5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
This is mainly directed towards hearing children. I am amazed at how quickly my two children (ages 3 and 4) picked up on many of these signs and use them daily.

There is a word shown on the screen (mother, for example) and then the lady demonstrates the sign with a description of the sign (you touch your thumb to your chin). Then you see many mothers and many kids signing mother.

This one has a lot of songs on it and they are fun songs too.

This is well worth the money and very fun.
Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun For the Whole Family!
We bought all three of the Signing Time! DVD's for our son when he was 9 months old. We watch one a day and I think this one is our favorite. We love the Silly Pizza song. I wish we had bought these sooner! My son thinks these are great and now he's signing and trying to say the words as well at just 13 months. It is so wonderful to be able to know what he is thinking about already. I recommend these to everyone! I can't wait until the next three come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing videos, my son was up to 40 signs in 2 mos!
My son has a birth defect that causes speech delay. He had been going to speech therapy for months in which they were trying to teach him sign so he could communicate in some way until he could speak. Months and month he didnt sign one word until we bought the signing time videos, the next day he was signing and is now up to 40 signs in 2 months and still going strong! He is so happy to be communicating and he thinks it is fun! I highly recommend these videos to EVERY parent, my husband and I love to watch them to and the music is awesome!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I had to say something
I wanted to say something in response to the reviewer who claimed that there isn't much ethnic diversity in the cast, and that boys don't play with dolls, etc. In my Signing Time videos (which I assume are the same as theirs :), there are quite a few children who appear to be from non-white or mixed ethnic origin (I counted seven of them in one ten-minute segment of one of the videos - not to mention the white children who appear to be from Scandanavian or Irish ancestry). As for the implication that the videos only depict "traditional" male/female roles - according to my memory, the videos show boys hugging teddy bears, girls playing soccer, dads and grandpas holding babies and children, a female police officer, a grandpa and grandma doing dishes together, a boy riding a pink bike, and so on. It's funny how in today's society people demand that both diversity and sameness be emphasized (i.e., it's imperative to recognize diversity in races/religions, but genders have to be neutral?). It seems pretty clear to me that the Signing Time people made an effort to be "politically correct". True, there are more white children than children of color, but that just reflects the population where the videos were filmed. I hope that most parents appreciate that kids' attitudes are influenced more by what their parents model to them than by what they see on TV.

That said, let me say that the "Signing Time" videos are pure delight. Besides doing an excellent job of teaching signs, they depict happy children and happy families having fun together - something we all need to see more often.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of this series
Of these videos in the "Signing Time!" series, this one has the most signs and the most songs. ("Music? In a sign lanaguage video?" Yes, this is a sign language video for hearing childern! There is even an audio CD of the music.) The "Silly Pizza" song uses repetition (in a very fun way) to reinforce a number of signs.

This video can be enjoyed over and over again by both children and adults. The music is a kind of light/folky rock that appeals to both age groups.

[small side point: not much ethnic diversity in the cast. Also, in these videos boys don't play with dolls. They do play football, however.] ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars not quite Baby Mozart, but a strong #2
Baby Bach - the third installation in the Baby Einstein Company's series is almost as good as the original, Baby Mozart. My 7-month-old watches this almost as intently as she does #1 - Baby Mozart... which is still much better than other companies' video "board-book" or video "mobile" products.

All in all, Ms. Aigner-Clark's innovation is quite remarkable - stimulating music and visuals to distract and aid in child development. I give all of my friends the Baby Einstein Library (which includes the videos Baby Mozart, Baby Bach and Baby Einstein) for shower and baby gifts - and I receive raving 'thank yous.'

These videos can be life-savers when Mom or Dad need a couple of minutes of quiet to themselves or to devote to other children. I am still surprised by shrieks of delight from my daughter at some of the visuals. My four-star rating has only yo do with my own lesser's opinion of this video's visuals and one particularly annoying laugh-track AS COMPARED TO Baby Mozart (which I rate at five-stars). My daughter would probably give them both five++.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
Having bought so many of the other Baby Einstein DVDs, I couldn't wait to watch this one with my 18 month old son. We were both very disappointed. My son could not "get into" this one. It is the only one in the series that he hasn't liked so far. I believe it may be that the visuals just don't match well with the music, and the whole dvd is quite dull.

4-0 out of 5 stars baby loves this
I wish I'd thought of this- it seems so obvious an idea I'm sure I would've come up w/ this eventually! My one complaint is that Clark's daughters have lipstick on in the video! How very disturbing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Baby Bach
We bought this video and all of the other Baby Einstein DVDs when out daughter was about 2 months old. She absolutely loves Baby Bach. She's 10 months now and it is harder to hold her attention. But for the past 8 months, if we played that DVD, she'd stop what she was doing and be glued to the video. She becomes bored with the still pictures of the toys and the children playing. She loves the music of Bach. We purchased Baby Beethoven also, but Baby Bach is still her favorite. We're starting on all the other videos now, she really likes the puppets. We purchased those for her, they are a little disappointing compared to the fancier ones in the video, but she likes them anyway. Baby Einstein is a good purchase. I highly recommend the DVDs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Underwhelming
This one bores my son (4 mos.), which is no mean feat considering a lightbulb can occupy his attention for half an hour. Maybe these folks can come up with a Baby Lightbulb series; it would take as much craft as the video in question, which is mostly static camera shots of toys and home-video-esque "ain't she a darling?" shots of the filmmakers' kids. ... With the Van Gogh, Dolittle, and other Baby programs under their belts, the tots who follow Julie Aigner-Clark's Baby Einstein series will sidle up to Baby Newton expecting a similar exploration of building blocks to brilliance, but this time there's a wrinkle or two. Animation makes its first appearance, and parents steeped in keep-it-simple culture may object to the springy "I Know My Shapes" song, a departure from classical-only video predecessors. Otherwise, the tried-and-true genius launchers of titles past pop up anew--Vivaldi floats through each of five shape segments, and clever puppet shows play quickly and infrequently enough to captivate the under-2 crowd. Plus, talk about well rounded: Clark covers the bases, showing off triangular sails drifting toward the sunset one second and geometric patterns the next. Play it for a departure from skill-building standbys like pop-up books and plastic sorters for ages 1 to 3. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Just watched and am disappointed but I thought Disney
would do what they did. Disney went and tried to make the videos better. Lots of animation, loud music and fast moving things. They did keep some of the old (simple) concept but they added to it and made it more like most other kids videos. It was so peaceful to watch the old ones. I have all of the other Baby Einstein videos and love them and both of my kids love them. I bought this one because of the reputation of the original company. Now, that Disney owns them I guess I'll be thinking twice before I buy the next one that comes out. I was wondering if they would try to improve on something that worked so well just like it was. There are also no children in this video and the puppets are limited. These were my daughter's favorite things in the other videos. It certainly isn't a bad video but it's just not as good as the others. So, if you really liked the others you might be disappointed in this one also. And, to be fair, my daughter asked to watch it a second time right after watching it so it can't be all bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Baby Loves It!
My son is only 6 months but absolutely loves this movie. He watches from the floor or his entertainment center for more than half of it. I also run a day care out of my house and my 15 month old who doesn't sit still for anything loves this one best. While I like the all classical approach we must face that kids love cheesy songs so I think the shapes song is a hit. I enjoy all of the movies I've seen so far and I use the language library to teach my son German but as for him this is by far his favorite.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing experiment by the BE Folks!
Forget the plush puppets, enticing visuals, and enchanting classical music of the other Baby Einstein videos. This one does not follow the BE formula. Instead, it is an animated presentation with an original song that is played repeatedly, assuring the viewer that the (albeit untalented) singer "knows his shapes." Computer generated crayons draw a clown out of shapes, and he becomes a more dimensional computer graphic.

What's the problem? I noticed that my son did not enjoy this show as much as the others. He prefers the more engaging BE vidoes with puppets, changing scenes, and classical music. (E.g., Baby Galileo). I purposely buy BE videos because they are NOT flatly animated with uninteresting music. Other than the fact that baby didn't care for the video, I found the visuals uninteresting and the song about shapes very annoying.

I recommend Baby Shakespeare or Baby Van Gogh instead of this one & hope that the BE people learn from this mistake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toddlers love it even if parents don't
In looking at some previous reviews it looks like the DVD received 5 stars when people went by their children's reaction. When people reviewed it from their perspective the rating was lower. I concur that this is our son's favorite while I like some of the older versions in the series better. Since these productions are not aimed at adults I give it 5 stars.
Our son talks about or laughs at nearly every scene in this video. While there are highlights in all of the other Einstein videos none so fully engage him as this one. It's not for children under 12 months and our son didn't really take to it until around 18 months but now he can't get enough.
Parents, target this one for 1 1/2 - 3 year olds and don't worry if you don't like it as much as Baby Mozart.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Worst One I've Seen Yet!
We got this for our daughter's 2nd birthday, as she really enjoys the other DVDs in the Baby Einstein line. She likes this one too, but it is really a departure from the other BE DVDs we've seen. First of all, there is the cheesy original song "I Know My Shapes"...they should have just stuck to the classical music entirely. (Isn't that one of the ideas the company was founded on to begin with? But that was BD, BEFORE DISNEY. Now, I have nothing against Disney, but please don't fix what's not broken!!) Then, there's the computer animation of the crayons and the clown. A clown puppet (like the other characters in this line of videos) would have been more endearing. And the crayons just don't belong! If I had seen this before buying I would have chosen another title. If you're still looking for a new BE DVD, I would recommend Baby Van Gogh, which really helped our daughter learn all of her colors well before the age of 2, or Numbers Nursery (even though it only goes up to 5). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great video - Entertained my 23 month old
My daughter has been a big fan of the Baby Einstein video series and we have nearly all of the videos. This one has gone back to the B.E. earlier videos, in using some familiar puppets from previous videos and has the typical classical music playing while showing one toy. I watched it with my daughter as a before bedtime video and she sat with me the entire time and didn't move. When they counted she would hold up a few fingers to show me "how many" and when I asked her if she liked her video, she nodded yes.

Sure it would be nice if they went a bit higher in the numbers, but this isn't supposed to replace me teaching my daughter how to count. It's an entertaining video and helps associate one-two-three with how many objects are in front of her. I highly recommend this video for your younger child and also for those children who are my daughter's age and are big fans of the baby einstein videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD
We own several Baby Einstein DVD's and this one, as well as Baby Shakespeare, are my 14 month old sons' favorite videos. He will walk into a TV room and run up to the television, insisting either one to be played. The puppets play a large part in this video, along with other children. There are also various puppets included, instead of only 1 or 2. For these reasons, he really enjoys them. They are extremely educational and fun to watch. Of all the Baby Einstein videos,Nursery Numbers and Baby Shakespeare are the ones to get if your child is 1 year and older. These are the only vidoes my extremely active son will actually sit down and watch! I have bought this video for 2 girlfirends who have 1 year olds. I strongly recommend both of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Learning...Nice New Twist for Baby Einstein
I'm a big fan of Baby Einstein videos for the most part. We own most of them and have watched them countless times. My daughter (now 20 months) has lost interest in them now. She was most drawn to them from 8-15 months I think.

But I was thrilled to see this one come out and got it thinking it would be more "educational" than the others seem to be. I was right. I really like how this one goes through the numbers, counting, sequence, etc. The puppets, music, objects, format just seems to make more sense than some of the other more "out there" ones.

Best of all, my daughter loved it and quickly learned to count from 1-5. My only regret was that 5-10 wasn't out (and still isn't)! I'd also love to see an A-Z one! The other new one Baby McDonald is pretty good and slightly different than the "traditional" format too. My daughter asked for "mcdonalds" almost every day for a month after we first got it!

And like another reviewer said, be sure to check out the other choices on the DVD, especially if your child seems bored with just the video. You can find lots of other learning/fun things on each one too!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of her favorites
Next to Beethoven this is her favorite Einstein video. It is really interesting how some she won't watch and others she loves. This is one she adores.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein Numbers Nursery
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! I own all of the titles, and feel that this is certainly the best one for toddlers age 1 and up. When my daughter turned 19-months old she could count to 5, thanks to this video (of course I recommend the use of books, fridge magnets, and counting as you walk, etc.) but if you need 25 minutes to prepare dinner and would like for your child to get some educational fun in, this is it. Once she was too familiar with the main video, I clicked on 'Bonus Material' to discover that it was loaded with additional videos, counting games, discovery games and even flash cards for numbers 1 - 10 in 7 languages, which is perfect for our English/French bilingual household. Within 3 days, she was counting to 10! Now if only there were a part 2 that would count to 20. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars See it at an IMAX if you possibly can!
This is a fascinating re-enactment of Lewis and Clark's original journey, told with Jeff Bridges doing the voice-over but with real actors and the original locations. It is authentic down to the last detail, including such remarkable scenes as the expedition shooting rapids in canoes made from burn-out trees, and pulling their boats by rope over the mountains of Montana.

If you possibly can, though, catch this one in its IMAX version. The movie's story is entertaining enough but imagine it on a screen several stories high - literally larger than lifesize - with a powerful sound system to match. Imagine how much cooler shooting those rapids is in the IMAX form! If you can't find an IMAX, make sure you've got a big screen and turn the sound up. This is history as exciting as it was when it happened the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars WMV-HD Disc Is NOT Self Destructing
This is in response to the_digital_dude's comments from July 1. The license will renew after it expires as long as the disc is in the drive. You can copy the WMV file to your computer and play it without the disc being in the drive as long as the license is active. After it expires, you will have to place the disc back in the drive and the license will be renewed. As far as I know, this is the way all of the Imax and National Geographic WMV-HD movies are. Unfortunately, one of the earlier WMV-HD movies, Terminator 2, required an active internet connection to acquire the license. I agree that the digital rights management is confusing to the consumer and really should be documented somewhere on the disc or packaging.

1-0 out of 5 stars WMV HD is MS _JUNK_!
Please note that this film is terrific and rates five stars all the way! I first saw it in an IMAX theater and then had to have it on DVD. Read the favorable reviews of the movie itself to gain an appreciation of what makes it so great, even though it is regrettably very short considering the huge amount of effort that went into making it. It's a timeless masterpiece for better understanding a cornerstone of the history of the United States. Don't be surprised if you watch it a few times!

This review, however, is of the Special Edition DVD. Disc 1 is the standard movie playable in a regular set top DVD player hooked up to your TV. Disc 2, however, contains a high definition 720p version of the film for playback on a fast computer. At first glance of the DVD cover and the generic instructions included inside, one realizes that a fairly recent and rather powerful PC is required. Okay, for a fair number of us, that's not a problem, and it was not a problem in my case. For those of you with a PC slower than 2.4Ghz, your computer doesn't even meet the minimum requirements.

So, I was fairly excited to see what such high definition playback looked like on my 2.8Ghz PC. I noticed that there was no 1080p version of the film on the disc, as the generic instruction card inside the DVD case indicated, but I later realized that the instructions were indeed that, generic, and simply didn't apply to this particular title. Okay, at this point, the documentation goes from bad to absolute crap extremely quickly.

Putting the disc into my DVD-ROM player began Autoplay. Well, immediately an ActiveX control error appeared and suggested I look at www.wmvhd.com for a solution. Actually, that website couldn't have any less technical support for this problem than if it had been written in Latin with a black pen on a black wall and viewed in pitch darkness. Trudging through the Microsoft website links off the main WMVHD page gives precious little useful information, so after Googling on the problem for a while, I found out that this whole scenario is a Microsoft marketing ploy to sell its five-year-old Digital Rights Management scheme to content providers to eliminate media piracy. Wow, talk about shooting the baby when dumping out the bath water. This DRM anti-piracy product is downright draconian in its implementation.

Setting all ActiveX controls, cookies, and security/privacy settings to the lowest possible did not resolve the ActiveX error, nor did disabling my Anti-Virus, Firewall, or anti-Spyware software. Hunting through the Microsoft Support Knowledgebase came up totally empty. Good grief, is this technology ever poorly documented and supported even in house!

Well, after some more Googling, I finally found a piece of advice in an AV forum to just run the main movie file directly from Windows Media Player, but AFTER running the License Registration executable in the root of the DVD directory. Running licgen.exe doesn't appear to do much at first, but apparently it will authorize the playback of the main movie file by unlocking the key encrypted within it.

Okay, at this point, surely one is thinking "Hey, I finally get to see this movie on DVD in high def on my PC". Well, yes, you do, but here's the kicker: THE PLAYBACK LICENSE EXPIRES IN 9 DAYS!!! While the movie is playing in Windows Media Player and looking and sounding nice and pretty, right-click on the filename in the playlist column on the right of the screen and look at the License information. Sure enough, you'll see that there is a limited duration playback period! What in the world?????? Where was this stated on the DVD packaging anywhere?

Truly pondering if this scheme meant that disc 2 of this special edition amounted to some sort of a self-destructing DVD, I ran the license request executable the next day to see if the playback duration would get reset, but no, it didn't.

Keep in mind that none of these limitations are clearly documented anywhere in the online product description, on or in the DVD box, or even anywhere prominently on the WMVHD website. However, if you dig far enough off of that website into the Microsoft sales information for why content providers should use DRM software, it becomes quickly apparent how very anti-consumer this anti-piracy scheme really is, especially as it concerns limiting the playback options for a movie DVD that is not at all advertised in good faith as having such restrictions.

So, whether or not this High Definition DVD ends up being a frisbie in a week remains to be seen, but the poor support and documentation in getting the movie to run in the first place only to learn that it may be self-destructing is absolutely inexcusable. I wonder for this particular release if National Geographic even fully understands what they are selling here.

Again, the movie content itself is terrific. This MS WMV HD DRM DVD, however, is beyond bizarre.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
There is very little historical information in this DVD. They omitted the number of persons that began the trip, the number of boats and they did they tell anything about what equipment and goods they took along. It may be interesting for someone who never heard of Lewis and Clark nor heard anything about their journey but for the average person it is boring. There are some good scenes along the way but they are generally out takes that do not fit in with the trip. It appears to have been produced by someone that had little knowledge and little interest about the significance of the expedition. National Geographic can do much better!

4-0 out of 5 stars Four Stars for Your Viewing Pleasure
The photography is superb, and the action and sound are enough to keep viewers of all ages engaged. As an Imax movie, this is designed for the eyes and ears, and towards those goal, it provides a great experience. Don't purchase this with an expectation of learning much about history, however. While the general course of the expedition is followed, the short length of the film severely limit the needed details to describe the journey. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These are fantastic!
These videos are not to be used as parents. They are to be used as educational devices. If used properly your child will learn faster and more at a very young age. You are most definately supposed to interact with your child and not plop them down in front of the tv all day long. If their child is crying because they don't have the cheap toys on the screen then they need to work on their spoiled little brat. I have seen first hand the knowledge children gain with these videos. Baby Einstein is great for a child not for an adult. The images on the videos are for children. I praise the Baby Einstein company.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are great dvds! To each it's own!
This last two people were the same people. They're great dvds, just some babies may not like them. All of my kids, and my neigbhors kids all LOVE them! They will not cause your child any long term damage, that is just assinine.

A lot of babies love this dvd. My 2 year old triplet's and 6 month old STILL watch them for 1/2 hours and more so I can do real work around the house.

1-0 out of 5 stars My Baby sister cries when she sees this! It sux!
These DVD's are a complete waste of money! My sister pays no attention to them, she chews on the "shiny" disks and points to the cheap toys on the cover complaining she doesn't have them. I donated the disks to the Good Will for some other cheeseball to buy them. If you buy these you will go nuts and maybe even get so pissed, you crack the disks engaging your son/daughter into some dangerous activity. I hope you use this info wisely, and interact with your child/sibling instead of forcing them to watch the dumbest DVD ever. You and your child will eventually thank me for interacting with your child future. If you listen, to my review, you are improving the liklihood of your kid to be successful in life! Thanx!

1-0 out of 5 stars I paid money for this little thing!?!?!?!?!?
This is by far the WORST dvds ever! In ALL of the dvds under the Baby Einstein company, they all feature the same thing: cheap toys with a colorful background!!! I am not kidding you. You would be better off by buying the toys instead of the dvds. It would not only be more effiecent cost wise, but interacting with babies, is much better than sitting them in front of a screen watching a video\dvd type of thing. Throughout the baby einstein series, the same toys are used over and over and over... If you think about it, the baby eistein company is taking YOUR precious money for cheap toys and some clever editing they put on dvds! If you look closely at the dvds, you can oviously tell that not a lot of work went into making the dvd. When you first watch it, the question you will most likely ask yourself is: how much money did they put into producing this dvd? Buying one is enough to know the whole series. In addition, studies have shown that TV is BAD for growing babies. Save your money and avoid this dvd at all costs! I would give this dvd ZERO stars but by the review standards, that is not an option.

5-0 out of 5 stars IS TV BAD
I HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD SON AND I HAVE PURCHASED A FEW BABY EINSTEIN VIDEOS WORLD ANIMALS NEIGHBORHOOD ANIMALS AND BABY NEPTUNE. I TOO HAVE READ THE WEBSITE ONE OF YOUR REVIEWERS HAD WRITTEN ABOUT . IT DOES NOT STATE THAT WATCHING TV IS BAD FOR CHILDREN UNDER 2 IT STATES THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH RESEARCH DONE AND IT IS NOT RECCOMENDED. THE REVIEWER SUGGESTS A MOMMY'S DAY OUT PLAY GROUP,THERE IS NOTHING OF THE SORT IN OUR AREA. I ALSO AGREE WITH CHILD INTERACTION,HOWEVER I WON'T UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTLY NECESSARY BE LEAVING MY SON IN THE HANDS OF A PLAYGROUP FOOLING MYSELF INTO THINKING THAT IT WILL BE BETTER THAN A HALF AN HOUR OF INTERACTING WITH ME AND BABY NEPTUNE. MY SON LOVES THE COLORS SHAPES OTHER BABIES ETC,AND HE IS SAFE IN HIS OWN HOME. I AM NOT A LAZY MOTHER I PLAY WITH MY SON ALL DAY AS I WORK NIGHTS. I TOO TAKE HIM TO PLAY WITH OTHER KIDS POINT OUT THINGS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD ETC..... AND SOMETIMES GO ON LITTLE SLEEP SO HE DOES NOT HAVE TO GO TO A SITTER. I AM VERY FORTUNATE FOR A SCHEDULE THAT NOT EVERYONE HAS. SO FOR ALL THOSE MOMS OUT THERE WHO ARE USING THESE VIDEOS AS A TOOL TO LEARN AND BEING THERE WATCHING THE VIDEO WITH YOUR BABY I APPLAUD YOU. YOU TOOK THE EFFORT TO DO RESEARCH READ THESE REVIEWS AND TRY TO DO THE BEST FOR YOUR BABY,AFTER ALL NOTHING IN MODERATION IS BAD,I HAVE HEARD OF PLAYGROUPS GOING TO MCDONALDS,IS THERE NO END TO THE CRITISISM? IN ADDITION AT 6MONTHS MY SON HAD A FOUR WORD VOCABULARY 8 TEETH AND CAN GET HIMSELF OUT OF HIS OWN CARSEAT!! AND HE WATCHES 1/2 HOUR OF BABY EINSTEIN PER DAY. THANK YOU BABY EINSTEIN!!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Signing Time does it again...
Rachel has such a way of teaching kids to sign and have fun the whole time. There have been signs I've been working with my son for a few years that he showed little interest in. Until we got this volume and suddenly, he started signing them enthusiastically! As with the previous volumes of Signing Time, William (4½) quickly learned all the signs in it. He loves singing and signing along with Rachel, Alex and Leah.
I know some parents are concerned that signing might impede their child's speech development, but we have found just the opposite here. William has Trisomy 21/aka Down syndrome and apraxia. Signing Time has helped him with Total Communication~ when his speech hasn't been clear, the signing helps him refine the word. I've found that as he watches Signing Time and the repetition of each new word introduced, William is more apt to repeat the word with greater clarity each time. He loves to go around labeling things he's learned from the videos, and then he wants to know more, more more!
This is another must-have for a video library!

1-0 out of 5 stars A must have for ALL PARENTS!
I have all of the Signing Time DVD's.. and this one is a must have! It's fun to watch and learn WITH your child! I have a 20 month old son that has full hearing and he can't live without these videos! He signs all day long! The songs are wonderful.
I had downloaded "Beautiful Day" from the signingtime.com website before the DVD's were released and my son went CRAZY for it!I LOVE the song. It's so poppy and happy.Besides the "LMNO" song from the Vol. 5 ABC Signs, it's my favorite!
I can't say enough about these DVD's... BUY IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
They just keep getting better and better, in fact they are so good, there aren't enough adjectives to describe them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
What can I say??Signing Time has been an amazing gift to our family.I had heard of signing with your baby and decided to try it with my son when he was 9-10 months old.He is now 14 months and can sign about 20 words. All thanks to Signing Time. It's entertaining for kids and adults (ask my 13 year old)! And it's all ASL, so we are learning a second language.Kuddos to Signing Time!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!
Rachel Coleman has done it again. This DVD is incredible! It is so much fun for children and adults.Put your kids in front of this and don't have one moment of guilt that they're watching tv.You will be amazed at what they learn in just one viewing.Signing Time has almost completely eliminated the terrible 2's in our home. Our toddlers can tell us what they want before they can speak it.We know when they're tired, hungry, hurt, etc.Signing Time has been the best thing that has come into our lives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great insights
This DVD provides great insights into the Vatican and the role of the pope. This video tells a great story with pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO THE HOLY SEE
Gain behind-the scenes access to the See of Peter in National Geographic's INSIDE THE VATICAN. This documentary provides an unprecedented view of the inner workings of the Church, such as the election of a new Pope, enlistment of Swiss Guards, the ordination of Archbishops, the restoration of priceless works of art, and a history of the Papacy and its critical role in the development of Western civilization.

The Papacy has its beginnings with St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, and leader of the formative Church. He is the first Pope, who ministered the flock in Rome at the time of Nero, and was martyred at Vatican Field in a circus in the outskirts of the city. The disciples recovered his body and buried it in the same field, which became a center of pilgrimage in the ensuing centuries. The exact spot of his crucifixion was preserved by tradition, and is now marked by an altar. Constantine the Great built a basilica at the site of his tomb, which has been replaced with the magnificent renaissance structure of today.
One can see for the first time the original tomb of Saint Peter, which had been lost for centuries and has been rediscovered only a few decades ago, right under the main altar of today's basilica.

Of particular interest are the priceless documents from the last two millennia in the Vatican's Secret Archives. One can see letters from Michelangelo to Pope Julius II, the request of Henry VIII for the annulment of his marriage (this was denied, and led to the formation of the Anglican Church), and even a demand from the Mongol Emperor that the Pope pay homage to him! (Of course, denied.)

Great attention is given into a "normal" day in the Vatican: the restoration of priceless tapestries by Raphael; the cleaning of Bernini's colossal baldachino; meetings of international figures with the Vicar of Christ. In addition, one can see the blessed ministry of Pope John Paul II, a man of great compassion. Particularly moving is footage of his visit to a leper colony in Korea: the Holy Father embraces and kisses these poor souls, not shying from their diseased flesh, but rather sharing with them the love of Christ.

Truly the Gates of Hell have not endured against Christ's Church. The successors of Peter have served the Church, and will continue doing so, throughout the ages. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for teaching about the Vatican and Papacy
Every teacher of the Catholic faith to young adults and adults should incorporate this DVD into their classes. It is so unusual to see the Catholic faith presented without an agenda -- and this succeeds. Everything is clearly explained and given a historical context. I was impressed with the archival newsreel footage incorporated into the explanation of the papal elections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating!
I found this dvd very entertaining and informative. It is a fascinating look into the operations of the most visited place in the world. The beauty and grandeur of the place especially the priceless paintings and artifacts have made the Vatican the most valuable wealth of historical information available. The dvd is great! National Geographic has done a great presentation of the Vatican and great to watch especially if you have never been there. This dvd is a great addition to any dvd collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well researched!
This video is an excellent video to show students, young adults as well as adults who want to know more about their faith and how did the Vatican came to be. I think it is also encourage anyone who is interested or curious about the Cathoilc faith to take a preview of the video. The video decribes how an ordination happens at Saint Peters, what actually goes on during an ordination. The video also decribed a Blessed and is story and how one day, he could become a Saint by the Pope. Finally, once a Pope dies, a new Pope must be elected, the video will cover that as well. The pictures of the Vatican are just awesome. I've been to Rome before, and these pictures just bring back memories. Also, I forgot to mention, the Swiss Guards. The video goes into how one becomes a guard for the Pope and there uniform. You must buy it or at least rent it if you can. The Pope is seen in several frames thoughout the video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary voyage
This series is absolutely stunning in many ways. First and foremost, the cinematography is breathtaking, from the verist handheld shots to the almost abstract compositions of aerial 90 degree and macro shots. Ron Fricke's Baraka has had a lot of influence on the documentary genre, and there are plenty of Baraka-type moments in here, with assorted new age-ish world music pastiches to support them.
But show is not all there is. The script is beautifully written, with just the right balance between narration and interviews, and editing that lets the product breathe, and the viewer reflect. The agility with which the episodes branch out from the story of individuals to natural, historical, social and cultural references is impressive. And amazingly, you never loose touch with reality, since the documentary's transcendence lies upon the day-to-day lives and thoughts of its subjects.
You also feel the respect the crews had for their subjects, and the «making of» bonus shows it well. Ethnological research ethics are respected, in a world where ethical rules towards the «Other» are too often pushed aside by the greed of producers and researchers.
All in all an amazing document to be viewed over and over again. This is one boxset I highly recommend.

FIVE STARS for the Content

5-0 out of 5 stars Africa- GOD'S GIFT
Two Words. National Geographic. I subscribed to the magazine, saw the atlas, and rented the movies at the Anna Lemmon Wheelock Library in Tacoma very frequently. National Geographic took us through the enchanted Amazon, and great cities like Rome, Baghdad, and Sydney. They took us through the terrifing wars of Iraq and explored the top of K2 and Mount Everest. They did documentaries on cats, tigers, lions, lizards, and traveled with Steve Irwin through Australia. Now they take on the biggest challenge yet. AFRICA "GOD'S GIFT".

I call Africa "God's Gift" because in my prospective, he did something special with it. Every continent has something special to it but Africa has a little bit more. It was featured on CBS's "Survivor Africa" as they went through exciting challenges and tasks in Kenya. The northern part of Africa, now in a country called "Egypt", had ancient lands in early times. The people built sphinxs, prymids and had very hard jobs which they did for most of the day for little or no pay.

National Geographic did their best for this and accomplished their mission at the same time. Their mission for "Africa" was to get a television special and feature Africa's best features. I can definatley tell you, that if you want to see something neat and experiance Africa at the same time, this is for you.

Don't get overeactive about this it is a great special but, you shouldn't get carried away. OK maybye you can get carried away. It's wonderful without a doubt and shows everything about this splendid continent.

Give it a try. Go ahead!

Have a good life America!,

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully touching
This DVD series uses a refreshing and unique way to tell the story of the people, places and animals of Africa. The personal stories were touching, the landscapes were breathtaking and the close up on the animals was just amazing.

I was very happy to see a series that did not just identify what's wrong with Africa, but took the time to tell us so much of what is right and is worth saving and exploring. Timely indeed!!!

In so many ways this was more than just a documentary. This in-depth and honest look probably saved all the other documentaries or books that are about Africa.

I am glad to see that so many Africans are proud of their culture, many preserve it in so many ways and yet realize that some changes are necessary to keep pace in a global environment.

Thanks to all the wonderful people from the different countries on that beautiful continent that allowed me to peek into their lives. I am eternally grateful. Thanks also to the wonderful crew that did all the work to bring such remarkable stories into my living room. It was well worth the hard work. It was just wonderfully touching!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Some serious problems, and lacking extras?
From the technical point of view, the images are crisp and the sound is excellent. However, this series was shot on film, and transfer to the NTSC 29.97 frame rate just isn't good. I think the PAL version must be so much better. As a result, there are many shots where motions are jerky. I am not talking about the timelapse, ok? Those are very well done!

Second issue is that this compilation has no extras except the 1-hour "bonus" making-off, and soem web links. Where are the directors' commentary? Where are the multiple languages? The whole series doesn't even have subtitle!? This is such a shame. If you have seen an IMAX DVD before, you know what I mean, they pack so much extras into their DVDs, like 4-5 languages, closed captioned for the Hearing Impaired, trailers etc. Africa is a wonderful collection, only marred by its lack of extras, which are already becoming essentials in DVDs these days. ... The baby-to-toddler set gets an expedition through a variety of animal habitats across the planet in this installment of the Baby Einstein series. Despite the title, there is no real biblical connection to the material other than Noah's Ark toys and a few paintings (minus Noah and family). The subtitle "Animal Expedition" is far more accurate, as the 38-minute program takes the youngsters through the African savannah, rainforest, ocean, Australian Outback, and polar regions. As in its predecessors in the series, this one focuses on a few animals in each segment with repetition through toys, puppets and nature footage. Spoken words are minimal, but percussion and classical music (Beethhoven, Bizet, and Mozart, here) are maximized. (Ages 1 to 2) --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother Approved!
Our son is almost 8 months old and when we put one of the videos in, no matter where he is in the house he comes to watch. The colors and sounds has captured his attention and we can sit with him to learn. We are so happy for your products. Thank you for helping new parents find a way to connect.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT VIDEOS! BEST BABY VIDEO BUY EVER!!
I bought them when my baby was 5-6 mo. She loved a little bit them by then, especially baby newton. Her interest for the videos has kept growing, she is 13 mo now and she LOVES these videos, she pays lots of attention to each and every thing she watches. My baby has never had a pacifier into her mouth, but these videos have definetely been her pacifier all this time.
I can't explain the emotion she feels when she watches me inserting the videocassette for her, she claps her hands, sings, dances, etc!
The only video that she doesn't watch is baby einstein, I think it's a little bit boring for her, and has always been. But for my overall experience, these videos deserve an A+++. My money was very well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best video series I have found
I have purchased several of the video series. Baby Genius and Bee Smart are pretty good. I also having the Signing Time videos. While I love Signing Time, my son is not quite into it yet. None of them keep my 7 month old fascinated like the Baby Einstein series. I have the language skills, bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. Doolittle is a little disappointing. I have not purchased Newton yet, and may not, due to reading of the reviews. But, in comparison to the other series out there, Baby Einstein is the top. I still use the other videos, because they seem to provide more direct education. Yet, I have to work harder to keep my son's attention with the other videos. Just today, my son was getting fussy and would not soothe. I turned on baby Mozart and he has not made a peep. I may not get him to sleep anytime soon, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointed....
Neither of my kids seem to be remotely interested in any of the Baby Einstein DVDs. To me, they seem strange and almost like brain-washing. I think we'll stick to Disney and the like.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly good, if used correctly.....
We have all of these videos and my kids love them. They are bright and colorful, with loads of great images and top notch music. I like that they vary and have different themes, our favorite is Baby Newton. I have no idea why they prefer that one, but they just do.

Now, I've read some negative reviews on here and I must say I can see the point that those parents are trying to get across. But Julie Clark tells us at the end of every video that you should watch with your child and discuss what you are seeing. This is an opportunity to interact with your child, this is not intended as an electronic babysitter (Nick Jr. is the electronic video, or didn't you know?). So if used properly they are learning videos. My two kids, aged 4 and 2, enjoy the chance to spend time with a parent and learn about colors, numbers, shapes, etc. For that purpose they are great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This video is my 7 month old daughters favorite!
We used the baby Bach and baby Mozart videos when our 7 month old was younger and she loves them, but Neighborhood Animals is her all time favorite. She sits in her walker and watches the animals and even tries to talk to them. She gets excited when the pupets/animals make sounds and loves the music. She smiles and starts making her little baby sounds everytime she see Pavlov the dog. We used to put her in her swing and let her watch Bach or Mozart while we get ready for work in the A.M. But with this video she got so excited in the swing that we had to put her on the floor or in her walker! Even though the age recommendations are 1 yr to 4 yr I highly recommend it for younger babies. I took the video over to the sitters and she said all the kids liked it and watched intently. (the ages are 8mth, 7mth, 5mth and 2 years!) I'm not a big fan of sitting my daughter in front of the TV; however, when both parents work and you need to buy a little time in the morning this is the greatest! I hope your children love it as much as my daughter does!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good video for a rainy day
This video is what you would expect from the Baby Einstein Company--puppetry, classical music score, toys, live action children and video footage of animals. It's designed around 4 themes, animals in the house (dog, cat, mouse), yard, (bird, rabbit, bug), farm (cow, horse, pig)and river (frog, otter, duck). My 14 month old daughter enjoys it, especially the children singing "Old MacDonald" during the farm sequence, and the flying cow marrionette. I didn't give it a full five stars largely because, on the whole, the quality of the puppetry (as opposed to others in the series like Baby Shakespeare and Baby Van Gogh) is not of the same caliber and the toy sequences don't seem to have the same level of wit and humor that sparkles in the other videos. My opinion is that this video is simply following their tried and true formula, granted, it is one that, judging from my child's reaction, works well, but maybe needs some fine tuning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler-pleaser!
I recently bought this video for our 2 year old daughter, who has loved the other BE videos for some time now. She absolutely loved it! She has always loved animals and so this, along with world animals are her favorites. I've actually caught myself interested in it while doing dishes even! These videos are aimed toward birth to toddler ages, however even our five year old loves this one with all the animal footage. I highly recommend it- a great way to settle down before naps, too.

2-0 out of 5 stars child's attention not held
I have used Baby Einstein products in past but I have found the more recent titles lacking in the entertainment quality of the older titles. My child gets bored pretty easily with them now, and actually gets a little scared with some of the segments. I am concerned that these products are being made too quickly without being tested on young children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one complaint
This video is very good. It is simple and enjoyable. My only complaint is about the sound. It is of poor quality. It sounds muffled and it is quite loud. It is mostly the music and not so much the sound effects and the child's voice that sounds bad. If the sound were better I would have given it five stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can I give this a 5+++++++++??
This volume needs to be in every preschool and elementary school, public library and every home video library. Since we got this one in December, my son has gone around the house and his classroom obsessed with the alphabet. He can identify, sign and say every letter, and can discriminate between upper and lower case letters. At the mall the other day, he said and signed every letter on the 'target' sign. When we sing the 'A is for Alex and Alligator' song from this volume, he adds other words to it himself, and proudly says "W~ William!"! Not only has it helped him verbally, but he is refining his fine motor skills too! William is 4½ and has Trisomy 21/aka Down syndrome. The Signing Time series has been so helpful in all areas of learning.
Signing Time is 'Superbly Terrific'! and this one is a necessity!

5-0 out of 5 stars We learned SO MUCH with Signing Times!
If you ever wanted to sign with your child but didn't think you had time to learn yourself - this is the EASY and FUN way to learn together. When we started signing with our daughter Sadie at 9 months we didn't know more than a couple. Now that she is 2, we all know over 100 signs. Now that she is talking --She uses her words AND signs to help communication her desires. It's wonderful to be able to understand the sign she uses even when the word doesn't make any sense.

Don't miss this wonderful set of DVD's!

I have all of the Signing Time DVD's... but this one is my favorite. The reason?Learning the ABC's REALLY makes it easier to remember OTHER SIGNS!You get great songs and learn other signs that go with each letter (i.e. alligator, baseball bat, careful...).The Special Features is wonderful as well as Rachel goes over all the ADDITIONAL signs that go with the alphabet! That's a LOT OF SIGNS!
My son is 19 months old (has total hearing) and has been saying the alphabet for about 2 months now.It took him 8 days and he is now starting to SIGN his ABC's, too!
I swear by all of this videos... the DVD's, the CD's... My son is in love with them and I love learning as he is learning!
A+++!

Description

Kick to Get Fit Jr. is an exercise program designed specifically for kids. Different than anything you've ever seen.

Children love to exercise along with this program! The moves are easy to follow along with, while being fun & exciting enough to keep kids interested.

This program involves some of the same effective movements found in Martial Arts & fitness classes, but uses a NON-VIOLENT APPROACH. The muscles mechanics are exactly the same, but the violent characteristics of throwing a punch has been eliminated. INACTIVITY HAS LEAD TO OBESITY & POOR HEALTH IN CHILDREN EVERYWHERE - KICK TO GET FIT JR. WILL GET THEM MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible, Great, Excellent
This is absolutely the most incredible program I've EVER seen. I generally don't write reviews, because most exercise programs I've seen don't deserve the time it takes to write one. So if I'm taking the time to write this one, let me tell you it is worth it. The words incredible, great, and excellent don't even come close to describing this program, I just couldn't think of any more powerful words to use.
The guy on this video, Rich Grogan, has really got something with this program. First of all he is fun, and entertaining for the kids. And the kids that are actually in the video are having fun (genuine fun, none of this paid actors fun), they're feeding off of Rich's positive energy, and having a good time with it. This is one of the major hooks that pulls you in, these kids are glowing with fun, energy, and excitement, and it is basically thrown into your living room when you watch the video. My kids at home can't just sit on the couch and watch this program, they have to get up and actually do the program. It is almost like some super-natural force grabs them and pulls them on the floor to begin exercising with Rich & the kids. I know this may sound strange, and I am sure some people are saying to themselves, "there is NO way my kid would be this excited about an exercise program". Well, I'm telling you it is true. And, it's not like my kids have only watched the program once or twice, we have basically wore out our VHS copy, and that is why we bought the DVD, which is even better, because now we can skip through to certain parts of the program when we are short on time. What I've been doing in the mornings, before summer camp, I'll get the kids up and pick a section of the video (DVD) and have them do that section before we leave for summer camp, or do the same at night before bed. I really would have thought by now that my kids would be tired of this video, but the way Rich has set the program up, it is still challenging for them. Rich continually tells the kids to have fun, and to do their very best, and to just do what they can. But he makes the program so darn fun that the kids really apply themselves, and do what they can to become better at the moves. Anyway, Rich does sets of 15 instead of the normal set of 5 or 10, this way, as he explains it, the kids can continue to advance within the program, because maybe they can only do 5 push ups or jumping jacks when they first start the program, but the goal is to reach 15, so they have to keep practicing at it. Another interesting thing Rich does is, he has the kids visualize they are grabbing apples & oranges instead of punching each other, or an imaginary opponet. At first I thought this was a little goofy, but once again as Rich explains it, it takes the violent aspect out of the technique, it makes it more fun for the kids, and if the kids pretend they are grabbing something they get a better stretch throughout the entire movement, both forward & back.
Did I say this video was Incredible?
I could list about 10 more things, but I think you get the picture. I'm telling you, BUY THIS FOR YOUR KIDS, it's amazing!
Hey Rich, if you read this, Your program is the greatest! Thank you from me & my kids!
Sincerely,

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful fitness video for kids
This is an absolute wonderful video. This is a great workout for the kids, but it isn't too fast or too tough. I've seen several kid's videos, and of course the kids liked them, but they quickly lost interest because it was too fast or too tough, or too boring. This is one reason the kids love this video, it is very exciting & fun, and THEY CAN DO IT, which gives them a sense of accomplishment. Don't get me wrong, the video still provides the kids with a challenge, but it is a challenge they can overcome with practice. And practice is what my kids do with this video, we've had this video for 2 months, and the kids still enjoy doing it. Unbelievable, considering the fact that kids are bored with most things after one use.
Give this one a shot, you'll be impressed!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!
This program is 100% great. My kids love this video, they can't get enough of it. I bet we have played this video 20 times, and they still ask to watch it again. The children in this video are truly having a great time, and it shows. They are feeding off of Mr. Grogan's energy & his great personality, and just having a fun time. My kids, and I am sure most kids enjoy watching other kids have fun, it just makes them want to be a part of it, and that is what this video does. It makes the kids feel like they are part of the class. 5 Stars & 2 Thumbs up for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW - The most incredible program I've ever seen
This program is absolutely amazing. I have NEVER seen kids respond to a program, (especially an exercise program) the way kids respond to this one. I just put the tape (Now the DVD)in and the kids are lost in a world of exercise. I am sure this sounds crazy, especially how kids are today about exercising, but I swear it's the truth. I read several of the other reviews and I wasn't quite sure my kids would be as wrapped up in the video as others had stated. - I was wrong. My kids LOVE IT, we have played the tape over 25 times, and now we have the DVD (which is great), and I don't know how many times we are going to play it.
Take my word for it, this program is the most incredible program I've ever seen for kids. ... Read more
