3-0 out of 5 stars Alyssa Milano! Mostly Nude!
If you're looking for a plot, good acting, thrilling action sequences, characters that you can care about, a good script, or a memorable movie experience, then you're looking at the wrong movie. However, if you're looking for a softcore porn movie starring Alyssa Milano's bare breasts, you're looking at the right movie.

Alyssa Milano gets naked. You see her nipples with amazing frequency. She lets guys touch her in dream sequences. She lets a female photographer touch her, remove most of her clothing, and then kiss her. But beware, Lesbian Sex Scene seekers - Alyssa does not go further than kissing. Yes, that's right - she loses her nerve and runs out of the room. Taking the time to get dressed again, unfortunately.

So if you're a fan of Alyssa Milano's breasts, then by all means rent this movie. Or buy it. It's worth it if you enjoy seeing her bare, heaving bosom. However, if you like movies that you can watch all the way through without saying "God, Hollywood will produce ANYTHING!", then this movie is not for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Vampire movie with Alyssa Milano!
Alyssa Milano is so beautiful in this movie. She is by far the one of the most stunning actresses today. It is unfortunate that this is the type of movie that she did to resurrect her career, but overall it's not half bad. It is very dark, sensual, and intriguing, and Alyssa plays Chartlotte, a virginal freshman who dreams of a vampire who seduces her in her dreams. the film is beautifully shot with semi-convincing performances from the attractive cast which includes Rachel True, Jennifer Tilly, Charlotte Lewis, and Harrison Pruett. Alyssa does what she can with the weak material and overtakes the movie... Main problem is the vampire himself. Martin Kemp does well as the vamp, but I cannot for the life of me understand what the attraction to him would be. He is not mysterious and daring looking. He is quite unattractive. I would have pictured more of a Brad Pitt/Tom Cruies type vampire. It would have been more convincing Charlottes obsession for him. This movie is soft core porn, but it is more than that. An interesting, sensual look, at how our dreams can sometimes take over our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars What was she thinking?
Oh yeah. No one would hire her so she needed to lose the good girl image. Thanks, it worked and now she is working, also.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just for Alyssa...
This is one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life. But, wait a minute... Alyssa is naked and her breasts are just amazing. I have to admit that I loved Alyssa since the moment I saw her for the first time, so if you are a very fan of Alyssa and you are not interested in a good movie, this one is for you...

2-0 out of 5 stars Low budget soft porn
Despite this movie's title, it's not even close to being a horror flick. This is a very low budget made-for-cable style soft porn with a rather random vampire element thrown in to make it seem more legit. The main reason for movie was made was to show Alyssa Milano nakkid.

The acting and casting are terrible. Alyssa doesn't do too badly, but doesn't really have all that many lines. She's mostly expected to look like she's enjoying the erotic scenes, then look confused in all of the other scenes. The best scene in the movie is Milano's encounter with the photographer.

There's a lot of cheesy, annoying voiceover by the vampire to substitute for plot, story and character development. His acting is the worst in the movie.

Overall, the only reason to see this movie is to see Milano nude. Other than that, there is nothing else compelling about this film. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny, Intentionally-Horrid Camp / Cult Sci-Fi Flick
Jane Fonda may regret opting Barbarella as one of her earlier films, but fans of bad camp and cult sci-fi are happy to see the actress in this horridly funny sixties film.

Fonda plays the title role of a spaice vixen / astronaut in the exceptionally distant yet sixties-fied future. When genius but mad scientist Dr. Duran Duran (presumably from whom the band took their name) disappears, Barbarella is sent to track him down and given weapons she has no clue how to use (war has been outlawed for ages) and little warning of the planet she'll be landing on.

Pursued by evil children with cannibalistic dolls and rescued by a tough man in furs, Barbarella finds out about real sex (thankfully not pictured) when she offers to use a mood-linking pill, the 41st century method of copulation. From there she's off to a city of evil, avarice, and sin, to be caught by the demented Dr. Duran and put through such tortures as a cage of pecking budgies to the doctor's notorious and sensual machine for execution by sheer pleasure to a lake of liquid evil whose effects look to have been done by lava lamp. Along the way she meets various helpers (most of whom she ends up sleeping with), including a blind angel named Pygar.

Barbarella's costumes vary with each scene, all skin-tight and definitely satirizing the garb of women of golden-age science fiction. On the whole, the movie pokes fun at the field of early science fiction rather well with a heaping helping of sixties hippie culture thrown in for good measure. The DVD doesn't include any exceptional special features.

Barbarella is by no means a good movie, but it is excellent fare for fans of campy sci-fi that would be right at home on MST:3K and quite humorous when taken with a grain of salt.

4-0 out of 5 stars The hottest hottie ever?
Okay, so these days Jane Fonda is weird, which is entirely understandable given that she is married to Ted Turner, who can often be found snoozing during Braves games, wearing a cap 3 sizes too big for his head. But in "Barbarella," Jane Fonda is unbelievably hot, to the point where I questioned whether this movie was real or a mere figment of my fantastical imaginations. Well, it's real, people, and you need to see it. Not only is Jane utterly flawless (which can be easily seen by comparing her to today's "hot" stars like Britney Speers, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Denise Richards), she also invites every male character in the film to basically have his way with her. Um, waiter, check please? But seriously, we cannot be supporting this type of wanton behavior (primarily for the reason that the women who act this way in the real world look more like George Forman than Jane Fonda), so this type of vision is best left to the campy comedy known as "Barbarella." I am 21, mind you, so I am not biased towards the 60's, but I am telling you not to miss out on the world's perfect female--watch it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A trip
This movie is a trip. In spite of what agenda-driven, right-wingers have to say about it, based on their personal dislike for Jane Fonda and her oppinions of the Vietnam war, this movie is a true classic. It's campy to a point that it makes you think how serious, pragmatic and booring people have become over the past decades. It's a total groovie trip. It doesn't take itself seriously at any moment. And best of all, it actually has lines to read between.

The only movie she ever made that I can sit through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique & Different - A Campy Cult Classic
This is a differen't movie, from any other movie that I've ever seen. You could definately tell that Paul Verhoeven had more creative freedom, because of the big-budget, and the NC-17 rating which allows you to do basically anything you want.

I LOVED the dance sequences. All of the bright, big, and fancy dances and the over-the-top props and desings. Verhoeven did a good & effective job with the dance sequences. Elizabeth Berkley can't act, but she can dance. The dance at the Cheetah Club, where she dances to a Prince song, is pretty good. Kyle MacLachlan was worse than Elizabeth Berkley; Kyle just can't act anymore, although he was very good in "Blue Velvet". Gina Gershon pulled off "Cristal" very well. She was mean and sneaky. Elizabeth Berkley looks beautiful though. She has a very exotic face, and the differen't color eyes, makes her more mysterious. As a person who likes "Valley of the Dolls", I enjoyed the campy acting, and dialogue. So few movies are afraid to go down that road, that it's refreshing to see something differen't once in a while.

Three of my favorite scenes, are when Nomi does the gospel-singing disco dance sequence, and when she finally gets to rise out of that volcano, and the announcer says "Ladies and gentlemen, the stardust proudly presents Miss Nomi Malone!". And my third favorite scene is when Nomi and Jeff drive past the billboard with her face on it, and they drive off to L.A. with the Siouxsie and the Banshees music playing.

This movie isn't BAD, it is just too raunchy. The nude scenes and the dialogue from Henrietta Bazoom, are real raunchy. There is only 1 sex scene. I can definately see where people would be offended by Showgirls, but being offended doesn't make a movie bad. NC-17, means that only MATURE people should watch Showgirls because they can handle it, and that means that people who can't handle nudity shouldn't watch it.

I was shocked to see Jessie from "Saved by the Bell" doing lap-dancing, and pole-dancing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Bad, Terrifically Terrible
As an avid fan of the wonderfully worthless "Valley of the Dolls", I thought I had seen the ultimate in the "so bad it's great" filmmaking genre. Then along came "Showgirls", which showed me just how wrong I was. Glory hallelujah, I have seen the light! Yes, friends, this is the most delightfully deplorable motion picture of all time.

As if Joe Eszterhas and Paul Verhoven (who apperantly have some SERIOUS issues with women) hadn't squeezed enough gratuitous nudity and sex in their thoroughly unenjoyable "Basic Instinct", they have topped themselves in one of only two movies ever to get an NC-17 rating ("Crash" is the other one, and it's actually pretty good). This perfectly pathetic film follows the adventures of Nomi Malone, a hot-headed drifter who hitches a ride to Vegas and becomes the biggest thing to hit the sex industry since former president Bill Clinton. Along the way, she'll throw many a hissy fit, befriend an angelic stripper, lock horns with a self-absorbed rival, avenge a brutal rape, and utter some of the worst lines of dialogue ever written for the silver screen. Former "Saved by the Bell" star Elizabeth Berkely plays Nomi like John Travolta played Terl; she overacts to the brink of Spontaneous Human Combustion, shouting the horrid dialogue at the top of her lungs, which surprizes me because they are buried under twin Everests of silicone. The other actors don't fare much better, partially because they are acting to the worst script ever, worse even than the plotline to the Carrot Top movie.

So why five stars? Because you'll love every minute of it. The film is howlingly hilarious, from the actors to the script to the dialogue. You'll be awestruck by the film's monumental depravity from beginning to end, and because the movie is 131 minutes long, you'll have plenty to savor. So put the popcorn on the stove, invite your closest friends, and enjoy the most deliciously detestable movie ever made. It's a guarenteed good time, and remember, this flick cost United Artists 40 million bucks. Oy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hea, we all know why we love this film
Let's all be honest with ourselves. This film is about Elizabeth Berkley and how gorgeous she was in the nude.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eye candy
Showgirls is one one of the most universally panned movies of the nineties. Everybody hates it, or laughs at it.

Frankly, I don't know why. Or rather, I do know why, and it is not because it is bad. OK, granted, it is pretty bad when you consider some of the acting, and most of the story. But how many movies is this not true for? Certainly it is no worse than most action flicks, and you don't see Jean-Claude van Damme being drop-kicked all over Hollywood.

The thing is that this film is obviously eye candy. And today you cannot be politically correct and not attack something like that. I notice that it moved straight to the third place nationally when it came out on video, and that it has an average rank of four out of fives stars with the audience at Amazon. Critics; can't live with them.

See it for the girls. What girls! They can even move. Elizabeth Berkley's moves are smoking sexy.

And that's all I have to say about that... (Lahf is lahk a box of chokolates.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Paul Verhoeven's most daring film to date.
Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls is a great film. It's flawless, it's funny, erotic, realistic, intense, violent, etc. It was very well received in Europe. It has a lot of cool modern dancing in it, being very close to be a musical. "Showgirls" is the "Dirty Dancing" of the 90s. See it for yourself. ... Read more

Sight unseen, it's tempting to dismiss Poison Ivy as a teen variation on your standard trashy erotic thriller, a genre born with such promise in Body Heat that has since been in steady devolution. But while Ivy is no Heat, it's better than virtually any of those movies that star someone named Shannon. Crisp directing is supported by a script that takes a smart look at dysfunctional family dynamics, but most of all, it's the performances. Much has been made of Drew Barrymore's perfect casting as the title character, but she also does a sneaky and subtle job of straddling the fence: is Ivy a desperate, lonely young woman, an evil barracuda, or both? Tom Skerritt matches her step for step, playing the fallen husband as both hopelessly vain boob and genuinely lost soul. Cheryl Ladd delivers a sharp, minimalist performance as his Beverly Hills trophy wife dying of emphysema--becoming the still-life center of everyone else's life. And Sara Gilbert does a fine job in a role that gives her all the heavy lifting, playing tortured straight man to this pathetic and compelling tree full of coconuts. This DVD features both R-rated and unrated versions. The latter shows a bit more skin, although it's still fairly tame compared to the average skin flick. It also leaves Ivy a bit more ambiguous, and is thus a bit more fun. --Geof Miller ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sara Gilbert & Drew Barrymore Shine...
I rented this movie mainly 'cos I was looking for some Drew Barrymore films. Somehow, I found this one in the drama section. I thought I'd like it, and I was right. This movie first starts off with Sylvie writing about 'Ivy' in her journal. Sylvie wishes they could be friends, because she doesn't have any friend. So Ivy & Sylvie become friends, and Ivy begins basically living with Sylvie and her family. Sylvie's mom is really sick, and throughout the entire movie, you can tell Ivy is trying to take the mother's place. Ivy obviously didn't have anyone that cared about her, and she wanted to be in a family really bad. If I tell you anymore, it'll ruin the movie. In my opinion, the movie was great, and Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert made it a very great film. They really know how to act! So if you're looking for a good movie or two to watch & you found this one somehow on this site, rent it or buy it, because it is a great movie if you like Drew or Sara. Hope you enjoy it. =)

5-0 out of 5 stars great movie!
Poison Ivy is a great movie, starring a great cast of Drew Barrymore, Sara Gilbert, Tom Skerritt and Cheryl Ladd. It's about a young girl named Ivy who doesn't have much, who meets a friend who has 'everything'. Ivy does her best to fit in with the family... END

5-0 out of 5 stars Little miss naughty. 15th april 2004.
She hasn't got hardly any friends, until she starts chating up a girl the similar age as her, who also hasn't got many friends either. Her best friend as a perfect mother and father until she decides to fall in love with the girls father and starts kissing him. Her mother is ill, she as wanted to kill herself many of times. She is a bad person but the girl dosent realise that until later on when she finds her with her dad, and also pushes her mother out of window. SHE WAS THE PERFECT FRIEND.

4-0 out of 5 stars Purely vampy
...Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert heat up the screen in this vampy homoerotic thriller. Drew Barrymore plays the Lolita-esque Ivy, who will apparently stop at nothing to .... well, it's not that clear what Ivy wants exactly, only that she's willing to seduce quite a few people to get it. The plot is not this film's best asset, but who cares? Not most fans of this film, who are perfectly content to watch the talented and sexy Drew Barrymore in this most unlikely come-back role.

5-0 out of 5 stars a word of advice
watch poison ivy 1 & 2 but skip the new seduction. trust me, you'll thank me later. of all the erotic thrillers in the nineties, poison ivy comes off clean as one of the most original & well-made of the entire genre. surely there have been many imitiations of poison ivy but none hold up quite so well after nearly 12 years unfortunately as the one which started thegreat trend. who is ivy? is she a very lonely girl whose never had much of a life & simply desires the friendship of another rebellious young girl? or is she a greedy, evil snake in the grass? perhaps both? i'll have to admit it's hard to know exactly how to feel when you first watch this film & even harder to completely hate the character of ivy despite the evil things she does. drew barrymore gives a slick, seductive performance which is only rivaled by her companion coop(played by sara gilbert) & matched through the brilliant performance of verteran actor tom skerrit(who plays coops father). poison ivy, is suspenseful, sad, & often sensual although never really reaches the level of a softcore film like the rating might suggest. there are 2-3 implied sex scenes which may be considered objectionable for viewers under the age of 16. parents may wish to either view this film with their younger children or to screen it first before allowing for mixed family viewing. if you've seen poison ivy & loved it, go ahead & try the sequel which has alyssa milano. the 2nd poison ivy is quite good too although the first one is still the classic. go out & get your copy of poison ivy today on dvd & vote for me!! forget the tnt televsion edit & pick up the new line cinema dvd. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Lust, sex, deception and the old South
This fairly erotic movie features strong performances by Sherilyn Fenn, who displays quite a bit of skin in the movie, Louise Fletcher, the late Burl Ives, and a surprisingly not bad looking Kristy McNichol, in a tale of lust, sex, and the old South.
Without giving the plot away, Fenn is a girl who can't say no to an all teeth, tanned, and long haired carnival worker; befor she marries into an upper class Southern families (or better to say merges the two families). (And she has the nerve to wear white!) Her grandmother and the local sheriff and friend of the family (Ives)have other ideas. There is a fairly hot dancing sequence with Fenn and McNichol (who definitely left any traces of her character on "Family" behind, exposing a little skin of her own; though she's clearly overmatched, bodywise, by Fenn). Not a bad movie, I wonder how the sequel will be.

5-0 out of 5 stars An erotic story for women
I went to see this film in a movie theater when it was released. A man in the audieance yelled out "What is the point of this?" during the movie. Honey, there is no point. Zalman King's movies typically are geared toward male sexual fantasies, but this film will appeal more to women. Sherilyn Fenn is gorgeous and Richard Tyson will have women drooling. This is what porn should look like, from a woman's point of view. Every woman friend that I know that has seen this has liked it. The plot is questionable, like plots are in a lot of Zalman King's films, but it is erotic and steamy visually. Check out "Red Shoe Diaries" & "Delta of Venus" for more hot and sexually charged visuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chick Flick Indeed
OK. So it's either a masterpiece or cheesy soft porn. This is still one of the best chick flicks to see after a break-up. I own it now and watched it for the first time while in a long-term relationship. It still works. The cinematography is beautiful, the costumes are white and the story is timeless. What woman wouldn't want to cross over to the dark side if she can encounter someone like Richard Tyson? Yum! Besides, men can appreciate Sherilyn Fenn and women can see the full monty, although not Tyson's. Order a pizza, pour a diet Coke or Pepsi, invite your female friends and just enjoy.

2-0 out of 5 stars hardly worth it
I picked this film up after seeing Fenn in Kiss of the Beast. The love-making and overall acting of this one are both very weak! It's basically a cheesy romance novel with no heat. They need to make Kiss of the Beast into a DVD version. That film is much better!

4-0 out of 5 stars about the movie two moon junction.......
This movie is basically about the actress whom at first gouing to marry someone but got 'intimated' with another man whom work in the fun park(something like knots Berry farm) and then he switched job top become a dish washer after he went to the actress home to bathe without her consent to enter the house. The story ends with him almost killed by 'rangers' during the time when the actress is about the get married(excution plan ordered by the actress family members). The last part shows that she in the end went to the actor's place to bathe and this concludes the story. There are two sex scenes in this movie as I've seen the Malaysian bootleg version DVD9(as good as code 1's clarity) after my friend brought back from there. Angie Dickinson stars as a bank-robbing matriarch in this 1974Roger Corman production, often described as a knock-off of Bonnie and Clyde. (As if that makes any difference regarding the worth of the film--which ispretty good.) Set in Great Depression-era Texas, the story finds Dickinson's desirable and poor character driven to crime, along with her twodaughters (Susan Sennett, Robbie Lee), all of whom use sex to distract or drivemen into culpability. The film, directed by Steve Carver, is pure Cormanformula: fast-moving, violent, gritty, adorned with nudity, and yet solidly trueto its own sense of high drama and texture. Veteran Angie Dickinson brings solid acting chops (and a great bod on display) to the enterprise--and speaking of Enterprise, William Shatner is quite memorable (as is TomSkerritt) as one of the gentlemen who fall under the antiheroine's sway. --Tom Keogh ... I watched this movie in the seventies when it came out and it seemed very, very racy. Now its pretty calm stuff with no more nudity than any contemorary flick. Still good, especially if you are an Angie Dickinson fan. The young girls add some heat but the nudity is brief.

Yes, this movie is cheap, exploitative campy trash, with a forgettable nonsensical comedy/ violence plot and poor acting by almost every actor/ actress in the movie,

BUT,
the superb performance and presence of Angie Dickenson make this a must-see movie!
Angie was 43 when the movie was made, and the actress playing her "teenage" daughter Billy Jean was 29! I can't find an age for the actress playing Polly, even on IMDB.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Good Trashy Fun and We get to see What all the....
Hullabaloo was about Angie Dickinson in one of her best nude scenes.

This movie has few redemming social values, other than it's shot pretty good, and it has a weak plot and some beautiful women, including a former supporting actress from "Eight is Enough," Ms. Dickinson, and even "Captain Kirk." But, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good period campy movie...

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for Angie fans

4-0 out of 5 stars Here's Algona!
Friedman's spoof of Hollywood 'jungle movies' is over 30 years old, but it still holds up as both comedy and 'adult' fare.

There's a fair measure of toplessness and multitudes of bare behinds, particularly among the jungle denizens, so this film is not for the kiddies (unless you're a rather progressive parent). What makes the film memorable, however, is its outrageous treatment of that timeless Hollywood genre wherein Anglo-Americans venture into savage territory for treasure or to capture some legendary creature (e.g. King Kong). Friedman (who wrote the screenplay) pulls out all the stops here, making TRADER HORNEE both a masterpiece of political incorrectness (stuffed with questionably racist & sexist jokes) and a harmless confection of tame eroticism.

Blond siren Deke Sills ("Algona") never made another film, but she's a great amateur actress - greatly amateur, if you get my drift - and a balm to the soul. If you're red-blooded, full of pep and ambition, and a fan of matinee-style jungle adventures, you don't want to miss TRADER HORNEE!

The DVD includes the 8-minute film trailer - a classic of pulchritudinous self-congratulatory rhetoric - and an informative though low-key audio commentary by Friedman & Something Weird's Mike Vraney. You'll watch it more than once, and that's saying something!

3-0 out of 5 stars Trader Hornee (1960) d: Lucas, John
Over-the-top sex comedy from producer David F. Friedman "It's the film that breaks the law of the jungle!" A film that makes you ask: "What's a nice white goddess like you doing in a picture like this? After Friedman and Herschell Gordon Lewis parted wasy, David F. Friedman went on to produce a whole bunch of softcore sexploitation films such as: Space Thing (1968); Starlet (1969), Thar She Blows (1969), and this film Trader Hornee (1970), which isn't all that softcore (having sex without taking off clothes?), But it is still a fun picture with comedy, sex and sight gags. Full of cheese jungle themes galore, such as singing cannibals, and witch-doctor with a large people boiling pot.
A detective is hired to find the long lost Algona, heiress to her father's fortune. Joining him are a sex starved gang, including a lesbian journalist, and two of Algona's greedy S&M loving relatives. As well, some scientists are along for the journey, trying to find a legendary white gorilla rumored to be living in the same jungle. Algona is found, and she turns out to be a blonde she-goddess worshiped by the 'Meshpokas', "the most feared humans in all Africa," while the white ape turns out to be an escaped Nazi war criminal. Weird stuff as usual from Something Weird Video.

As usual the acting was weak and the story so-so. NO VALID ROMANCE. When it came to the "exotic" parts, the DVD movie skipped beyond minute displays of frolicing nudes. As for comedy, maybe after a few kegs. By then, you'll laugh at anything, well anything like this waste of funds.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment Bonanza
This movie is incredibly ahead of it's time. Considered porn in it's day due to nude females and "adult" language, it is no more shocking by todays standards than a Madonna video. It is the comedy that sets this one apart from the crowd.

This is ribald comedy in the classical sense, peppered with 1960s taboos and social commentary, but serving up the sight gags and asides when you least expect them.

A Dave Freidman classic. ... Read more

Description

Look out, it's Lila! A sweet-faced topless go-go dancer, Lila loves mixing S-E-X with L-S-D. Trouble is, when she starts hallucinating, she sees flashing lights and swirling colors. The freaked-out Lila then grabs a handy meat cleaver and promptly hacks up her lovers in an acid-fueled frenzy. A mesmerizing mix of murder and madness from producer Harry Novak (Please Don't Eat My Mother), this edition of "Mantis in Lace" is the premiere of the rare, uncut version, digitally remastered from the original 35mm hallucinogenic negative. Outta sight, baby. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The good scenes are amazing
Mantis in Lace is a very mixed bag. You would think that a sexploitation / mad-slasher movie combined with the LSD subculture of the 60's would be a great idea -- and it is. But nearly half of this movie consists of extended scenes of strippers performing in the club or "trying out" on the casting couch. One can't help but feel that they only had enough time and budget to shoot half a movie and needed to pad it to get to a feature length running time.

With that said, the scenes where Lila trips out on acid and kills her prey are outstanding. Laszlo Kovacs was the cinematographer and it's easy to see that he would go on to shoot such classics as Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces. Susan Stewart is a remarkably bad actress who can't deliver a line to save her life or even pass herself off as a mediocre stripper. But she's very cute and she has a certain charm that prevents her lack of talent from completely ruining the movie.

The DVD presentation of the movie is in full frame (1.33:1). The picture quality is outstanding for a 35 year old low-budget movie. The outtakes are actually longer than the movie itself, and it appears that there may have been a version of this movie that was far bloodier the the final cut that's presented her.

There are three short films on the DVD as extras, two of which are great time capsule relics from the 60's. "LSD: Trip or Trap!" is a 19-minute film produced by the Inglewood Police Department to warn youth of the dangers of LSD. It's sort of a 1960's version of Refer Madness. The second, "Alice Goes to Acidland", is a 12-minute nudie acid trip that almost defies description.

4-0 out of 5 stars response to the VIEWER from Deluth
You can't compare this film to THe WALL. Here is my opinion(if u want it). People who are born from the 1980's on should NEVER compare a film they just recently watched from today's standards. The WALL was a film concerning a band member who was mentally ill and abused by his parents. Mantis in Lace (however)is a time period picture. You(as the saying goes) had to be there in the 60's experimenting with LSD and drugs (San Francisco/Haight Astbury area). In order to appreciate the fullness of the film. The two films are completely different! I, on the otherhand enjoyed this film. Hilarious, entertaining and very similar to Jack Nicholson's THE TRIP. Mantis is no better then The WALL. Both films are good but come from different decades.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Psychedelic Trip
First of all, kudos to Something Weird Video for the Special Edition DVD release of "Mantis in Lace". SWV has done an excellent job with this DVD. I have never seen this movie before and I've wanted to buy this DVD for some time. I really love this film. I like the way it was filmed. The lighting or lack of lighting, on most of the scenes are great. The lack of lighting makes the film look like a film noir. The scenes where Lila is tripping out on acid are excellent. The colors and the geometric designs that are lighted on the actor's faces are fantastic. The director of photography, Laszlo Kovacks, has done an excellent job of capturing the psychedelic imagery to the screen. The acting is just awful, but that's what makes the film great. The movie is 87 minutes long. It was filmed between November 18-25 of 1967 and released in theaters and drive-ins in 1968. The psychedelic music sounds like early unreleased Pink Floyd recordings. It uses tapes that were cut up and then edited back together at random, backwards tapes, heavy echo, laughter, and strange music. The theme to the movie is really corny, but I found myself playing it over and over again. It's kind of like a train wreck, you don't want to look, but you know you just have to. The special edition DVD includes the original theatrical trailer of the film, an alternate psychedelic murder scene which is the same as the first murder scene, but more psychedelic designs are superimposed to the original scene. Things like fireworks going off, more geometric psychedelic designs, negative exposure of go-go girls dancing, and a fat man in a black mask holding bananas and dollar bills in his hands. The DVD also includes over 100 minutes of out takes, deleted and alternate scenes from the film. This feature doesn't have any sound, but the music and sound effect tapes from "Mantis in Lace" is dubbed in so you can hear the music and effects without the dialog. It's like having the original soundtrack on the DVD. This section also features a much longer version of the movie's theme. The funny thing is that some of the music that is in "Mantis in Lace" is also in the movie "Mondo Mod". This is because the same man, Harry Novack, produced both films. The DVD also includes The following archival short subject films:
1. Sid Davis's classic classroom scare film "LSD: Trip or Trap?"
2. "Alice Goes To Acidland"
3. "Girl in a Cage" Why this short film is added, I don't know why. It doesn't relate to the rest of the DVD.
4. A gallery of Harry Novack Exploitation movie poster art with Harry Novack radio-spot rarities.
If you want to know what an underground psychedelic/sexploitation/exploitation film is, this is the film to watch. I highly recommend it. I am very pleased with "Mantis in Lace. It's everything I thought it would be. This DVD will be played a lot on my DVD player. It's now one of my three favorite DVDs. I am not disappointed with "Mantis in Lace". This is psychedelia at its best. They don't make movies like this anymore. By the way, does anyone know what ever happened to Susan(Lila)Stewart? She's a real H-O-T-T-I-E.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's worth just four stars
I recently bought this on VHS and finally finished watching it. Nothing really to add except that Lila's indeciferable accent is just a slight "Little Dutch Girl" twang in her speech. Far out! The ending is about what one would expect. Susan Stewart was a very attractive girl. I wonder whatever became of her.
Selling Real Estate down in Florida no doubt. Groovy, Man.

What's the deal with the bananas?

3-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good trip
A trippy psychedelic go-go dancing murder movie. The dialogue scenes were pretty fun to watch - wish there were more of them.

One drawback was the frequency and length of the topless go-go dancing scenes. At least 4 of them seemed to last 5-10 minutes.

I actually liked the theme song (it was constantly played). The color and video looked very high quality. ... Read more
