5-0 out of 5 stars Your best weapon against overeating!
This video is GREAT! I had gotten into very bad junk food eating habits that seemed addictive in nature. I simply could not resist certain junk foods and felt powerless to change. I know that subliminal programming works having used it to pass a difficult securities exam with flying colors!

It is very hard to change habits consciously -- because it is the unconscious that drives all our behavior. Also I did not want to have to calorie count and be obsessed with diets which is what happens on traditional programs. I was pleased to see this videoon amazon and ordered it and 30 days later I am losing weight! Just the other day a friend noticed the changes. I do not weigh because I tend to lose inches before pounds and in the first month I lost an inch off my measurements. I am 50 years old and female so women in my age group can appreciate how hard it is to loose weight at our age.

The video is very relaxing and as described and the music (unlike some other programs) is easy to listen to. I watch the video every night before going to sleep and it relaxes me. I play the tape more than is recommended as I like the carefree nature of it. Even my cat got up to drink water after viewing the bubbly water affirmation!

BEST OF ALL I know longer feel the same desire towards food. I am making better choices and have stopped snacking at nite and in general am avoiding fatty, sugary foods automatically. This is the exact outcome I wanted from this video! I wanted to automatically do the right thing with food without thinking about it too much (I use the food pyramid as a general guide to make sure I get all the food groups in each day. I feel better when I eat this way. I am not a believer in totally eliminating carbs.) Having said that I tend to eat alot of carbs and am now replacing starchy carbs with fruits and veges.

If you want to lose weight and do it simply and automatically this is the video to get! It's a steal at this price for what it does. If you've had hard times with weight loss there is hope for you. Buy this video. You won't be disappointed.

P.S. I bought my 82 year old stressed out aunt another video by this author on stress and it is helping her slow down and be more relaxed. My aunt has been a go-go person all her life and is already benefitting from mr. murphy's approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Buy it if you want to lose weight! It works!
I have been watching this video every three days and listening to the audiotape every other day. A remarkable thing just happened to me about a minute ago! My kids were eating DQ for lunch and I took a bite of the Snickers Blizzard. It tasted horrible! I couldn't even swallow it! Snickers Blizzard has been my ultimate favorite treat since I got my first job working at a DQ 16 yrs. ago. After three weeks of following this program I have lost 12 lbs. and I couldn't handle my favorite treat! I am a firm believer in this program now and will recommend this program to everybody I know! - friends, family, clients, strangers...EVERY body!

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Info on Program
A review dated April 8th, titled "boring" needs to be clarified so this will not happen again. First of all if you fall asleep during the program, there is not a need to queue it up and start it over. Your unconscious mind will continue to hear the message while you are asleep. So please, if this does happen, do not keep starting the program over; you are finished for the day. I understand why the anonymous reviewer was bored, anybody would be bored under those circumstances. As for the phrasing of the messages, they were developed and structured specifically for your unconscious mind, so do not worry if the phrasing sounds funny to your conscious mind. The various scenes of running water are intentional. The running water scenes and the sound of water are the most effective way to hide and blend the subliminal messages so they can enter your unconscious mind.

The program is not a magic bullet (though some people claim it is). But many, many thousands of people have had results with the program and that's why it continues to sell well and is recommend by friends, to friends. Everybody is unique and will have different results just like any other program and of course the results will depend how you adhere to the instructions. On occasion, people do not lose weight the first month, and it takes a few months after the initial program of 3-day reinforcements to start having results. There are instructions in the beginning of the program that cover all of the above and more, so please take the time to listen and read them several times before you start the program.

And in closing, this is a stand-alone program, but you can use it in conjunction with any exercise and/or diet.

Please feel free to contact me any questions on the program

5-0 out of 5 stars Friend Happy with Program
I have now bought most all of Steve Murray's videos, dvds and books. I did not need this program for myself, but bought it for a friend as a gift. She has lost over 19 pounds and counting. Needless to say she is very happy because she has tried many programs with little results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Program was Effective!
I used the program and found it very effective for me, I lost weight. I was leary at first, but thought what the heck I spend more on pizza a couple times a week, and if it worked even a little bit, it would pay for itself by eating less pizza lol.
I guess like anything other program, people sometimes will have mixed results, but for me it worked. Now I just do the program 3 days every month or so to keep me on track.
I would say give the program a try and see what happens.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good speed, great instruction!
While other reviewers may have found this workout too fast, I like the speed of this DVD. It's similar to the speed of transitions in other power yoga videos and ashtanga yoga classes I've taken. I also think this is a great workout for new (but not brand new) yogis. I've been practicing yoga for about 6 months, and I find the sun salutations at the beginning make me break a sweat. During the remainder of the workout, I have time to get into each pose, focus on it for a few breaths, and then move to the next pose.

I also LOVE the level of detail Rodney Yee gives for each pose. It's really easy to do poses wrong when you learn from a video, because there's no one to correct you, but Rodney Yee gives great instructions throughout the workout. He also consistently tells you when to breathe, which is key in yoga.

The only reservation I have about this is the overly-formal instructor voice-over. While some people may like this format (so there's no instructor talking, chatting, and joking while demonstrating the poses), I find it disconcerting to have a disembodied voice tell me to "bring your sacrum to your pelvis." ... My what? I had to look up sacrum to figure out what he was talking about, and even after I did that I couldn't figure out how to bring it closer to my pelvis. A few less formal tips would be helpful. Also, I usually like instructors' chattiness, because it gives me the illusion that other people are doing yoga with me. I definitely miss that in this DVD.

Overall, though, this is a great DVD, and a good workout for the near-beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Power Yoga Workout - EXCELLENT Quality
I purchased this dvd after reading several reviews. I was looking for a challenging workout, as I've been practicing yoga for about 5 years now. I've been taking ashtanga classes about once a week and going to bikrams classes on and off so I think I have a pretty good experience level. This dvd definitely wasn't one of the most challenging workouts I've done but it was excellent for a dvd. I read the other reviews for this one and I think there is something to be said if you are a beginner. Most yoga dvds are out to try and create a workout for everyone so they do gear towards beginners more by having extra instruction and guidance. I don't think this is the case with this workout, it's really more for intermediate levels. You have to have some sense of proper alignment and where you are at in your practice. I think if I had tried this when I first began I could have gotten hurt because I didn't know how much to push. I really liked the fact that this workout was over an hour, most yoga dvds are about a half an hour, barely enough to really get a workout. I also found that I was incredibly relaxed after this workout. I did this right before going to work and I felt fantastic for the rest of the day. I'd recommend this to anyone except the absolute beginner, it's a must for your collection!

1-0 out of 5 stars Aerobics & Yoga? PLEASE!!!
Having practicing yoga for years (not only the exercises, but also the philosophy), I didn't care for this DVD at all. IF you want an aerobics DVD, then by all means get it! I felt the tape lacked in safety (especially when it comes to your back, and DEFINITY NOT for anyone who's ever had back problems.) The warnings are occasionally there, but are usually seem to have been throw in as an afterthought, and at times after doing something that could have caused serious problems. It also lacks the basic principals of yoga & seems to have used to "Yoga" name and a few poses (which are not executed correctly) to promote an aerobics programs that I feel lacks in safety & in common sense health principals... IF you are interested in Yoga, or even really in your health, this DVD is NOT for you! I'd strongly recommend either viewing Patricia Patrick's shows on PBS,buying her tapes which are available through Amazon.com "Priscillas Yoga Maintenance Routine" and "Ready,Set,Stretch" , or waiting for her DVDs to come out very soon!!!

I have used this video and was seriously unimpressed... IF you want a cross between yoga and aerobics, try some Tai Chi - you'll get better results and I believe will be a lot safer.. some of the 'bouncing' in this video can do serious harm to people IMHO.

4-0 out of 5 stars Speedy yoga
Yeah, ok...so I'm not exactly as flexible as Rodney, but I found the pace a bit fast. This is definitely for the more advanced yoga-sters and it will give you a work out. Also, if you have a bad back or previous injury, watch out for some of the more strenuous "rolling" poses. I found it difficult to get in the breathing, which is the most important part of yoga. I like the routine though. Several of the poses are repeated so if you mess up the first one (or feel a bit wobbly), you have a chance to tighten up. By the end of the hour-long session, you will feel very relaxed and you will have earned the gallon of water you will consume. So kudos to Rodney for a great workout routine, but I may need to pause it now and then.

Has anyone else had trouble accessing the chapters on this dvd?
The workout itself is great, just having technical problems. It isn't my dvd player cause other dvds work fine. Any advice? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good workout tape
I used this tape when I first purchased back in 1992, and lost 30 lbs during a reasonable time period. The workouts tend to be a little fast, especially when you first start, but you can pause the tape and go at your own pace, or as Cindy mentions to do as many reps as you feel comfortable doing. The big positive about this video is the importance of drinking water during workouts, and working out all parts of the body. The music used fits well with the workout and is energizing. I am again using this video, using both workouts (on alternating days). I like the two workouts because it provides variety and keeps me motivated to exercise. A little sore at first, but over time keeping with the workouts the soreness lessens, and you see results in energy, tone and weight loss. Of all the workout tapes I've tried, this one is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Call Cindy a Whimp!
I bought this tape when I was 21 and ten years later I still can't seem to part with it. I just dusted it off recently after four years, two babies and nursing the last one for two years (whew)! So naturally I have a few pounds to lose and some firming up to do. I made it to about the middle of the toning section for the legs and couldn't believe how out of shape I really was. There was a time that I could do both 45 min routines back to back 3 days a week (you definitely need to alternate with a cardio routine on other days-this is strictly a "body shaping" tape)! I love this workout, it does get the job done and Cindy doesn't sugar coat anything about getting there either. I believe that this tape is safe so long as you have a good understanding of making modifications in some of the exercises and doing the abs section in a more controlled manner(which works the abs better anyway). The music and scenery is wonderful, too. I definitely got my money's worth on this video. And I hope to be doing those 45 min routines back to back again!

5-0 out of 5 stars This WORKS!
I have never understood the poor reviews this video has recieved. I have suffered numerous back and knee injuries in the past (while kickboxing and skiing) and have never had any problems with this routine. I have been doing this workout since it debuted in 1992! I have, however, injured myself while using other well-reviewed exercise videos such as Tamilee Webb's Tighter Assets CardioBlast (which is HELL on the knees!). I suppose that any workout or sport activity can be unsafe for anyone with pre-existing conditions, and it is a person's responsibility to work-out SAFELY, and only within their personal limits. My only criticism is that her form does need a little improvement - and could possibly be a bad influence on someone who is inexperienced at exercise. But these moves can be easily done safely and effectivly, with great results! I still think this is one of the best home exercise videos I've done - and boy, have I tried a few! I recently ordered a new DVD because I wore the old tape out! And unlike MANY other highly-recommended videos... you will see results FAST!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible form; dangerous to your back & knees!
Run, don't walk, from this video, before you get hurt using it! There are so many well-done, challenging, safe videos on the market that there is no excuse to follow a bad, irresponsibly-made video like this one. Crawford's form on some of the exercises is not only awful, but potentially very harmful to backs and knees; Radu, the trainer who devised & supervised the workout, and who should know better, sells us a very unsafe workout. Given the well-documented problems with this program, it's astonishingly irresponsible that it was ever reissued.

I wrecked my knees doing what Crawford demonstrates: allowing the knees to come way out over the ankles. Now, after working with a physical therapist and a knowledgeable trainer--and reading extensively about the knee joint--I know that the knees should not move past the ankles while doing squats & lunges, but I didn't know it when using this video, and I copied Crawford's movements, never dreaming that her trainer would have her doing unsafe moves. Wrong! I have had terrible knee pain in both knees as a result of using this tape. Using strict form and care (in other words, not using this tape), my knees are gradually improving. But this expensive, activity-limiting, painful injury was totally preventable!

If you didn't see this review, please read what a 15-year-old reviewer named LW wrote on 12-03-03, entitled "Good...But Not Good For Your Back": "Because of this workout, I have developed a bad back- and I'm only fifteen! I can't and don't want to do this tape ever again because ever since the first time I used it a year ago, my back hasn't been the same....I like the video overall but it unfortunately killed my back." Why on earth did this poor young girl give the video 4 stars and say that she "like[d] the video overall"?! I regret having to give the darn thing 1 star--it deserves none.

If you want a lifetime of healthy exercising, then choose instructors who are scrupulous about using correct form. They deserve your time, money, and sweat--*not* the bunch who made this video. There is no excuse for poorly-done, sloppy videos like this one being on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just A Great Work!
I'm 24 year old and I've been doing this workout since I was 13. There is no other workout that could make me lose weight and look great! Something more - the result came much faster than I expected. I've been doing traditional aerobics, and more other useless stuff and the only result was in gaining big and really looking FAT muscles mostly on my thighs. For all those 9 years I have no injuries at all. When I bought The Next Challenge I started combining these two workouts and felt even better. So don't even read the editors' reviews - I don't even think that anybody of them has tried this workout. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great for the Beginner and out of shape
This is a wonderful tape for all of us who are out of shape and no longer limber.
Peggy targets those of us who want to get started but cannot keep up with the tapes designed for the already physically fit.
It is broken into 3 sections so even the most out of shape can do at least the first part.
My 79 year old mother did the first 20 minutes of this tape with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent yoga video
This is an excellent yoga video. It is easy to follow with good instruction and it is versatile for various body types and abilities. Highly recommend this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect introduction course for beginners!
For a student of the Indian classical dance like me, this DVD proved quite helpful, especially the breathing instructions, although I would prefer to see some more spiritual explanations (yoga is not aerobics, after all!), and the psychological meaning and effect of the postures.
Peggy Cappy's presentation is very clear, and covers the basics. I particularly liked the Sun Salutations series, as these are practised by all professional Bharatanatyam dancers, who have to produce rather complex postures. I know I will never be as flexible and as agile as the young professional dancers, and I will hardly ever dance as effortlessly and gracefully as Medha Hari in her DVD, but Peggy Cappy's excercises will make you stay fit and healthy, if this is what really matters for an amateur dancer like me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
This was a wonderful discovery that has really transformed my entire life. It proved to be much more useful to me than the Pilates Beginning Mat Workout and the Living Yoga tapes I had gotten because I used to be fairly glued to the couch due to my weight. But this low-impact and low-stress approach to physical fitness has really created a whole new world for me to live my life in now with tremendous opportunities for self-expression and fulfillment. With this as a building block for physical change, I was able to move onto a great new diet approach with South Beach, and subsequently my husband and I found new sparks in our intimate life with the aid of the magnificent "New Sex Now" video training -- an experience that really got our hearts pounding like never before. All of these life-transforming products come with heartfelt thanks and the highest recommendations. Life is too short to waste it sitting on a couch watching the world pass you by. Do something to make your world a better place!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga with a Chair
I saw Peggy Cappy on Public Television during the December 2003 fund drive. I was impressed with her ability to teach yoga to a diverse group of students. The class is primarily attended by persons over the age of 50 years that have limited mobility. Peggy uses chairs to enable students to stay safely on their feet while attempting unfamiliar ways of moving their bodies. The video covers most of the basic standing poses (tree, triangle, warrior I and II, downward facing dog, upward facing dog as well as a simple sun salutation). this is a must have for yoga teachers and for all others that have joint stiffness, limited mobility (because of age, infimity or weight). She has said it most aptly, Yoga for every body. ... Read more

The importance of the breath is familiar to anyone who practices yoga, as is its significance in the pursuit of a deeper, more meditative state. But it never hurts to be reminded of that connection, especially as yoga's growing popularity has turned it in a more active, less contemplative direction. The title of this DVD program pretty much describes the content; it consists of two approximately 30-minute sections, one ("Conscious Relaxation") devoted to several easy, relaxation-inducing poses and the other ("Conscious Breahing") focusing entirely on the breath itself. (Also included are an 8-minute "guided meditation" and an interview with instructor Rodney Yee.) It's unlikely that you'll break a sweat, and you won't "go for the burn," as yoga practitioners seem intent on doing these days--but you might reach a place of stillness that's considerably more profound. Note: The use of certain props (mat, blanket, pillow, chair) is recommended. --Sam Graham ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very relaxing...
This is a great DVD if you're looking for deep relaxation and some breathwork. Rodney Yee has a soothing voice, is very knowledgeable, and provides good imagery to help you get in touch with your breath. The DVD is broken into 2 segments, one with relaxing yoga poses and one with breathwork, which is nice if you don't have a ton of time to practice or want to work specifically on one or the other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for release and relaxation
Outstanding guded relaxation and breathing for stress release. With a home BP monitor my blood pressure can be reduced from 20 to 40 points after using this DVD. I start at the Relaxation Pose (prone position) and continue on to all of the breathing exercises for a great 40 minutes of relaxation. I know nothing of Yoga and there are no cross legged positions in this, though Rodney Yee does use them, they are not a part of the routines. The person who said there are no sub menus must be referring to the VHS tape (which I have) because the DVD has an excellent series of menus and sub menus and you can start exactly where you want. Have no difficulty with focus as another reviewer does, besides, once you've run through the DVD once for a visual, you have your eyes closed all the time anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional meditation practice
This is a wonderful practice. You have your choice of three different relaxation techniques and three different breathing practices. You can do individually or mix them. I had previously said there were no submenus on this DVD (I was referring to a different Yee DVD). This one is lovely. The menu choices are exceptional! Other people producing DVDs could learn from this example. This is well worth the money and you can use this practice over and over again to gain insight into your own being. Enjoy!

See my other dvd reviews on amazon. thanks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good content, poor quality
I'm not sure if it's just my copy of the DVD, but the video quality is rather poor. Slightly out of focus in general and extremely blurry in many areas. But since I don't really look at the screen as I follow along with my practise, it only really bothered me the first time I watched it all the way through. Content-wise, it's really excellent and I found it very easy to follow with clear explanations at every step. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning Tool!!
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great alternative or supplement to their formal instruction in T'ai Chi. Bill Douglas' teaching approach makes learning and appreciating this wonderful internal martial art fun. I wish I had stumbled across this many many years ago, as I had always been interested in T'ai Chi, but good instructors are difficult to find in my area.

Anthology of T'ai Chi & Qigong: The Prescription for the Future
has been my answer and when you read the book, and also watch the DVD or Video as an additional supplement, it is obvious the time and effort and professionalism that has gone into the making of this production.

My life has been enriched by this book. As the material teaches, T'ai Chi is a lifelong learning process and, for me, this has been great place to start. Many, many thanks to Bill Douglas for sharing his experience with the rest of us!

1-0 out of 5 stars Insulting Series
I have not read this book.
It is not the content that I'm one staring. (neologizing permitted?) I will not read any book that implies that I'm an idiot. Of course I won't read those books for people that can't speak either. Now the question is; Is it elitism, or do I have some modicum self-esteem? Enquiring minds anyone?

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what we need
I'm a big fan of Bill Douglas's work. When I began looking into Tai Chi, I first picked up Bill's Book and thought it was great. It explained things in very simple terms and defined the ideas very well. I've been mostly working on my Tai Chi alone do to my crazy schedule & lifestyle and its is difficult at best. As soon as I saw this DVD set I grabbed it right up and it has reinvigorated my playing. Bill has single handily opened the doors of Tai Chi to millions around the globe and we are all in great debt to him. I couldn't be happier with this DVD, or recommend it with more enthusasum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in it's Field! Perfect for Beginners & Refining Moves
I practice outside, so don't use the DVD daily, but sure is nice to review and refine movements or check out the next movement whenever I feel ready to! Have tried other styles on VHS, but this version and the way it is presented, is MUCH easier to pick up, and very relaxing. Still have a way to go, but now I can improve on movements and correct breathing by reviewing even the earlier lessons. Our instructors say, "It took the Chinese 400 years to develop T'ai Chi, so we have plenty of time to get it right." Always thought I'd like to learn T'ai Chi,
THANKS Bill! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great workout tape!!!
I really haven't been able to find a workout tape like this one! I mean because it has a little for every part of the body.

This tape is about 64 minutes long, which after working out so long you get relieved it is over, because it really is the "next challenge"!!

The tape consists of:
a warm up, about 2 mins of jumping (like rope jumping type jumps), 20mins of legs (lunges or all sorts, and some kicks) which has a lil water break every 4mins or so, then its abs 1, which has some crunches, then has some chest exercises, (which I've not been able to find any like these anywhere else), then its abs 2, then moves on to arms/shoulders/upper back for 10mins (and those hurt!), then moves on to abs 3, and continues to lower back, and cool down, et voila, you are done!!

Cindy is accompanied by a personal trainer, Rudu (i believe is his name) and hes always in the background always guiding Cindy and reminding her of proper form at all times and helping her count the sets.

I like this video because it has some aerobics, weight training, abs. It is a well-rounded tape, even though after a while the second half of the tape (from abs1 to lower back) it gets to be not so challenging, but you can always change the sets to suit your fitness level.

The background seems to be an empty loft, and the desert. The music is very soothing, (it has a Blondie song).
I'd recommend this tape, it is nicely done.

4-0 out of 5 stars Athletic moves, not jumpy fluff
Getting this video used for a buck was the best deal I have found all year. Cindy begins with a good warm up and stretch section. The aerobic series follows. I am not a fan of elaborate aerobics, so I was happy with the basics that are really worked: lunges, squats, kicks and jumps. Three ab segments are spread out across the workout: you will feel the burn. I think there is a total of about 160-200 reps. The stregnth training is very thorough: lots of chest excercises are something kind of different, rows and curls are plentiful. All of this takes place with beautiul backgrounds and ethereal music. Cindy is sweet and inspirational, but as another reviewer pointed out, not even supermodels have perfect bodies. Working out is fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you need a great workout, this is it!
I am so relieved that this workout is finally on DVD. I have been saving my old VCR to play this workout video and hoping that eventually it would be released on DVD. My prayers have been answered. I can now get rid of my noisy VCR and put my "Next Challenge" video to rest. This workout gives me the best toned abs, thighs, arms and shoulders. You do not have to learn any dance steps or difficult routines. I try to do the workout at least 4 times a week. I just turned 47 and thanks to this workout I have a hard body. I have been doing the workout since 1995. My sister told me about the video. When I went to visit I tried it. I was hooked. You do ache on your first few times doing the workout. It is worth it when you see the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best workout I have ever done
I am a dancer, so I wanted to have something else on the side to exercise all the muscles that dancing doesn't always reach. Plus, I wanted to get stronger. So I tried a Richard Simmons video. It was okay the first time but it was not challenging and I found it extremely annoying as well. So I saw this one in the store and thought I'd give it a try. WOW!! I have finally found a workout that was perfect for me! (I quickly tossed the Richard Simmons video.) I have only been doing it for a couple of weeks, and I'm feeling much more energetic and I'm losing some weight as well. After I did it for the first time, I was very, very achy, but not sore. The achiness was just a sign that it was working. So after sticking with it and doing it everyday, the achiness has left and I'm doing it a lot more easily now. It's not Hard, per se, it's just challenging. And if you stick with it you'll be glad you did!! It's amazing!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite! My boyfriend is even doing it!
This is a strong workout. Don't be put off by the fact that it is a model doing the routine. My boyfriend watched some of what I was doing and decided he would try it too. It worked him good and he claims he will do it every week now. It's thorough, too the point and doesn't waste your time. You get a good hour of strength and cardio all around. This is not whimpy fluff that has you moving around, but not really concentrating on strengthing your muscle groups (if that's what you want, don't get this). And to top all that off, Cindy is a pleasant person to be around, with a soothing and real demeanor. Plus the setting, editing and music is qualilty. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as stated...
I bought this DVD a short while back from Amazon with great expectations. This video was made in the early eighties and it shows it's age. This video was marketed as a great aid for expectant parents. On that premise, I decided to purchase it. The video starts off talking about cells and how life got started on earth a million years ago. I was disappointed to see that the first 30-45 minutes didn't really talk about babies at all, but more the fertilization process. There is a short segment at the end that shows a few different stages in the pregnancy, but not nearly enough. I also bought Life's Greatest Miracle by NOVA at the same time. I was a little disappointed in that one too, but it shows more of what I was expecting to see. Whatever you do, don't buy both as I did...A lot of the stuff is redundant. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a miracle...
The cinematography of this video is truly breathtaking. A learning process from beginning to end. Everytime I watch this video, I am constantly amazed and how the photographer was able to capture the events of conception. A masterpiece!

5-0 out of 5 stars Now you will know that the Almighty is truly behind all this
This is no fake thing! That truly was a little capture of the works and art of the great God that we serve. He is a supreme scientist, architect and he is so great. It gets to the point where modern science cannot go further with their bogus explanations. The miracle, is there and it is beyond comments and explanations. Go and see for your self, GOD IS GREAT and we must serve him.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disgusted
This video was shown in my 9th/10th grade Biology class. It was completely inappropriate for people my age. The view of a male's [reproductive part] inside a women's [reproductive part] was so not necessary. It was not a drawing, but a real picture through a camera. The real live birth uncensored was also inappropriate. THey don't even show that on the discovery channel uncensored. Also the heat image of a [male reproductive part] becoming erect, 14-16 yr olds don't need to see that!

2-0 out of 5 stars slightly misleading
I bought this video because I wanted to learn more about pregnancy and childbirth after I found out I was pregnant. Based on the video's cover, I expected it to be about humans. The video is so broad and offers only a few minutes of actual footage that I was interested in. I felt like I was in science class and bored for the most part. It is an informative video, but not if you want to know about what is happening with your developing baby. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aerobic and spiritual workout
I have tried about 5 different yoga workout tapes, and these are by far the very best. The biggest benefit of Kest's is that he gives you time to stay in the poses, and paces it like a master. Rodney Yee's tapes are so stupid by comparison; he races through the poses like a science nerd who has no patience for dopey beginners. Kest, on the other hand, is very patient and persistent. His comments are encouraging and reassuring. He is a real human. While I agree with most of the other reviewers who say that it is not for beginners, it is not necessary to be Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, either. I had worked with Susan Deason's tapes, which were great preparatory workouts for this, for about 3 months. After that I felt I needed something more powerful and fat-burning (hate that word). You can stop worrying about weight loss and all that bunk that the consumerist gurus obsess about. Kest's approach has a spiritual side that makes you stay involved in the workout from a personal growth point of view; this guy has a wonderful system. My body is going through miraculous changes already, after 3 weeks; my waist is thinner, my torso is lengthening, my breathing and sense of well-being have improved by about 100%. Bravo, Bryan Kest!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best yoga workout EVER!
I'm serious, folks - I've tried lots of different yoga tapes and Bryan Kest's series is by far the best of them all. I do think you'd need to have at least some working knowledge of yoga poses (ie: you've taken at least one or two yoga classes in the past or done a Rodney Yee tape or two) to begin with tape 1. But even if you don't, Bryan is a wonderful instructor who puts anyone at ease with his calm reassurances that you can do this at your own pace and take breaks when you need to. As he says repeatedly throughout the series - this is your workout, you do what you need to do.

Tape 2 is my favorite and I've already had to replace it once because it got warped from how much I used it. It's a full 50 minutes of make-you-sweat yoga with challenging poses and variations. At no point do you feel like the workout is too easy. Bryan keeps it flowing throughout from one pose to the next. There are a lot of sun salutations, though, so be forewarned.

I still have to try Tape 3. I love tape 2 so much though that I feel comfortable sticking with it. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking to be challenged and taken out of an easy comfort zone with yoga. Kest is truly a master and makes anyone feel like they can do this too.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite power yoga!
This set was the first set of yoga tapes I purchased several years ago, and it is still a favorite, joined by the Power of Hatha Yoga Ultimate Series with Naader Shagagi. I've been doing yoga for some time now and am still even challenged by the first one, so I can interchange all three. The greatest part is that this doesn't feel like the "fad"-type power yoga -- Kest's soothing voice and reminder to only go as far as you can while remaining equanimous keeps the tone down but makes this a powerful, yet smooth-paced workout. Great for both beginners and those more advanced at yoga!

4-0 out of 5 stars Erotic power yoga 90s style
The good point about this tape is the price, that you have 3 practices, and that this is REAL Power Yoga..This stuff hurts..I can almost guarantee if you do these tapes daily you will see results...yesterday the UPS man told me I had nice arms, and I am positive I am now leaner as opposed to that bulky weight lifting nautilus look I had.Ok,Level 1 is for Total Newbies,Level 2 is the HARDEST,and Level 3 although hard is NOT as hard as level 3...My butt is sore everytime I do the tapes....I myself as a former fashion student love the lighting and music, but here is the thing I find made it hard for me to concentrate in the beginning...Bryan Kest is a long haired stud muffin and we see 90s video type shots of his lovely face, him in a leather jacket, and him doing handstands half naked in black tights..Wonderful,but nothing to do with the instruction practice...Also,Mr.Kest is perpetually shirtless during the class, showing off a beautiful body (obviously from yoga) wearing strategically sexy yoga attire, and adjusting a cast of women with 6 pack stomachs and gym god men..I do not think I am being immature for noticing this (I am 39)..but it does give the tape am erotic vibe..Now I have gotten past it,because this is a must have for a collection,at a decent price...I would recommend this tape along with Roddney Yees Power Yoga (make sure you get the 75 minute tape) and also watching Steve Ross on Inhale on The Oxygen channel at 6 am,and in 6 months you WILL see a new body as long as youre also watching your diet and adding cardio .

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!
I used to go to the gym, but after trying Bryan Kest's yoga tapes, the gym just seemed so monotonous. This is one of the best workouts I have ever done. Sweat like crazy, and after only a few times of doing it, I feel more energetic than ever. My muscles are definetely toner too.
Immature people who comment about Bryan's physical appearance or the way he touches his students are so lame! Shouldn't you be focusing on practicing your poses rather than looking at what Bryan's wearing? ... Read more

Amazon.com essential video

Arnold Schwarzenegger works the crowds, plots strategies for defeating multiple opponents, shares his parents' values with the press, and inspires legions of admirers with his resolute optimism about the future. And all of this long before he decided to run for governor of California, in 1977's hit documentary, Pumping Iron. Larger than life, though not necessarily larger than his rivals for the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia bodybuilding titles (especially a young Lou Ferrigno, hot on Arnold's competitive trail but much less interesting), Schwarzenegger still comes across, at age 28, as a consummate politician, smart, likable, and crafty about exploiting others' psychological weaknesses. The film still feels redundant (there's only so much beefcake the human eye will tolerate), but the emotional dramas--the unrewarded hard work, the unanswered hopes--are compelling. Complete with a revealing 2003 interview with Schwarzenegger and a reunion of the film's bodybuilders and director. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Docudrama
The 25th anniversary edition of Pumping Iron is loaded with special features and behind the scenes footage of the making of the self-titled "docudrama." All the bodybuilders and filmmakers are interviewed, looking back 25 years ago to what really happened. It's amazing to see that a good portion of the film was actually complete fabrication. Nobody ever hid Katz's t-shirt, for example - the scene with Waller saying he was going to hide it actually was shot well after the competition where he lost it. Ferrigno's father wasn't actually involved in his training - they asked him to fake that so they could paint Lou's character differently. These are just a couple of the secrets that are revealed on the DVD. If you are a fan of the film, you need to get this to see how much true info was left out.

If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it, even if you have no interest in bodybuilding. It's a fascinating look into the world of bodybuilders from a safe distance. This is also the dawn of the golden age of the sport, when it was really just getting started in Venice Beach.

This edition of the DVD exposes some remarkable secrets about the original, as well as all the info you could ever want about Arnold. Very entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Slice of History from the Golden Age of Bodybuilding
Pumping Iron essentially follows four bodybuilders, two professional (Arnold Schwarzenegger & Lou Ferigno) and two amatuers (Mike Katz & Ken Waller)as they train and compete for their sport's top prize, Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe, respectively. The setting is 1975 and the contests take place in Pretoria, South Africa.

There are also several vignettes describing the backgrounds of the competitors listed above as well as Franco Columbo. In addition to the background of the main competitors, we get to see a side of them that is unknown to the audience (at that time) - such as Arnold's use of psychology against opponents and his unsatisfied thirst for victory.

Visually, the training at Gold's Gym in Venice,CA and the posedown at the contests, are stunning. I would have liked to see more training and contest footage (I'm sure it exists) but perhaps they are saving it for a DVD edition (if it ever gets made).

Overall, this is an excellent video tape to own. If you are a bodybuilding fan, this will undoubtedly provide you with motivation and insight. If you are not a fan, this may be what makes you one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest!
Best documentary EVER. Arnold mentions in the extras they called it a "docudrama" rather than a documentary, but it is--even if some if fictionalized. It's great, captures the essence of the sport and the drive to be the best. And Arnold's attitude brings along great humor!

5-0 out of 5 stars good movie
this movie wasnt that bad,if your into weight lifting, bodybuilding.this is the movie for you. There are all the classic lifters, lou, franco, aronld, and more.I recommend it as a buy it movie , more then a rent it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Motivation
A lot of other people who reviewed this movie wrote about the "psychological" aspect of it and how Arnold was able to psych out Lou Ferrigno to win the 1975 Mr. Olympia title. The fact is that most of what happens in the movie is acting, except for the training scenes and the actual contest outcome. This is what I want to focus my review on. Arnold retired from the sport of bodybuilding before I was born, so like many people my age the only way we could see Arnold training was through black and white photos in his Bodybuilding Encyclopedia book. However, this DVD brings those pictures to life and now you can see Arnold training "in motion" for the first time (although it is less than 10 minutes of the movie). Two scenes in particular that really give you an idea of how hard he used to train is when he does T Bar Rows and Squats. Its unbelievable, the guy was a machine. I have watched this movie so many times before I went to the gym and it is a great way to get motivated. And as good as the movie is the extras are even better. The interview with Arnold is very interesting and so are the behind the scenes footage. The movie itself is very well done, Arnold has some hilarious quotes but the best thing about it are the training scenes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars we love this DVD!
my daughter is 2 and absolutely adores this DVD. We already have and love "Yoga for the Kid in All of Us" (also recommended) and I wanted to get her another "yoga show" to expand her repetoire. If you found Yoga for the Kid... a little silly at times, then you will love this one. It is not dumbed down at all, but very pleasant and intelligent for parents and children. The instructor is calm, yet upbeat and does not talk "down" to the kids or use a sing -song voice (this is a huge pet peeve of mine- I cannot stand the dumbed down tone of most kids videos). I enjoy this one a lot. She goes through a different pose or excersize for each letter of the alphabet, usually an animal or object a child is familiar with. her explanation for "Om" (for the letter O) is very good, and the Namaste song for N is quite lovely and we hum it all day after we see the DVD. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great practice for the patient and well-informed
I am a 41 year old yoga teacher, and I been studying and practicing yoga about 8 years, and doing Bikram-style and power yoga for about three years. My prefernce is a very challenging practice that makes me sweat and try asanas I am not familiar with. This DVD is not for everybody, but I loved it. I also loved Beryl's book which I found at a used book store last winter (which you really MUST get UNLESS you have a great Ashtanga Primary Series class locally) so although many of the reviews were negative, I decided to try the DVD. I am so glad I did! I learned so much just from doing it for a week! I find Beryl very knowledgeable about all aspects of practice, her cuing is very nice but I can see how you could get lost if you are not familiar with the series. I have to modify many of the postures that require lots of hip or shoulder flexibility, but... so what? As Beryl's guru Patthabi Jois is often quoted, "Do your practice, all is coming." It sounds like many of the disgruntled reviewers were expecting to be able to just "DO IT" and were frustrated that they weren't "told" this practice takes TIME (1.5 - 2 hours), Patience, and ongoing practice to master. People -- this is yoga. That's the deal. Yoga is a process of self-awareness. If you just want to jump around and get in shape, The FIRM workouts are nice. Baron Baptiste's power yoga videos are sort of "Ashtanga Lite" and may help prepare you for a more rigorous practice like this. But I think Beryl is a great teacher, and her only mistake was not making a package out of her book and DVD, because they really have to be used together to get the most out of it.

This is a very advance yoga workout. I found it helpful because I was looking for some additionally challenging yoga postures, well I found it. In reality, it's a little over the top unless your a very dedicated and practice yoga on a daily basis. I do asanas daily (power style) so it is appropriate for me, but most people I know do not practice daily and if they do this video they are likely to hurt themselves. So if you are not doing regular ashtanga style or power style yoga on a regular basis, don't get this, it will be to difficult for you. If however, you practice power/or ashtanga yoga regularly, here is the next step to challenge yourself. (Dont' expect to perform all the postures at first)

1-0 out of 5 stars Too fast, No backbends
I do not recommend this DVD. I consider myself pretty experienced and I enjoy more challenging workouts (Brian Kest, Eion Finn). This workout goes too far though. She moves so quickly between poses that I find myself becoming stressed out trying to keep up! That is certainly not what I want from my yoga practice. I found it really ironic that several times during the workout she actually preaches "Don't rush". Ha, that is exactly what she is doing, and unless you rush, you can't keep up with her. There are no backbends such as camel or bow so at the end of the workout you feel unbalanced because your hamstrings are really streched but your front side is still tight. I've tried doing this workout many times just thinking that I needed to improve my attitude or try harder but I've finally given up. I don't think I will ever enjoy this and I doubt many others will either.

5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous dvd--but for ashtanga familiars only!!!
This is a wonderfully produced DVD. Beryl's voice is pleasant and I enjoy that there is a range of body types in the "class". There are also a number of modifications shown, although occasionally I think the camera cuts too quickly so it may be difficult to see enough of them.

But this is a fast-paced, complete Ashtanga primary series. It is wonderfully useful for those like myself who have had some Ashtanga instruction and practice already but who maybe are not quite advanced enough to have memorized the entire practice and do it without cues. Or for those who enjoy feeling like they are in a class setting now and then instead of solo practice every day. It does NOT give instruction on how to do the poses and it is NOT for beginners or for anyone who is not used to a vigorous practice. That instruction is best obtained from a class, (although BBB's book is very good, I found I was doing many poses incorrectly once I branched out from her book to live instruction).

1-0 out of 5 stars Label your product
I am very frustrated with this purchase. NOWHERE on the cover does it even state that this video is not for beginners, and after reading the reviews by others on this website, it obviously is only for the very advanced. The back of the dvd box reads "The students on-screen, ranging widely in age and ability, demonstrate modifications" ...... LIES!!! To repeat... At least MENTION IT IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Now I am stuck with the purchase. Oh yea, the claim "with detailed explanations" is a JOKE. Just read the other reviews. Summary- purposely concealed the intended audience to increase sales to unsuspecting consumers. An HONEST description would have been the ETHICAL way to go about promotion of her product! ...
