5-0 out of 5 stars If you have no time or are a beginner, buy this
8 minute arms are fast and easy, and you can do it without weights or with weights (or soup cans if you don't have weights). 8 minute legs are easy, and you use your chair or couch, perfect for the beginner. 8 minute abs are a bit difficult, definetly work your way into those. 8 minute buns are not for the weak kneed, you definitly need an exercise mat. All the workouts are so fast, it doesn't even feel like your working out.

4-0 out of 5 stars I think I like it...
When I looked at the title, I thought - what the hey - only 8 minutes. I can do that.

I rec'd it from AMZN a couple days ago and brought it home, popped it in the DVD player and away I went. So far so good.

The workouts are fairly precise, SHORT and short. Short is good for those of us who don't care to work out except for a nice walk outdoors.

The lead guy is tolerable - he's built which makes me have the illusion that if I do these workouts 8 min. each day I'll become buff :) His outfit often takes attention away from the video though....it's white w/ black stripes and suspenders - straight out of the 80's. The music? Blechhhh. Corny corny corny. BUT - you're not getting this for the music - you're getting this because it's ONLY 8 minutes a day, which if I can handle it? Anyone can :)

The "legs" workout is alright - I've only done it once so far. The "buns" workout rocks. Really felt the results, especially the next day. The "arms" workout is just OK without weights, but adding even 2 or 5 pounds to each arm really makes a big difference.

One of the best things about this is that it's short but it also has a constant countdown in the corner of the screen. It keeps track of how many seconds you have for the current exercise and how many minutes total you have left for your workout. I really like that.

I plan on alternating "buns" and "legs" every other morning and doing "arms" each day regardless.

All in all I would recommend this DVD set. I also ordered the Winsor pilates DVD and will enjoy seeing the difference in presentation and results. BUY this - certainly doing 8 minutes a day is much better than doing nothing at all. If not for your physique, for your self esteem :)

5-0 out of 5 stars 8 Minute Workouts Review
Terrific! These are virtually perfect. Who doesn't have just 8 minutes? If I don't have time to workout I can at least find 8 minutes to do one of these workouts.

Each of the two DVDs includes bonus workouts that range from 10 - 20 minutes long. So if you don't have time to do a full workout, you can do a 10 minute sample and one of the 8 minute workouts. This is a great addition to the DVDs.

I highly recommend these. The 8 minute buns and abs really take some time to build up to their level, but since the exercises are not timed to the background music you can work at your own speed! And they have minute and second countdowns in the lower corner of the screen so you can take a 5 or 10 second break until the next set of exercises starts! These are AWESOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD
I have tried many other workouts but this one gave me the best results in a shorter amount of time. Each workout is 8 minutes long so it is easy to fit into your busy day. I have had knee surgeries on both knees and cannot do most of the excerise programs on the market but with the 8 minutes workouts I have lost one inch off my waist, legs and buns in 6 weeks. This DVD is excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I was Looking For!!!!
on the days that i go running i like to come back and do a quick toning exercise... just so i feel like i covered all the bases. i was bored with doing the normal crunches and am not familiar enough with free weights to put together my own routine. these videos are perfect.. eight minutes is a perfect amount of time and it's nice to have some instruction. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars not too demanding, but effective
I've got about half a dozen yoga DVDs and I find that this is the one I use the most often because it is not physically demanding, but is really effective.

The Rodney Yee program (AM) is shorter and focuses mainly on stretching out the back; I find it really helps when I've got any kind of lower back problem or just at stretching me out and getting me ready for the day.

The Patricia Walden program (PM) is slightly longer and focuses more on standing poses; it also has a very good deep relaxation at the end.

The only disadvantage to these Gaim DVDs is that they are programmed so that you have to play a longish commercial for all of their other products (what exacly is "organic clothing" anyway?) before you can start your workout. If you use the DVD regularly, the commercial gets really annoying after you've seen it about 20 times.

But all in all, this is a very useful DVD. It's accessible for beginners but also useful for people who've been doing yoga for a while but are looking for a short, focused, effective workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD - new yoga enthusiast
I never understood the appeal of yoga before. I bought this DVD, and now I see why people love yoga so much. I had tried another yoga tape and other exercise tapes before, but most were not nearly as good as this one. I am now hooked. There are two 20 minute yoga segments. The first is called "AM Yoga" with Rodney Yee, and the second segment, called "PM Yoga", is with Patricia Walden. Both segments were terrific, but I especially enjoyed the "AM" segment with Rodney Yee. I found that during his section I could listen to Yee peacefully talk me through the poses without being glued to the tv screen. It allowed me to really enjoy the DVD more. When I was finished with his 20 minute segment, I felt so relaxed - it was surprising...I am looking now for other Yee DVD's. On the second segment, it wasn't as easy to follow the instructor. I imagine it would be easier to follow after a week of sessions to get used to it. Still, this is an excellent DVD for anyone curious about the appeal of yoga and looking for an excellent intro. You won't be doing any moves that are too advanced or aerobic in this DVD, but it is extremely relaxing. Also, the 20 minute segments are great for busy people who don't have endless amounts of time to fit in exercise. This is a great investment overall.

2-0 out of 5 stars Falls Short, just like the length
I just bought this DVD along with another Yoga DVD. This one is more of a meditation and relaxation video than a workout video. Most people say the segments are each 20 minutes long, but that's only if you do all of the meditation. The workouts are actually 13 minutes for the AM and 18 minutes for the PM. The other video I purchased has so much more to offer with more than one routine and much more length. If you don't want to spend a lot of time working out, press stop when you're ready. This video is over before you know it. In addition, the PM section wakes you up more than the AM, so I'd reverse the order when using. Definitely go for a Bryan Kest video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and relaxing...
Works for both my small boy and myself. Relaxing, easy to follow, and not too long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD!!
I do the PM part of this DVD each morning and can't believe the difference it makes in my body after just 25 minutes of yoga. This DVD is perfect for those who are not very flexible (me included). What I can't figure out is why the woman in the PM part is in the middle of a sandstorm while Rodney Yee (AM part) is in an idyllic beach setting! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Literally
Living in New England, my running routine has somewhat gone down the tubes due to the frigid weather. Plus my class schedule has so many 8-5 days in it that I don't have time to hit the gym. SO, I decided just after Thanksgiving to start doing a workout tape regime that would kill less time and still keep me in shape.

My first tape...Callanetics. Great sculpting workout, but no cardio. The immediate first thought...Tae Bo. I have a lot of friends who sang the praises of Billy Blanks, but I had yet to see myself what cardio kickboxing was all about. I bought the DVD version (1) because it was actually cheaper than the tapes and (2) had all the tapes rolled up into one slim package that would probably last longer anyway.

I did what the instructions told me and did the introductory workout first. This teaches you the basics of the moves he likes to incorporate into the routines. Although I feel that he could have explained some of the positions better (i.e., when you do the roundhouse kicks, turn the foot you're standing on OUT...it will help twist your hips down so you can lift your leg as high as possible while working out your gluteal muscles...he doesn't emphasize this, just tells you to keep your hand on your hip and kick to the side), you find out his workout is relatively simple in technique. However, he warns you that he CAN and WILL make it more PHYSICALLY difficult as you progress.

I then advanced to the basics workout. Being an avid runner and gym rat, I found this to be a pretty decent workout. Built up a respectable sweat and felt empowered...just pictured kicking ex-boyfriends in the face. :) Plus, I surprised myself with how fierce I can feel...really lets out stress and remains fun.

The advanced workout...whoa. Not for the faint of heart. 45 minutes of cardio with many many many fast sequences of kicks and jabs that will make you feel like a puppet being yanked in eight different directions...it's great. :) Then, the floor work...you probably have never done so many doggy-lifts in your life! Killer! :) I highly recommend this DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Taebo will get you going!
I have been doing power yoga, jump roping, running, power walking, some martial arts (at studios) and a little weight lifting and I couldn't even get toned. I was still getting slightly depressed and I felt my motivation go down. BUT then I luckily found Taebo. Billy Blanks is this incredible motivator that really gets you going. Before I got to an advanced level I started to see stomach muscle tone and overall lean muscle tone--it's really amazing. Yes, you should spend an extra 15 min of stretching prior and after each workout, but if Billy Blanks were to have included a stretch out in the videos than it would have been boring. Yes, the music [is bad]. However, you can get over those petty concerns if you take your fitness goals seriously. Don't whine, get off your seat and just do it! I'm now doing Taebo 5X a week and cardio 1X a week--despite the fact that I have recently recieved radiation treatment for Grave's disease (and will require a life time of meds). You can transcend any emotional pain in your life by your pure determinism!

4-0 out of 5 stars They could have picked better music!!!
I love TaeBo, but it's a little difficult to get pumped up to elevator hiphop! Please! Overall, the workout is awesome. I saw results in 2 weeks, and it makes me feel strong, sexy, and empowered (I just picture kicking and punching my ex-husband in the face when I need that extra boost! LOL). This is worth the money. Maybe when you get the moves down, you could crank up some real music to kick-butt to!

1-0 out of 5 stars ordered and e-bay cancel
I order this DVd for $20 two days later E-bay cancel my order an
said they had no more. Now I look on e-bay they have the same
taebo DVD at a higher cost???Is this a rip off or what?

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, It Really Works
I have had to work to control my weight since puberty. I have been working out since I was 16 yrs. old and of all the things I have tried, I have never gotten into shape as fast as I did with Tae-Bo. About a month and a half after I began the workout, people were asking me what I was doing. I was so pleased with the results! And not only do you lose weight quick, but you feel so much better! Strong and energized. I thought what I payed was pretty inexpensive after seeing what it did for me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Change to the Typical Workout
This 30 minute workout is broken out into three, 10 minute segments that target first the lower body, then the upper body and lastly, the abs. The upper body portion is done using two sets of dumbbells; I used 5 and 8 lbs. You can choose to do one, two or all three segments. When I previewed this workout, I thought it might be too easy for me, an intermediate level exerciser. Well, I just finished it, and I am whipped. I was sweating after the first segment and was so motivated that I completed the other two segments as well. There is an exercise done in the lower body segment that really worked my hamstrings. This is my first stability ball workout, and I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quick Workouts
These workouts are fast and effective. They are only for toning, so I usually add one or two to a cardio workout. There are many creative uses of the stability ball in all of these workouts, and the instructor moves through the exercises quickly and gets a lot done in 10 minutes. The upper body segments requires heavy and light weights thought I found using five pound weights for both effective especially the first few times. Some of the exercises are difficult the first time, but there are alternatives for beginners. A lot of the exercises in all the workouts require good balance and core stability.

    4-0 out of 5 stars The Anti-Depressant!
I've been using this DVD for about three weeks now, when I don't feel like biking or walking, and I highly recommend it for people who have maybe had a little Pilates/yoga/weight work instruction and just want to come at it all from a different perspective. Make no mistake: Being on a ball doesn't make it easier! It makes you 'get real' about your posture and etc. Your muscles will bark back at you, especially on the lower body segment, but you'll feel pleased and proud when you complete it. The instructions are compassionate; the 'instructresses' are cheery and motivating. The background music doesn't sound like something from a (...) movie. And it's all over in a half-hour! If nothing else, this video will coax you out of a bad mood -- and maybe, after time, into a smaller pair of pants!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Quick Fix Winner
I own four Quick Fix DVD's and three are on regular rotation for my workouts (except the Yoga/Pilates, which stinks). This is a great workout that ensures I'll be sore the next day!

5-0 out of 5 stars busy mother of 3
Great DVD, highly recommend it. If you can't get away to a gym to workout, this is a great alternative, inexpensive, low tech, very doable for a middleage woman trying to get back in shape. I can do this on the basement floor while the kids play! The exercises offer two levels so if it's too hard you can do the easier version. Very pleasant leader, very encouraging, not a "fluff" or scantily clad kind of female but very atheletic and also middle age. I'm already noticing good results in 1 weeks use so give it a try!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Yoga Workout
I began yoga about a year ago. I bought this set about 2 months ago and still absolutely love it. There are a wide variety of types of exercises, from stretching to fat burning, all at the beginner level. Most of the DVDs have 2 - 20 min sessions, so you can mix and match. Their instruction is well done; you can look at the screen to see what you should look like, but listen to understand all the fine details. They really emphasize the breath, telling you when to exhale and inhale, which is something I find lacking in many other yoga videos. If you are not sure you need so many yoga DVDS, I recommend starting with the YogaZone Intro to Power Yoga, the second session is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teachers, good mix of sessions
I love this collection. First, Yoga Zone tapes are my favorite. They explain the poses, what you should be focusing on, what you should be feeling, how to breathe, and how to make each pose harder/ easier depending on your level. All these sessions are suitable for beginners, and there's a great selection: flexibility, stress relief, yoga for abs, total body conditioning, intro to power yoga, and yoga for weight loss. Each DVD has two sessions. If you want to stretch, tone, relax, or move, there's a session in this collection for it. Plus, the variety keeps it interesting. If you're just starting yoga, buy/rent a Yoga Zone tape to see if you like it, and if you're going to stick with it, get this collection! ... Read more

Pilates Workout for Dummies is a 60-minute DVD, ideal for both the first-time and intermediate Pilates exerciser. In the Basic Workout, well-toned instructor Michelle Dozois clearly and patiently presents 18 classic Pilates mat exercises, first demonstrating and explaining, then doing 6 to 10 repetitions. She explains what the Powerhouse is and how to use it, and covers the basics you'll need if you've never done this before (or need to be reminded), offering alignment tips, breathing, and extremely clear instructions for executing each movement. Dozois suggests modifications for making the exercises easier (or, occasionally, more challenging), and includes cautions against common mistakes and reminder tips for doing each exercise effectively. This is a fine first workout for Pilates novices. The Intermediate Workoutconsists of some of the Basic exercises and several new ones, all done at a faster pace and with more challenging instructions. This is a workout you can progress with! --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an unexpected surprise!
I saw this video at a local discount store and picked it up on a whim. I didn't expect much, but it was cheap, so I grabbed it.

What a pleasant surprise! I use this video regularly and definitely feel and see the results. Michelle Dozios clearly explains and demonstrates every move but is never condescending, irritating or intrusive. She also shows modifications for beginners and advanced exercisers, plus demonstrations of what NOT to do.

I'm not a Pilates expert, but I've seen some of these positions before on other Pilates videos, so I'm guessing they're pretty standard. You'll really feel it in your abs. (I think that overall, Pilates is much more effective -- and interesting -- than crunches for toning abs. I know I see a big difference when I do this video regularly.)

This is purely Pilates. There's no cardio, no weights. I like to alternate this video with cardio and weight work; additionally, you can skip the ab section on your other videos and use this instead.

This is a great intro to Pilates, and you sure can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Pilates
This DVD has none of the lush production of other Pilates DVDs or tapes that I have seen. The music accompanies rather than inspires or encourages. The studio is Spartan.

What this DVD is is a solid introduction to the beginning and intermediate levels of Pilates. There is an introduction about 10 minutes long that explains the significance of and the proper position for the powerhouse and spinal alignment. The instructor, Michelle, takes the time to teach the proper method of breathing during the exercises.

After the introduction, there are two groups of exercises at the beginning and intermediate levels. The beginning group of exercises has 18 basic Pilates exercises. It looks like the intermediate group has about the same number.

The strength of this DVD is that each exercise is demonstrated in a detailed fashion along with easier and more challenging variations. You should have little ambiguity performing the exercise correctly after listening to the explanation and seeing the exercise performed. In addition, common problems encountered performing each exercise are shown in an exaggerated fashion, so you clearly understand what not to do.

I had read two highly recommended books on Pilates, but seeing the DVD really put it all together for me. After using the DVD 3 times this week, I am feeling muscles I haven't felt in years and have developed a sense of when I am not standing properly or slumped over at the desk. I did have a low grade lower backache for a couple of days (which is somewhat normal according to the books) but that has passed.

I recently also joined a health club where they offer free Pilates Mat workouts. After watching one session and working out one session at the health club, it clear how much better the instructor on the DVD is.

Finally, for me, this workout would not work on VHS format. I really enjoy the ability to step through the exercises rather than FFW or REV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Basic Pilates Program for Surgery Recovery!
I am a very active person (aerobics, walking, running) who recently underwent bunion surgery. I did not look forward to several weeks off my feet and being generally inactive. I use this program daily to keep myself active, since very few of the exercises require you to be on your feet. There are only a few that require flexing of the foot while bearing weight on the toes, which I don't do yet. This program has been a godsend for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good start for beginners
This DVD gives you a basic workout which is very easy to follow and. despite being very simple, it's quite effective. It's great for people like me, who had no previous knowledge about what Pilates is or how it works. The instructions are very clear and Michelle does a good job encouraging you all along the video. In addition to this, you get more basic or more challenging versions of some of the excercises, and quick tips to avoid some common mistakes that you may unconsciously make. After some sessions, you really get to feel the so-called "Powerhouse". If you're tired of dull gym routines and don't like the en vogue tendency of having big muscles, Pilates (as well as yoga) will really help you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best available!
I also don't understand the one-star rating by one reviewer. I have a graduate degree in exercise science, and many years of experience as a personal trainer (focusing on women & weight/strength training) and I found Kathy's dvds to be outstanding. She provides guidance about proper form in a number of ways with each and every exercise. She often starts a new set with instruction (verbally & by demo'ing herself) the right form without any weights in hand - sometimes also by using a smaller version of the movement first and gradually easing into full range of motion. For example, with her squats series - first you do some reps with no weights and by only squatting a little ways down, then a few deeper squats, and finally a few full squats. Throughout these "warm-up" squats, the screen shots include front & side views of Kathy's strict form which really is correct. THEN you pick up your handweights if you want to use them and move into the actual squats sets. On top of that, Kathy also walks amongst the men & women working out on screen with her, stopping to comment on specific aspects of their form, which enables you to see proper form frommany different angles, and also demos how "proper" form can in fact look slightly different with different body types, and/or with modified versions of some exercises.

In addition to all the above, she also includes verbal reminders along the way ("make sure your knees are tracking over your toes... chest up, neck relaxed..." etc). I found her verbal cues about form to be just the right amount - enough to help you ensure your own proper form, but not so constant you wish she'd just shut up. :)

These DVDs, especially #2, have everything you'd need for a very intense & effective upper & lower body strength training routine. At the same time, they are great for beginners who are new to any sort of weight training. The primary difference will be the amount of weight you use with each exercise. And Kathy even provides guidance about that as well - "your muscle should be fatigued by the time you've done 8-12 reps - if not, you can increase to more weight..." She also makes a point of mentioning when she herself is using a lighter or heavier dumbbell from one exercise to another. Your increases/decreases might not always follow hers - amt of weight or even +/- direction - but it should be fairly clear that it's totally normal not to be able to use the same set of dumbbells for every exercise.

I have tried a lot of different weight/strength training videos & dvds. To be honest, I wasn't really sure Kathy's would impress me very much. I was looking for something that would really challenge me, and decided to take a chance since Karen Voight's "great weighted workout" isn't out on dvd yet. I have been extremely pleased with Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight dvds. Vol 2 of LWTLW series has quickly become one of my favorites. With 4 full 20-minute routines (2 upper body, 2 lower body) plus an additional abs workout, you can easily pick one session per day or mix & match for a whole-body workout. And there are many exercises in each lower & upper body routine that also target core strength - something you won't necessarily find in many other strength tapes/dvds (although fyi - Karen Mann's "The Works" box set has some great core strength and "functional strength" exercises too - the kind of strength you use for picking up your child, carrying groceries, climbing ladders to change lightbulbs etc - all those "awkward positions" we all face every day). I highly recommend this series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Timesaver... best weight workout on market!
I highly disagree with the 1-star rater. Regarding her points first, it moves quickly because the strength training is done using a technique called supersetting. You push yourself and then move quickly in between exercises to move to the next exercise. I found her cheering of "four more" highly encouraging.

I myself, am an aerobics instructor. This video is challenging but appropriate for anyone. You choose your level of weights and you can set it down when it gets to be too much. The exercises move quickly so you won't sit around feeling left out if you choose not to do 6 or 7 reps. You'll get right back into it! I love this video. I was dying to find a way to increase my strength training, and this is it! I even have my boyfriend who is a PE teacher do the arms with me and he loves it. There are men on the video and women and I like that. Kathy looks awesome by the way. This is the best video I've done out of the many I own!

5-0 out of 5 stars These DVDS will give you results!!
I don't know how great of shape the 1 star reviewer was in....but these DVDS together are great. True, there is no warm-up on Volume 1, but you simply warm up yourself. Big deal. The point is, the reps are challenging and great for beginners in Volume 1. They tend to feel quick as the workout flies by in no time. There is a great adherence to proper form!! Volume 2 takes it to the next level to really tone the little muscles in your body. Trust me, I own and have tried a plethora of exercise DVDS and these have given me great results. Yes, Kathy Smith is annoying - obviously - but the bottom line is...you will see results and totally feel the burn the next day. For Volume 2, I find the cool downs not long enough, so I simply hit "pause" and cool down a bit more. Exercise DVDS can't be everything to everyone, but if they work, you have to simply modify it for your own needs. These workouts are not 1 star workouts - trust me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Irritating and Unwatchable
First of all this is NOT a workout for beginners. I consider myself to be in good shape and an intermediate at working out, but I was left feeling frequently lost in the dust. The repetitions were too fast without any emphasis on proper form. Kathy also moves too quickly from one exercise to the next without giving you any time to grab your weights. There is no warm-up included, though she advises you to do one before hand. (It's not really a 20 minute workout if she expects you to warm up on your own beforehand.) But what I found most irritating was Kathy constantly barking orders like a drill sergeant to the toned, buff and scantily-clad men and women in the class: "OKAY, GIVE ME FOUR MORE!" and her frequent "whoops." Struck me as almost sado-masochistic.

My favorite weight-training video remains "Strong Women Stay Young" available through the "As We Change" catalogue. It moves much slowly (but no less intensely) with much more attention to proper form and detail. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout
I use this video three times a week and I love it. I stretch out before I turn the video on, then I work out for a half-hour and quit. The video is almost two hours, so I get four work outs before I have to start the video over again. I like it because I get a better variety than my normal taebo videos, and they are all the more advanced workouts. Only buy this video if you are in pretty good shape, or you will get frustrated from the start. A couple of times during the video they seem to cut the reps short, and you have only worked out one side of your body. But other than that one flaw, this is one of my favorite workout videos, and has kept me in shape over this long winter.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not effective
This DVD makes you sweat BUT not effective. They have put many different classes on one DVD and it jumps from one exercise to the next very quickly. There are some routines that are only done on the left or right side...not both. Don't waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another addition to TaeBo
I am in my mid-twenties and have worked out to TaeBo Live series about 6 months before trying these. So I consider myself to be in fair to average "shape", and I still had a very tough time with the floor exercises that come at the end of each workout. The grueling but rather effective floor exercises are when I felt the actual abs and glute muscles 'work' the most. You will be on your feet the first portion of these workouts doing traditional TaeBo moves. These Ultimate Abs and Butt are both advanced workouts compared to my experience with TaeBo. In other words, if you try these having not worked out in a while or are out of shape, they'll be considerably difficult to finish (especially the floor exercises). You need to have completed at least the TaeBo Instructional and preferrably the TaeBo Basic programs before you attempt this. Billy Blanks is a good motivator, but it's slighty annoying that he doesn't finish each repetition set with you (you'll see). He demonstrates the movement several times then moves around to the other class members that are working out as he "cheerleads" them and the viewer to complete the reps. I would rather see him complete each workout as the viewer has to do. The upbeat music is in tune with the exercises and is motivating. These workouts are not perfect and while each movement is adequately demonstrated sometimes the reps move too quickly which can be dangerous to keep proper positioning. The reps for each side for example left and right leg are NOT always even. Lastly, this is a series of several different classes worth of exercises (supposedly the butt and abs targeting portions) assembled as a complete workout. That is to say, you can see Billy's and the class members outfits change every few minutes. That is different from the TaeBo Live programs which are start to finish taped workouts with the same people exercising. That difference may not bother many people, but I prefer the live style. Though not suggested in/ on the product, I think that you will need an exercise mat to be comfortable on the floor for as long as the abs and butt floor exercises take (better for back of head, knees and general comfort). You luckily don't need any special equipment, but a chair to hold on to for the standing part of the workout might help. The butt workout is around 40 minutes, and the abs workout is just under an hour. Overall, I don't regret purchasing as I got two different, complete workouts on one DVD, and I would recommend this product given my guidelines above. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great program to stick with every day
I have used this tape everyday now for the past 2 months. I have seen results. It is a great tape to work out with, because you can go at your own pace. Also, there is a constant flow of movement. Therefore, if you need to take a break, you do less of one exercise, but don't miss out on the entire routine. My mom even started doing it with me. There are various levels that she was able to work at. Try it for yourself, you will get a lot out of these exercises. For abs each exercise is 45 seconds and for arms each is 30 seconds. Although it is a continious 8 minutes in rotation. Try it! You'll LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This DVD will kick your A-s, er Abs!
I bought this primarily because of the reviews I read here and the fact that exercise DVS are still a rarity (love DVD format). I was skeptical because I thought "How am I going to tone my big fat stomach in 8 minutes a day?" Well my friends this WORKS. I am already seeing a difference in 3 weeks. What's more, the video, while challenging, is easy to follow. I hate it when the exercises are so complicated that I am not sure if I am even doing the exercises correctly. You will have no problem following these. I had bad lower back pain when I began this program and it is just about gone now. My Doc gave me a sheet of back exercises to do, but I never wanted to do them. As a bonus, there are some cool bonus workouts including a 20 minute kick boxing workout done by a tough navy seal looking dude. Boyfriend thought that was cool. I bought the "8 minute workout" DVD set that includes butt, abs, arms, legs, etc. It wasn't much more money just to get everything at once. I have to try the other workouts and will report to you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective, non-damaging, *toner*. 5 stars but just barely.
This is a good *toner* and the speaker even calls it a toner. You can definitely expect to lose and shape with this program but do not expect to build with it. If everyone did the routine, America wouldn't have the bad rep it has as far as average fitness goes.

The good stuff: it's based on sound techniques, it works and doesn't damage your lower back. Now that should be enough but I'll babble a bit more. With the DVD, you get three worthwhile programs: stretch, abs and arms. The other programs are pretty much worthless filler (with one exception). The constant movement even offers a *mild* cardio workout. Converting the program to build wouldn't be all that tough. The abs routine would just require more reps and a couple of weights. The arms routine needs a set of dumb bells that would allow working each group to failure and a few sets. So, for the arms, figure 3 sets of 8 minutes and then another six minutes for all the bell changes.

Now, for the bad stuff: music - bad; dialog (i.e. "Ok, gang") - cheesy, enthusiasm of two support people - they look bored and, in their defense, they are bored. She gets modified push ups and no weights and he gets, what looks like, 5 pound dumb bells.... pulleeeze.

5-0 out of 5 stars no more excuses
This workout is great and only 8 minutes short. I'm a pretty busy person (two jobs) and have found that not only did I notice a difference, other people have been asking if I'm working out more. I can afford the 16 minutes (abs and arms) and I don't feel guilty for not working out and I can see a difference. I agree, it's a toner, not a builder, but that's all I need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great time saver!!
I've had this DVD for about a year now, previously I spent every night doing 1200 various styles of crunches, which took a ton of time, I still resort to my old routine when I get tired of the cheesiness of the dvd, lol. Anyway, having done the ab section pretty much every night, I've found it to be VERY effective, you just have to be consistent and remember not to use your neck, but breathe and contract your ab muscles. I even had the indention below my obliques. I alternate this dvd with whatever other program I do at night, i.e. Tamilee Webb's I want that body, buns of steel, and a string of denise austin and kathy smith's programs. I enjoy yoga and pilates too, so the ab dvd helps with the toning. ... Read more

"Calorie burning cardio plus Pilates-based toning," promises this 40-minute Crunch program, which combines Pilates-influenced standing and mat exercises. In the cardio section, instructor Ellen Barrett uses Pilates terminology (e.g. "standing imprint") as she adapts Pilates moves to rather repetitious standing exercises--mostly squats and leg lift variations--which work the core muscles of the abdominals and back as well as legs, thighs, and buttocks. The moves are sometimes slow and rarely "travel," so your heart rate might not stay elevated, although your lower body and core muscles will get a good workout. The toning section consists of Pilates mat exercises which work abs, back, thighs, and buttocks. One exerciser demonstrates easier modifications. The background music is dominated by a lively drummer who keeps the workout upbeat andenthusiastic. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A light cardio routine combined with brief Pilates matwork
Fat-Burning Pilates consists of two separate routines: a 26-minute cardiovascular workout (the "fat-burning" part) followed by 14-minutes of matwork (the "Pilates" part). The cardio section is Pilates-inspired in that instructor Ellen Barrett frequently reminds you to keep your abdominal core area tight, and she also adapts a few traditional Pilates floor exercises to be performed in a standing position. Overall, however, this segment consists of standard, low-impact aerobics moves such as squats, knee lifts, step-touch, and also some ballet-inspired exercises. Although this part of the workout is fast-paced enough to raise your heart rate, given the extended warm-up period (7 minutes) as well the low-intensity nature of the movements, advanced beginner to intermediate exercisers will probably find this to be a light aerobic workout at best. The cardio section concludes with two short sets of Pilates-style pushups.

Following the cardio workout, you move to the floor for more traditional Pilates matwork. Ellen begins with The Hundred and continues with moves from the classic Pilates stomach series. However, she also adds her own twists to many of the Pilates exercises as well as suggests easier modifications. Most of this section is performed while lying on your back, but there are a few exercises done from stomach down, kneeling, and seated positions (none of the Pilates side kick series exercises are included). This entire section went by very quickly, and at the same time, my core felt challenged by only a few of the movements.

Ellen is a likeable, friendly instructor who provides good form pointers, but she frequently fails to adequately cue new movements, which makes it initially difficult to learn some of the moves. The workout is performed on the standard Crunch set with a room full of about 10 participants. In addition to the background music, there is a live drummer on set; some other reviewers didn't like the drummer, but I found him to be an interesting, non-distracting element. Overall, this is a nice workout for those who enjoy blended routines and who are looking for some fresh twists on the traditional Pilates exercises.

3-0 out of 5 stars not heart pumping for me
I am a intermediate exerciser and workout around 4 to 5 hours a week. The moves in this video are fun, interesting, and challenging at times and the video does go by quickly, but it didn't get my heart pumping with it's extremely light aerobic (?) exercises in between the pilates poses. There are a whole lot of pile squats and squats in general and the instructor is clear and motivating. Also the live drummer in the backround also makes it fun and lively but i would not select this workout as one to aerobically challenge myself. It is a light workout with a great amount of toning exercises. Good but not at a fat burning pace unfortunatley!

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Kick-butt Workout!!!
This is one hell of a great workout!!! I felt challenged without feeling overwhelmed! It's great for days when I don't feel like getting on my elliptical trainer! The music is awesome and Ellen Barrett rocks!!! I will say that there isn't enough mat time at the end, so I usually supplement with Crunch Pick Your Spot Pilates. Awesome!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout!!

3-0 out of 5 stars good workout but doens't fit into my workout schedule

Salsa, meringue, samba, and cha cha steps highlight these high-energy aerobic dance patterns, taught one step at a time, then building gradually into combinations. The footwork is fast-moving but not difficult to learn, thanks to the careful way perky instructor Giselle Roque de Escobar teaches and cues. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cardio Fun!
This workout is a lot of fun and aerobic enough to get me into my training heart zone (moderate level; this isn't Tae Bo!!)I've only had it a month, and I can't stop working out to it! It's made my weekly rotation--and I'm picky.

I do exercise videos 5-6 days a week and have lost 40 lbs doing them (with a reasonable diet). So, I take my video selections seriously. I've purchased more than 100 videos, but many of them are rejects because the workout isn't aerobic enough, it's boring, the instructor is uninspiring, etc. This Cardio Salsa Video, on the other hand, has so much going for it:
    1) The instructor is lively, and breaks down the moves so they are easy to learn.

    2) The workout is presented in six segments--so the time flies. Before you know it, you're off doing the next segment, Salsa, Samba,Merengue (my favorite)and more. This short segment approach keeps the workout very fresh for those like me who want to do a video regularly and not just once or twice.

3)The workout incorporates large arm movements and some jumps, so even someone who is fit (like me) can get their heart rate into the moderate intensity zone. Put some energy behind the moves, and you will get a good workout! OK, it's not the strenous workout of Tae Bo, but it's not too easy like a lot of Latin tapes out there that are only good for "light days" or are in my reject pile.

    4) The live drummer Ravi and his drumming add something special to the video. He's on several other Crunch videos, and I've liked all the ones he's on.

Are you a beginner or someone who does not like dancy videos? Stick with it; you'll learn these short routines in 2 or 3 times through the video and you WILL be converted to an Aerobic Latin style enthusiast thanks to Giselle and her good choreography.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great workout!
This is a lot of fun. It's great if you like something a little different from the ordinary. I get bored easily, so each week I switch around between hatha/kundalini yoga, TaeBo Cardio, Tae Bo Master Blaster (with weights) and dancing/jump rope/Nordictrack (I did say I get bored, yes?). And my work requires that I be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. I don't have the time to go to a fitness center and don't care to get all jazzed up to do so. I prefer to do my own thing at home and this program is perfect for that. I've done okay by watching my diet and using this and the other videos/DVDs.

The instructor is energenic and vibrant, and although I'm a total klutz when it comes to learning dance moves, she goes about it at a nice enough pace that after a few sessions I even got the hang of it. The warmup works smoothly into the following routines. The beat of the music fits well with the moves, and you just have to have fun doing it! The 40 minutes goes by so fast it's amazing.

If you're looking for a very fast paced, aerobic, "take your breath away" exercise routine, this is *not* it. But if you're looking for something to work that heart, limber up and shed some calories along the way, try it!

1-0 out of 5 stars I just returned this video
I buy a lot of exercise videos and consider myself pretty coordinated, but this video was rediculous. It's dance based and Giselle combines some moves that don't really flow together. I also had a hard time understanding Giselle as she does have a little accent. I didn't feel she described the moves very well. Perhaps if you have a strong dance background this video would be appropriate, otherwise pick up Fat Burning Pilates.

4-0 out of 5 stars Latin Fun
I love this workout DVD. Giselle is perky, but not overly so, and takes you through the steps at a good pace. It's slow enough to catch on during the routine, but not so slow that repeat workouts get monotonous. I was so engaged learning the steps and keeping up that I didn't realize how sweaty I was getting the first time! A great workout for people that like to be entertained/occupied instead of "feeling the burn."
The dance steps really work the calves, hips, and saddlebag area. Yay for Latin dancing!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not if you want to sweat
I enjoyed the video and the smooth moves. However it does not qualify as a workout- too easy and you barely break a sweat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Yoga Package for Beginners-
Crunch has put together two yoga workouts that work well for beginners and beyond. Both are taught by Sarah Ivanhoe, a calming yet energetic (for yoga) instructor. These are non-mystical yoga tapes, which is nice if you haven't done yoga before. No meditation or cosmic anything. She teaches a group class, and some modifications are shown by class members.

The Joy of Yoga is a well planned workout that is a great intro to yoga, or a nice cooldown after a longer cardio or weight workout. It is relaxing and energizing, so you can do it any time of day.

Fat Burning Yoga is tougher, more like a high beginner workout. It is not so tough that one should be wiped afterwards, but one will definitely feel worked out. The pace moves, but not too quickly. I don't know how much Fat-burning this really accomplishes, but it will definitly burn some calories, and work out kinks at the same time.

The DVD interface is well planned, and it is very easy to go through each ot the two programs as written. They are also broken into chapters, so mixing between the two is possible, as it putting together a long yoga workout.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fat burning? Not really
This DVD comes with two workouts: Joy of Yoga and Fat Burning Yoga.

If you are one of those whose attention was caught by the title of this DVD "Fat Burning Yoga", well, let me tell you you will be disappointed in this one. The Fat Burning workout runs a little over half an hour, which essentially makes it ineffective in burning fat. This is not to say that it's not a good yoga workout, it's just that when you feel like you *just* got started, the routine has ended. If you are looking for a short yoga workout which will make you sweat a little, you will be happy with this one. It's easy but challenging enough for someone in the beginner's level and Sarah is a great instructor. She has a soothing voice and she clearly love what she does.

The other workout routine, the Joy of Yoga, is a good introduction to yoga. However, you may get bored of that one quickly though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breaking the tension
I'm pretty active. I run and lift weights. But my flexibility is very poor and I carry a lot of tension these days, as most people do. I used to do yoga years ago. I'm now 35 years old and starting over. This DVD is excellent for someone trying to get their groove back. The stretches are great and there's a lot of focus on the back, breathing and abs. I just started using this workout. I love the first workout (The Joy of Yoga), which is a great ease into it workout. Great for the mornings. After doing the second workout (Fat Burning Yoga), I actually broke a sweat and found some of the poses a little difficult. But I know in time as my flexibility improves, I will be able to follow it better. The instructor, Sara Ivanhoe, has a great soothing voice and explains the poses in a clear way so you don't have to continually watch the TV monitor. Easy to follow and very rewarding. It's something I can routinely do, which is key to any exercise workout. Definitely a recommend for beginners or people revisiting yoga after a long hiatus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good
This is good for stretching, balancing, and gaining a little strength. The Joy of Yoga is relaxing, and the Fat Burning Yoga is more for stability and flexibility. Pretty easy, but ok once a week.

1-0 out of 5 stars this workout is to yoga what cliffnotes are to literature
This workout uses yoga vocabulary, but it's really just gymnastics. That said, it's not really interesting gymnastics. The instructors talk too much, by the fourth time you're bored as anything and want to just get on with the workout instead of listening to them. For people interested in more serious yoga AND a really good workout, check out the Flow Series. ... Read more

    Description

Pilates is a full-body conditioning exercise program that uses a series of machines and exercises. It works the entire body, both the right and left sides, in unison. It focuses primarily on what Joseph Pilates called the "powerhouse," the group of muscles that begins two inches above and below your navel, then wraps completely around your front and back--kind of like a corset. It also includes your buttocks.

The DVD features the Pilates Beginning Mat Workout, plus a bonus workout and interview with instructor Ana Caban. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!
I've been doing Pilates for 5 months now and I love Anna's videos! The beginner mat workout is perfect for anyone who hasn't worked out before. I started doing them to get rid of a little belly chub I had left after having my daughter. Within two months I'd already lost over 5 lbs and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight, a happy 111 lbs! I was absolutely floored at how easy and fast it was to loose the weight and get my body back into shape especially after having a baby. Something I'd been warned was almost impossible to do.

I've since moved onto the Intermediate workout and I agree with the poster who said this one is a lot harder. Be warned! Make sure you can do EVERY stretch before moving on. I made the mistake of moving onto the intermediate workout before I'd mastered the open leg rocker and teaser. I kind of thought I would be doing different stretches than the ones in the beginner workout. Wrong! Not knowing how to do those specific stretches made the 2nd video a lot harder than it should have been. 3 months after starting it I'm finally getting to the point where I can do the stretches without to much difficulty. I'm giving myself another few months before moving onto the advanced workout just to be safe.

5-0 out of 5 stars clear and challenging
I love this video. I wouldn't base my entire exercise regimen around one video, and this is not a cardiovascular workout, but Pilates is a wonderful way to strengthen and improve flexibility, which in turn can help you be able to do more challenging workouts of other kinds. Ana Caban quotes Joseph Pilates that you'll feel better after 10 sessions, but I really think I already feel better.

Maybe that's because a lot of days I don't have time to make it to the gym but I want to do some kind of exercise. At 20 minutes, the workout on this video is a very convenient length for those days. I can fit it in almost anytime, but I definitely finish it feeling like I've gotten a workout. This video can be the difference between feeling lazy and flabby and feeling alert and motivated at the end of the day.

Ana Caban's instructions are clear and complete, and while her delivery of the introductory "this is great and you'll love it" section is a little annoying, during the exercises themselves she's not at all grating. Compared to most exercise-video instructors she's appealingly low-key.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I think Ana Caban does a wonderful job instructing as well as cuing. I do this workout 3x a week and I actually look forward to the workout!! Her workouts are better and more challenging than the ones I was doing on my own! Right now, I'm still working on the beginners VHS, however, I'm looking forward to the intermediate workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST pilates workout avaliable!
I've had this workout for about a year and have bought MANY other pilates workouts and I always come back to this one. I was amazed after I first started using it--I could actually see definition in my abs and thighs and I've NEVER had definition. I used to have backpain everyday, but since I've been doing this program I haven't suffered a single day from a bad back. The great thing is you don't have to jump around and get sweaty, this entire workout is done either sitting or laying down. You're cheating yourself if you buy any other pilates workout over this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not happy with product quality
Product is faulty and jolts in my dvd. A complete waste of money as I will not sell to someone knowing it's faulty, unlike this seller. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but not if international buyer
I have many tae bo dvds and as they are scarce in the UK I buy the US through various sites. I was disappointed to find that this set did not come with the bands, as noted by other reviewers. I have managed to purchase them through collagevideo.com. Otherwise, this program is both innovative and everything you can come to expect from tae bo and then some. Definitely not for a beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging for Advanced!
First, allow me to answer the "Billy Bands" question so many have in below comments. If you cannot buy "Billy Bands" then go to your local sporting goods store and purchase any resistance bands. They are the same thing. Or you can use wrist and ankle weights if you cannot find resistance bands.

Now, I must say that this is a wonderful highly effective work-out. I have taken Cardio Kickboxing (Tae-Bo) for six years, and taught it for the last three years. I am definately in the advanced category. I've done some of Billy's work-outs at home once-in-a-while. Most were interesting, some too easy for me, some a good work-out. The Fat Blasting 2-Pack which includes Total Body Fat Blaster and the Fat Blasting Cardio DVD's are the best that Billy has put out. The bands are fun and I sometimes alternate with free weights to achieve different results. My husband enjoys doing them with me and we both think these are very challenging cardio work-outs. Keep in mind that these realy are pure Cardio with very little, if any, ab work. However, if you have done any Tae-Bo before or have taken a Cardio Kickboxing class in a studio, then your proper form will work your abs enough during the work-out.

I would not recommend this work-out for beginners. I also urge anyone that is interested in Tae-Bo or has only done it at home to take a couple of Cardio Kickbox classes at a local Martial Arts Studio (not a health club). You will be surprised how hard it is to get the form correct without live instruction... and improper form leads to injury or slow results.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you really want to hurt
This is the workout for you.The first time I did it, I had not ordered the resistance bands. It did not seem to do much without the bands.I had been doing the Advanced Tae-Bo before this.Well, I finally got the bands (it takes about 3-4 weeks to get them), and it is extremely challenging.I have not been able to get through the whole thing yet.I am slowly working my way up so I am not so sore that I cannot walk the next day.If you want to burn fat, tone, and gain muscle I highly reccomend this DVD.Be prepared to sweat and hurt!

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware if you live outside the US or Canada
A word of warning - if you live outside the US or Canada you will find it extremely difficult to find the resistance bands used on this DVD.Don't bother trying to buy them from the offical Tae Bo website - they won't ship to you if you live overseas. Although the workout is still good without the bands, it is very frustrating to see how much better it could be and not be able to join in. I think it is poor planning to make the DVD available to anyone in the world but not the products that accompany it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
Hi, I bought this DVD from your site a wee while ago. It is a GREAT workout, I really recommend it. What I want to know is, how can I buy Billy Bands from outside the US/Canada? I'm in New Zealand, and would really like to be able to add this resistance option to my workout... any comments/suggestions? ... Read more

    Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies
A workout that balances both the body and the mind can be found in Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies. Fundamental postures are explained and demonstrated slowly with an emphasis on breathing and motion. Sara Ivanhoe teaches 12 basic poses that are termed the "daily dozen" and offers challenges and modifications to each of these moves. Ivanhoe presents these concepts in an approachable and calming manner that adds to the overall relaxed feeling that this session exudes. Newcomers to the practice of yoga will learn jargon, essential postures, and focusing techniques. Experienced participants may find some information redundant, but Ivanhoe offers such thorough explanations about each posture that you can't help but expand your existing knowledge of yoga. As the mountain pose, standing forward bend, and downward facing dog are explained (not to mention the nine other poses within the "daily dozen"), proper body alignment becomes the focus. Meticulous attention is given to the connection between breathing and body movement with several reminders to keep the spine in "neutral alignment." This session ranks great for safety and content and makes yoga accessible to anyone who "always wanted to, but never did." This is a substantial program that can introduce the basics and build your understanding of yoga. --Olivia Voigts

    Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies
Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies presents 12 yoga poses that skilled instructor Sara Ivanhoe calls the "daily dozen." Ivanhoe is calm, clear, warm, and patient, demonstrating each pose as the screen flashes easier andmore challenging modifications. The too-frequent voiceover "tips," "mythbusters," and "warnings"--announced by sound effects--are louder than Ivanhoe's voice and become disconcerting interruptions. Since they also appear in print on the screen, the jarring voice is unnecessary. Ivanhoe herself could give any tips needed for safety and effectiveness. Ivanhoe's careful, detailed instructions for each pose keep the progression slow, and an experienced yoga practitioner could get bored. However, a beginning exerciser who has mastered a basic workout will find this program a helpful next step before going to an intermediate level. The 70-minute DVD edition also includes a 15-minute guided meditation and the option to eliminate the music--you still hear instructor cueing and voiceover tips, but you can play your own music. --Joan Price ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Love It
I Love this DVD set. Sarah Ivanhoe is one of the best video instructors I've ever had. She goes slow enough for everybody to get it, but not too slow. She's very encouraging throughout it all. I'm not athletic at all and I am certainly not flexible, but she makes it fun and reassure me that it's ok. The Dummies tips and icons let you learn a bit about yoga and it's just a lot of fun. I would recommend this to anyone, but especially those of us that aren't very athletic or flexible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest!
I am a non-athlete (and overweight) all my life, but came to yoga with spritual needs about five months ago. I am not a spring chicken either, so you can imagine how out-of-shape I was... I thought I should start with Dummies series. I bought them separately, but now I see them as a 2-pack and I think this should be great for somebody who really want to start from the beginning. Now I own several yoga DVD's and go to yoga classes regularly, but I still consider Sara Ivanhoe one of the greatest instructors. She has a non-judgemental, yet encouraging and thorough way to introduce you to the world of yoga. Too often in classes, instructors throw names of poses at you (sometimes in sanskrit) without giving you enough explanations. I still go back to these DVD's once in a while and understand the explanation even more each time! Overall I think the DVD's deliver what they claim. ...
