapes while pregnant but didn't expect to use them until my son was closer to a year old. I also never intended to encourage TV watching. At around 5 months, however, and before his eyes even seemed to focus on the TV, I popped in the Baby Mozart tape in a moment of extreme fussiness and frustration. He was immediately mesmorized. He is 8 months old now and will not sit still for any TV show or video EXCEPT for Baby Mozart. He stops crying, whining, or whatever else he is doing and stares in awe throughout the entire video. He even gets mad if you walk in front of the screen while it's playing! There are times I rewind it and play it again and again until I get the dishes done and order restored. My son is captivated (and hopefully learning something) and the music is delightful enough not to have (yet) grated on my nerves. I highly recommend this video to any parent. Of the other tapes: Baby Beethoven is also a good choice for infants, but has an irritatingly long introduction that loses Baby's interest before the action begins. Baby Doolittle seems like the tape my son will love next.

Gladly recommended with only one caution "just in case."
My grandson was 6 months old when started watching Baby Mozart. He was fascinated from the start. I was glad I held him in my arms to move to the music and share the video with him, though, because the lizard hand-puppet that appears at one point and sticks his red tongue out in fun, and the barking dog puppet scared him. They startled him and he cried every time they appeared and made their abrupt gesture and/or noise, but, because I was holding him, he was quickly soothed. Subsequently, when I knew they were coming, I made a point of saying hi! and waving hi! to them and petting them after they made their sounds and we could get closer to the screen, so he got over that just fine. He is totally absorbed by the video, and the one time he watched it from his play seat rather than my arms, I found him craning his neck and leaning way over completely drawn in. I can't help but wonder a bit, however, why this couldn't have been done with the original musical instruments as opposed to the "baby-friendly" instruments employed here.

A must have for colicky babies!!!
I recently purchased the Baby Mozart video for my daughter who is 2.5 months old and has an extreme case of colic. NOTHING would calm her down - I mean nothing. However, she just LOVES this video. I put it in while she is in the middle of one of her screaming fits and within 3 minutes she is glued to the screen smiling and cooing. I don't know what it is but she truly adores this video. The only thing is I wish it was a little bit longer - it only runs about 30 minutes and that is barely enough time to do anything around the house. I would highly recommend this video to any parent who has tried it all with no success for a colicky baby. It just might save your sanity like it did for me!!!

Wondering what's next?
The series is very interesting and I'm wondering if more kids videos are on the way. My children are 6 and 3 and like watching these and other videos again and again.

It amzes me that this video gets so many rave reviews
I give three stars only because it does come in handy if you need to occupy your infant for thirty minutes, and the video is at least age appropriate for infants...I would much rather have a one year old watch this than a faster paced cartoon. We received this video, Baby Einstein and Baby Bach as a gift and I was not impressed with any of them, although, as I said, they did once in a while come in handy. I do highly recommend some of the newer BE series videos...we got Baby Van Gogh and Baby Doolittle Neighborhood Animals when my daughter was a baby and they are so much better because they use puppets and have a theme and some structure. I never understood the "video board book" concpet of watching the video as an activity with your child...I much preferred looking at picture books when my children were infants. ... Read more

No more dreading temper tantrums
Dear Amazon,
I posted a review 2 days ago then realized that I made a mistake.

It should read:

After having so much success with the Happiest Baby on the Block calming techniques, I could not wait to watch The Happiest Toddler on the Block by Harvey Karp,M.D.

My 22 month old grandson began to scream when I told him it was time to go inside. I spoke "toddlerese" with much expression as suggested by Dr. Karp.
I said, " No No No" you do not want to go inside.
He looked at me very surprised.
I said, "No No No" you do not want to go inside.
He looked at me again with his mouth wide open.
I said again, "No No No you do not want to go inside, but we must take sister to potty."

Very Good, but buy the book too!
The DVD is a great compliment to the book. It's so helpful to see Dr. Karp's techniques in action. However, if you haven't read the book, I think the DVD may leave you with many questions because it doesn't go into nearly as much detail as the book does. So my advice is to buy the book too!

The best DVD of the decade.
The more you watch it the more sense it makes. We have three boys ages 3, 3, and 6. As you begin to put the techniques into practice you observe the change in your child almost right away. At first it feels odd but with practice all these techniques become second nature. The gossiping works like a charm on kids almost any age. The todler-eze helps toddlers as well as older kids to come out of the impasse and save face. Feeding the meter and other delightful and simple methods all contribute to the child's well being and makes the parent/ child relationship richer and a stronger bond, for life.

The fast food repeating technique was especially helpful. My son responded to it immediately, it's not a cure all but very helpful. Also enjoyable to watch, not boring at all which sometime these things can be.

Fabulous Parenting Advice
This DVD is not only informative, it's entertaining as well. The message (using "toddlerese" to connect with your child) was consistently relayed, cohesive and universally appealing. We watched real parents dealing with VERY real kids in the kinds of situations we all experience (fighting over toys, going to bed, etc etc). Frankly, I think this DVD should be packaged with Dr. Karp's book "Happiest Toddler on the Block," as it's imperative to watch and know exactly how to use the method (and to do it without feeling as if you're "teasing" or speaking down to your child). The Best Sign Language Tool Available!
I got a LOT of Sign language videos and books our of the library before I bought these. I just could not learn signs from a book. I needed to see it. I like these dvd's the best because they're fun and use music to help teach some of the signs. My son likes these because of all the kids signing. Even my husband likes them and has learned these signs. This is the DVD we started with and these were the first signs he used. We got these at 9 months and 13 months he started signing MORE, MILK, BIRD, DOG, AIRPLANE all in a one week period. We can't say enough good things about Signing Time! and we are eagerly awaiting volumes 4,5, and 6. I just wish we got these when he was born. I won't wait to start signing with my next child.

best video to learn signing with your kids
The Signing Time series is wonderful because it's fun and full of smiles and facial gestures that are totally lacking in other videos. Anyone who has seen sign in action knows that sign language has lots of facial gestures to help communicate what is being signed. This series not only has cute animation but the two children are delightful and so happy. The mother who signs is wonderful to watch and hear. The kids in our playgroup (we all have hearing children) really enjoy watching the videos and learn SO QUICKLY (especially if they are over 12 mos. old). I would and DO recommend this as your first video to learn sign language, children OR adults.
The only criticism I have with the video (and others) is why do they have to teach the sign for "cookie" to children!?! I can't tell you how quickly my son picked THAT one up, much to my chagrin. ;)

I love this video
My 2 and 1/2 year old son has a speech delay. These video's saved us. He would grunt for everything. Now, if he wants a cookie, he uses that sign. I couldn't believe it worked. I thought there was no way, but it did. He is learning to talk but for the words he can't say, this video is the best! Plus I have learned sign language myself along with my other two children. They can understand my son and help him to remember signs. It is worth every penny! By the 3rd time he watched one of the video's he started to sign to me.

THE BEST SIGNING VIDEOS OUT THERE!
I purchased all three Signing Time videos when my son was 6 months old. He is almost two now and still loves the videos! He knows and practices ALL the signs from Signing Time 1,2 and 3! He signs while speaking, which is very helpful when new verbal words are spoken! Don't pass these videos up! You won't be dissapointed if you are serious about teaching your child to sign!

Great for kids AND parents
We decided to start signing with our infant son in order to help him learn langauge and to communicate with him on some level. We were surprised how much Signing Time helped him get into signing. The video is fun to watch and seeing other children do their versions of the signs seemed to help our son. Seeing the very young signers also helps us recognize his version of a sign, since some signs are a little beyond infant motor skills. my 20 month old is benefiting from this
My 20 month old son is speech delayed and we have had this DVD for about a month now. He really loves it. He has learned some of the signs already and I think this can only help him. I always watch it with him and we work on this together. I do recommend this for other moms. I think it would even be great for younger babies who don't even have speech delays.

Excited about my daughter's response to this DVD
My daughter is 2.5 years old, has autism, and has just begun to talk. She responded with great enthusiasm to this DVD, vocalizing the entire time she watched it. And whereas she has never been able/willing to imitate facial expressions in person, she tries to imitate the faces in this DVD, which may help her with her oral motor difficulties. And she picked up the sign language much quicker from the DVD than she does in person. It's hard to tell whether this will actually help with her speech development, since she is already developing rapidly at this time, but it's worth the price just for the entertainment value!!! She's watched it once each day for four days now, and still loves it.

Wow! This DVD really works!
I purchased this DVD a week ago after being told that my son was showing signs of having a developemental delay. My son will run to the TV when I put this DVD in and he will sit or dance while watching it. He has added to his vocabulary almost 100% and is able to use the sign language that is shown in this DVD. I am amazed and thrilled at the results. I would recommend this DVD for anyone who is looking for help in regards to late talking little ones.

I was concerned with my child's speech at 14 mos. She was only using a couple of words and was not babbling very much. This video was recommended on the Baby Center online language and learning concerns bulletin board so I thought I would give it a try. My daughter responded to the video the first time I put it in! My Daughter's New Favorite Baby Einstein Video
I love ALL the Baby Einstein videos. They have given me time to do things around my home while my daughter is entertained. I've also enjoyed watching with her. The older she gets the more certain scenes will delight her. This is our new favorite. It immediately catches her attention by showing stuffed animals at the beach, before the opening credits. It continues on in various water play and delights her when a game of peekaboo is played.....her favorite game to play with us. It is brighter and more entertaining than the rest. The series improves with each video. I'm only sorry I didn't get the DVD. The repeat play feature is a godsend. I have numerous videos from this series and her running fave was Van Gogh until we got this one. I'm definitely glad since I was tired of that one already. My daughter is 5 months old now. The age recommendations have never mattered since she enjoys even the ones labeled for 1 year olds. I would definitely recommend this one for mothers. If you've never tried any of these videos, Baby Mozart is a good starter. This one is a close second.

A great addition to my Babies world.
... From my little 14 month old girls perspective, this is one of the best Baby Einsteins yet. She stays totally enthralled with it from top to bottom. There are no scary scenes but I guess everyone is entitle to vent. >We got Neptune as a gift last weekend and were thrilled at some of the fresh changes. Frankly we were getting sick of the same old stuff, and felt Julie was pretty much over it. After all, her kids must be like 22 by now. Neptune was clearly put together with thought and love for kids. I expected to see dancing Goofy's or something, but there is none of the common Disney stuff here. It's got great scenes underwater, close up views of creatures most people might never see, and the puppets are as darling as ever. We even laughed at some of their humor.

She's probably watched this one 4 times in the last day and still can't get enough. I'm sorry that some sour grapes on line don't like it because it's different, but as an average mom, I think its great and so does my girl.

Eeeww.. hated it
My baby does like this video, but I can't stand it. I first purchased Baby Mozart and Baby Beethoven and liked them a lot, but when my daughter got older (6 months) I decided to try something new. So I bought her some of the Fisher Price videos. She loves them, and I do too. Then I decided to try this video because unlike Mozart and Beethoven they actually have nature scenes and stuff in this video. My daughter is entertained, but the way they try to make the kids in this video all "cutesy" is annoying. The kids in the Fisher Price videos are very cute. They're filmed doing many different activities, playing with moms and dads, sleeping, eating. Very cute. But the kids in this video are always mugging for the camera - a complete turn-off for me. So, I gave this video two stars because it definitely entertains my daughter. But only two stars because I can't stomach it myself.

My child hated this one!
My child cries when I put this one in. He hates the animated dancing crayons. Let me just say that these movies have such an appeal to babies because, in the exact words of Julie Clark, "they capture the sights and sounds of baby's real world." I don't know about you, but there are no computer animated, singing and dancing crayons in my child's real world. I think Disney forgot that the simplicity of these movies is what makes them so loveable. Pass on this one and stick with the earlier versions (before Disney took over)My child adores Bach, Mozart and both the Dolittles.

Great Addition to the Baby Einstein collection
I bought Baby Mcdonald for my 21 mo old daughter. She absolutely loves it and asks to watch it . It seems to be her favorite one of the Baby Einstein collection so far, although she does like many of the others too. It is a great video with children and animals. It also has many scenes from a farm too. Great video well worth the money.

FANTASTIC TOOL FOR YOUR CHILD
I have a 12 month old daughter and she absolutely loves not only this video, but all of the Baby Einstien collection. I can pop in any one of these DVD's and she is instantly enthralled. This particular DVD gives you an up close look at the farm. It breaks down the farm into groups such as planting the field, harvest, barnyard animals etc....each one of these sections is filled with high color images, interesting and unique toys, and some pretty amusing puppet shows. I am a huge believer in the Baby Einstein products and will reccommend them to anyone who will listen. If you haven't tried out these products yet then give it a chance, I promise the $14.00 is well worth the enjoyment your child will get from it.

Can't get enough of it!!
My 15 month old has been watching Baby MacDonald since his 1st birthday and can't get enough of it. He can tell mommy what sound a cow, horse, and rooster make. He even points to the cows and horses he sees as we drive in the car. We have most of the Baby Einstein collection and he loves them all. Highly recommend getting the collection.

Second Incredible Series from James Burke
Whether the second series of Connections is better or worse that the original is a matter of some arguement, but that they are both great is not. Why? Because for once someone was able to communicate history in an exciting and faciating form, showing that every person, event, or invention relates in some way to every other. Imagine a "six degrees of separation" through history, mix in a strong sense of how to tell the _story_ of history, add in a wicked sense of humor and wit, and you might have some idea of the brilliance of this show.

Until amazon gets it listed, you can also buy the first series directly from Abrose Video (ambrosevideo.com), but they are all worth owning.

Too Glossy
I recently purchased this DVD for my 8 month old. He loves the other Baby Einstein titles, even those a little over his age level, so I thought I would get this one. As soon as I put it in, it was apparent that BE had gone commercial. Whereas the other titles have almost a "homemade" video feel to them, this one is obviously filmed like a studio movie. The pictures of cityscapes and sky look too professional and to me seem beautiful but boring. There are some pluses, the kangaroo puppets are delightful, and the classical music joined by a few children's favorites is still there, although the addition of a beloved Disney song is very noticable and out of place. This one is our least favorite of the bunch, with my son only turning to watch the puppetry. I hope the next one is better.

my little ones favorite
Unlike the other people who had negative feelings about this DVD, I think it is wonderful. I purchased this in the Volume 3 four pack, and it quickly became my daughter's favorite. She squeals with glee at the Kangaroo puppets, and is mesmerized throughout the video. She is only 4 months old, and now I dream of the day my little scientist grows up. I enjoy watching it with her also, the pictures are beautiful, and I can bounce her on my knee with the familiar tunes and she just giggles. It has definitely created a bonding time for us to savor every day.

Excellent DVD
My 22 month old thoroughly enjoys this DVD. I was hesitant to buy it due to the poor reviews it had received, but she can't get enough of it. Highly recommend it to all parents.

the unfortunate future of Baby Einstein
I was very worried when Disney bought out Baby Einstein. This DVD has a completely different feel than then the others and is the first one my son didn't really respond to. It's funny, the number of people and production companies listed in the credits is many times greater than on the 'real' Baby Einstein's but the quality is much worse. Too bad Pixar didn't buy them! A sad turn of events.

Too boring for very little ones
I know this one is supposed to be for nine months and up, but we tried it for our 6 month old son. Hated it! He liked when the puppet would come on the screen, but that was a total of like 10 seconds the whole time. Fabulous!
I can't get over how much my son LOVES this DVD! He is fascinated with the kids and will give this his complete attention. We bought the three DVD set and he watches them all interchangeably. This has great songs to help you and your child learn the signs. My husband never would have learned these on his own. Now my son is 13 months old and is starting to sign and trying to say the words as he signs. It is so amazing. Completely worth every penny!

My son and I love these videos!! WONDERFUL!!!
My son has a birth defect that causes speech delay. He had been going to speech therapy for months in which they were trying to teach him sign so he could communicate in some way until he could speak. Months and month he didnt sign one word until we bought the signing time videos, the next day he was signing and is now up to 40 signs in 2 months and still going strong! He is so happy to be communicating and he thinks it is fun! I highly recommend these videos to EVERY parent, my husband and I love to watch them to and the music is awesome!!!!

Someone else in a review mentioned that none of the three DVD's in the series had "please" and "thank you". Well, mine sure do, so either that person got a different editions - or they have made an error.

Even better than the first one!
I purchased volumes 1-3 of the Signing Time video series a few weeks ago. While volume 1 ("My First Signs" - with 18 signs) is very good, volumes 2 ("Playtime Signs" - with 30 signs) and 3 ("Everyday Signs" - with 29 signs) are even better. The biggest improvement is that the two newer videos include many catchy, original songs to help viewers learn the signs. Another change is that signs are presented in groups (e.g., hot & cold, friend & play, etc) rather than individually. The other changes I noticed are: better filming, less repetition of each sign (this is probably how they managed to squeeze more signs into the newer videos) and the addition of a new "extra feature" called "Putting it Together". This is a segment where Rachel (co-creator of the series) gives helpful hints about using ASL (American Sign Language). I really like this segment, but it's much too short. Finally, the last change I noticed is that Rachel appears much more at ease in the new videos.

The videos didn't come with a parent's guide, but I found helpful information on the signingtime.com website. The website also includes information on the benefits of teaching your child sign language and sample clips from each of the vidoes (which is what sold me on buying these).

For those who aren't familiar with this series:
The "Signing Time" videos are targeted to young hearing children (0-5 years), though they are a wonderfully non-threatening way for persons of any age to learn sign language. You don't need to already know ASL in order to help your child learn the signs in the videos - but you should be prepared to learn the signs so you can incorporate them into your daily routine. The videos are quite thorough - with each sign being demonstrated a couple of times by Rachel, and then several more times by a variety of children. The narration on the videos is done primarily by young children. The signs are linked well with the objects, emotions, etc., that they represent. The children in the videos are "real" - demonstrating the signs in their own imperfect ways, according to their abilities - much the same as when children learn to speak with their voices. wonderful content, but poor sound quality
my son *loves* the baby einstein series. baby mozart is one of the few things that will get him to sit still for more than five minutes, and he gets a big smile on his face when he hears just the intro to the tapes. there were a couple things that really disappointed me about this tape. first, the advertising for all of the tapes in the series comes before any of the actual content, so each time you pop the tape in, you need to actually fast forward past the "our purpose is for parents to have fun with their children" section showing off all of the products. i didn't mind it being at the end of the tape, and we've actually watched through the advertisement on the baby mozart tape a couple of times. second, the sound quality was *horrible*, at least on the copy of the vhs tape that we purchased. (and this is not something that i usually notice.) a lot of the recorded music was very static-y.

at the same time, the content was adorable and the music is something that, if the quality of the recording would be better, i wouldn't mind sitting through hundreds of times (as i have with the "baby mozart" tape). lots of cute little toys moving around to fit the music with colors that my son loves to look at. the puppet show sections of the tape are well done.

A good one to start your collection
My four-month-old son just loves Baby Beethoven and Baby Mozart. Their very similiar in format -- lovely music, colorful toys, objects spinning, etc. So if you're looking for a couple Baby Einstein films to start your collection for your young infant, Baby Beethoven would be perfect. My son loves it -- he smiles and giggles when he knows it's coming on, he laughes and "talks" to the puppets, and wiggles his legs all around. I think I even saw his swaying or dancing one time.

So if your baby is very young (say, under 8 months or so?), I recommend sticking to this type of film -- where your child loves the colors, movements, shapes, etc. But be careful moving on to other Baby Einstein films. My four-month-old hated Baby Neptune, since it had more real life footage -- kids playing in a puddle, a whale crashing into the sea, etc. Not the most exciting for a young infant. I think it just has to do with colors and silliness -- my son even loves the VeggieTales DVDs -- and not an interest in seeing actual people.

Marketing aimed at children
Baby Beethoven has lots of nice pictures with music that my 17-month-old son enjoys. What's a bit disturbing is the obvious marketing and advertising in the 30 minute DVD. Lots and lots of toys are shown, then at the end we see toddlers playing with the toys! We own a few other Baby Einstein DVDs which do show commercial toys, but in Baby Beethoven the marketing is very blatant.

FANTASTIC!
This is the greatest Baby Einstein DVD we've come across thus far. It doesn't matter if my son has been screaming for hours on end, or in the middle of throwing a tantrum, all I have to do is throw this one in and he stops dead in his tracks for the whole thing. He loves it! It's been a life saver for me when I'm in a dire need of a break. If you don't get any other Baby Einsteins, get this one!

Me gusta!
I wanted my 4-year old to start learning a foreign language now since most people seem to think the earlier, the better. Spanish seemed the obvious choice since it's so useful for career and travel.

I am buying her a variety of tools so that she maintains her interest in learning the language. Since she loves her Wiggles videos, I knew she would enjoy this learning format. She really enjoys "Learn Spanish with Carlos and Chiquita" and wants to watch the DVD over and over again. The characters are appealing and the music is fantastic - especially the salsa song with the farm animal sounds.

The video is broken down into six vignettes showing different daily situations. I liked the fact that the video not only shows what kids say, but also what parents say to kids. I "role-played" some of the lines with my daughter (I picked up some Spanish as well). She is also repeating some of the phrases in the video on her own.

The accompanying learning booklet is easy to read and not overwhelming. Overall, a fun and useful learning tool.

I am thrilled with "Learn Spanish with Carlos and Chiquitita". My Son Steven and I both enjoyed the fun energetic format. Although I bought it for my son, I also benefited from the lesson plans. I was most pleased and surprised with just how much I learned from the simple and upbeat musical pieces. My son is still singing them this morning. He was so enthralled with the DVD that he has been asking for his own Chiquitita. I am sure we will go through this curriculum again and again. It is a wonderful product.
