4-0 out of 5 stars Literally
Living in New England, my running routine has somewhat gone down the tubes due to the frigid weather. Plus my class schedule has so many 8-5 days in it that I don't have time to hit the gym. SO, I decided just after Thanksgiving to start doing a workout tape regime that would kill less time and still keep me in shape.

My first tape...Callanetics. Great sculpting workout, but no cardio. The immediate first thought...Tae Bo. I have a lot of friends who sang the praises of Billy Blanks, but I had yet to see myself what cardio kickboxing was all about. I bought the DVD version (1) because it was actually cheaper than the tapes and (2) had all the tapes rolled up into one slim package that would probably last longer anyway.

I did what the instructions told me and did the introductory workout first. This teaches you the basics of the moves he likes to incorporate into the routines. Although I feel that he could have explained some of the positions better (i.e., when you do the roundhouse kicks, turn the foot you're standing on OUT...it will help twist your hips down so you can lift your leg as high as possible while working out your gluteal muscles...he doesn't emphasize this, just tells you to keep your hand on your hip and kick to the side), you find out his workout is relatively simple in technique. However, he warns you that he CAN and WILL make it more PHYSICALLY difficult as you progress.

I then advanced to the basics workout. Being an avid runner and gym rat, I found this to be a pretty decent workout. Built up a respectable sweat and felt empowered...just pictured kicking ex-boyfriends in the face. :) Plus, I surprised myself with how fierce I can feel...really lets out stress and remains fun.

The advanced workout...whoa. Not for the faint of heart. 45 minutes of cardio with many many many fast sequences of kicks and jabs that will make you feel like a puppet being yanked in eight different directions...it's great. :) Then, the floor work...you probably have never done so many doggy-lifts in your life! Killer! :) I highly recommend this DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Taebo will get you going!
I have been doing power yoga, jump roping, running, power walking, some martial arts (at studios) and a little weight lifting and I couldn't even get toned. I was still getting slightly depressed and I felt my motivation go down. BUT then I luckily found Taebo. Billy Blanks is this incredible motivator that really gets you going. Before I got to an advanced level I started to see stomach muscle tone and overall lean muscle tone--it's really amazing. Yes, you should spend an extra 15 min of stretching prior and after each workout, but if Billy Blanks were to have included a stretch out in the videos than it would have been boring. Yes, the music [is bad]. However, you can get over those petty concerns if you take your fitness goals seriously. Don't whine, get off your seat and just do it! I'm now doing Taebo 5X a week and cardio 1X a week--despite the fact that I have recently recieved radiation treatment for Grave's disease (and will require a life time of meds). You can transcend any emotional pain in your life by your pure determinism!

4-0 out of 5 stars They could have picked better music!!!
I love TaeBo, but it's a little difficult to get pumped up to elevator hiphop! Please! Overall, the workout is awesome. I saw results in 2 weeks, and it makes me feel strong, sexy, and empowered (I just picture kicking and punching my ex-husband in the face when I need that extra boost! LOL). This is worth the money. Maybe when you get the moves down, you could crank up some real music to kick-butt to!

1-0 out of 5 stars ordered and e-bay cancel
I order this DVd for $20 two days later E-bay cancel my order an
said they had no more. Now I look on e-bay they have the same
taebo DVD at a higher cost???Is this a rip off or what?

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, It Really Works
I have had to work to control my weight since puberty. I have been working out since I was 16 yrs. old and of all the things I have tried, I have never gotten into shape as fast as I did with Tae-Bo. About a month and a half after I began the workout, people were asking me what I was doing. I was so pleased with the results! And not only do you lose weight quick, but you feel so much better! Strong and energized. I thought what I payed was pretty inexpensive after seeing what it did for me. ... Read more

Kick to Get Fit Jr. is an exercise program designed specifically for kids. Different than anything you've ever seen.

Children love to exercise along with this program! The moves are easy to follow along with, while being fun & exciting enough to keep kids interested.

This program involves some of the same effective movements found in Martial Arts & fitness classes, but uses a NON-VIOLENT APPROACH. The muscles mechanics are exactly the same, but the violent characteristics of throwing a punch has been eliminated. INACTIVITY HAS LEAD TO OBESITY & POOR HEALTH IN CHILDREN EVERYWHERE - KICK TO GET FIT JR. WILL GET THEM MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Do it for your Kids - BUY IT
There really isn't a lot I can say that hasn't already been said by the other reviews. This program is AWESOME - Period!!!
Get your kids up, get them active. Is this possible? Yes, choose this program.
Great Job!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible, Great, Excellent
This is absolutely the most incredible program I've EVER seen. I generally don't write reviews, because most exercise programs I've seen don't deserve the time it takes to write one. So if I'm taking the time to write this one, let me tell you it is worth it. The words incredible, great, and excellent don't even come close to describing this program, I just couldn't think of any more powerful words to use.
The guy on this video, Rich Grogan, has really got something with this program. First of all he is fun, and entertaining for the kids. And the kids that are actually in the video are having fun (genuine fun, none of this paid actors fun), they're feeding off of Rich's positive energy, and having a good time with it. This is one of the major hooks that pulls you in, these kids are glowing with fun, energy, and excitement, and it is basically thrown into your living room when you watch the video. My kids at home can't just sit on the couch and watch this program, they have to get up and actually do the program. It is almost like some super-natural force grabs them and pulls them on the floor to begin exercising with Rich & the kids. I know this may sound strange, and I am sure some people are saying to themselves, "there is NO way my kid would be this excited about an exercise program". Well, I'm telling you it is true. And, it's not like my kids have only watched the program once or twice, we have basically wore out our VHS copy, and that is why we bought the DVD, which is even better, because now we can skip through to certain parts of the program when we are short on time. What I've been doing in the mornings, before summer camp, I'll get the kids up and pick a section of the video (DVD) and have them do that section before we leave for summer camp, or do the same at night before bed. I really would have thought by now that my kids would be tired of this video, but the way Rich has set the program up, it is still challenging for them. Rich continually tells the kids to have fun, and to do their very best, and to just do what they can. But he makes the program so darn fun that the kids really apply themselves, and do what they can to become better at the moves. Anyway, Rich does sets of 15 instead of the normal set of 5 or 10, this way, as he explains it, the kids can continue to advance within the program, because maybe they can only do 5 push ups or jumping jacks when they first start the program, but the goal is to reach 15, so they have to keep practicing at it. Another interesting thing Rich does is, he has the kids visualize they are grabbing apples & oranges instead of punching each other, or an imaginary opponet. At first I thought this was a little goofy, but once again as Rich explains it, it takes the violent aspect out of the technique, it makes it more fun for the kids, and if the kids pretend they are grabbing something they get a better stretch throughout the entire movement, both forward & back.
Did I say this video was Incredible?
I could list about 10 more things, but I think you get the picture. I'm telling you, BUY THIS FOR YOUR KIDS, it's amazing!
Hey Rich, if you read this, Your program is the greatest! Thank you from me & my kids!
Sincerely,
Thomas Jacobbson & Family

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful fitness video for kids
This is an absolute wonderful video. This is a great workout for the kids, but it isn't too fast or too tough. I've seen several kid's videos, and of course the kids liked them, but they quickly lost interest because it was too fast or too tough, or too boring. This is one reason the kids love this video, it is very exciting & fun, and THEY CAN DO IT, which gives them a sense of accomplishment. Don't get me wrong, the video still provides the kids with a challenge, but it is a challenge they can overcome with practice. And practice is what my kids do with this video, we've had this video for 2 months, and the kids still enjoy doing it. Unbelievable, considering the fact that kids are bored with most things after one use.
Give this one a shot, you'll be impressed!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!
This program is 100% great. My kids love this video, they can't get enough of it. I bet we have played this video 20 times, and they still ask to watch it again. The children in this video are truly having a great time, and it shows. They are feeding off of Mr. Grogan's energy & his great personality, and just having a fun time. My kids, and I am sure most kids enjoy watching other kids have fun, it just makes them want to be a part of it, and that is what this video does. It makes the kids feel like they are part of the class. 5 Stars & 2 Thumbs up for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW - The most incredible program I've ever seen
This program is absolutely amazing. I have NEVER seen kids respond to a program, (especially an exercise program) the way kids respond to this one. I just put the tape (Now the DVD)in and the kids are lost in a world of exercise. I am sure this sounds crazy, especially how kids are today about exercising, but I swear it's the truth. I read several of the other reviews and I wasn't quite sure my kids would be as wrapped up in the video as others had stated. - I was wrong. My kids LOVE IT, we have played the tape over 25 times, and now we have the DVD (which is great), and I don't know how many times we are going to play it.
Take my word for it, this program is the most incredible program I've ever seen for kids. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but not if international buyer
I have many tae bo dvds and as they are scarce in the UK I buy the US through various sites. I was disappointed to find that this set did not come with the bands, as noted by other reviewers. I have managed to purchase them through collagevideo.com. Otherwise, this program is both innovative and everything you can come to expect from tae bo and then some. Definitely not for a beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging for Advanced!
First, allow me to answer the "Billy Bands" question so many have in below comments. If you cannot buy "Billy Bands" then go to your local sporting goods store and purchase any resistance bands. They are the same thing. Or you can use wrist and ankle weights if you cannot find resistance bands.

Now, I must say that this is a wonderful highly effective work-out. I have taken Cardio Kickboxing (Tae-Bo) for six years, and taught it for the last three years. I am definately in the advanced category. I've done some of Billy's work-outs at home once-in-a-while. Most were interesting, some too easy for me, some a good work-out. The Fat Blasting 2-Pack which includes Total Body Fat Blaster and the Fat Blasting Cardio DVD's are the best that Billy has put out. The bands are fun and I sometimes alternate with free weights to achieve different results. My husband enjoys doing them with me and we both think these are very challenging cardio work-outs. Keep in mind that these realy are pure Cardio with very little, if any, ab work. However, if you have done any Tae-Bo before or have taken a Cardio Kickboxing class in a studio, then your proper form will work your abs enough during the work-out.

I would not recommend this work-out for beginners. I also urge anyone that is interested in Tae-Bo or has only done it at home to take a couple of Cardio Kickbox classes at a local Martial Arts Studio (not a health club). You will be surprised how hard it is to get the form correct without live instruction... and improper form leads to injury or slow results.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you really want to hurt
This is the workout for you.The first time I did it, I had not ordered the resistance bands. It did not seem to do much without the bands.I had been doing the Advanced Tae-Bo before this.Well, I finally got the bands (it takes about 3-4 weeks to get them), and it is extremely challenging.I have not been able to get through the whole thing yet.I am slowly working my way up so I am not so sore that I cannot walk the next day.If you want to burn fat, tone, and gain muscle I highly reccomend this DVD.Be prepared to sweat and hurt!

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware if you live outside the US or Canada
A word of warning - if you live outside the US or Canada you will find it extremely difficult to find the resistance bands used on this DVD.Don't bother trying to buy them from the offical Tae Bo website - they won't ship to you if you live overseas. Although the workout is still good without the bands, it is very frustrating to see how much better it could be and not be able to join in. I think it is poor planning to make the DVD available to anyone in the world but not the products that accompany it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
Hi, I bought this DVD from your site a wee while ago. It is a GREAT workout, I really recommend it. What I want to know is, how can I buy Billy Bands from outside the US/Canada? I'm in New Zealand, and would really like to be able to add this resistance option to my workout... any comments/suggestions? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Cardio Workout
Like the other Quick Fix workouts, I love this DVD. It combines cardio with toning so if you are able to do all 4 segments, you get a great total body workout including the cardio. The moves are not difficult which lends to a better cardio effect. I like to do 2 or 3 segments and combine it with the Arm and Leg workout plus one of the Ab segments from the Quick Fix Total Mix DVD for an excellent total body workout.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good quick workouts- not very challenging though
If you are looking for short cardio workouts this DVD is for you. Each section has a different focus- one for upper, one for lower and one for core. The upper section has lots of punching, lower has lots of kicking and the core section has a little of everything.
I like Janis' instruction and I enjoyed the DVD but it was pretty easy. Each section has its own warmup so if you do the dvd straight through you have to warm up and cool down three times which is irritating. I also didn't think the core section was particularly effective.
This is a great kickboxing dvd for beginners and for light workout days. I was really hoping for more, though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout to Mix Things UP
This was my first Tae Bo DVD, so I can't really compare it to what the others were like. I teach pilates, spinning classes and aqua aerobics 2-3 times per week and on my own I run and do yoga. I just wanted some other type of workout for the one day a week that I wasn't doing any of the other things.

I thought it was great because it did get my heart rate up, although not like a challenging cycle class, but I knew I was burning calories. I also discovered a couple of muscles that must not be getting a good workout from the other activities. All in all, it was fun and a good way for me to mix things up from my regular weekly routine.

Yes, the music is a little repetitive and the people counting to eight constantly can be a little irritating, but I also think you can find something wrong with every single video you do, so whatever. It did it's job- good workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
when i got this dvd in the mail i was so excited because i have all of the advanced tae bo videos, including the get ripped series and i was hoping this would be a new advanced dvd. well, it's not. also, the music is really awful. very repetitive. i love the exuberance of his older videos, where u could see a ton of people working out behind him. there was always something new to look at. now the only interesting person to look at, besides billy blanks himself, is his daughter shelley. not that that's a bad thing. she's a walking advertisement for all the good things tae bo can do for your body.
so if you're into a slower workout, go for this one. if not, don't bother.

2-0 out of 5 stars TaeDon't
I bought this DVD looking forward to yet another great Billy Banks workout. This did not happen. I didn't even break a sweat. I would recommend this DVD for people who are either not familar with TaeBo or, who want to learn about TaeBo. Stick with the Get Ripped Series, much more effective workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD! Great Energy!
This is the first Taebo DVD I have tried and I absolutely love it! It gives me so much energy. Billy Blanks is very motivational. I like how each step he starts off slow then speeds up. Took me awhile to get up to his speed though. But after mastering the move, now I can pick up the pace. I was concerned the continous counting 1-8 would drive me crazy. But actually it turned out to be a good way to stay focused. I can't wait to try another one, but now, which one do I choose?

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo Cardio
This DVD is excellent, excellent, excellent. The cardio is wonderful and challenging. This is no exaggeration--each time I do the workout, I weigh a 1/2 lb. less the next morning! If you are considering buying a workout DVD, this is a wonderful choice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Heart Pumping Workout!
This is a great workout. I was a little aprehensive being a "Get Ripped" Freak. I thought nothing could beat the advance workout of that, but I was wrong. This workout was better because it wasn't as long and there are a lot more intricate moves that targets more critical areas. Of course I enjoy Billy's encouraging words and the moves are more sharp and precise. I didn't sweat as much as I do with the "Get Ripped Advance" but my heart was pounding a mile a minute and I felt really "worked".

This is a great addition to anyone's workout collection. Once again Billy doesn't disappoint. Try it, you'll love it. I've lost 28 pounds eating a sensible diet and working out to Taebo every morning for 4 months along with going to the gym.

This workout truly brings results!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow, is right, even his daughter Shellie is sweating
I have added Tae Bo to my work out and have really worked my way up from, just watching through many parts, to at least walking in place in some parts, to jogging while he did his leg kicks to now being able to get all the way through a 50 minute work out with out my heart coming out of my body. You will lose weight and inches and feel really great. This tape is a great addition to his normal insanity and his daughter Shellie is really hurtin' for certain so you know they are getting in a great workout along with you.As always Billy is the most encouraging coach on any tape I have, and I love his personal style. This is a must have for intermediate workouts and if you get the bands you will have a great advanced workout in your arsenal when you can't get to the gym or outside for that 5 mile run.I did only give it 4 stars cause as usual Billy sometimes does not tone evenly on each side, but this is really only a minor issue in a couple of places. If you have worked out with Billy before, you are already aware of this short coming of his tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow. what a workout!
I did this workout and boy did I sweat. It is much better than all of the other tae bo tapes because of the billy bands. It is better than the ultimate Bootcamp dvd bacause there are no squat thrusts, or push ups; or abs; just all cardio! There are very few "walk it outs" Most of the exercises are double time.Get this one and enjoy a sweat fest.If you don't have the billy bands, go to Billyblanks website and order them. You won't be sorry. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love the results from this workout
After doing this workout for a short time, I was amazed to look in the mirror one morning while getting ready for church, and noticed I actually had defined abs! I was stunned and thrilled. I've worked out on a regular basis for years and this is the first time, I've ever actually seen abs on my body. I don't understand the reviews that say you won't sweat and do not work your abs. Those people should touch their abs while holding one of the standing Flex positions and feel for themselves the engaged muscles.
I recommend this workout to anyone. It is difficult if you are not used to the moves, but you will pick up on them soon enough. And that's part of the fun of finding a new workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars great workout
This is my first teabo video and I have to say I got hooked right away, within the first two weeks I started to see the results especially in my saddle bag area and my upper stomach! The hardest part of this video is hopping around trying to keep my balance so I make sure the hubby isn't around to laugh at me while I workout but this is so much fun I am definately buying more teabo workout videos to mix up my weekly workout routine.

1-0 out of 5 stars By far the most dissapointing Tae Bo Experience thus far
I own and love the original Tae Bo workout set. Although low budget, even for the 1990's, Billy Blanks managed to deliver a good cardio and muscle buidling workout. The Flex workout (2002) on the other hand is the most disorganized, erratic and poorly edited version to date. The music is virtually non-existant. The video starts and ends suddenly, there is no ab workout and the amount of stopping, misstarts and "flex" sequences ensures that you will NOT work up a good sweat. "Flexing" is simply a different way of stating that you will be standing still with your arm in the "punch" position or your leg in the "kick" position - which may have marginal coordination/balance benefits - -but no cardio or muscle building effect that I can feel.

It is not for the beginner as there is virtually no instruction, yet the pace is slower than instructional at times. And it is certainly not for the advanced as you will ultimately fast forward this DVD as I had to. I even popped in the VHS tape of the 1997 workout afterword just to get a good ab workout.

The entire Flex DVD is very repetitive and in the five years since his original VHS Tae-Bo beginner tape, the only thing that has changed is that his side kick Sherry has blond ringlets and a fake tan. Stick with the original Tae-Bo series if you are looking for a good workout.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Production Quality
The Tae-Bo concept is wonderful, but "Billy Blanks' Tae-Bo Flex" is the worst sequel to come along since The Scorpion King. It's a major step down from the classic Tae-Bo VHS tapes I bought 4 years ago. First of all, I have to question if the "flex" aspect of the workout really does any good. I'm no expert, but just standing on one foot and holding a pose doesn't seem to be useful either from an aerobic or anaerobic perspective. But, whether or not the content is worthy, the presentation of it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Billy Blanks' performance was pathetic. He kept screwing up his lines and had to be corrected by his assistant. This is clearly something that they whipped out in one take with few rehearsals, if any.

And then there's the brain dead formatting. This production of Goodtimes Entertainment (www.goodtimes.com) doesn't even take advantage of the fundamental features of a DVD! There is only one item on the menu: "Play." What's the point of that? It may as well just start playing. Better yet, how about a few more menu choices, like scene selection. Hello?! The 45 minute program isn't broken down into chapters at all, so the Skip Ahead button doesn't work. (You can't even use the Skip Back button to restart at the beginning.) This is supposed to be a DVD that we'll wear out watching over and over, yet they expect us to sit through the introduction every time. If it were up to me, I would have put in at least 4 chapter breaks: intro, warm-up, workout, cool-down, and credits. ( I don't need to be reminded how to warm up, and would rather do that while watching CNN, then skip straight to the workout.)

I bought "Flex" in a 3-pack with "Flex Express" and "Cardio." Cardio isn't as bad content-wise, but it's not compelling either, and it still suffers the same poor production quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Workout
I bought this DVD with the plan to use it as I travel because I spend quite a bit of time in a hotel room for my job. This workout is great given the fact I have limited space. It is an intense workout without all the running around many fitness other exercise videos have you do. Like the other Taebo videos, this is also an excellent workout. The moves are easy to follow but are intense with the "flex" aspect to it. ... Read more

This fast-moving, high-tech 2-DVD set features former intelligence agent Katrina Barillova leading three complete 45-minute workouts for fat-burning, strength, flexibility, speed, precision, and endurance. The exercises are tough and relentless, military style, with Max, Barillova's trainer, instructing by voiceover. (He cues for the performers, not the viewer, so ignore his left/right directions.) The Combo Workout is full-body muscle conditioning with various forms of pushups, moving lunges, weighted punches, weights, and abs. The Shadowboxing Workout consists of fast, intense cardio boxing drills plus stretching. (Watch the separate Basics instructional section first.) The Cardio Workout--"designed to be unattainable"--pushes you through fast-paced, high-energy boxing moves, jumping jacks, squats, and lunges, with stretching.

When you take a water break, watch an action sequence featuring sexy Barrillova clad in evening dress, nightie, or bathtub water, defeating villainous guys and telling them what they did wrong. Recommended for conditioned exercisers who want a tough, athletic workout. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, a nice change and good instruction
Oh, this one is a blast.I don't think it's as serious a workout as, for example, the Tae Bo that is my favorite, but it is so funny, fun to watch, and informative.I haven't done all of the episodes yet, but I love the "sexy" vignettes, and the way they go over form and teach you how to wrap your wrists for when you are actually going to make contact (with a heavy bag, for example). The stuff that one learns here could easily be expanded on one's own into other workouts.Highly recommended for anyone with a sense of humor. This can be hard to find but look around and you may find a better priced copy elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic workouts with great music, addictive fun.
This DVD set consists of three separate workouts depending on your mood (toning, shadowboxing and cardio), my favourite is the cardio which consists of moves based on punches, knees, kicks and squats. This workout gets your heart rate up and works up a very decent sweat. The music is the best I've found in a workout DVD, it's very cool and very addictive. The DVD can be a little cheesy a times i.e. "the missions", however I consider this set of workouts to be one of the best purchases, if not the best in my collection which consists of over 40 fitness DVD's.I would definately recommend this for anybody looking for exciting, challenging workouts that are visually appealing and present a very polished production.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the BEST workout video I've ever bought.
As I've gotten older (and wiser) I've bought fewer workout videos because so many are just trash. (Who cares if some MTV kids can dance to a beat? That's no workout!)The Elite Forces DVD sethas done the one thing I never thought possible: It motivates me to workout because I don't dread the exercises or the instructor. With almost all the other workout videos I've used, I'll usually watch a workout once, and be distracted trying to do the exercises.By the second or third time I watch I'm bored with the exercises, and irritated by the sickeningly-sweet instructor. This video has a totally different look, (the sets/background have kind of a techno-gym feel) and a group of people to learn the exercises from. It has really kept my attention as with this set I don't watch my clock for "how much longer is this thing."I find that I am distracted by the visuals, music and instruction, andtime really flies by when I'm working out.For me, exercise is the only thing that helps me keep my weight under control, so a video that helps me keep my brain busy while working out is just what I need. This one is IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally...
I searched online for hours trying to find the perfect workout DVDs...and I found this one!I was VERY skeptical about paying $60 for this product, but I decided to give it a try after reading the reviews. This was the best $60 I've spent in a while!!I highly recommend this package for anybody who is looking for getting into regular workouts (they do have modified exercises for beginners) or who is looking for a new challenge. This is a GREAT buy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too much hara-kiri, too little substance.
Well, I got this dvd based on v. good reviews by others; ultimately, however, I was dissapointed. 1) One of the DVDs arrived scratched and was unreadable, 2) the 3 workouts that are on the DVDs are simply not worth the 60 dollars. I have a significant exercise dvd collection and was looking more of a martial arts-high impact training. However, the workouts just did not click with me. A workout dvd in my book should be a no-nonsense exercise, with good camera angles and lighting. Here, there was too much unnecessary material (...), the camera angles sometimes made it difficult to follow the exercises, and there was no light in their studio! C'mon, we need light to see how to position that leg!. With all due respect, the form of Katrina often was not good - the form of backup people was much better(after my meager two years training in taikwando, you learn something about punching and kicking form), the exercise itself could have been better organized - was too chaotic, not providing the optimum workout.I could have invested my 60 dollars in better exercise dvds. Alas, bad choice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout but extras need work
The warm up and actual workout are excellent, lots of variety and fast-paced. The Buns and Thighs Kicking Drills that follow are good information for the beginner but even if you're not, you can still continue to work your legs. The Kickboxing Stances that follow are good information but so slow paced that I advise doing them only if you want to meditate. The Challenge is exactly that. Very advanced moves. Unless you have done martial arts previously in some form, don't try it until you've done the workout a few times. The Cool down stretch is sorely lacking, definitely not one of Kathy's best. I have many of her videos, so I can compare. The Abs and Back Strengthening section is also sorely lacking. The moves are not hard but they won't do anything for your abs and will just annoy your back. Again definitely not one of Kathy's best. More thought should have gone into it. The Tai-Chi Energizer workout is ok, but only the second half of the twelve minutes is Tai-Chi. The first half is some breathing and stretching that shouldn't be done unless you are very warmed up. I was disapponted in this section. All in all I bought this for the actual workout which is the best part, and this is only my opinion. I would recommend it as its shortcomings are only small and short parts.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good alternative
I bought this video after having exhausted using Billy Blanks' Tae Bo Advanced Tape. This one isn't as difficult, but definitely feels safer and is still pretty aerobic. It's definitely a good video to add to anyone's workout rotation and can be used at any level as far as I can tell. Sometimes the camera angles are a little annoying but once you know what they're doing, you get used to it. And Kathy Smith is much more tolerable than other instructors that I've seen. I definitely recommend this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looking for something fun
When I purchased this video I was in search of something to alternate with the advanced Tae Bo video. I purchased a number of others but couldn't seem to find one that matched the intensity of the Tae Bo,but this one really did. This video, beyond being a fast paced high energy workout, is really fun. Like all of Kathy Smith's videos there is a wonderful cool down and stretch following the workout. There is also a section that focuses on improving kicks that I found to be extremely effective in improving lower body strength and muscle tone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Sweating Workout
I have been dancing with traditional type of aerbic dances for long time, it is difficult to keep motivated without something new!! With this new type of workout, you can really step into it and try something new. Besides that, the intensity of the workout is moderate, it is good for both beginner and intermediate exerciser!! You can train your upper body more with arm moves like jabs and upper cut etc. Instruction is clear and choice of music is good too!! Worth to keep it for yourself!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor and rent this before you buy it...
I wish I had. If you are more than moderately overweight, I recommend you pass on this tape. Also, you had better have the ability to move very fast. And the music sucks. Having said that, the moves are well explained and shown in 'slow motion', before kicking off into hyper-speed. This tape does gives you a very good workout. Just be sure kickboxing is your thing. I found out, too late, that it wasn't really mine, which is why I give this tape three stars only. I was flailing around like a beached whale half way through the workout. If kickboxing is your bag, baby, and you are fairly fit, go for it. You'll get some decent exercise, and that is the point after all, isn't it? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Billy Will Make You A Conquerer!
I bought this tape set after using the "old" Tae-Bo tapes for about a year. Since starting Tae-Bo, I've lost over 40 lbs and have a lot more energy.

The Beginner Tape explains all the moves - I highly recommend watching this first.

The Basic Tape is a great 30 minute workout, however there are a couple of minor goof ups: Billy seems to have trouble keeping the exercise counts consistent on each "side" when you're working out. In one spot, Billy starts a new movement before the complete 8-count from the previous move is completed (and his workout buddies in the background get confused). There is another point in the video where Billy tells you to work the "other side" but he promptly starts the exercise on the same side already done. And sometimes when switching to the "other leg" he doesn't do the exact same exercise after the switch. These problems are all minor, and I've come to anticipate them as I watch. Also, the Tae-Chi style cool-down session on the original Tae-bo tapes is better than the one on this tape. It's almost as if Billy runs out of time, and doesn't want to go over 30 minutes. This tape is ALL cardio. No floor work for legs, buns, or abs.

The Advanced Tape is truly for individuals with a high fitness level. Although I seem to find that the original Advanced Tae-Bo tape gets me breathing and sweating a little harder than this "Live" version. Still, this is a killer workout, and not for the timid. I use ankle and wrist weights when doing the Basic Tape, but this one is killer all on its own. The cardio portion is followed by a grueling floor portion for legs, buns, and abs - and you will be watching the clock praying for time to speed up. I keep the VCR display counter on the screen during this tape so I can keep an eye on how long the torture will last!

To be honest, I really don't use the 8-minute tape. I've watched it once, but 8 minutes of cardio, no matter how intense, is simply not enough to maintain a good fitness level. Sure - it's better than nothing, so if you're in a rush then pop this tape in. But you're better off committing to at least 30 minutes a day.

Minor problems aside, this is certainly a workout video worthy to be added to your collection. I suggest getting the original set (where Billy claims he will "make you a Conquerer!), as well as this "Live" set, so that you can keep variety in your training. I find myself using the Beginning and Advanced tapes from both sets on a regular basis.

I've enjoyed these tapes, and my wife and I have both enjoyed the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo is Brilliant!
Everyone should give Tae Bo a try. Approach it with confidence and determination. Read online Tae Bo discussion boards for support and success stories to keep you motivated. But when you commit to working out, do it for spirit rather than your physical hopes. As Billy says, let the rest fall into place.

This particular set is a great set for Tae Bo fans or Tae Bo beginners. Although the instructional workout can be boring, you really need to watch and work along with it before doing your first workout. It will hopefully help you complete your workouts safely and effectively.

The basic workout is a great workout that beginners will find challenging. Eventually you may be able to move to the advanced tape, but take your time and build your skills, confidence, and endurance first. The 8-minute workout is not really something you should use on its own. I would suggest doing the basic workout and the 8-minute workout back-to-back as you progress between basic and advanced. Just try out various ideas to see what is best for you.

And don't get discouraged if even the basic is too tough for you to complete when you begin. Take your time and focus on completing the moves you make as cleanly as possible, work on good form.

Approach Tae Bo with the a determinded and strong mind! You will feel great!

2-0 out of 5 stars Tae Bo is Excellent, but skip this one
Tae Bo is an excellent way to get fit and Billy Blanks is a master motivator, but skip this one. Billy often times seems like he's making it up as he goes and loses track of his count and excercizes. Moreover, the constant yelling of his assitant with the headset gets very annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best, most varied Tae Bo workouts available
I own the Basic and 8-Minute workout videos from the original Tae Bo Live VHS set. I started with the 8-Minute tape, thinking that the shorter length would make it easier, but that is NOT the case! Instructor Billy Blanks jumps right into this workout with a very short (2 1/2 minutes) and fast-moving warmup; he moves much more quickly than his usual warmup pace here. As the title suggests, the main part of the workout is about 8 minutes long. Billy covers only a few types of punches (jabs and uppercuts) and includes only one kick sequence at the very end. However, there are a lot of standing moves to target the abdominal area, such as knee lifts and heel touches. Billy then leads you through about 2 minutes of static holds for more core work as well as balance, and the workout ends with approximately 1 1/2 minutes of Tai Chi type cooldown moves. Thus the entire workout lasts about 14 minutes.

The Basic workout is the toughest basic Tae Bo I've encountered so far, but it is also the most interesting, as Billy includes a greater variety of punches and kicks as well as more punch-kick combinations. This workout begins with a 4-minute warmup and then moves right into punches, placing an emphasis on your waist during the moves. At one point, there is a particularly tough arms segment requiring you to hold up your arms for what seems like forever--my shoulders were screaming! The legwork is also challenging, as you will perform several different types of kicks--including front kicks, side kicks, back kicks, and roundhouse kicks--in several different combinations. Although a few of the combinations were a bit hard to follow, I really enjoyed the variations that Billy included in this workout. This workout also contains some static holds (about 1 minute), and it ends with an extremely quick 1-minute stretch; the entire program clocks in at 31 minutes.

These Tae Bo videos are perfect for anyone looking for an interesting, varied kickboxing workout with a nice balance of punches, kicks, and combinations.

5-0 out of 5 stars New to This
I am new to this; I love it so much that i Have already ordered 8 total workout and 6 vhs get ripped. GREAT!!!

The instructional tape is good; when you do it right you feel the effects; the beginners is good advances on the instructional; the advances advances on the beginners and the instruction. Buy it, you won't be disappointed! ... Read more
