5-0 out of 5 stars A Whole Lot of FUN!
I have tried several workout programs in the past, none being successful. I picked this up on a whim- and boy was I impressed. The video is fun, energetic, and easy to learn. I appreciated the short 10 minute sessions the most in the beginning, because I am out of shape. I started with the first session and did that one over and over until I learned the routine. Now, less than 4 weeks later, I do all 4 sessions every day and am very comfortable with the program. I work up a sweat, learn new dance moves, hear good music beats, and really enjoy myself each time I do the workout. And now best of all, Im starting to loose inches from my waist! ... Read more

Description

In this fascinating and informative DVD, best-selling author, medical anthropologist and shaman-healer of the Inka tradition Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., introduces viewers to the luminous energy field that surrounds and informs the physical body like a blueprint of life. Unveiling the secret of ancient shaman-healers, he teaches that many of our physical and psychological problems stem from imprints within our luminous body.

During the course of this DVD, Dr. Villoldo reveals the extraordinary nature of this luminous energy field and how, by understanding its nature, we can actually heal ourselves and each other. Once the luminous field is cleared, Dr. Villoldo explains, true physical and emotional healing can begin.

Trained as a medical anthropologist, Dr. Villoldo left the academic world behind twenty years ago to study among the Inka shamans. It was in the Andes mountains of South America that he discovered the wisdom of the luminous energy field from the indigenous shamans. This ancient knowledge reveals the secret of true heath and happiness.

To aid Dr. Villoldo in explaining the luminous energy field, the paintings of visionary artist Alex Grey are presented. No other artist has depicted the luminous energy field in all of its intricacies as clearly as Alex Grey. Dr. Villoldo's presentation, together with Alex Grey's images help us to gain a deeper perception of the path to spiritual , emotional and physical well-being.

Many of our illnesses, psychological disorders, addictions and failed relationships can be traced to faulty imprints in our luminous energy fields. In this DVD, Dr. Villoldo reveals how to heal and recover from these destructive imprints.

Join Dr. Villoldo, as he travels to the Andes Mountains to learn the secret of the ancient shamans, a secret that can lead all of us to heath, happiness and beauty. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great intro to Villoldo's work
Overall this dvd was well done. It is basically a talk given by Alberto describing his healing practices and the energy body. This is a great intro to a great mans work. I really enjoyed Villoldos books and believe that he is a great teacher. I would have liked to have seen a demonstration in this video. Maybe a live healing/ cleansing or some guided meditation. Perhaps his technique on balancing the chakras.

Thank You Alberto...Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Soothing and Strenuous
This is the best pregnancy workout I've tried yet. So many of them have you working on your back or doing other things that are dangerous for moms to be. The main instructor is great and the video is easy to follow and very soothing.
The other thing that's great about this one is that the modifications for different trimesters are done by the three instructors throughout the video- so you can use it from the moment you find out you're pregnant until delivery- and you don't have to fast forward to the trimester your in- it's all right there throughout.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a great workout that's SAFE!

1-0 out of 5 stars poor work, instructor is too inexperienced
this is a poor quality exercise video; i was hoping the prenatal activity would be better, but its hard to do with the inconsistent instruction from the teacher, who is nice, but she doesn't exude much confidence and doesn't seem very polished at being in front of the camera, which makes a video workout hard to follow...I'd recommend Fitmama or something else, this is not very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very little challenge for women who are active pre-pregnancy
This workout has some great stretching but was not a challenge for someone who is newly pregnant and already active. I was looking for something that would make me sweat or really tone muscles enough that I could feel a difference.

I would recommend this workout for women in their third trimester or women who did not workout before pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for stretching, toning muscles, safe prenatal exercise
This is the second pregnancy dvd that I've ordered, and it is by far the best. If you're looking for an aerobic workout, you won't get one here. What you will get is a yoga, pilates, mild weight session that really helps to stretch and strengthen muscles and feel more in tune with your body. I found it helpful to have 3 models to follow, one doing more strenuous stretches for the 1st and 2nd trimester folks and the other two doing modifications of the same stretches for 3rd trimester. I have personally found yoga to be boring, but this tape moves quickly enough to keep my interest and incoporate pilates moves to make it go quickly and be relaxing at the same time. Of course, you will need to "invest" in some equipment to get the most from the workout; you'll need a stool or chair, 2 2lb. weights, a small ball, and a pole about 4 ft. high for some of the stretches. Sometimes I find that I really need to watch the screen to follow Jennifer Gianni's instructions. Unfortunately, she does not mirror what you are doing (she says, "stretch to the right" and she does, but it looks as though she's stretching to the left from my perspective), but I believe that in time I'll get used to the workout and won't have to depend so much on visual prompts. Overall, I am happy that I spent the money on this dvd. I will probably keep on watching after my delivery. This exercise, combined with a brisk daily walk and some other areobic activities make me feel as though I'll be ready when it's time for labor!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good video for stretching, strengthening, relaxation
Before pregnancy, I did yoga regularly, but I had never done pilates, so I can't compare this video to other pilates options, prenatal or otherwise. I can say that I feel good after a session with this video - more flexible, relaxed. My back, in particular, seems to benefit. The exercises are varied, with some yoga, some pilates, some light weights (upper body only), and stretches. It is good to know in advance that some "props" are used in the video - a stool, a wooden dowel (I use a mop handle), 2-pound weights, and a yoga mat if you like to use one. They also recommend a ball and a blanket, but I don't find those necessary. Easy to use with the sound off once you have been through the routine a few times. The modifications for 1st and 2nd vs. 3rd trimester seem appropriate, and all are shown simulatenously, so no need to skip around to find your trimester. I watched the intro and "Kegel" exercise portion only once, and skip the relaxation segment at the end, so a session now takes about 50 minutes. The instruction is generally clear, and it is nice to see a real, healthy- and happy-looking pregnant (3rd trimester) woman leading the video. If you are looking for a pregnancy workout video that is very aerobic/high intensity, you might look elsewhere, but for stretching, strengthening, flexibility, relaxation, and overall feeling good, this one is helpful. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ellen Barrett is a great instructor!
I have three other videos highlighting Ellen Barrett as the instructor (check out Crunch Pilates series). She does it again with this DVD!This DVD has 30 minutes of great toning exercises that get your heart pumping and trust me, you feel the burn. You will definitely feel it the next day, which is a great sign of an effective workout.

The video is long enough to get a good workout, short enough that you don't dread it.The only thing I was disappointed in is the sound quality since it was taped on the shores of Mexico (literally on the beach), the sound just wasn't like her other "in studio" productions (which is understandable).Other than that, this is in my regular rotation of excellent workout DVDs.

If you do not care for leg intensive squats or using dumbbells in your workouts this may not be the DVD for you. However, if you are looking for a great new DVD to work and tone your entire body, this is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best of the best!
I just got this video in the mail today and did it immediately- it satisfied me beyond my expectations. You start out with a slow warm up, reviewing the four basic steps- walking, side steps, knee lifts, and kicks. The music really gets you into the mood to burn fat! The pace picks up and you start really doing power walking at its best. Leslie integrates arms into the workout, and after about 14-15 minutes, you have finished one mile! The workout gets more intense than ever and the 2nd mile is the fastest mile of them all. Aerobic walking takes over, and Leslie shows us some variation in the arms and the steps, and we move around the room. The walking is very brisk. The third mile comes before you know it, and Leslie shows you new steps like double kick backs, tapping with double side steps, grape vine, and more. The fourth mile also goes by quickly, and before you know it you are cooling down after a great workout! Of course there is stretching.

I recommend this video to everyone- it is really for all ages (there are people in this video that range from 20 to 72!!!). It gets your heart pumping and it really makes you sweat!

5-0 out of 5 stars Leslie Rocks
I've been using Leslie's workout videos for years and I believe the 4 mile super challenge is her best so far. If you're just starting to exercise again or you're out of shape you might want to start with mile 1 or 2 but if you feel that you need a bigger challenge, that is fun and very motivating, mile 4 super challenge is for you. The music helps you keep a fast pace, Leslie's postive attidude keeps you from wanting to quit, and the exercises throughout the program are so simple that anyone with two left feet can do them. I own several of the Walk Away the Pounds videos because I can mix and match the different miles and create my own exercise program. These are wonerful videos and anyone who wants a workout that is challenging but easy to follow should try them in a heartbeat.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME workout - my favorite of all WATPs!
This is a pure walking workout; i.e., no "accoutrements" like bands or hand weights. Very similar to the Express 3 Mile in terms of the music, the set and the group of walkers (but the 3 Mile uses the stretch bands). Loved the music--very hip and dancey, like club music, which I love. I have done this workout 2 or 3 times so far and it is fantastic. "Joyful" is the word that came to mind when I was doing it. The miles go by so fast, there was never a point where I was thinking "OH GAWD, when are we getting to the next mile?!" I MUCH prefer this to the older 4-mile WATP I have which has SOOOO much repetition of the same movement that I get exhausted and annoyed at the same time. This one gets a big THUMBS UP from me!

5-0 out of 5 stars power walk
This is a nice long workout pretty low impact a wonderful workout for all ages i would reccomend this to all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This exercise video is perfect for someone who does not like to exercise! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This workout is exciting and motivating
I have over 50 exercise Videos & DVD's and this one is the best! The great instructor & brazilian music (live band) are upbeat & really makes you want to move! Vannessa breaks down the moves so that they are learnable and then goes through them in a set together. Before I knew it I was able to dance, (even with my two left feet). It's also terrific because the participants in the video are normal everyday people. I would recommend this workout to people that want to be entertained and have fun while they work out. Also, this video worked muscles I didn't realize needed working out. I hope they make more videos like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great major calory burn workout with a lot of fun!
This is by far the best video workout I have owned. I LOVE doing it!!! Her personality is amazing. She is very uplifting and makes you want to dance. The moves are funky and fun to follow, "funky chicken" cracks me up ;-) by the end of workout I can FEEL how my body is melting the fat away.
I strongly recomend it to anyone who is trying to loose weight and have fun at the same time. I have already lost several pounds by doing this video plus walking for 30 minutes every day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for all shapes & sizes
I tried this work-out once and was hooked! I use it on alternating days between high intensity kickboxing work-outs. But don't get me wrong-- you WILL get your heart rate up and you WILL sweat. You'll just feel really good doing it! The difference is that this is a work-out for ALL fitness levels since the movements can be adapted to your own body's needs or comfort level. The best part of this work-out is how you feel doing it. Since you're learning and dancing to incredible live music, you hardly notice how much of a full body work-out you're getting.

By the 3rd or 4th time you use the work-out you'll have learned most of the basic movements so you can just really DANCE and have fun! Its a great low-impact work-out for almost anyone who wants to really dance. I'm even buying a copy for my mother for her birthday this year!

4-0 out of 5 stars Brazilian Dance Workout
I really enjoyed this workout. I do a lot of weight training and Tae Bo, so I wanted something a bit more feminine that would still work up a sweat. This was it! The dancers are regular people, the rhythm is contagious, and even though it takes doing it a few times to get the moves down, it's worth the effort. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it doesn't burn as many calories as Tae Bo, and I would like to find a dance-based workout that does. However, even if you're a beginner, this is a great cardio workout!

5-0 out of 5 stars Moves for the Unmovable
I ran this tape for the first time tonight. I am 80 lbs. overweight and haven't had such a great time moving in 20 years! It's fabulous, sexy, fun and a godsend for me. If you need help and motivation getting yourself moving again, try this one! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Beyond
Classic Pilates sets the standard by which I see all other Pilates DVDs. As a certified instructor, I know that Joseph Pilates created a very clear and organized exercise system. He also wrote books that established a philosophy of health to give his exercise system even more substance.

I am a fan of Classical Pilates because their work shows ultimate respect for remaining true to Joseph Pilates' workouts and philosophy. I purchased this comprehensive 3 hour 2-DVD Reformer video from Classical Pilates (before it was available on Amazon) and it definitely goes beyond all expectations by expertly demonstrating workouts with beautiful strength and articulation. Classical Pilates brings it all together with some of the best Pilates professionals in the business today.

There are two distinct basic Reformer workouts on this video, which is very instructive, because they show how you can start the method differently from the very beginning. These two basic Reformer workouts also show how different types of skills can be accomplished with the same exercises. Then on to intermediate level, advanced level, and even super advanced level. There is also a phenomenal exposition of archival exercises that I have never seen.

The camera work is wonderful in this Reformer video. You really feel the movement of the demonstrators as you watch it. And it feels great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular
As an instructor, I highly recommend this Classical Pilates DVD for beginning through advanced clients. Understanding the flow and order of the exercises in each Reformer workout, as well as the nuances involved in performing the exercises correctly, can take years to comprehend. Classical Pilates' DVDs illustrate these points clearly and succinctly. The section of archival exercises is more of an exhibition than a workout, but it is the crowning glory of the method and this DVD. Congratulations to Classical Pilates for a spectacular presentation of the original Pilates method of body conditioning.

5-0 out of 5 stars For All Students & Teachers
I've studied the Pilates method for a few years, and became certified through the Stott training program. After going to a couple of Pilates conventions, where people from different schools attend, someone suggested that I buy this Classical Pilates video. I had heard of the classical style or classical approach, but I didn't know much about it. Stott Pilates is good, but we learn different exercises and different movement speeds compared to this video.

This Reformer video opened my eyes, and my mind, about the classical approach to Pilates. The exercises are precise and they flow energetically from one to another without interruption. The practitioners execute their routines with wonderful movement qualities. After seeing this video, I wanted to learn more. So I decided to study with someone who trained in this tradition. The experience has been great!

I'm thankful that I found this video. It has enlightened me about the Pilates method, and I use the master teacher's verbal cues to improve my workouts.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is Authentic Pilates
If you are looking for authentic Pilates with seriously beautiful and skillful practitioners, as well as solid instruction, this DVD is for you.

I'm happy to have 'graduated' from using the small home "Performer" that I bought on QVC, to getting a full studio Reformer. I was so inspired by this DVD that I decided to take private lessons from a certified Pilates instructor. Using this piece of Pilates equipment literally changed my body and improved my strength.

Now I alternate between doing a Pilates mat workout 2-3 times each week, and practicing on the Reformer. This is a fabulous combination.

This is a 3 hour 2-DVD set. Although I will never, ever, get to advanced and super advanced routines, these are splendid to watch. Pilates, I see now, can go on forever!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Equipment Is Great
This DVD shows exercise routines on the Pilates Reformer exercise machine. Although Pilates mat exercise routines are a great way to stay in shape, Joseph Pilates invented equipment that gives you his total philosophy of health. By using Pilates equipment WITH the mat floor exercises, your flexibility and strength increase in many ways.

Since I'm an instructor, I have searched the market for available videos on Joseph Pilates method. This equipment video is head and shoulders above the others. Honestly, I wish everyone would work out on Pilates equipment, in addition to the mat. I know, I know, Pilates can be expensive. But I feel that it's better to invest in your health and well-being than to pay for doctors and medication if you let your health deteriorate.

I recommend for everyone to "Get Pilates!" ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great workout that doesn't feel like a workout!
I loved these workouts! They're so easy to do and though you don't feel it immediately, you DO get results! I lost 8 inches in 1 month, more than 3 of those from my waist!!! The Accelerated Body Sculpting is a routine that is hard to put off.First of all, you're laying on the floor, which is quite relaxing.Second, you can make it easier or harder and even if you only do half the video, you're getting benefits. If I'm too tired to get to the gym or outside for a walk, I substitute Winsor Pilates and I feel just as good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginner/intermediate
Mari Winsor's 3-DVD set is a great set of workouts for beginners and intermediates.By alternating the 2 workouts, I increased my strength and flexibility as well as my control.I also felt the difference in my abs after only a few sessions.Obviously if you are experienced in pilates these workouts may not do anything for you (although her other workouts available on the Winsor Pilates website are very effective for the more experienced). But if you are relatively new to pilates or are a bit familiar with it, you should find these workouts to be challenging and beneficial.Mari Winsor is excellent about talking you through the workouts and is constantly reminding you of the importance of correct positions and processes. The trick with this program is to be consistent and remember that pilates is meant to sculpt your body and increase flexibility and strength. Losing weight requires a healthy diet and other activity like walking or jogging to burn the calories!Do those things and add Mari Winsor's program and you will have the whole package!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Thrilled
After seeing the Winsor Pilates infomercials on TV and trying Winsor's previous videos, I thought this could be a good 3 DVD set. Daisy Fuentes is attractive, but I'm old enough to remember that commercial "Where's the beef?" That's kind of how I felt. These 'eye candy' DVDs are professionally made but I didn't get the best workout.

3-0 out of 5 stars Alright
This DVD set is alright, but I liked Pilates for Dummies, Pilates for Everyone, and Classical Pilates DVDs better. I've seen some of the infomercials for Winsor, and I think the other videos are more authentic, more real, more traditional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazed at the Results I've gotten!!
I've tried different Pilates DVD's and Mari Winsor's are by far the best!! I've lost 25lbs just doing her 20 minute Workout!! And I've lost another 10lbs doing her Accelerated Body Sculpting intermittently with the 20 minute Workout!! And the moves were easy and fun!! I'm so toned now, I'm amazed at my results!! And my flexibility has improved so much, too!! A great investment for your body!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this Video !!!!!
I've tried many work out tapes but the problem was that many require alot of space, alot of time, very physical movements and after a while didn't hold my attention.

I was skeptical at first about just walking to work out, but it is more than just walking. It's a combo of easy/natural leg work (kicking), arm work, light weights, and brisk walking. The system I ordered which has 1,2& 3 mile walk is perfect! I have a choice of what intensity I want to work out based on how fit I feel & how much time I have on my hands. I started out with the 1 mile, which is a nice short 20mins workout. This is also perfect for those days I feel lazy & just want to do something short or those days where I don't have a lot of time & want to do something quick for the day. The movements are easy (kicks, knee lifts, hand swings, etc.)to follow (I can follow the video on my computer & watch TV at the same time)and the people they use on the video are diverse & fun to work out with. It is a perky crowd & I enjoy the light bantering Leslie has with them.
I'm also happy there are no floor exercises which require space & is just a pain to do sometimes. I was looking for a non-jarring workout to use while I was pregnant and this system was perfect. You can adjust your movements with the video from a full range motion (high kicks, small kicks, use weights or no weights, etc.)or to tiny motions to fit your own physical needs. I am very happy with the video and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something simple & fun to use everyday. I just bought the DVD & then bought my own hand weights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Feel the burn
I don't enjoy exercising. At all. None. It's my least favorite thing to do. But this DVD almost makes it fun. It's a very easy workout to follow along with, and it doesn't last too terribly long. I agree with other reviewers that Lesley is a little chatty, but she's not that bad, and you can tune it out after a few workouts.

I've been doing the 1- and 2-mile workouts for almost 3 weeks now. I haven't lost much weight yet, but I have noticed an increase in my energy level and a slight difference in my muscle tone. I'm hoping to move up to the 3-mile workout in the next week or so.

It's a miracle that I've stuck with it for this long--and that says a lot about this video!

5-0 out of 5 stars best workout video Ive tried ever
I have about 30 different workout videos Ive collected over time, and I am in intermediate shape,I am a nurse and I had female surgery, some months ago and found this dvd @ the library..I loved it so much I have purchased the 4 mile walk. As I become more fit Ive added heavier wieghts, Ive lost 15lbs in 2 months, and I am now working on my last 10lbs Im feeling like my old self again I cant recamend this enough.. accept to say get a few so you can mix them up a bit or hit mute and add your own music ....CUDDLES to Leslie Im lovin these dvds....

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Easy
Great dvd. Just started the 1 mile & love it! I already have more energy! Can't wait to start the 2 mile!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly customisable and good work out.
I've had these tapes since last November. I started them during
the rainy cold months. I have very little room and really like the fact that the routine is simple/basic and does not require a lot of room. I've never listened them however.
I tried and she was a little too chatty, which is fine but I prefer to crank up my stereo and listen to tunes I prefer. So I mute the DVD and listen to my favorite music. I also use 3 pound weights through out the work outs.
My arms look great as a result. I've gone from 150 to 132 pounds in 8 months. So the pounds didn't exactly melt away but I've not been too good about dieting either. So this is pretty good considering that. I probably would have lost more if I had been on a diet through out. I also recently started jogging & walking 3 to 4 times a week when the weather is good. But these tapes are a great addition to those workouts. I do the 2 mile dvd 3 to 4 times a week in the mornings. And, when the weather is bad and I can't walk/jog I do the 3 mile dvd in the afternoon. I've recommended these tapes to a few friends but they're not the "work out to fitness video types" and complain about not enough room/complicated moves etc. If I could get them to try these, I'm sure they would like them. I have tons of exercise videos but these are the ones I've done the longest. Because they give a good work out and because they're easy to follow and not boring. I like that they are simple enough that you can follow them without needing to listen to them. I also like
that I can customize them by adding the weights earlier than she does and by simply using heavier weights. Also the moves themselves are customizable and easy enough to do.

I'm glad I found these fitness videos. They've helped me stay consistent in my workout efforts and helped me lose some weight as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT DVD!!!
I've been working out hard for almost 6 months and I found this dvd to be very challenging. I use dvd's in my workout almost daily, and I have a lot of them. I will have to say that this is my new favorite. Tamilee is a good instructor and the exercises really are effective. There is a lot on this dvd too. There are 3 sections (Abs, Arms, and Buns), and each section has two 16 minute segments. I've been doing the Buns workout at least twice a week and boy does it "get" your buns along with your legs too. It's a great workout.

The only thing I think could be better is the arms section. I say that only because I am trying very hard to build my arms, I want definition. The speed that Tamilee goes on this section makes it impossible to use really heavy weights. But, for toning and tightening, it's a good workout.

My favorite dvd before this one was the QF Total Mix (which I still love), but I'll have to say that this workout is much more intense than that one and I would highly recommend it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great DVD - Perfect if You're Pressed for Time
I was a little hesitant about buying this DVD. Tamilee, after all, is the "Buns of Steel" lady, which connoted a certain amount of cheesiness. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a total of 6 excellent workouts (2 each for abs, arms, and buns); very nice production values; and NO hokey southern belle yakking away ad nauseum. Tamilee encourages without being overbearing, and educates without being too talkative. (The DVD sound option also lets you do the workout with music only - nice feature.) She has a great, athletic figure, and perfect form, so watching her do standard exercises makes you realize (and feel) that you may have been doing them wrong in the past. She also throws in new exercises that are challenging and effective, without being so difficult as to frustrate. All you need to do these 15-minute workouts is a mat (if you have no carpet), handweights (she uses 5 lbs. but you can use more or less), and a chair. Overall, this was a great surprise and a very useable DVD that I can grow with. I'm extremely happy with this purchase - which is rare considering how much junk there is on the exercise video market!

4-0 out of 5 stars With Tamilee, you KNOW you are working out!!!
I felt this DVD was a great value because it contains THREE workouts (abs, arms and buns) on one DVD plus each workout is done at 2 skill levels so you can choose how hard you want to work on a given day. Each body is different, so you might be at level 1 on one bodypart and on level 2 for another. For example, I can get through both the level 1 and 2 arms workout (with 2-pound weights) but am not even close to being able to get through the level 1 abs workout. I can get through most of the level 1 buns workout but it is kind of tough on the knees with all the lunges (then again, I am over 50 so this may not be of concern to you if you're 20 or 30). It was clear to everyone in my office that I'd done the Tamilee workout this week because I was walking gingerly! LOL You not only know you're working out WHILE you're doing it but the next day even moreso!

I have a set of 2 lb. weights and a set of 8 lb. weights at home. The arms program is too easy for me with 2 lb. weights and some parts of it are too difficult for me with 8 lb. weights, so I think I will pick up a set of 4 lb. weights and that will be just right for me.

I look forward to the day when I can get through the abs workout without stopping because it is REALLY challenging!

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this DVD!
I have had Tamilee Webb's DVD for over a year, and I still love it. In fact, it is the only workout video I use. I love all of the sections except Part 1 of the buns. I find the lunges hard on my knees, but Part 2 is amazing and makes [me feel] feel great. I do one to three sections, 2-3 times a week, and I feel and look great. Now I am almost 4 months pregnant, and I am barely showing thanks to this DVD. I talked to my doctor and read many books, and was assured that ab work on ones back is possible as long as you don't feel faint at any time. When I get larger I will start doing abs on a ball, but I will continue to use Tamilee Webb's DVD as long as I can. By the way, I am 34. Buy this DVD and you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
The workouts are challenging and effective. Yesterday, I did the 1st arms and ab workout. I am so sore today. I love videos that give you something to work up to. Each body section has 2 workouts, with the 2nd being more challenging. I do not see myself outgrowing this DVD. Tammy is a great instructor. She is very easy to follow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best available!
I also don't understand the one-star rating by one reviewer. I have a graduate degree in exercise science, and many years of experience as a personal trainer (focusing on women & weight/strength training) and I found Kathy's dvds to be outstanding. She provides guidance about proper form in a number of ways with each and every exercise. She often starts a new set with instruction (verbally & by demo'ing herself) the right form without any weights in hand - sometimes also by using a smaller version of the movement first and gradually easing into full range of motion. For example, with her squats series - first you do some reps with no weights and by only squatting a little ways down, then a few deeper squats, and finally a few full squats. Throughout these "warm-up" squats, the screen shots include front & side views of Kathy's strict form which really is correct. THEN you pick up your handweights if you want to use them and move into the actual squats sets. On top of that, Kathy also walks amongst the men & women working out on screen with her, stopping to comment on specific aspects of their form, which enables you to see proper form frommany different angles, and also demos how "proper" form can in fact look slightly different with different body types, and/or with modified versions of some exercises.

In addition to all the above, she also includes verbal reminders along the way ("make sure your knees are tracking over your toes... chest up, neck relaxed..." etc). I found her verbal cues about form to be just the right amount - enough to help you ensure your own proper form, but not so constant you wish she'd just shut up. :)

These DVDs, especially #2, have everything you'd need for a very intense & effective upper & lower body strength training routine. At the same time, they are great for beginners who are new to any sort of weight training. The primary difference will be the amount of weight you use with each exercise. And Kathy even provides guidance about that as well - "your muscle should be fatigued by the time you've done 8-12 reps - if not, you can increase to more weight..." She also makes a point of mentioning when she herself is using a lighter or heavier dumbbell from one exercise to another. Your increases/decreases might not always follow hers - amt of weight or even +/- direction - but it should be fairly clear that it's totally normal not to be able to use the same set of dumbbells for every exercise.

I have tried a lot of different weight/strength training videos & dvds. To be honest, I wasn't really sure Kathy's would impress me very much. I was looking for something that would really challenge me, and decided to take a chance since Karen Voight's "great weighted workout" isn't out on dvd yet. I have been extremely pleased with Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight dvds. Vol 2 of LWTLW series has quickly become one of my favorites. With 4 full 20-minute routines (2 upper body, 2 lower body) plus an additional abs workout, you can easily pick one session per day or mix & match for a whole-body workout. And there are many exercises in each lower & upper body routine that also target core strength - something you won't necessarily find in many other strength tapes/dvds (although fyi - Karen Mann's "The Works" box set has some great core strength and "functional strength" exercises too - the kind of strength you use for picking up your child, carrying groceries, climbing ladders to change lightbulbs etc - all those "awkward positions" we all face every day). I highly recommend this series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Timesaver... best weight workout on market!
I highly disagree with the 1-star rater. Regarding her points first, it moves quickly because the strength training is done using a technique called supersetting. You push yourself and then move quickly in between exercises to move to the next exercise. I found her cheering of "four more" highly encouraging.

I myself, am an aerobics instructor. This video is challenging but appropriate for anyone. You choose your level of weights and you can set it down when it gets to be too much. The exercises move quickly so you won't sit around feeling left out if you choose not to do 6 or 7 reps. You'll get right back into it! I love this video. I was dying to find a way to increase my strength training, and this is it! I even have my boyfriend who is a PE teacher do the arms with me and he loves it. There are men on the video and women and I like that. Kathy looks awesome by the way. This is the best video I've done out of the many I own!

5-0 out of 5 stars These DVDS will give you results!!
I don't know how great of shape the 1 star reviewer was in....but these DVDS together are great. True, there is no warm-up on Volume 1, but you simply warm up yourself. Big deal. The point is, the reps are challenging and great for beginners in Volume 1. They tend to feel quick as the workout flies by in no time. There is a great adherence to proper form!! Volume 2 takes it to the next level to really tone the little muscles in your body. Trust me, I own and have tried a plethora of exercise DVDS and these have given me great results. Yes, Kathy Smith is annoying - obviously - but the bottom line is...you will see results and totally feel the burn the next day. For Volume 2, I find the cool downs not long enough, so I simply hit "pause" and cool down a bit more. Exercise DVDS can't be everything to everyone, but if they work, you have to simply modify it for your own needs. These workouts are not 1 star workouts - trust me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Irritating and Unwatchable
First of all this is NOT a workout for beginners. I consider myself to be in good shape and an intermediate at working out, but I was left feeling frequently lost in the dust. The repetitions were too fast without any emphasis on proper form. Kathy also moves too quickly from one exercise to the next without giving you any time to grab your weights. There is no warm-up included, though she advises you to do one before hand. (It's not really a 20 minute workout if she expects you to warm up on your own beforehand.) But what I found most irritating was Kathy constantly barking orders like a drill sergeant to the toned, buff and scantily-clad men and women in the class: "OKAY, GIVE ME FOUR MORE!" and her frequent "whoops." Struck me as almost sado-masochistic.

My favorite weight-training video remains "Strong Women Stay Young" available through the "As We Change" catalogue. It moves much slowly (but no less intensely) with much more attention to proper form and detail. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tolally Nude Aerobics
It gets a four star from me. The girls were gorgeous as well as their bodies! Naked or not. I felt a couple of songs could have been differant, but we all have our own tastes. The background needed some color or something instead of just white. The girls did a great job and seemed to enjoy showing their bodies. I would have enjoyed some more close up shots, but this is an exercise DVD,right? I only hope the producers do another DVD with the same girls or girls that compare to these.
Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best movie for the beauty of body in motion
It is both aesthetic and erotic. If you appreciate the beauty of female body from an intellectual perspective, this is the best choice: Pretty actresses, perfect figures, good photography (with some graphic designs), liberal philosophy (in that there is no forbidden areas in human body and every part is regarded as equally beautiful), and high taste (purely figures in athletic motion without any unnecessary words, background, and body decorations). I cannot say the movie is flawless (there can be improvement on the artistic side and I do not like some close-up views - they are not well designed and they last too long), but it is the best so far for the beauty of human body in motion and I wish to see more of this type of products.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!!
What a great idea! the women in this video are absolutely stunning. this is more of someone who would rather appreciate the beauty of the female figure than getting some sleazy xxx movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Other titles in the series

The "Totally Nude Cooking was okay, but watching her cut vegetables mostly long zuchinis made me think of John Bobbit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video - It helped a lot!
Both my husband and I were unable to attend Lamaze classes due to the fact that we work very different schedules. We were concerned that the pregnancy would be difficult without proper Lamaze instruction. Our doctor recommended "Having Your Baby." She indicated that it was tailor made for expecting mothers who were on bed rest, and for couples such as ourselves. After viewing the tape we were amazed at how detailed and enjoyable the video was. The instruction is wonderfully detailed and presented in a very uplifting manner. The video included full chapters on birth and C-sections, which no other video has. When it was time to have our child, we had no worries that we weren't prepared. This video made my pregnancy and delivery so much easier than I had expected. Thank you for this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Definitely the best video on the subject..."
In searching for the best aid in teaching expectant parents about childbirth, "Having Your Baby" surfaces as the most complete, the most useful, and the most balanced presentation available. As an adjunct to class, or especially for those who cannot get to a class, it beautifully prepares the expectant parents for the labor and birth process. The information is accurate and up to date, and the actual footage of hospital procedure and the birth process is extremely beneficial to see, as well as very tastefully presented. I highly recommend "Having Your Baby" as the best presentation on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laura's Mom
My daughter learned a lot from the video, and so did her friend, Cheryl. In fact on the day that Cheryl started labor (they are both first time moms), Laura brought over the video, and informed her friend that in fact, labor was happening! They both watched it and it helped them a great deal. This video really does a great job. Thanks, Ronnie Hammond.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative but outdated
The information provided was somewhat helpful but the video is so outdated. It's at least 20 years old. It lacks the latest technology and information. It's not worth the price considering how old the video is.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Outdated
After reading the other reviews, I thought it would be a good purchase. My husband travels a lot and I wanted him to be a part of the lamaze training so I ordered this video. It was very poor quality with the sound coming in and out. The information was outdated and the people in it seemed to be out of the 70's. I was very disappointed. There was nothing useful at all on this video. I was able to get more valuable information out of my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book. I would not purchase this! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good intro to basics!
I was not too interested in this DVD at first--mainly because of the title. I thought the yoga workouts would be too basic. Although I'm not as flexible as I'd like to be, I can still do the postures without the props. I'm still a beginner, so the benefit is in the pacing. It's incredibly slow. At first I was frustrated by the slow pace, but then I realized the DVD gives me the perfect opportunity to work on my form in doing each posture. The whole point of yoga (for me) is to relieve tension and not run through poses like an obstacle course, so therein lies the benefit. It forces one to slow down and really contemplate each pose while focusing on the breath and proper form. This is not a DVD for anyone looking for a "power yoga" workout, but the selection of routines is varied and can fill whatever time one has to practice. With sessions ranging from 15 minutes to 75 minutes, viewers can mix and match to fill the time they have. The only negative is in the voiceover--it's a tad too monotonous.

5-0 out of 5 stars What all Yoga DVD's should hope to be
Yoga for Inflexible People has finally done it - detailed instruction, a variety or practices, length and degree of difficulty all on one disc. This would be perfect for the yoga beginner or anyone who wants to have variety and not always go to a class. The instructor is thorough and really explains everything. Listen to her and do what she says! It's moving at a slower pace then some other tapes, but she's taking time to help you perfect the pose and get a better understanding of what your body should be doing and feeling. It's just the right pace for this style of yoga. If you don't have the real yoga props, that's ok, you can make due with things you've got like books, a belt etc. Choose the type of workout you want, the part of your body you want to focus on and the length of workout you want to do. I love being able to customize my practice for what I feel I want or need on any given day. Other tapes and DVD's in my collection don't have that flexibility, and even my yoga class can't do that for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars More Than I Expected, Wonderful, Intelligent Learning Tool
I bought this video last year after seeing a review in the Yoga Journal and based on advice from my instructor as I was starting Yoga. (she uses routines from this DVD in class).

As others have pointed out there are numerous routines in the DVD, and what some people perceive as "minuses" are in my opinion pluses. For instance:

- The introduction in sanskrit for each exercise is short and lasts no more than a few seconds. If you are new to yoga, it is an excellant way to learn the names of the exercises in english and sanskrit

- The use of chairs, walls and props is a benefit to to those of us who are inflexible, and are made as recommendations to assist inflexible people in performing the routines. These are sugestions by the intructor and not always needed if you do not feel you need assistance. The instructor makes that clear.

-There is an extensive variety of routines, and there are many shorter routines to build on. Out of the 30+ routines on the DVD, there are 7 routines or so of 15 - 20 minutes and about another 7 or so of 30 minutes. There is more then enough material to build on, and when you progess, there are many other routines on the DVD.

Perhaps there could be a bit more pep at points, and if you are a more advanced student you may be looking for different things in your workouts.

I was looking to learn yoga properly to increase my flexibility and this DVD is excellant. As the Yoga Journal said (which is above in the editorial reviews along with other publications that rated this DVD highly) this is an intelligent and useful DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
Easy to use and very profesional for every level

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my favorite!
I love this DVD! The beginning background music is very soothing. The narrator has a calming voice to go along with the instuctor's movements. All of the yoga poses are done in a slow, smooth manner. When you have to sit at a desk all day at work, it causes tension, immobility and stiffness in your joints and muscles. This DVD helps to relieve ALL of that for me. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not fun, but challanging
I started exercising daily 8 weeks ago and have been buying different workout routines to try and vary my program. I only workout at home. I like my exercise programs to be challanging and *fun*. This is semi challanging (I never broke a sweat). This is *not* fun. Now, I will preface this by saying I am the type who enjoyed Denise Austins "Pilates for Every Body". I thought that because I liked the standing ballet work that Denise did that I would love this one- more ballet, right! I also enjoy motivational vocal cueing. Even Veena and Neenas "Bellydance" voice over instruction is more enthusiastic than this. Here in NYC Ballet 2, the dancers are expressionless, and the entire instruction is done by a voice over from someone who remains completely monotone the entire video.

They are beautiful.

You may feel challanged (If you do pilates you won't feel challanged- though the exercises on the abs were unique, they work the same sort of core groups as pilates does).

Its dull if you like fun workouts.

Its way too long to have such a monotone speaker.

If I want to be serious, challanged and do mattwork- I will do a pilates routine. If I want to relax, I do yoga. I don't have a place to fit this NYC ballet program in.

If you are someone who wants ballet style toning, ***serious*** and focused on the exercises, you will enjoy this. If you want to have fun while learning ballet moves and enjoy vocal cueing and enthusiasm, you will like Jody Hoegstedt's "Balletone" better- which incorperates ballet style toning with enthusiasm.

But as I said, I am a person who likes motivational, fun cueing. If that doesn't matter to you, and you want to ballet tone with professional dancers you will like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars What this video IS and IS NOT
What it IS:

This video is very good if you have generally performed traditional calisthetics. The ABs section is great and challenging. Its very effective at core strengthing. It's great for people with desk jobs who want to improve their posture - and for joggers who want increase range of motion in the hips, as well as strengthening the core. If you pay CLOSE attention to what the instruction is, you WILL feel a burn. These are not sloppy movements, nor quick. They are subtle, and easy to miss. The dancers go faster because they are experienced, but the beginner will have to take it slow to understand the correct position. Form is of utmost importance in this series and you have to carefully observe the movements to make sure your form is right.

What it's NOT:

This is not a typical exercise DVD nor a ballet instruction video. This is not for dancing, but for general fitness. This video is *not about* dance technique and will not turn you into a dancer. If you are someone who has owned a million aerobics tapes, this one is a very interesting change of pace. If you have never taken ballet, its a refreshing introduction to movement.

The classical music and haughty voiceover may not suit the 'hip' areobics approach, but the movements are good and the video is comprehensive. A good deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars there are two volumes to this series YOU ONLY NEED ONE
I recently bought both DVDs for this series however they are both exactly the same, but with different dancers. you only need One of this series. I will however say that these videos have the best stretching excerises that I have ever done. and this dvd offers you the option of choosing how you want your work out to progress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout!
I have had this DVD for months but I just now started doing the workout and I love it. It is very innovative as far as workout DVDs go. You can program your own sequence of exercises in whatever order you like. Although I have not yet mastered the ballet moves, I am confident with a little more practice I will be keeping up with the dancers on the dvd. The glossary of moves on the dvd also is very helpful in getting the form of each move down correctly. I also like the options of classical or modern music and although I am not ready for it yet, the option of no verbal words and just music will be so nice when I am a "pro" and don't need the verbal cues or instruction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Workout
I ordered this item expecting a good ballet workout, and that's what I got. This workout focuses mostly on strength, balance, control, and flexibility, but there is also a segment at the end that contains a more aerobic workout.

If you have ever taken a ballet class, and you enjoyed it, then this would be good for you. However, I'm not sure I would recommend it for people who have never taken a ballet class. Without prior training, it might be more difficult to catch on, but after a few times I'm sure that a beginner would catch on. Some of the ballet terms used are not fully explained during the workout, but there is a video glossary that should explain the terms if you are unfamiliar.

This DVD might also not be appropriate if your goal is to lose weight. It's not designed for quick fat-burning.

One good and rather unique feature of this DVD is the ability to design your own program. You can choose and arrange the different elements of the workout in any order that you want, making it however long you want it to be, and focusing on whichever areas of the body you want. It's really cool. ... Read more
