I do think the intensity level, especially for cardio, is quite a bit lower than some of the older Firm tapes. However, it is still challenging enough for me (an intermediate level aerobics person) to get up a good sweat. I did get the Fanny Lifter as I think it adds a lot to the Firm workouts (although this workout only did one or two sets of step-ups with the Lifter). I don't think the sculpting stick is needed for this one. The twigs can be duplicated by using 16 oz. cans from the kitchen, and I think using the stick for balance actually lessens the intensity of some of the exercises. As others have mentioned, I'm not sure I like the production of the newer Firm workouts as much. The workout participants seem even more smiley and plasticky and fake than usual. The main instructor on this workout, though, is very good. Cues are spot-on, and she is upbeat without being overly peppy. I'd recommend this one.

I purchased this DVD three weeks ago and have been using at least one of it's programs every night since then. The first program is a beginning yoga session lasting 15-20 minutes. I'm not very flexible but the stretches aren't overly difficult (except for downward dog... argh!). My only issue is that Maritza moves along pretty quickly and doesn't hold the stretches for more than a few seconds. The second program is a body scan meditation lasting 15-20 minutes. This meditation is very relaxing and you have to focus or you will fall asleep. Martiza's soothing voice can calm a wild beast in a heartbeat. This meditation is very relaxing and can be used before bedtime to great benefit. The third and final program is a seated meditation lasting 15-20 minutes and is my favorite. Maritza shares her insight from 20 years of meditation with master teachers and instructs the viewer as if it was her first time in class. I'm still trying to quiet my mind for longer than a few seconds but with practice and dedication Maritza's words have put me on the right path. I'm strongly recommending this DVD to those even remotely interested in yoga or meditation.
I did a bit of a search here and found this DVD - it was brilliant, even after the first run through I found it did so much for me. All of a sudden I was starting to see a little bit of light through the thick mud. A friend of mine had recommended meditation and the scientific magazine that I read had noted that meditation does the equivalent for the brain as going to the gym does for your body - it keeps it fit, but I didnt think it would be this good! So total thumbs up to the creators and now, after purchasing the Gaiam AM/PM meditations DVD a week or so ago as well and the AM/PM Yoga Meditations CD.. I am set. My days are much nicer and I look forward to them more. Thanks Gaiam for helping me find that happy life again.
I started using the DVD on a daily basis about two weeks ago, and it has begun to have a very real effect on the quality of my life. I spend about 40 minutes in the morning before I start my work-day with the DVD. The first 15 or so minutes are spent loosing up the body with a number of light yoga stretches, and then I use the first of two meditation programs which is called a "body scan". It's a meditation program that really puts you into a state of deep relaxation. It doesn't make you sleepy (though it might if you performed it in the evening), on the contrary, I always feel rejuvenated by the end of the routine. I haven't moved to the second program yet, but I plan to next week. It's a seated meditation program that is meant to help you refresh and focus your mind. I honestly can't wait to get started! This DVD took me by surprise. Do yourself a favor and buy it. Even if you don't get anything out of the meditation program itself, the production of the DVD is outstanding. It's like a trip to Hawaii. A very, very, relaxing trip to Hawaii. ... Read more

The scenery is fantastic--especially the bright mountaintop sunrise for the a.m. program. Madeline Lewis is pleasant and very "down to earth" (no new age "yoga speak"). My only criticism (and not enough to give it less than 5 stars): There are one or two postures in each program that are uncomfortable if you have low back pain. I've practiced yoga long enough to know how to modify them, but instructions either aren't given or they aren't given until you're already in the posture. This is a great program for all levels--easy enough for most beginners, but still worthwhile for those who are already pretty active.

Top professional surfers swear by yoga and now see the infinite sea of possibilities in taking up yoga in addition to their favorite sport: surfing. They rely on the advice of instructors like Peggy Hall who writes articles for "Surf Life for Women." In the Fall 2002 issue, she introduces some of the poses she has incorporated into her new workout video. She is an avid surfer and certified yoga instructor. Peggy created the "Yoga for Surfers" video series and teaches yoga clinics and private classes. This is a unique workout because it is especially designed for surfers and their specific needs. Expert yoga instruction is interspersed with surf footage. "Every surfer should discover Yoga." -Rochelle Ballard ("Blue Crush" stunt surfer) "Yoga changed my surfing - and my life." -Taylor Knox (a noted big-wave charger admired for his powerful, fluid surfing style) The Setting: Filmed at Ballard and Knox's favorite surf breaks on the North Shore in Carlsbad, California. The Level: Beginner to Intermediate The Poses: Classic yoga with a few very creative twists I hadn't seen before. Intriguing. I really loved the poses and the pace. The Results: Injury prevention, increased strength, flexibility and focus. Helps you to avoid chronic pain and has specific moves that will sharpen your mental focus. I loved the soundtrack, which is pleasant and calming. Volume I has three sections: Pre-Surf Session: Flexibility and Focus You can use this routine to warm-up before surfing. It is an energizing routine that flows from one pose to the next and can be done at the beach. At home, a "sticky" yoga mat and a towel is recommended. This section of the workout will help you avoid injury, ease neck, shoulder, or back pain and sharpen your mental focus. Water Session: Energy and Confidence These are simple moves you can do while on a surfboard out in the water between sets. They can also be done at home while seated as most of the poses are for the upper body. It is fun to do the poses in your living room with the aid of the "top of a step" between Post-Surf Session: Stretching and Rejuvenation. This is my favorite section. It is just so relaxing and you could do this section after a long Yoga will also enhance other areas of your life and make you feel more in control of your inner world. This video has been very well received in surfing and yoga circles. Highly Recommended because this workout not only gives you a great workout, it will help you to find a deep sense of well-being and increase your energy level. A workout lifestyle to give you the flexibility to surf better, longer. Also look for Volume II: Fluid Power Yoga for Surfers which is a 40-minute routine to strengthen and stretch all your surfing muscles while improving stamina, balance and mental focus.
This will definitely help my body now that I'm 45 and have been surfing for 39 years!
The pace is perfect, the music is perfect, plus there is surf footage! What else could you ask for? The stretches hit all the right places and the transition from pose to pose is fluid. Peggy Hall's instructions are very easy to follow and I love her tone of voice. It is incredibly refreshing and upbeat compared to the mysterious tone most videos try to achieve. It truly makes an already fabulous video even better. This video is exactly what I need to keep me in shape during the long flatness that is a Florida summer. Regardless I HIGHLY recomment this video for surfers and non-surfers.

I ony give this four stars rather than five simply because I feel it would be quite easy to injure yourself using this, even if you follow the modifications; partly because some of the movements are very fast and if you don't know how to position your body correctly you could end up wrenching something vital; and also because, as is the sad norm with any exercise video, the modification models are tucked away at the back and don't seem to get the same amount of camera time as Ms. Kamler or those demonstrating the full, advanced versions of the moves. Maybe some day someone will give prominence to the less advanced practitioners. So it's tough but good. But proceed with caution, and remember that a)you can always move a little more slowly than the models do and b) you can ignore Erin Kamler when she tells you that it's only your mind that tells you to stop, because it could well be a muscle injury developing!
She is the image of YOGA!
I enjoy kundalini yoga but prefer not to work quite this hard. This one will test your strength and endurance like few kundalini yoga workouts. Erin's excellent, but I will stick with her first dvd (even though introductory is in the other title it's a good one for intermediate levels as well, or advanced levels wanting a less taxing day). I hope Erin will come out with more dvds somewhere in between volume 1 and 2 for challenge. Or more like volume 1 even would be nice. This one is so tough I might give it to one of my friends who is a fitness addict who doesn't feel she's working herself unless she suffers. (But then she's also in her 20's so her body can take the heat). Loved the music though (same as on her introductory dvd, only more of the fast tempo music). And the outdoor location (also shown on the introductory dvd) is pretty. I don't want to say anything negative about this dvd, because you definitely get your money's worth and then some, and it's wonderful in so many ways. But I think most people looking to do kundalini yoga will be more drawn to volume 1 unless you're like my friend, the fitness addict who won't settle for anything less than a super challenging workout. Or if the only yoga you do is power yoga or ashtanga, this one may be for you. Just be prepared to work hard. Besides volume 1 I recommend Erin's CD with her songs. This girl can sing!!
They're a lot of fun to do. The music is terrific (very pretty) and I love the gorgeous outdoor setting by the water. Aside from being a yoga teacher, Erin Kamler (Mantra Girl) is also a recording artist and her music is the best I've heard yet on any kundalini yoga video/dvd. I'm considering getting her CD now so I can listen to it at work. She's a good instructor. She says enough to guide you, but doesn't talk too much like some others. Instead, she lets you focus on the yoga. This advanced kundalini yoga routine is more challenging than her first dvd, of course. But even if you're very fit, if you're new to kundalini yoga I recommend getting her first dvd as well. This one won't show you how to breathe properly, as it's assumed you've seen her demonstrate on her introductory dvd. And kundalini yoga breathwork (breath of fire) is unlike that of any other type of yoga. The exercises are quite different as well, with more emphasis on movement and flexing the spine. I prefer kundalini yoga to any other type. If you're a true lover of kundalini yoga - whatever your level - you may want to get both volumes. The first is more laid back but very effective, this second dvd is a great one to grow into (even if you're not there yet). They're quite different from each other but compliment each other really well. This advanced routine will work you hard but like the first dvd, will leave you feeling great afterward. I no sooner finish the workouts when I find myself looking forward to doing them again. ... Read more
