Leonard Bernstein earned glory as a composer, conductor, and pianist(classical and jazz), but nothing gave him more pleasure than the joy of teaching. He presented the unique blend of spoken words and music known as the "Young People's Concerts" throughout his tenure as music director of the New York Philharmonic and for several years after. His enjoyment, and his audience's, can be seen vividly captured by the video cameras. He is an intensely interactive teacher, getting his audience to sing, springing a quiz full of trick questions, and singing a Beatles song to demonstrate a point.

Bernstein is completely at ease talking to his audience. He can takethe most abstruse subject - the meaning and function of intervals, tonality and atonality, the links between Gustav Mahler's troubled life and his music - and present them to a young audience with clarity, without condescension, and with a clear sense of the material'svalue. His subject-matter is enormously varied. For IgorStravinsky's 80th birthday, he simply tells his audience thestory of Petrouchka while conducting a dazzlingperformance of the colorful ballet. For a program on "FolkMusic in the Concert Hall," he plays some of Canteloube'sfolk song arrangements and the boisterous finale of Ives'sSymphony No. 2, full of borrowed pop and folk melodies. The influence of folk music is shown in folk song imitations byMozart and Carlos Chavez.

The sound and images, taped over a 15-year span when theart of recording was rapidly advancing, are varied in quality;the series begins in black-and-white and ends in vivid color. Not all of the programs are equally compelling, but all areworth close and repeated attention. --Joe McLellan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Was Enormously Skeptical...
...because I had read so muh hype about this New Sex...but I kept an open mind and I am EXTREMELY glad I did. To say this experience revolutionized my lovelife with my husband and brought us to a new level of intimacy would be to grossly understate the impact of this technique. What can you say to explain to someone that there is a whole new world of sexuality waiting just beyond the known experience? What can you say to convince someone that a simple one hour tape or DVD could transform an "average" sex-life into something intense, amazing, extraordinary -- awesome...? I got this product because a really good friend insisted that I try it. I hope you can take my recommendation as coming from a good friend, because you will be thrilled by the experience of love taught by New Sex Now. Thi is truly a five star product that has changed my life enormously for the better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ah Frenchie - so obnoxious, so boring, so very very French!
Forget the French - That culture holds as its greatest hero one who was a Corsican, an Italian: Napoleon. And they still pimp themselves to the world as the ultimate arbiters of all things cultural, when they prove every day their barbarism to the world.

Poor, Deluded, monolinguistic things - Who besides third-world countries or Canadian provencials even speak French these days?

This video is worth the money - unless you pay in Franques - for any couple wishing more in their sex lives than 'bourgois', depressing sameness and French attitudes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks to this, I am in a great long term relationship
Before I watched this video I had no idea about ejaculating women. I'd heard about it but I thought it was an uban myth. But in this video I learned all about it and about how honored its been for thousands of years.

Then I was with a woman who ejaculated, and I was able to understand what was going on and I was able to honor her for the beautiful thing that she was sharing with me.

And what was really beautiful was that she was so grateful to me for being able to not be freaked out and to be supportive and excited by what was going on. She said I was the first man who had not shamed her for this.

Now we are in a committed long-term relationship and we have great sex all the time, largely because of what I learned from this video, and I am very grateful.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Well Done
The presenter of this video is so heartfelt and committed to what he is doing. So sincere, so honest and full of integrity. It is very obvious when you watch this that he cares very much and believes in what he is doing. It is rare to find a work that is this honest and in which a performer makes himself so vulnerable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What would we do without Sheri?
Not only did we enjoy this DVD for
it's sincere and human approach by
a warm and dedicated instructor, Sheri
answered all, and I mean all of our
questions and concerns regarding
what was ultimately a life changing
experience. Her knowledge, cheerful communication
style and innate charisma allowed us to watch
with ease and clarity. Whether you have had
private instuction already, or are using this
DVD as your main instructional source, you
will be
thrilled with what you come away with. We know that
this video prepared us both physicallly and emotionally
in order to participate and witness the gift of
creating life. It doesn't get better than that!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I ordered this video because we are living overseas and couldn't find a live class in English. I'm giving it 2 stars because it's better than nothing, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. The production quality is quite low - the volume fluctuates and there are are very few visuals. It's just a film of the instructor talking to about five couples on a bare stage. Both my husband and I found the instructor annoying, especially her whiny impressions of women in labor. Putting together a DVD class is a great idea but could have been done much better, especially considering the price.

3-0 out of 5 stars good basic info
This dvd provides good basic information if you cannot attend childbirth classes from a hospital. But the instructor is annoying, and the person with the camera is too. It was worth the annoyances for me, though... cheaper and far more flexible than the hospital classes.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was hooked from the first minute!
Sheri has a fantastic way of mixing humour with an incredible amount of knowledge. She is not wasting your time.Every moment is filled with important information so sometimes I had to pause and take a breath...
I could feel myself starting to relax and feel confidence replace my questions and worries.
This video is everything you need to understand it all very clearly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Expectations Delivers!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this DVD! We watched this DVD a couple of weeks before our delivery and are so glad that we did. These classes had us so well prepared that when things in the delivery room didn't go exactly according to plan,we understood what was happening and knew how to deal with it. 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST TRAINING AID OUT THERE!
I've had this DVD now for just a few days and my dogs can already sit, stay, go potty, down etc. Best training aid I've tried yet. Only problem is getting a lowfat treat, I don't want my dogs getting fat. I also suggest you train your dogs seperated from each other, and use a variety of treats. I use everything from cat food pieces to hot dog chunks. My dogs love me! They can hardly contain themselves, They are so happy! I even trained my cat to come and sit using the same methods. Get this DVD you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Positively WORKS - and it's soooooooo easy!!!
WOW! HAS THIS TRAINING WORKED!!!!!!!!

Our Border Collie pup is now 15 weeks. I've been using the techniques from this DVD for 2 weeks now, and had IMMEDIATE results.

I'm using a clicker in conjunction with training treats, which has been an unbelievable success. We've even SURPASSED the skills on the video, and have come up with new ones of our own, using the same techniques, with no difficulty.

One tip: because you use SO many treats for "payment/reward", I decided to go to a well stocked pet store and look for a soft, small size kibble food to use for treats. I found one that is low cal/light - as I don't want to get off on the wrong foot and accidentally pile the pounds on a growing puppy (very hard on joints/growth plates to have an overfed pup).

There is no time wasted in this training dvd with small talk or lectures... they get right to the point in a clear, precise, no non-sense manner.

These gals have a very gentle technique: soft voices, smiling faces, all of which they present in a calm/peaceful atmosphere. Clearly, they have a genuine affection and respect for dogs - and that translates into training US to be the same (more compassionate and patient dog owners).

This program is extremely suitable for young children to use as well. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it - its nearly on repeat
Get this! I have watched it on repeat over and over and its useful as soon as you get the puppy (crate training, toys) to later on for basic training such as sit, heel. Don't get the Puppy Smarts video - its so simple and costly in comparison. Doggy Cuts was fun too, but its not easy to use in DVD format. But it really beats reading a book when you are staring at your pup to see another pup getting trained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try this before spending a lot of money with a trainer
Read the other reviews and decided to get this DVD, and were very pleased with it. In fact, it was better than we had thought an instructional DVD could be on this subject. It is professionally done, and easy to navigate. Really appreciated that they used a wide range of dog breeds, as well as different ages and temperments. Saw immediate, positive results. Plus it was fun to watch casually, and then apply their advice as the circumstances permitted. Our young daughter would get so enthused from the video, that she would immediately want to try out tips right away. Yes, there are certainly times when a trainer/behaviourist is valuable, but why spend good money on one of them for many basic and mid-level training methods that you can get from this video? Then, if a trainer does work with you and your dog, you are not wasting time and money on simple training tasks. Also, it may help you assess what sort of trainer might be best for your dog, if you subsequently decide you need some extra help from one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing results, even on my strong willed dog
This DVD has been amazing for me and my dog ginger. Ginger is a Jindo mix, a hunting breed that is known for being strong willed and difficult to train. I've bought a few books and where they have failed, this DVD has succeeded. She has gone from pulling on her leash and having very selective hearing to understanding how to walk on leash, heel, sit and we're working on other commands.

The DVD is clear and shows you exactly how to do things with real dogs, unlike books that spend half a page telling you just how to hold a leash and end up just confusing. ... Read more

Description

My Baby Can Talk - First Signs has been honored with prestigious awards from Parents’ Choice Foundation, the National Parenting Center, iParenting Media Awards and Kids First! Crying is one way that your baby can communicate with you – we would like to offer another. Research has shown that babies are able to communicate at a much earlier age than they are able to speak. Babies taught to use sign language before they can speak are better adjusted, speak sooner with larger vocabularies and boast higher IQ scores than their peers. This early form of communication also reduces frustration and creates a stronger bond between babies and their parents.

My Baby Can Talk - First Signs educates and entertains, engaging both you and your baby so that you can learn to sign together. Brightly colored toys, beautiful live footage, engaging images and a young baby signing captivate your baby and as a result your baby learns to sign.

This DVD is the first and only baby signing video that features a young baby signing all of the words presented. This demonstrates that babies can, in fact, sign. It also shows the way in which babies are likely to sign since most babies use an adapted version of the formal ASL sign. In addition, all the signs are presented by an adult to ensure that the most pristine form of each ASL sign is demonstrated.

My Baby Can Talk - First Signs was specifically developed to respect the developmental stage, attention span and intellect of babies from 10 to 24 months. This DVD teaches elementary signs, based upon American Sign Language (ASL), that include some of the first words that are most loved by babies set to classical music by Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and Vivaldi.

MyBabyCanTalk.com is a premier resource center on the Internet for babies and signing featuring detailed tutorials, background research, and a video dictionary with more than 200 ASL signs that are most important to and appropriate for babies and toddler. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No more dreading temper tantrums
Dear Amazon,
I posted a review 2 days ago then realized that I made a mistake.

It should read:

After having so much success with the Happiest Baby on the Block calming techniques, I could not wait to watch The Happiest Toddler on the Block by Harvey Karp,M.D.

My 22 month old grandson began to scream when I told him it was time to go inside. I spoke "toddlerese" with much expression as suggested by Dr. Karp.
I said, " No No No" you do not want to go inside.
He looked at me very surprised.
I said, "No No No" you do not want to go inside.
He looked at me again with his mouth wide open.
I said again, "No No No you do not want to go inside, but we must take sister to potty."

---------he came with me without protest. In the past he would have continued screaming for about 5 minutes and
I would have picked him up kicking and screaming.

Now I can't wait to read the book The Happiest Toddler on the Block to get more helpful suggestions for the children in my family and in my practice.

Phyllis Meer,RN, BSN,CPNP
and proud grandmother of 4.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, but buy the book too!
The DVD is a great compliment to the book. It's so helpful to see Dr. Karp's techniques in action. However, if you haven't read the book, I think the DVD may leave you with many questions because it doesn't go into nearly as much detail as the book does. So my advice is to buy the book too!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best DVD of the decade.
The more you watch it the more sense it makes. We have three boys ages 3, 3, and 6. As you begin to put the techniques into practice you observe the change in your child almost right away. At first it feels odd but with practice all these techniques become second nature. The gossiping works like a charm on kids almost any age. The todler-eze helps toddlers as well as older kids to come out of the impasse and save face. Feeding the meter and other delightful and simple methods all contribute to the child's well being and makes the parent/ child relationship richer and a stronger bond, for life.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am now the Happiest Parent
Excellent and refreshing way of looking at the world from how a toddler see's it and then how we as parents can effectively communicate in that toddler world. The fast food repeating technique was especially helpful. My son responded to it immediately, it's not a cure all but very helpful. Also enjoyable to watch, not boring at all which sometime these things can be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Parenting Advice
This DVD is not only informative, it's entertaining as well. The message (using "toddlerese" to connect with your child) was consistently relayed, cohesive and universally appealing. We watched real parents dealing with VERY real kids in the kinds of situations we all experience (fighting over toys, going to bed, etc etc). Frankly, I think this DVD should be packaged with Dr. Karp's book "Happiest Toddler on the Block," as it's imperative to watch and know exactly how to use the method (and to do it without feeling as if you're "teasing" or speaking down to your child). My husband and I have both watched it and are following Dr. Karp's method. Are we happy? You bet. Our 2-year-old's tantrums have gone down at least 75% (both frequency and duration). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Sign Language Tool Available!
I got a LOT of Sign language videos and books our of the library before I bought these. I just could not learn signs from a book. I needed to see it. I like these dvd's the best because they're fun and use music to help teach some of the signs. My son likes these because of all the kids signing. Even my husband likes them and has learned these signs. This is the DVD we started with and these were the first signs he used. We got these at 9 months and 13 months he started signing MORE, MILK, BIRD, DOG, AIRPLANE all in a one week period. We can't say enough good things about Signing Time! and we are eagerly awaiting volumes 4,5, and 6. I just wish we got these when he was born. I won't wait to start signing with my next child.

5-0 out of 5 stars best video to learn signing with your kids
The Signing Time series is wonderful because it's fun and full of smiles and facial gestures that are totally lacking in other videos. Anyone who has seen sign in action knows that sign language has lots of facial gestures to help communicate what is being signed. This series not only has cute animation but the two children are delightful and so happy. The mother who signs is wonderful to watch and hear. The kids in our playgroup (we all have hearing children) really enjoy watching the videos and learn SO QUICKLY (especially if they are over 12 mos. old). I would and DO recommend this as your first video to learn sign language, children OR adults.
The only criticism I have with the video (and others) is why do they have to teach the sign for "cookie" to children!?! I can't tell you how quickly my son picked THAT one up, much to my chagrin. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this video
My 2 and 1/2 year old son has a speech delay. These video's saved us. He would grunt for everything. Now, if he wants a cookie, he uses that sign. I couldn't believe it worked. I thought there was no way, but it did. He is learning to talk but for the words he can't say, this video is the best! Plus I have learned sign language myself along with my other two children. They can understand my son and help him to remember signs. It is worth every penny! By the 3rd time he watched one of the video's he started to sign to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SIGNING VIDEOS OUT THERE!
I purchased all three Signing Time videos when my son was 6 months old. He is almost two now and still loves the videos! He knows and practices ALL the signs from Signing Time 1,2 and 3! He signs while speaking, which is very helpful when new verbal words are spoken! Don't pass these videos up! You won't be dissapointed if you are serious about teaching your child to sign!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids AND parents
We decided to start signing with our infant son in order to help him learn langauge and to communicate with him on some level. We were surprised how much Signing Time helped him get into signing. The video is fun to watch and seeing other children do their versions of the signs seemed to help our son. Seeing the very young signers also helps us recognize his version of a sign, since some signs are a little beyond infant motor skills. This first volume is maybe a little less polished than the next two in the series, but I heartily reccomend getting all three! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars my 20 month old is benefiting from this
My 20 month old son is speech delayed and we have had this DVD for about a month now. He really loves it. He has learned some of the signs already and I think this can only help him. I always watch it with him and we work on this together. I do recommend this for other moms. I think it would even be great for younger babies who don't even have speech delays.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excited about my daughter's response to this DVD
My daughter is 2.5 years old, has autism, and has just begun to talk. She responded with great enthusiasm to this DVD, vocalizing the entire time she watched it. And whereas she has never been able/willing to imitate facial expressions in person, she tries to imitate the faces in this DVD, which may help her with her oral motor difficulties. And she picked up the sign language much quicker from the DVD than she does in person. It's hard to tell whether this will actually help with her speech development, since she is already developing rapidly at this time, but it's worth the price just for the entertainment value!!! She's watched it once each day for four days now, and still loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! This DVD really works!
I purchased this DVD a week ago after being told that my son was showing signs of having a developemental delay. My son will run to the TV when I put this DVD in and he will sit or dance while watching it. He has added to his vocabulary almost 100% and is able to use the sign language that is shown in this DVD. I am amazed and thrilled at the results. I would recommend this DVD for anyone who is looking for help in regards to late talking little ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars helped my late talker!
I was concerned with my child's speech at 14 mos. She was only using a couple of words and was not babbling very much. This video was recommended on the Baby Center online language and learning concerns bulletin board so I thought I would give it a try. My daughter responded to the video the first time I put it in! She copied some of the sounds and imitated some noises. Plus it kept her attention! It has jump-started her babbling and she continues to enjoy it each time she watches it. Now she says all the words in the video and more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Incredible Series from James Burke
Whether the second series of Connections is better or worse that the original is a matter of some arguement, but that they are both great is not. Why? Because for once someone was able to communicate history in an exciting and faciating form, showing that every person, event, or invention relates in some way to every other. Imagine a "six degrees of separation" through history, mix in a strong sense of how to tell the _story_ of history, add in a wicked sense of humor and wit, and you might have some idea of the brilliance of this show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
I can't get over how much my son LOVES this DVD! He is fascinated with the kids and will give this his complete attention. We bought the three DVD set and he watches them all interchangeably. This has great songs to help you and your child learn the signs. My husband never would have learned these on his own. Now my son is 13 months old and is starting to sign and trying to say the words as he signs. It is so amazing. Completely worth every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son and I love these videos!! WONDERFUL!!!
My son has a birth defect that causes speech delay. He had been going to speech therapy for months in which they were trying to teach him sign so he could communicate in some way until he could speak. Months and month he didnt sign one word until we bought the signing time videos, the next day he was signing and is now up to 40 signs in 2 months and still going strong! He is so happy to be communicating and he thinks it is fun! I highly recommend these videos to EVERY parent, my husband and I love to watch them to and the music is awesome!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible stuff!
Really impressed. Tremendous quality.

Someone else in a review mentioned that none of the three DVD's in the series had "please" and "thank you". Well, mine sure do, so either that person got a different editions - or they have made an error.

Vol 2 of the series has a section called "Magic Words". Under that section you will see the signs for:

Please, Share, your turn, my turn and Thank you.

Again, best stuff that I have ever seen on signing. Very engaging, cute, and well done!

I ordered mine straight from the company and they arrived about 48 hours later!

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first one!
I purchased volumes 1-3 of the Signing Time video series a few weeks ago. While volume 1 ("My First Signs" - with 18 signs) is very good, volumes 2 ("Playtime Signs" - with 30 signs) and 3 ("Everyday Signs" - with 29 signs) are even better. The biggest improvement is that the two newer videos include many catchy, original songs to help viewers learn the signs. Another change is that signs are presented in groups (e.g., hot & cold, friend & play, etc) rather than individually. The other changes I noticed are: better filming, less repetition of each sign (this is probably how they managed to squeeze more signs into the newer videos) and the addition of a new "extra feature" called "Putting it Together". This is a segment where Rachel (co-creator of the series) gives helpful hints about using ASL (American Sign Language). I really like this segment, but it's much too short. Finally, the last change I noticed is that Rachel appears much more at ease in the new videos.

The videos didn't come with a parent's guide, but I found helpful information on the signingtime.com website. The website also includes information on the benefits of teaching your child sign language and sample clips from each of the vidoes (which is what sold me on buying these).

For those who aren't familiar with this series:
The "Signing Time" videos are targeted to young hearing children (0-5 years), though they are a wonderfully non-threatening way for persons of any age to learn sign language. You don't need to already know ASL in order to help your child learn the signs in the videos - but you should be prepared to learn the signs so you can incorporate them into your daily routine. The videos are quite thorough - with each sign being demonstrated a couple of times by Rachel, and then several more times by a variety of children. The narration on the videos is done primarily by young children. The signs are linked well with the objects, emotions, etc., that they represent. The children in the videos are "real" - demonstrating the signs in their own imperfect ways, according to their abilities - much the same as when children learn to speak with their voices. There is cute animation and background music with sound effects that make the videos fun to watch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Me gusta!
I wanted my 4-year old to start learning a foreign language now since most people seem to think the earlier, the better. Spanish seemed the obvious choice since it's so useful for career and travel.

I am buying her a variety of tools so that she maintains her interest in learning the language. Since she loves her Wiggles videos, I knew she would enjoy this learning format. She really enjoys "Learn Spanish with Carlos and Chiquita" and wants to watch the DVD over and over again. The characters are appealing and the music is fantastic - especially the salsa song with the farm animal sounds.

The video is broken down into six vignettes showing different daily situations. I liked the fact that the video not only shows what kids say, but also what parents say to kids. I "role-played" some of the lines with my daughter (I picked up some Spanish as well). She is also repeating some of the phrases in the video on her own.

The accompanying learning booklet is easy to read and not overwhelming. Overall, a fun and useful learning tool.

I am thrilled with "Learn Spanish with Carlos and Chiquitita". My Son Steven and I both enjoyed the fun energetic format. Although I bought it for my son, I also benefited from the lesson plans. I was most pleased and surprised with just how much I learned from the simple and upbeat musical pieces. My son is still singing them this morning. He was so enthralled with the DVD that he has been asking for his own Chiquitita. I am sure we will go through this curriculum again and again. It is a wonderful product. Thank you very much Language Tree.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
This is mainly directed towards hearing children. I am amazed at how quickly my two children (ages 3 and 4) picked up on many of these signs and use them daily.

There is a word shown on the screen (mother, for example) and then the lady demonstrates the sign with a description of the sign (you touch your thumb to your chin). Then you see many mothers and many kids signing mother.

This one has a lot of songs on it and they are fun songs too.

This is well worth the money and very fun.
Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun For the Whole Family!
We bought all three of the Signing Time! DVD's for our son when he was 9 months old. We watch one a day and I think this one is our favorite. We love the Silly Pizza song. I wish we had bought these sooner! My son thinks these are great and now he's signing and trying to say the words as well at just 13 months. It is so wonderful to be able to know what he is thinking about already. I recommend these to everyone! I can't wait until the next three come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing videos, my son was up to 40 signs in 2 mos!

5-0 out of 5 stars I had to say something
I wanted to say something in response to the reviewer who claimed that there isn't much ethnic diversity in the cast, and that boys don't play with dolls, etc. In my Signing Time videos (which I assume are the same as theirs :), there are quite a few children who appear to be from non-white or mixed ethnic origin (I counted seven of them in one ten-minute segment of one of the videos - not to mention the white children who appear to be from Scandanavian or Irish ancestry). As for the implication that the videos only depict "traditional" male/female roles - according to my memory, the videos show boys hugging teddy bears, girls playing soccer, dads and grandpas holding babies and children, a female police officer, a grandpa and grandma doing dishes together, a boy riding a pink bike, and so on. It's funny how in today's society people demand that both diversity and sameness be emphasized (i.e., it's imperative to recognize diversity in races/religions, but genders have to be neutral?). It seems pretty clear to me that the Signing Time people made an effort to be "politically correct". True, there are more white children than children of color, but that just reflects the population where the videos were filmed. I hope that most parents appreciate that kids' attitudes are influenced more by what their parents model to them than by what they see on TV.

That said, let me say that the "Signing Time" videos are pure delight. Besides doing an excellent job of teaching signs, they depict happy children and happy families having fun together - something we all need to see more often.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of this series
Of these videos in the "Signing Time!" series, this one has the most signs and the most songs. ("Music? In a sign lanaguage video?" Yes, this is a sign language video for hearing childern! There is even an audio CD of the music.) The "Silly Pizza" song uses repetition (in a very fun way) to reinforce a number of signs.

This video can be enjoyed over and over again by both children and adults. The music is a kind of light/folky rock that appeals to both age groups.

[small side point: not much ethnic diversity in the cast. Also, in these videos boys don't play with dolls. They do play football, however.] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Signing Time does it again...
Rachel has such a way of teaching kids to sign and have fun the whole time. There have been signs I've been working with my son for a few years that he showed little interest in. Until we got this volume and suddenly, he started signing them enthusiastically! As with the previous volumes of Signing Time, William (4½) quickly learned all the signs in it. He loves singing and signing along with Rachel, Alex and Leah.
I know some parents are concerned that signing might impede their child's speech development, but we have found just the opposite here. William has Trisomy 21/aka Down syndrome and apraxia. Signing Time has helped him with Total Communication~ when his speech hasn't been clear, the signing helps him refine the word. I've found that as he watches Signing Time and the repetition of each new word introduced, William is more apt to repeat the word with greater clarity each time. He loves to go around labeling things he's learned from the videos, and then he wants to know more, more more!
This is another must-have for a video library!

1-0 out of 5 stars A must have for ALL PARENTS!
I have all of the Signing Time DVD's.. and this one is a must have! It's fun to watch and learn WITH your child! I have a 20 month old son that has full hearing and he can't live without these videos! He signs all day long! The songs are wonderful.
I had downloaded "Beautiful Day" from the signingtime.com website before the DVD's were released and my son went CRAZY for it!I LOVE the song. It's so poppy and happy.Besides the "LMNO" song from the Vol. 5 ABC Signs, it's my favorite!
I can't say enough about these DVD's... BUY IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

And it's all ASL, so we are learning a second language.Kuddos to Signing Time!!

There’s no sound more thrilling than the walking bass notes and driving chords of traditional gospel piano, and there is no better way to learn it than from this 2-DVD set. Dr. Ethel Caffie-Austin, a formidable pianist, vocalist and educator, is steeped in the traditions and styles of the black church. She has a clear and concise teaching method and a desire to get you playing this heartfelt and inspirational music, even if you have never played it before.

4-0 out of 5 stars My wife bought this program for our kids
and I have to admit that it's not half bad for a drivers ed video. The graphics are nice and all the information you're looking for is easy to find. The multiple choice question quizzes are easy, but not half bad for preparing for the test I suppose.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This Read The Manuel Instead
Cheesey video, bad interface, offers little instruction, tests are too easy to be useful. Save the money and go take a driving lesson from a licensed instructor instead. We purchased this to help with parallel parking. The topic is mentioned on the video but there is virtually no instruction. And so it goes with most of the other topics.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective, and cheaper than auto repairs and hospital bills
This was a birthday present to my daughter and it was quite a hit... pardon the pun.

I struggled with whether to give this 4 stars or 5. The user interface (UI) is a bit clunky, but the content and instruction is worth of the 5 stars.

The DVD tries to be interesting -- and it is interesting -- although it is borderline cheesey in the process. The important thing is the viewer won't bore easily with repetitive viewing which is important when you are getting something instructional like this.

At the end of sections, the DVD has a small quiz. That is a good idea, but the quizes are a little obvious and easy.

I guess the most appealing thing about this is it is easily increasing her abilities while she does what she does best: watch TV. That helps keep insurance costs down, I guess. ;-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent experience!
This is simply wonderful. Consider this a must have before getting your driver's license. It cuts through the theory and instead shows the practical things.

It has very nice sections explaining how to drive as well as 3D illustrations where they show parallel parking etc. I really liked the ability to be able to watch at different angles etc. It is well worth the price. The only reason for 4 stars is that it misses 3 point turns but so does the state's driver's manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great program
This program clearly has solid merit. It is very thorough and does the video does not seem like cheesey educational video stuff. Sometimes there's a few silly jokes, but nothing that would turn you away from the program. I was pleasantly surprised by the 3d illustrations -- thinking that they would be a really stupid gimick -- but they turned out to be quite useful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can I give this a 5+++++++++??
This volume needs to be in every preschool and elementary school, public library and every home video library. Since we got this one in December, my son has gone around the house and his classroom obsessed with the alphabet. He can identify, sign and say every letter, and can discriminate between upper and lower case letters. At the mall the other day, he said and signed every letter on the 'target' sign. When we sing the 'A is for Alex and Alligator' song from this volume, he adds other words to it himself, and proudly says "W~ William!"! Not only has it helped him verbally, but he is refining his fine motor skills too! William is 4½ and has Trisomy 21/aka Down syndrome. The Signing Time series has been so helpful in all areas of learning.
Signing Time is 'Superbly Terrific'! and this one is a necessity!

5-0 out of 5 stars We learned SO MUCH with Signing Times!
If you ever wanted to sign with your child but didn't think you had time to learn yourself - this is the EASY and FUN way to learn together. When we started signing with our daughter Sadie at 9 months we didn't know more than a couple. Now that she is 2, we all know over 100 signs. Now that she is talking --She uses her words AND signs to help communication her desires. It's wonderful to be able to understand the sign she uses even when the word doesn't make any sense.

Don't miss this wonderful set of DVD's!

5-0 out of 5 stars ABC this Wonderful video
I cannot begin to tell you how much of an impact the Signing Time videos have on my son Ethan. He is more verbal and incredibly excited about learning something new each and every time we watch these videos.
This tape was so good even my husband is singing the songs and enjoying himself.

I have all of the Signing Time DVD's... but this one is my favorite. The reason?Learning the ABC's REALLY makes it easier to remember OTHER SIGNS!You get great songs and learn other signs that go with each letter (i.e. alligator, baseball bat, careful...).The Special Features is wonderful as well as Rachel goes over all the ADDITIONAL signs that go with the alphabet! That's a LOT OF SIGNS!
My son is 19 months old (has total hearing) and has been saying the alphabet for about 2 months now.It took him 8 days and he is now starting to SIGN his ABC's, too!
I swear by all of this videos... the DVD's, the CD's... My son is in love with them and I love learning as he is learning!
