5-0 out of 5 stars A Video Classic
I have had this video for about 7 years and it still fascinates me today. Very well made and has lots of interesting footage, photos and info on the Titanic. Another big plus is the music which is just excellent. Any one interested in the Titanic and her short history will find this video greatly enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent documentary on the 1985 discovery
I'm sure most people know that this is strictly a documentary on the discovery Dr. Robert Ballard did on the Titanic. I haven't watched my copy in over a year, but from what I do remember, it was very, very good. They start out before they actually find the Titanic with some of the explorations they did during the summer of 1985. Then on September 1, 1985, they discovered it. It's not the typical finding of the bow and such, they scan the ocean floor and pieces of the wreckage start showing up.

There is much detail about the discovery, a lot of background about their equipment, how they went looking for it, TONS of footage, and so much more. If you liked the movie and want to see what the Titanic looked like in 1985, 73 years after it fell into darkness, this is it.

Kids probably wouldn't like this too much as its not really a fun movie, but it is very educational and very interesting. If you were a big fan of the Titanic, you should get this.

It is actually interesting to see them building the robots and testing them before going into the ocean. The video is jam packed with background, pictures (color/B&W), footage, and a lot of historical information.

One of the final scenes shows a someones shoe (crew member?) where it had sat for 73 years until the 1985 discovery. There are no bodies in this (do you really think a body would last 3/4 of a century at the bottom of the ocean? nada), but they show you PLENTY of the remains from the Titanic. I believe they also show some of the Titanic survivors and the gravesites.

Excellent educational film. I took my copy to work after I first got it over a year ago and almost everybody in the office was watching it. It definitely holds your attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars The discovery of the greatest of lost ships
This is the story of Dr Bob Ballard's discovery of Titanic on September 1, 1985. The DVD is the perfect complement to Ballard's book The Discovery Of The Titanic, and conveys all the excitement of the discovery. It is a fitting tribute to the ship, those who sailed and died with her, and to those who discovered her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the whole family
This is the ultimate "real" movie about the Titanic. My son and his friends (5-7 year olds) are facinated by it. The combination of historical info and pictures, plus the modern-day science and technology of the underwater subs used to explore the wreck, are fantastic. This is the sort of movie that can hook kids (and adults) on history and science... a great addition to any video library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give it a try!
Sometimes it takes a few viewings to get into a video in our house. I always preview the tapes before my 17 month old watches them, just to make sure they aren't too scary. I watched this one twice, I loved it so much! This tape is now played every day without fail, and we all love it. Don't be put off by the style of the songs. They aren't really modern sounding, but they are so catchy, that you can't help but love them. Remember that these tapes are for your child, but you have to watch them, too. Enjoy!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Warm and Fuzzy (and blue and orange!)
Similar to "The Best of Kermit" this is arranged as an "award show" - but it contains a fabulous collection of clips with your favorite monsters, and some you've never seen before!

Herry and Elmo host the "Fuzzy Awards," and though Elmo can hardly wait to open the envelope, Herry manages to make him behave while they play the nominees - "Fur," just for fun, "Herry's Family Song," comparing Herry and his parents, "Frazzle," - who says "arrrgh!" no matter what he feels, "Two Heads Are Better than One", with the two-headed monster, "Fuzzy and Blue (and Orange!)" with the terrific trio of Grover, Herry, and Cookie (and Frazzle), "Comb Your Face," "Healthy Food," a Cookie Monster rap, "What Do I Do When I"m Alone" with Grover (what happened to Being Afraid?) and, of course "C is for Cookie."

My favorite moment in the show is the achievement award, which Herry gives to "That Furry Blue Mommy of Mine," a song remeniscent of "Dream a Little Dream" that makes me give my boy an extra squeeze.

Enjoy!

PS. One small dissapointment: it doesn't include "Monster in the Mirror," which surprised me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of monster fun!
I've bought quite a few used videos lately, as the selection is better than what the stores are carrying lately for Sesame Street. This video is a riot and my daughter begs for it almost daily. Set-up like an awards show, the songs "Fur" and "Fuzzy and Blue" are fun and entertaining even for adults. I like this video because it includes the character Frazzle, who was dropped because he was deemed "too scary" to kids. My 2 year old LOVES Frazzle and begs for his song over and over. How's that for scary? This video is cute and the songs are fun. From the songs mentioned above to "C is for Cookie" this video contains lots of monster fun!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sesame Street's Monster Hits! (1990)
Parents,
This is a great Sesame Songs Video. My 8 year old son loves Cookie Monster and I wanted to find a video that did include him. Tap along as Cookie Monster croons his big hit C Is For Cookie, clap along as Grover sings Fuzzy And Blue and What Do I Do When I'm Alone. Get some more monster in you.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great diversion from the all Elmo everything
It took our 2 year old a little while to get into this video, but now that he has, he asks for it every night "Onster Hits".

As a parent, it's nice to see characters that I grew up including Grover, Herry, Cookie Monster which don't seem to appear much in the current Sesame Street shows.

There are quite a few monster in this video that I hadn't seen, nor have I seen since, although Frazzle is great.

I'd definitely recommend buying this video. You just may have to view it two or three times for you and your kid(s) to get into it. ... Read more

Description

The Universe is a spellbinding DVD journey from the Sun to the farthest galaxies.

Featuring incredible NASA images and original orchestral music, The Universe is a never-before-seen guided tour of the cosmos in widescreen anamorphic video and 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound.

Using images from SOHO, Hubble, TRACE and other orbiting space telescopes, The Universe is a dynamic excursion through over 200 magnificent astronomical objects. Beginning with video of the sun’s broiling corona, the programproceeds through the solar system, traveling to the stars and nebulae of the Milky Way, and to galaxies as much as 14 billion light-years away.

The Universe is a mind-expanding trip into eternity. The viewer seems to travel through space, seeing grand panoramas, probing close-ups, and breathtaking vistas, all in full color.

An original score by Paul D. Lehrman and Tim Tully provides The Universe with a rich, Surround Sound tapestry combining symphonic and electronic timbres into a timeless musical experience. Renowned astronomers Alex Filippenko and Karel Schrijver offer insights into the world of contemporary astronomy.

A clear, concise narration names each object as it comes into view, giving its distance from Earth and the data astronomers derive from it. The overall effect is to bring the vast expanse of the cosmos into a clear overview.

The narration can be turned off so the viewer hears only the score: a rich suite of motifs, that weave through an array of variations, mixed in 5.1 surround sound, to take full advantage of the technology. A combination of ambient effects and instrumental placement richly evokes a feeling of being immersed in space with the flowing images of The Universe.

A VHS version is also available without DVD-specific features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing DVD: educational, inspirational, and beautiful!
I'm not an astronomy buff, but I found this DVD to be simply fascinating nonetheless. There is a ton of information packed into the narrative that accompanies the most beautiful space images you'll ever see. It's mind-bending when you stop to appreciate that every image and video on this DVD is of our real world, not some sci-fi special effect. "The Universe" is awe inspiring! Buy a copy today to see for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Universe DVD: Far more than I Imagined
Very impressive visually, sounds wonderful on Bose system. I liked it, my kids loved it! I'll be looking for more offerings from this talented director.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Engaging...A Must Have
I bought this DVD after hearing about it on an internet talk show (Mac Show Live). I haven't seen it since it first arrived; my 7-year-old son grabbed it and has not let it go. A beautifully narrated and produced DVD with engaging dialog that kept me and my kids interested from the beginning. I highly recommend this for kids and adults alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Universe
Beautifully done, excellent narration. Should be in every public library and in every school library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Universally Superb
This new DVD, "The Universe" is more mind-bending than the best science fiction, and--amazingly enough--it's all science-fact.
This DVD should be required viewing for every citizen of the planet earth; it will make them realize that they're actually citizens of a much greater community: the infinite and fantastic Universe itself. This DVD will give you a whole new perspective on your own existence.
Featuring NASA images from the Hubble Space Telescope and other probes, "The Universe" takes you on a tour of the cosmos, staring with incredible time-lapse imagery of our own sun. NASA has been creating these images for years, but--amazingly--you hardly ever see them on TV, in newspapers, or anywhere! "The Universe" video puts them all together on one disc, beautifully and logically organized, with concise narration and music that perfectly suits the subject matter. There's also interviews with two astronomers who describe scientific facts that suggest that our own physical reality is more fantastic than any "Star Trek" episode.
Every home should have one of these DVDs, and everyone should watch this program annually to remind themselves not to get too caught up in the small details of life. We are all part of a profound existence. This may sound really "out there," but that's the reaction I had to it. "The Universe" is a must not only for amateur astronomers, but also for students, science fans, science-fiction aficionados, history buffs, and everyone else who's curious about what lies beyond their everyday life. In fact, once you see this disc, you'll have a new and better perspective on your everyday life. Seeing "The Universe" is almost a religious experience--and yet it's all science fact.
I don't usually write Amazon reviews--let alone one this long--but I am THAT impressed by "The Universe" that I think everyone should get a copy. It's about time someone took all these fantastic images--which constantly move in this video--and organized them for everyone to see. This DVD is indeed "universally superb" because it succeeds on so many levels: as entertainment, education, metaphysical mind-opener, and a show that confirms that infinite validity of our own lives. "The Universe" is a winner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We love these videos!
We own both videos, animal alphabet and animal numbers. They are fantastic, the music is catchy (both my 2 and 4 year olds love to sing the songs) and the animal footage is beautiful. I would recommend this duo to anyone. It also helped increase my 2 year old with number recognition. He could count to 10 before this video, but now can look at a number and tell you what it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Animal Images
We have both Animal Numbers and the Animal Alphabet (which is the better of the two) and enjoy both. Time Life put these out and they do have some fantastic animal footage that is both entertaining and educational. Our 4 year old absolutely loves both DVDs to the point of exhaustion. Our 2 year old gets a little bored because they are a little too advanced for him. Both videos use animals to express the concepts of numbers or letters. Through repetition and humor, the child learns sequencing in this video. Although I recommend the Alphabet Numbers DVD, IMHO the Animal Alphabet is far superior and would be an asset to any child's DVD collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Misunderstood Minds
I teach high school and this video did a few things for me. First, it showed me the importance of elementary school teachers in pin pointing learning disabilities. Second, it is important for parents to explore different possibilities for why students aren't performing. I have an 8 yr old nephew who was just diagnosed with severe dislexia and the original prescription was drugs for ADD. Explore the possibilities! Third, the specific story of the teenager drove home the importance of having smaller classes in high school. I have 35 kids in each class. I know that for some, that is small. I have 6 classes. It is impossible for teachers, most of us wish we could, to be able to cater to the needs of each individual student. The video showed the importance of not only giving a correct diagnosis for a students problems, but the importance of following through and working with the student, so he or she can really succeed. The real stories showed the emotion that not only the students go through, but the families as well. It is a firm reminder that children need understanding, not labels. I recommend Misunderstood Minds.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all parents and schools !!
Parents and educators alike must get this presentation !! We must stop labeling every problem as ADD and get educated on the latest Brain Research . Many young people are suffering needlessly because there has not been enough promotion of this research .

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention Parents and Teachers
I was so captivated by just the title. It is a must see for every parent with a child who has a learning disability. That not every child is an honor student or needs to be. If you see this video you must read the book A Mind at a Time, by Dr. Mel Levine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Battle for Midway - Excellent!
The Battle for Midway is an excellent documentary. Inter-woven in the story of the modern-day search for the sunken carriers USS Yorktown and the Japanese Kagi are the stories of veterans who lived through it and the military strategies behind one of the most important turning points of World War II. The most compelling part of the documentary for me, however, is the constant reminder of the terrible price of our freedom we enjoy today. In one day alone over 1,400 young men gave their lives in the Battle for Midway. The film does an excellent job of portraying what was asked of an extrodinary generation of young men and women from around the world. The cost was tremendous and this film is a good reminder of that and in my opinion should be mandatory viewing in high school history classes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent story of a classic naval battle
In June 1942, off a tiny island called Midway, one of the great battles of all time was fought. The battle ended in a smashing american victory. This video tells about the battle that changed the course of the second world war as welll as an expedition led by Robert Ballard in 1998 that located the U.S.S Yorktown. Includes interviews with both american and japanese survivors as well as footage of the Yorktown as she appears today. For more info on midway, get the Compainon book Return to Midway.

5-0 out of 5 stars the quest for the U.S.S. Yorktown
Searching for the watery grave of the U.S.S. Yorktown, Robert Ballard, who discovered the Titanic as well as the Bismark, went deeper into the ocean than ever before to find the sunken aircraft carrier. Five U.S. (and four Japanese) carriers were destroyed near the outpost of Midway, and the recent footage for this expedition is contrasted with film from May and June of 1942; some of it is by director John Ford, who made two documentaries, one for the public called "The Battle of Midway", and for the families of the brave servicemen who never returned, "Torpedo Squadron", and this film includes several clips from them; they are in color, and of good quality, making it unusual WWII footage.

There are four veterans on Ballard's expedition, two from the U.S., and two from Japan, to witness the search, help pinpoint the location, and re-live their past. Over coffee and memorabilia, they "explore their own landscape of memory, and loss".
Produced and directed by Brian Breger and Peter Schnall, with music by Michael Whalen and narrated by Peter Coyote, total running time is 82 minutes.
Those who have watched the 1976 epic film "Midway", and are interested in the Pacific Theater of WWII, where some of the most tragic and dramatic events in world history took place, will find this film fascinating; it is an eerie, emotional testament to heroism, courage, and the agony of war.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done
National Geographic has always been known for the quality of its work in all fields, but in this particular show I believe they have gone beyond the expectations. I cannot begin to describe how happy I was to see this documentary the first time. It is divided into two sections that are intercut, one being on a ship with Dr. Ballard (Found the Titanic) looking for the Yorktown and the Japanese carriers sunk at Midway, and the other is a recreation of the actual Battle of Midway through historical footage. What is best about this particular work is it fairness to both sides. Within the historical sections of the video, it portrays both the Japanese and American sides in what I would call a fair and accurate light. No side is made up of monsters and no side is completely innocent. On the modern side of the story, it is wonderful to see the interactions between the Japanese and American veterans that are on the ship with Ballard during the search. It is an important reminder to us all that on both sides the people fighting on the ground were just that, people. They were young men fighting for their country. A particularly touching part of the episode is when the Americans join the Japanese veterans in asking the soul's of their fallen comrades to rest peacefully and offering them flowers brought from Japan. There are too many excellent points about this video to list here. I think anyone interested in World War II will love this episode.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Fast
I believe this documentary should have had two parts. One part dealing strictly with the battle itself, and the second part concerning the hunt for the lost aircraft carriers.

The post-war search for the ships, in my opinion, gets "in the way" of the battle. Many facts are left out. One particular one is how the Japanese survivors of Midway were treated after they got back home. It probably was too difficult to mention those things with two Japanese sailors taking part in the search. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Visual Delight
Documentary manages to capture the history, spirit, beauty, and danger of the world's highest peak. Would have receive 5 stars were it not for the slightly haphazard story line, however the film is visually stunning and this alone is worth the purchase price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another one for the collection
I have 7 Everest DVD's and this one is towards the top of the list. Very enjoyable and pretty well written/scripted, and the historical side of the story is educational too. Basically, a fairly solid and more than satisfactory documentary as one would expect from National Geographic. If you plan to choose an Everest DVD for family viewing then this is, in my opinion, the one to get. Some of the others are either too technical or scary for younger family members.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just misses the summit
This film tries to do a lot by covering 50 years of Everest history by putting the sons of the mountain's pioneers in position for a summit attempt.
Because of its premise, the story line jumps around a bit, flashing back through history then moving ahead to the struggles of Peter Hillary and Brent Bishop in trying to follow their fathers' footsteps up Everest.
The concept is strained because Jamling Norgay, the third of the "sons to confront the mountain," goes no farther than base camp, having promised his family he would never try for the summit again after making the 1996 IMAX film and the disaster detailed in "Into Thin Air."
Still, "50 Years on the Mountain" provides a glimpse into the incredible logistics, danger and heartache Everest has meant since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first reached the top in 1953.
Through incredible photography of the mountain's icy slopes and knife-edge ridges, it becomes clear just how heroic that first climb was, considering Hillary and Norgay were completely alone on the final approach.
Today, Sherpas pave the way, fixing ropes over the Hillary Step and all the way to the summit ...
One of the most moving segments of the film involves the controversy over which of the two men actually placed his boot on the summit first, a fact Hillary, the only of the two still alive, has not even told his son.
The Sherpas interviewed throughout provide some of the most interesting views of the mountain; we get a glimpse of how their lives have changed -- for better and worse -- since the Hillary-Norgay climb.
But, again, because this film tries to do so much, the viewer gets teased by this facet of Everest, but is left wanting a little bit more.
That said, "50 Years," is still a welcome addition to the library of any armchair mountaineer. ... Read more

Description

Whether you intend to play bluegrass, country, pop or jazz, your success in acoustic bass playing will rely on good technique and a solid musical foundation. On this outstanding video lesson, Todd Phillips gets beginning players off to a great start with his step-by-step, hands-on approach to the instrument.

It’s important to have your bass set up properly, and Todd goes over the instrument from top to bottom to be sure yours is ready to play. He then provides left and right hand exercises to train your ear and develop the accurate fingering necessary for playing with good pitch. Using unique on-screen diagrams and close up camera work, Todd guides you in visualizing the geometric grid of notes on the fingerboard. Major scales and chords in both open and closed positions are shown, and in no time you’ll be playing chord progressions and bass lines with a full understanding of their underlying musical concepts.

Moving to the right hand, you’ll learn how to achieve volume, tone production, definition and solid rhythm. In fact, you’ll quickly achieve the skills needed to lay down a musical foundation for any kind of music you want to play. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Triplet 2 year olds have been watching videos from the Baby Einstein series since they were 6 months old. The quality of this one does not measure up to the rest. It seems almost like a 'home-movie'. The sound quality and music selecions are not as good and the visuals are slow. There is not much action and for infants and young toddlers it is difficult to have much reference to what it is they are seeing (ie. that the puppets are reindeer, etc). I think the video should be more self-explanatory in some way so that the 'Christmas-uninitiated' will have more understanding of it. The boys will watch it but are not as captivated by this one as by the others. They seem to get more out of it now though than they did when they were 17 months (at Christmas).

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to the Baby Einstein library!
When I heard this was being produced, I could hardly wait for it to come out! It certainly did not disappoint. Of the Baby Einstein series, our 9-month-old seems most interested in Baby Mozart, and after several days of watching Baby Santa's Music Box, she seems just as interested in this one. It holds her attention longer than Baby Einstein, Bach, or Shakespeare (we haven't yet tried Van Gogh). There's a good balance of color, movement, and live action, and the music is varied and fun. It's also just plain festive, and I'm sure we'll play it often as the Christmas season begins.

4-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it
As always, when reviewing Baby Einstein products, I have to make a distinction between what I think and what my kids (now age 20 months) think. Other reviewers have mentioned that it's short, and that they might have picked different songs. I agree, from my own point of view, but my kids are transfixed by this video and absolutely love it. They are at the "word explosion" stage of development right now, so love pointing out all the snow, horses, trains, etc. While I might have liked different songs, they bop to the ones that are here with no problem.

For whatever reason, the Toys 'R Us that I went to had only the VHS version. All my other Baby Einstein products are on DVD, and I have to say that I would much prefer the DVD version. The tape that we bought has some skips, and the quality just isn't the same - and I guess I'm not used to having to rewind things anymore...

All in all, again from the toddler point of view, another successful video from Baby Einstein.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bah Humbug!
I couldn't wait for the holiday season to arrive so that I could play this DVD for my son. He loves the other DVDs in the series, especially Baby Neptune and Baby Galileo. Baby Santa's Music Box on the other hand, is not so well liked...not by my son, my nephews, or myself.

In my opinion, it just doesn't seem to live up to it's potential. Think of all the wonderful, amazing, and magical things that go along with Christmas and the holiday season - alot of it is missing from this DVD. Sure, there are some things included that pertain to Christmas on this DVD, but there could have been so much more. To me, most of this DVD looks like just a bunch of random images thrown in to fill up the time. How many times did they really need to have that reindeer puppet pop in and out of gift box? How many irrelevant scenes were included so that Julie Clark's kids could play a part? This DVD could have been so much more, but it misses the mark by a long shot.

Don't even get me started on the music. Of all the beautiful Christmas songs available, both secular and non-secular, they could have had a much better selection to say the least.

In general, I am sorry I wasted my money on this DVD. Who knows, maybe my next child will want to sit through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Christmas Video
This is my Daughter's favorite. She can't get enough of it. Everytime she watches it I would swear it was for the first time. She loves the kids and ornaments and can't get enough of the reindeer puppet (it's her favorite). The music is fun and gets the whole family excited about the Holidays. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifesaving Gift
I purchased Waterproof Kids last spring.I am pleased with my purchase.I live near a lake. It's a popular place for kids of all ages to gather when the weather gets nice. One reads about a drowning every summer.Sadly, some of the drowning is among young adults who did not learn respect for the water.

Waterproof Kids is a great tool to aid parents in teaching their children that they could have fun in the water, and at the same time teach them to respect the water and its power.Coach Gaylene Anderson loves children, water, and teaching. She believes in her work, and it is reflected in her video. This is a great video to teach our children how to have fun and be safe in and around water. She demonstrates it in a clear organized step by step format divided into age appropriate skills from babies to adults.Gaylene's positive and enthusiastic approach is contagious. She emphasizes safety at all times. The "Before You Begin" and "As You Progress" summary at the beginning and end of each module is very helpful.

It is never too early to set the foundation.Waterproof Kids is a wonderful gift to give to family and friends that are expecting or who have just had a baby.It also makes a great tool for water instructors, and companion tool for parents whose children are enrolled in swim lessons.

Thank you for making Waterproof Kids available to the public. With a product like this on the market, I look forward to not hearing emergency vehicles pass my house on the way to the lake.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your kids are around water then Waterproof Kids them.
I live in Hawaii and my son has been around water since he was 6 months old. He's now 2 1/2 years old and he has no fear of water. This has been very scary for me.On a couple of occasions while I was watching him he charged into the ocean as fast as he could run without a life jacket or floaties. He was up to his kneck before I could catch him.He can dog paddle and he knows how to hold his breath but he's still 2 1/2 years old. When I heard about Waterproof Kids I had to get it but I was worried about getting my son to sit through it.The first time I put it in he watched the whole thing with me from start to finish. We paused between the modules to practice on dry land some of what we had just watched. He loves the interactive part.He has since requested Waterproof Kids to watch on his own many times. When we are at the beach I've even seen him practicing some of the skills on his own. There is no substitute for an attentive parent when your child is around water but Waterproof Kids has given me a little extra peace of mind.I highly reccomend Waterproof Kids as must for kids who have been around water and kids who haven't.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Learn-to-Swim Instruction for Children
Waterproof Kids is essential for all parents who want to give their children the gift of being safe and comfortable around water as well as helping them learn to swim. With a strong emphasis on safety Ms. Anderson shows us step-by-step everything we need to know from introducing infants to water to teaching teenagers advanced swimming techniques.

After loving the water as an infant, my almost 4 year old son when through a phase of resisting going in the water at all and he especially hated getting his face and head wet. After seeing Waterproof Kids my son took an interest in the wonderful video footage of Gaylene demonstrating various strokes and showing infants going completely underwater. Now it's his favorite DVD.

Since being introduced to Waterproof Kids and seeing other kids learning to swim, he now loves "getting dunked" and doesn't mind getting his face and head wet at all.In the last three weeks since he's been watching Waterproof Kids, he's made more progress in learning how to swim than all the rest of his life.It may be designed for patents to teach their children to swim, but the real benefit has been from our son watching it and becoming inspired and motivated.

I am sure that we will use the different modules of the DVD as we progress through from toddler, young children and teens. It's a good thing that DVD's don't wear out because it's going to get used in our house a lot!

Gaylene is bright, energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and clearly loves what she does. Her positive energy is a delight. Give your kids and yourself a life-long gift of love for swimming.Get Waterproof Kids. You won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching tool!
This DVD has helped our 4 year old gain a lot of confidence in the water; the video is well organized, easy to follow, and introduces age appropriate skills demonstrated by swimmers and non-swimmers alike. It is both parent/teacher and kid friendly such that even though it is an instructional video for parents, my child enjoys watching the kids her age performing the tasks in the video and is able to practice them once we are in the water together. This is a good investment for parents who want to equip their children with both fun and potentially lifesaving water skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent visuals and techniques - a great present!
I am really impressed and glad I found this. The step by step approach, great examples of how to keep lessons fun, and really clear above and underwater video make this instructional DVD so helpful for parents. No matter what age or skill level, you'll see appropriate techniques to help gain confidence, progress, and enjoy the water. I'm giving a copy to my local library, so more kids can be strong, safe swimmers.I also think it would be a good present for new parents (much more useful and long lasting than other kid junk we receive). ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not much!
There was not very much footage of the tigers here. It looks like the fillmakers spent a lot of time in some town in Siberia, which is apparently a lot like white trash America. So instead of feeling taken away, I felt like I was taken back to the Ohio. Also, the scientists spend lot of time looking for tigers or avoiding seeing the tigers so they don't get eaten. And not much time actually running with the tigers.
There is one really cool part about hunting tigers from a helicopter (with dart guns to put radio trackers on them.) They should make a video game out of that part.
I think the whole idea of a nature documentary about one animal sounds good on paper, but it works a lot better to watch a documentary about a geographic region - you get more variety in your movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars They Must Survive
This video is heart wrenching. All the effort that goes into saving these magnificant cats, and it's likely too late. Human greed is the worst enemy any species can face, and the Siberian Tiger is in the crosshairs now.

A world without these Tigers will be a poorer place indeed. Blake's words, once so potent, will only echo hollow in the ears of generations to come who can only see Tigers on TV, or in captivity. What that says about humankind is undeniable, we are truly inept (or uncaring) when managing the resources of this planet, myself included.

The biggest and most powerful of all cats, these Siberian beauties are so majestic. What gorgeous footage of these mammoth cats in action. Take a good, close look at your kitty and you will see the same fire smouldering in those attentive eyes. Lets save these magnificant animals!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Professional Job. Tigers to be rescued.
This dvd has been filmed under very difficult circumstances but, still, can convey the feeling of geographical remoteness, resourceless cientific crusades and endangered wonders, such as the cats shown here. Nevertheless, the video quality, though not bad at all, might have been improved if done with IMAX cameras, such as it has been done with whales or sharks. Anyhow, the information provided and some shots, like the helicopter chases or the tiger cub at it's den, make this documentary worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tiger of the Snow
One of the best video on tiger especially on the Siberian Tiger, the largest big cat of them all. Too bad they are extremely endangered. This is definitely the best tiger video. The DVD also include Tiger's Eyes, a half an hour show on Bengal Tigers.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great video for the classroom
"Tigers of the Snow" is a great video for the classroom. It has an acceptable balance of scientific study with awesome footage of tigers. No question that my college-bound biology students saw the application of science occurring out in the field. Better yet though, my remedial 16 year old science students were totally captivated by most parts of this video, especially the experiment in tiger territorality. I rarely show videos in Biology; this one is worth the time. ... Read more
