4-0 out of 5 stars Not better or worse, just different.
I was a huge fan of the original TaeBo advanced workout, so I was really excited when this new DVD came out (especially since my first workout was on VHS and is about ready to give out). Beware that this Taebo workout is much different than the first. Movements are much faster, giving you a more intense workout, but also increasing the risk of injury. There isn't any floor work in this video, which I miss because the first video had a great abs section. Your butt and thighs will probably be toned enough after the regular floor workout, however, so a floor session for these areas probably isn't needed. Finally, Billy Blanks is much less annoying in this new edition. Mind you, he's still annoying and likes to preach to you about how fit you'll be, but he doesn't go off on sermons while you're busy doing yet another extra set of some painful move. Billy, although I wish you would shut up a lot more, I must say, your workout videos are the best around. I saw results after the first week!

5-0 out of 5 stars Every muscle gets it....
The Get Ripped Advanced series are 60-minute workouts that will work your entire body, head to toe, and leave you drenched in sweat! Ever since I started using these workouts, I haven't been able to find any comparable to the intensity and challenge of them. I'm an advanced exerciser, and these tapes are strictly for advanced tae-bo fans. I love how Billy uses workouts that really work every part of the abs, over and over. You will DEFINITELY need a bottle of water during these...yes, his production level is still the low-budget, cheesey type; however, I'm still getting every penny's worth because these tapes are used over and over again; never boring...to me, that's worth more than high production value--forget the mountains, beaches, beautiful music and wardrobes; these workouts are for REAL people of all shapes/sizes, and they will work for you faster than any other workout. Don't be afraid to try them (they can seem intimidating at first); once you get it, you'll stick with it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Production was OK, workout was great
With the first workout, I worked up more of a sweat than I ever have. I did notice they weren't doing the moves equally on both sides and were not in synch sometimes. It doesn't matter too much for me, since they go very fast and it will probably take me awhile to follow everything. There is a lot of variety, so I didn't get bored at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweat Sweat Sweat!!!
This is a great work out for those "in beteween" days I don't weight train. Very challenging lower body moves, keeps your heart pumping you will sweat!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super intense, fun workout!
If you are looking for a very challenging but fun workout, here it is. I have been doing the original Tae Bo workout for about a month and decided to try another one with a little more challenge. It is definitely a better workout, better music and good energy. I would not recommend this workout for the beginner, but to anyone with a little experience. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars To the point and worth it.
I'm a dude and was only interested in getting right to the abs, wihtout the fluff and without the care to "fastforward" using a VHS. I'm already fit and just needed an extra "side" to get me motivated to do the abs more.

Pros: Good 15 minute workout. I recommend recording the DVD audio to tape/CD/Mini-Disk (one that you use in the gym) and listen to it while doing your abs on the floor. Great way to focus on the abs and to focus your attention. 3 workouts which get progressively harder. (I don't watch the buns.)

Cons: The DVD's audio is not properly leveled. You'll notice its volume levels rising and falling in some areas. She get's 4 stars for it!! Not to mention she goofed on the count in one of the excercises. (Where was the editing crew?!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay video
This video isn't too bad. I was a little dispointed. I think the abs part is better than the buns. There are two things that bother me about this tape. The first is that many of the workout routines require a good balancing abilty. I would prefer to just worry about the workout instead of thinking about having to balance. The second annoyance I have is that several times throughout the workout, she says "one more" or "last one" and then will do 3 or 4 more reps. It is a great ab workout, but as I said, the buns part is disapointing

4-0 out of 5 stars THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL!!
I am not usually a fan of exercise videos because I feel like they never work! However, this has changed my mind! I was doing it for about a month off and on before I bought it and now I do it everyday. I can't believe the changes I am seeing in my abs! The one thing I would say is I don't care for the warmups so I usually do my own cardio for about 10min. Like riding my recumbent bike and some stretches. I am a 26yr old male so if your a guy don't worry this is not too corny and it really works!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the purchase....
Tamilee Webb is very focused throughout this workout. There are 3 ab exercises and 3 bun exercises. Different workouts with maximum results. If you are a fan of her I Want That Body DVD, which is top notch for ab and arm workouts, you will not be disappointed. She reiterates about the importance of taking care of your body, performing cardio exercises and addressing the other parts of your body that is not addressed in this DVD. If you are looking for cardio, get Billy Blanks, this is not a cardio workout. It is a focused workout for specific muscle groups, listed above. Finally, there are plenty of bogus DVD workouts on the market, this is not one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamilee Does it Again!
Maybe I'm biased because I own most of the "Buns, Arms, Abs, Legs, etc. of Steel" videos and then got hooked on the "I Want that Body" workout but the "Quick Toning - Abs & Buns of Steel" is another hit.

There are three 10 minute abs workouts that include a decent 4 minute warm up and a quick 3 minute cool down for a total 17 minute workout. This is great for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of time for a workout but needs results. I've been working out for most of my life and couldn't believe the burn that I felt from some of the new ab moves. This is a great way to keep those muscles challenged.

The bun workout is the same format as the abs and has equally wonderful warm ups, excersizes and cool downs.

One other nice quality of this video is that the video goes almost immediately from the FBI warning to the menu. No long introduction that shows all of the sponsors' logos.

I did at least one section of this video a day and ate a healty diet and I noticed a difference. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This DVD is a compilation of his 1987 TC and KF videos.
If you have the VHS tapes he made in 1987 - "David Carradine: T'ai Chi Workout" (ASIN: B00000DGGX or ASIN: 6302817668) and "David Carradine's Kung Fu Workout" (ASIN: 6302702844) - then there is not really anything new here in the workout sections. However, for those who have been waiting for him to put those 1987 workouts on DVD, this is it! They're both here. I really liked his "Shaolin Cardio Kickbox" tape. I haven't seen the "Shaolin Strength Workout" tape yet, but I'll probably get both when he releases them on DVD. Maybe he'll put both Shaolin workouts on the same DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Try It!...You'll Love It!
I work out every day. I vary my workouts between weight training, aerobics, upper and lower body days, some Yoga and some Pilates. I started incorporating this "Tai Chi Workout for Beginners" about 6 weeks ago, and now it is the one I use the most. If I had to choose only one, this would be it! With each session it leaves me feeling strong and rejuvinated, it is a feeling that is almost euphoric that I carry with me long after the workout.

As a total newbie to Tai Chi, I am glad I started with this one and would highly recommend it to others who want to learn from a great instructor.David Carradine, who we all know and love as "Grasshopper" from the Kung Fu TV series, will immediately put you at ease with his soft voice, and expertly and gently guide you through the entire workout.

The program breaks down to five sequences of movements and then on to a meditation sequence that is indescribably wonderful.
First up is about 15 minutes of specific stretching exercises, that will get the blood flowing and the muscles warmed up. If you practice Yoga, you will probably be flexible enough to perform these easily. If you are not as flexible, go slow, there is a lot of twisting and strectching, and the more you practice these, the more flexible you will become. Next up you will learn the Basic Stances of Tai Chi, which also take a bit of practice to get down, then on to some Vital Engery and Fitness exercises in which you will actually feel the stress leaving your body and the engery entering. After that, Indiviual Tai Chi Movements(a master instructor is on hand to demonstrate at this point) are practiced and then it is all put together in Complete Tai Chi Form.

The total workout is a little over an hour, and I will tell you that you are getting quite a workout and won't even realize it. There isn't one part of your body that is missed. It will leave you stress free, toned and more flexible physically and mentally. The meditation sequence as mentioned is also wonderfully calming. Carradine is always encouraging, and makes you feel perfectly fine to go at your own pace.

And there's more..you really get your money's worth on this DVD. You will also find a Kung Fu Session which also includes stretching, stance training, some kicking exercises, combination exercises and the philospophy.

Other features include four songs by Carradine and an interview.
The music is light, refreshing and will help ease you into this gentle but highly effective workout. No special equipment is needed. The class is wearing some sort of jump suits(that looked like something out of the Jetsons) and were wearing sneakers. I usually do the workout in just some comfortable clothing that moves easily, and barefoot on my Yoga sticky mat.

I absolutely loved this workout and the class. It gave me a fabulous introduction to Tai Chi, was a great workout, left me feeling wonderful(and even feeling a little more graceful then before) and wanting to come back for more.

Try it...you'll love it!...Thanks "Grasshopper"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Total Body Workout!
I work out every day and use a step aerobics tape between 4-7 days a week. This one is one of my favorites in a rotation of 13 videos I currently use. Kathy Smith is one of the best instructors. Her directions are so good that, after using this tape a few times, one can actually complete the moves without having to watch the screen (which makes it easier to maintain proper body alignment). She mirrors her instructions (when she says "left" she means YOUR "left") and it's very fun. Smith and her crew seem to have a great time which, to me, rubs off on the viewer! The video starts with an 8-minute warm-up and follows with three step segments from beginning level to advanced (12, 13, and 10 minutes respectively). One can fast-foward to the 5-minute cool down after the first or second segments if they are just beginning step aerobics or if they are hard-pressed for time). After aerobics, there is a 5-minute ab toning segment which utilizes the inclined function of the Original Step. Finally, there is an 8-minute upper body toning segment using hand-weights (one can probably improvise with cans of veggies, etc.) Finally, you cool down with a 5-minute stretching segment. Few videos are as well-rounded as this one and, although it's about an hour and ten minutes long, it's over before you know it because it is so fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!
I used to take regular step classes about 10 years ago, but apart from horseback riding have done nothing along those lines since then. Having just turned 40 I decided I should probably start doing something and began wondering what I would enjoy and stick with. Step aerobics popped into my mind and I went ahead and bought a Step, mat, weights and some videos.

I had such a blast the first time, and even though it's been a while I found I hadn't forgotten most of the moves (a couple of goofs on my part, but Kathy's explanations weren't to blame). I even felt comfortable enough to complete the entire workout without having to skip through any sections.

I need motivation, and Kathy and her crew gave me that. The moves aren't complicated, they are well explained and, in my opinion, the video is suitable for anyone from a total beginner (skip the more advanced sections) to an advanced-intermediate. Not to say an advanced stepper wouldn't have fun and get a good workout, but the moves are not complicated and the more adventurous sorts might want to have a more complex, highly choreographed workout.

In summary, it's lots of fun and I look forward to my workouts!

One minor point -if I had access to a DVD player where I choose to work out in the house, I'd probably pick that over VHS. It would just be easier to skip through the intro, which certainly isn't necessary to watch each time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Workout for Beginners, but Annoying Host
As a beginner, this tape was quite effective and a great introduction to Step-Aerobics, but now that I have been doing step aerobics for over a year at the gym and using other tapes, I find this tape very boring and too easy. I find myself adding "power" moves to the moves Kathy is doing to make it more challenging, even during the advance portion.

Speaking of Kathy, she seems very uncomfortable in front of the camera and it is almost as if someone off camera is telling her and her crew to look like they're having fun. It doesn't seem real. Especially with her half-embarassed forced sounding "Uh-huh's" peppered throughout the tape...and how about Richard's mullet and sweaty hanes t-shirt...ew!

That's all, if you don't mind the awkward fake enthusiasm, you will have an effective beginner's workout.

Good luck!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good workout but bad music
I recieved my video today and am a little dissapointed. The workout is good and I did work up a sweat, but the music is just plain dull.. I like to exercize to music that's motivational and makes you want to work ..not zone out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this step workout!
This is a great step workout! I love how the video is broken down into different sections, so you can choose how much or how little you want your workout to be. It's really great for all fitness levels! I especially like the upper and lower body sculping at the end of the video, but I do wish the cool-down stretch was a little bit longer because it feels great after a hard workout. It's really great for beginners as well; Kathy Smith shows you learning strategies to make sure your doing the step moves correctly to prevent injury. Very nice way to workout at home... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent weight body sculpting workout
I like Stephanie Corley very much as an instructor, this workout was a perfect length 45 min and had so many additonal sculpting exercises i KNOW will be feeling it tomorrow as much as any aerobic step workout. Excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a total body workout
This is 45 minutes of a total body workout. It goes by fast but the results are great. After doing this workout the first day, my body felt it the next. Some people don't think you need the fanny lifter, I did try this workout and some of the Firms others without the fanny lifter and the results are not the same. Especially doing the leg press, the lifter is needed. The instructor is great, even paced and keeps you motivated to finish the workout. The last segment is the ab segment and it is short, sweet, to the point and effective. The other DVD of the Firms I would recommend is the Body Sculpt with Jennifer Carmen, that workout is 55 minutes and you definately feel it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Efficient total body workout
Stephanie Corley is one of the best of the new Firm instructors. Like most Firm instructors, she cues moves and changes very well. However, unlike a good number of them, she manages to be motivating without being condescending and uses a lot of clear visualizations.

The workout, designed by Corley, is efficient and hits everything. Those who want the more traditional Firm approach incorporating multi-body part moves (e.g., bicep curls as you squat) or mixing upper body and lower body exercises (e.g., lunges followed by lat rows followed by dips) will be disappointed. This is more "gym style" in it's approach, working Upper Body, Lower Body, then Abs. However, within each section, Corley mixes body parts. So within Upper Body, you would work triceps, then biceps, then triceps, then back to biceps. With a change in lifting tempo (1 up, 1 down, then 2 up, 2 down, then maybe a 3-count pulse), it's unlikely that you'll be bored though.

I always find that if I heavy up on the Firm leg exercises I get into my aerobic training zone. This was no exception. Mercifully, however, this workout only has two sets of the famous tall step leg press and only (I believe) 1 set of lunges and dips each. You'll be working, but you won't be dying. It's worth noting that all of the exercises in the Lower Body section are standing- if you want floorwork, look elsewhere.

The abwork is a nice, short mix of traditional ab crunches and some Pilates-inspired moves (leg pulls, leg lowering). Probably my least favorite section (I'm not a fan of traditional ab work), but nothing wrong with it.

A tall step (12 to 14 inches) is required, particularly for the leg presses. I use a sturdy stool. The 6 inch step is used here to aid in the lunges and dips, but if you've lunged before without a step, you'd probably be fine. Those with not so great knees (like yours truly) will probably want to use the 6 inch step.

Each workout includes a warmup and a stretch. This is a great tape for those who are consistently short on time but want to get in a thorough sculpting workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE firm tape!!!
Ok, I have the worst knees in the world and this workout is FINE! (someone said to skip this workout if you have bad knees) Recent research has proven that for maximum fat loss one needs 25% cardio and 75% resistance training. This tape is almost perfect for that! (See Business Plan for the Body)

This tape is divided into 3 sections, each 15min. I try to do all of them at once and it is exhusting!
Each muscle group is worked to resistance and there is no time wasting dancing around!!!
I use this tape on my body sculpting days and alternate it with cardio and the newer body sculpt with abs. I would do only this one on my sculpt days but you know that "muscle confusion" is important!
The entire body is worked, including abs. Also, you can adjust this workout by increasing or decreasing your weights.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for those who don't live to work out
I don't like being "forced" to do an hour long workout but I find that I can do it. I've finally whipped my butt into shape with this video without feeling exhausted afterwards. This video works all the major muscle groups, mostly to fatigue, especially my triceps and shoulders which tend to be my weakest areas. It seems a bit light in the back work, but then again it's difficult to build back muscles with dumbbells alone. For those of you who hate pushups, fortunately there aren't too many of these. I couldn't get these results with the older Firm videos I tried, maybe because I can't get myself to stick with it for the long haul. You don't need to kill yourself for an entire hour to get into great shape; it's all about the method, not the time. Interestingly enough, I actually have the motivation to go through all the segments (total 40 minutes) and then do my cardio workout (adds another 1/2 hour). The DVD is segmented into upper body, lower body, and abs. Remember, you can always increase your weights when they become too light. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Less than what I had expected.
This workout is far from spectacular. It starts out with brief instructions from Denise on what she means when she says certain things and how your form should look. The first 20 minutes segment is comprised entirely of pilates moves. She takes you through a very typical pilates routine - scissors, leg circles, etc., nothing special here. The second segment is supposed to be tougher, so she says, and combines the same basic pilates moves with some yoga. The whole process is very relaxing. There's no corny music and she does a good job of not talking too much. I did noticed a strengthening in my midsection (or "powerhouse" as we have come to know it) but it's nothing that a good series of crunches or other ab work wouldn't do.

I would not recommend using this dvd as a means for transforming your whole body. It's not that tough unless you're a beginner, and after that there's no way to make it more challenging. I found that I was no longer challenged after only about a dozen times using the dvd. What good is a workout tape if it's not going to stand the test of time? Because of this, I use it more as a second workout of the day or on those days where I barely exercise at all, either out of laziness or time restrictions, as it is pretty quick. If you have realistic expectations, this can be a nice addition to your collection, as it has been to mine, but I would not recommend this dvd as part of a bigger, serious pilates agenda.

4-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this video.
First off, I have to say that I love most of Denise Austin's videos and I also do her Fit&Lite and Daily Workout on Lifetime TV. I exercise in general for about 3-4 hours a day, so I'm not exactly a beginner, but I absolutely love the pilates to firm my legs and abs. The first part of the video seems easy to me, but the second part is more challenging.

I would not recommend, however, doing the second workout if you don't know some basic yoga principles, but its great if you do.

The only real problem I do have w/ the video is that she does tell you when she changes sides.

Other than that GREAT VIDEO!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 20mins To A Dancer's Body!
I've been a fan of Denise Austin's work for over two years - working out with her has always been fun and motivating, and I am always happy with the results I get with her videos.
This Pilates workout has certainly brought great results to my body - and it only took two weeks to get it. Denise puts together two segments into 20 minute workouts, with the first workout working mostly on the abdominals and lengthening the body to get a long, lean look. The second brings more of a challenging, more complex workout that combines Pilates and Yoga poses to create a more intense workout for the body.

I found this workout to be totally effective and worth every penny, but here is a WARNING: I would NOT recommend this workout for beginners. You would need to be at least intermediate in Yoga, or another kind of flexible exercise. If you think you're pretty flexible, this workout might work for you. But I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wasn't used to working out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great pilates workout
Thank you Denise for introducing me so nicely to Pilates, I loved your workout, it's working wonders on my tummy and legs, I wish people would give your voice a break, I enjoyed doing the workout from beginning to end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Post-Baby
I have had two c-sections in the past three years. I bought this video during my second pregnancy. Anyone who has had a baby or had a c-section knows that your abs loosen up and lose some of their strength. I had never done Pilates before trying this video but had heard a lot of good things about it. I find this video very relaxing and challenging. I have now been doing this video three times a week in conjunction with other exercises. My abdominals are better than ever and I was able to tell a drastic difference in how my abdominals were responding with this video than I had after my first c-section where I just did traiditional crunches. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Lower Body Workout- PERIOD
I purchased this DVD in the original Super Sculpting Six Pack by the FIRM. I was immediately impressed with it. For only thirty minutes, it most certainly will reshape your lower body.

Squats, leg press, plies, lunges, and dips are all here. The three big super sets of weight training are complete- this even gets the calves, a muscle group missed in pre-2001 FIRM workouts. The pace is kept interesting by the two short aerobic bursts in the middle. Lisa Kay leads the video. She is an upbeat and motivating instructor with great cueing.

The music is cool. The warm up and ending stretches are sufficient. You can't go wrong. It's a great workout! KITKA ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Birth Preparation Workout
This video is the best childbirth preparation you can do! As an avid workout enthusiast, I wanted a video that I could safely do as my doctor advised no more jumping or step workouts after my 3rd month of pregnancy.

The Kathy Smith Pregnancy video has a low impact aerobic segment followed by a superior toning section; a postnatal mini-workout with exercises for after your baby arrives is also included. As my husband says, giving birth is a major physical event that you must train for! After doing this video religiously 3-4 times a week for the last 6 months of my pregnancy, I had a textbook labor and a wonderful delivery. I even escaped the dreaded low back pain and swollen ankles which I attribute to staying physically active with this video. I was able to utilize a lot of the moves (squats, etc.) during labor and delivered a healthy son without drugs of any kind! Because I recovered from the birth quickly, I was better able to cope with those exhausting first few weeks home with my new son. I highly recommend this video to all my pregnant friends!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's old, but I still found it helpful in 2003
This workout has been filmed during Kathy's second pregnancy. It includes a warm-up or "energizer" as Kathy calls it, as well as 3 aerobics segments which are fun and easy to follow. There is a separate segment for toning the legs, arms (light weights are optional) and even exercises for the pregnant women's abs. I've used this video workout in my second pregnancy and found it very helpful. It's true, it is quite old and could be dissmised as outdated (although I for one am more interested in what a workout itself has to offer rather than complain about the music or outfits), but I think the exercises and advice on the video are still standing today.Kathy looks great and is inspiring as always. And the workout works! It worked for me, kept me in much better shape with my second pregnancy than with my first (when I was younger and also did other pregnancy video workouts), it helped me understand better how exercise improves our pregnant body and the postpartum tips given by Kathy were appreciated as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible, terrible
It is soo outdated. The moves are old. The outfits are even worse. Notably, only Kathy wears a decent outfit, the others are clothed in telly-tubbie style garb. Watch out for the horrible attempt at rap "do the preggo dance" (intended as a comic relief during the workout). Just awful!

It was initially a VHS so it doesnt have the functionality of the dvd.

Be warned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Retro is Cool!
Who cares that the video is dated? Pilates were hard enough for me when I was not pregnant, so when I was pregnant, the Kathy Smith video was a perfect alternate workout - esp. on those cold winter days when sidewalks were icy and getting over to the pool was a hassle. It's not particularly challenging, but overall I would imagine that a little bit of movement, some muscle work and getting your heart pumping can only be helpful to you and your growing baby. I found it especially safe and appropriate for my final trimester. Plus, it's one of the few non-yoga/pilates pregnancy videos out there!

1-0 out of 5 stars outdated, not as safe as you need it
I love Kathy Smith, but this DVD should be off the market. i cannot see how a 15 year video is still safe for prego women, so many things have changed with doctors that i do not feel comfortabel doing this retro video. The outfits made me laugh, and the cheesy moves were a hoot, but i didnt buy this for a laugh, so its not worth it to try it again and again, Fitmama is so much better. Sorry, but Kathy is not my prego teacher of choice. ... Read more

Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies
A workout that balances both the body and the mind can be found in Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies. Fundamental postures are explained and demonstrated slowly with an emphasis on breathing and motion. Sara Ivanhoe teaches 12 basic poses that are termed the "daily dozen" and offers challenges and modifications to each of these moves. Ivanhoe presents these concepts in an approachable and calming manner that adds to the overall relaxed feeling that this session exudes. Newcomers to the practice of yoga will learn jargon, essential postures, and focusing techniques. Experienced participants may find some information redundant, but Ivanhoe offers such thorough explanations about each posture that you can't help but expand your existing knowledge of yoga. As the mountain pose, standing forward bend, and downward facing dog are explained (not to mention the nine other poses within the "daily dozen"), proper body alignment becomes the focus. Meticulous attention is given to the connection between breathing and body movement with several reminders to keep the spine in "neutral alignment." This session ranks great for safety and content and makes yoga accessible to anyone who "always wanted to, but never did." This is a substantial program that can introduce the basics and build your understanding of yoga. --Olivia Voigts

Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies
Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies presents 12 yoga poses that skilled instructor Sara Ivanhoe calls the "daily dozen." Ivanhoe is calm, clear, warm, and patient, demonstrating each pose as the screen flashes easier andmore challenging modifications. The too-frequent voiceover "tips," "mythbusters," and "warnings"--announced by sound effects--are louder than Ivanhoe's voice and become disconcerting interruptions. Since they also appear in print on the screen, the jarring voice is unnecessary. Ivanhoe herself could give any tips needed for safety and effectiveness. Ivanhoe's careful, detailed instructions for each pose keep the progression slow, and an experienced yoga practitioner could get bored. However, a beginning exerciser who has mastered a basic workout will find this program a helpful next step before going to an intermediate level. The 70-minute DVD edition also includes a 15-minute guided meditation and the option to eliminate the music--you still hear instructor cueing and voiceover tips, but you can play your own music. --Joan Price ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Love It
I Love this DVD set. Sarah Ivanhoe is one of the best video instructors I've ever had. She goes slow enough for everybody to get it, but not too slow. She's very encouraging throughout it all. I'm not athletic at all and I am certainly not flexible, but she makes it fun and reassure me that it's ok. The Dummies tips and icons let you learn a bit about yoga and it's just a lot of fun. I would recommend this to anyone, but especially those of us that aren't very athletic or flexible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest!
I am a non-athlete (and overweight) all my life, but came to yoga with spritual needs about five months ago. I am not a spring chicken either, so you can imagine how out-of-shape I was... I thought I should start with Dummies series. I bought them separately, but now I see them as a 2-pack and I think this should be great for somebody who really want to start from the beginning. Now I own several yoga DVD's and go to yoga classes regularly, but I still consider Sara Ivanhoe one of the greatest instructors. She has a non-judgemental, yet encouraging and thorough way to introduce you to the world of yoga. Too often in classes, instructors throw names of poses at you (sometimes in sanskrit) without giving you enough explanations. I still go back to these DVD's once in a while and understand the explanation even more each time! Overall I think the DVD's deliver what they claim. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Good.
I have been using Leslie's Walk Away the Pounds Express II 4 mile walk tape (which I really have enjoyed) and was looking for something new when I discovered this tape. I think Leslie's queing has really improved. She still talks almost non-stop, but it's not as annoying as some of her other tapes. I used 2 lb weights (read too many stories about the belt not holding up well, so didn't get it) and really could feel this.

Collage Video catalogue rates this tape as intermediate. I have been exercising regularly for the last 3 years, and I have to say that this tape had me breathing hard by the end. A couple of the "regulars" who appear in almost all her tapes mentioned that it was "tough" for them too!

The music is good and loud enough to hear, unlike some of her previous tapes. Only she does tend to use the same songs over and over on her various tapes. There's at least one song on this one that is on her 2 Mile and 4 Mile Walk Off Weight Vol 2 and Vol 3 series. That's a little irritating.

It's fast paced and before you know it, you're done. It's a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good workout !!
I find this tape to be a very good upper body workout. While first using it, I found my arms really getting tired and feeling the "burn" --but after several weeks it is quite easy. Generally I do the 3 mile walking tape and then this 3 miles for abs tape--really a good fat burner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video to work up to!
I bought this video as a set with the ab belt that goes with it. You could just at easy use weights instead of the belt. It might even be better b/c you have to tuck in the handles of the belt often.

I like the video best of all three. If you know Leslie, she tends to talk a bit much at times. But it's not as bad in this video. But anyone's chatter will get annoying when you listen to it over and over. That's why it's good to have more than one video so you have variety. It also helps you stick to it better.

Even when I only want to do a mile or two I usually pick this video and then fast forward to the cool down when I'm ready. You really feel this workout. It's one that you have to work up to. The first time I tried it I couldn't get through it. And this was after about 3 weeks of doing the 1 and 2 mile with no problem.

I am blessed with coordination, but you really don't have to have much to do any of her workout videos. If you can raise your hand and kick your leg at the same time you can do a Leslie Sansone video. I wouldn't start with the 3 mile first but you should have no problem getting to it. If you don't have this tape and want more of a challange than the 2 mile this will help you. It does repeat a lot of the moves she uses in ever other tape, but it works so why change it?

I ended up losing 10 pounds in 6 weeks without changing my eating habits (I eat my fair share of carbs!). I also lost 2 1/2 inces off my waist and some off my arms and legs. My hubby commented on how much difference he saw! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Introduction to Tai Chi
"...because he is alive to difficulty. That is why he meets with no difficulty." ~Lao Tzu

Firstly this workout DVD has so many features it was quite amazing. If you are new to Tai Chi this is a perfect place to start. The music is soothing and exotic, the scenery is beautiful and the instructor's voice is calming.

Secondly, I could actually do the workout on the first try. Tai Chi looks difficult when it is done too quickly. On many other DVDs I felt that I could not learn the moves fast enough so I gave up. Scott Cole moves at a perfect pace.

Scott Cole focuses on guiding you through Tai Chi postures and training techniques. He blends martial and healing arts in order to empower you and motivate you to move in a healing direction. He was named one of the Top 5 Fitness Instructors in the world and has appeared in over 300 publications worldwide.

DVD Contents:

1. Play Features - Plays all the features

2. Chapter Selections - Pushing the Wave, Beautiful Woman Turns Her Waist, Grounded Chi Journey in Hawaii, Parting Horses Mane

3. Special Features - Postures with Narration, Postures With Music, Workbook Slideshow, Hawaii Workout to Music.

4. Audio Features - Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1

The benefits of this DVD are immediately apparent:

Renewed Strength
Upper Body Warming - blood flow definitely increases in the upper body.
Increased Flexibility
Increase in Energy and Confidence

This Tai Chi workout is the best I've ever tried. It was easy to learn the exercises and I also had a few great laughs because, well, some of the postures and movements are rather funny the first time you do them.

Once you have learned the moves you can then try the workouts with just music. Once you have memorized the workouts you may find yourself wanting to do the exercises outside. The exercise routines can be done almost anywhere and you need very little space to do them indoors at home.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay introduction for absoulte beginners...
however, you have to listen to a lot of New Age blabber. If you don't have much time to spend, have never done Tai Chi before, and you need a workout that is not too physically demanding, scott Cole's program really will fill the bill. However, this is not the traditional short form and the individual positions are performed differently by Cole (though they are easier to do) than by traditional Tai Chi teachers. Paul Lam's Tai Chi - The 24 Forms is a much better place to start if you've had some Tai Chi background or you want to learn according to the traditional style. Lam's DVD is detailed and precise, and includes 6 Qigong exercises as well. Personally, I found Cole's DVD a good springboard to get back into Tai Chi, but probably won't view it again now that I've stumbled across Paul Lam. Lam (a medical doctor) also has Tai Chi programs for people with diabetes, arthritis, folks who are over 50, and for absoulte beginners who need an easier introduction. But most of all, no New Age mental clutter to distract you from the beauty of the Tai Chi movements.

5-0 out of 5 stars New to Tai Chi
I have been doing Tai Chi in my home in front of the TV now for about 8 weeks. Scott Cole presents the material in an easy to digest way and keeps it light and interesting. I own this disc and the AM/PM workout disc. This disc is a little more advanced than the AM/PM workout disc in my opinion, but it doesn't move too fast. I would recommend the AM/PM disc if you haven't studied any martial arts before. I think that the postures in the AM/PM disc are a little easier to do than the moves on this disc.

That said, I think this disc is also appropriate for a beginner. The disc presents an introductory workout that gets the juices flowing. The disc menu is organized to help you do the workout, but also to get additional help on the postures. All of the moves are available from the postures menu. This is a good feature in my opinion - you can review any posture you are having problems with.

Overall I really like the disc. One complaint that I do have is that the default audio is stereo. The default should be Dolby digital 5.1. The DVD player and TV can convert that signal to stereo so why make that the default mode? Anyway, enjoy.

Cheers,

Chris

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for begining
The start of the DVD, where you have to go through all the company's crud that made the DVD, is really really annoying. Scott is fairly easy to follow, but I'm still not all the way through the DVD. I wish he went into some stretches, and how you're supposed to breathe and all a bit more; he goes a bit fast, sometimes. Which may seem a strange complaint, given he's moving in slooooow motion, but this is the very first time I've ever tried this stuff; I'm not just in it to learn the forms, I'm in a remote area and have no other way to learn this stuff. I guess I was hoping for a bit more of an introduction to Tai Chi; but if you already have a bit of experience in yoga or martial arts, and just want to learn & practice with the basic forms, this is a good DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Instruction
This is my first encounter with Tai Chi and I found Scott very easy to follow. I am now waiting to receive the AM/PM DVD's. I will make this a part of my life. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start getting back in shape
I bought this DVD to get back in some kind of shape after the birth of my first baby. I had been on bedrest for 10 weeks prenatal and didn't have the confidence to go straight back to exercise classes without taking some time to get in better shape at home first.

I like how the DVD involves Baby to some degree, because it made exercise more approachable. There were 1 or 2 exercises I had to struggle with at first, which wasn't necessarily a negative for me as it gave me something to shoot for. In some places, the soundtrack seems to be a little off from the video, so you have to choose between listening and watching to follow along. Also, you can't fast forward through all the talking at the beginning because there are no chapters. Despite these problems, I found what I was looking for (an exercise program that I could do with my 4 month old to get back on track with weight loss and fitness) in this DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay... but short and not for beginners
The total work out time for this DVD is 20 minutes and as a pilates novice, hard to follow. For such a short DVD it seems quite rushed and doesn't explain positions very well.

Although, the interaction with my 12 week old is wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for Mom and Baby
I love this workout! My baby is 5 months old, so I wish I had gotten this workout earlier, due to the fact that you are supposed to use it for a 2 month old up to a 6 month old. It consists of classic pilates moves designed to tone your hips, abs and thigh areas. It also has some upper body moves where you use your baby as a weight to tone your arms. I enjoyed it, it was a fast workout but very vigorous. The instructions on how to do the pilates excersizes were very clear throughout. My baby seemed to like it too! Again, my only regret is that I wish I had gotten this DVD earlier in my postpartum days so I could have worked out with my baby more. ... Read more
